5th gen Ipod not recognized and not charging on any computer.

Hello
I have a 5th gen Ipod with an odd issue. I have an Ihome radio with Ipod dock in which my Ipod charges and plays everthing just fine. I usually just keep it there to charge and only hook up to my computer if I want to buy something or put other music on it. I tried syncing the other day and nothing happened, would not sync, charge, my computer would not even recognize it. I have tried 2 differnt cables, reset, have tried it with itunes started and not running on my vista computer and have also tried just to charge on a computer with XP that doesnt have Itunes installed. My daughter has in Ipod Touch that works just fine with both my cables and computers.
Any ideas of whats wrong with my 5th gen?
Thanks

Try restarting your computer with your ipod plugged in. You might also try using a different USB port. If all else fails downgrade to itunes 6 here http://www.apple.com/support/

5th gen ipod can receive but not send emails. I have iPad with same settings and no issues. Yet, I keep getting "cannot send mail" the user name or password for "[email protected]" is incorrect. Please assist. I am not running both accounts simultaneously

    See:

    Did it work before?
I suspect a error in the settings for the outgoing mail server.

  • I just bought a 5th gen Ipod from someone and now it wont turn on/boot up

I just bought a 5th gen Ipod from someone and restored it to factory setting I then uploaded my music to it and ejected it but may have unplugged it to soon. Now the ipod just keeps trying to turn on but doesn't and it won't respond to manual reset has anyone had this problem and what was done to fix it? thank you for your time I would really appriciate it.

The 5th gen iPod "classic" was the first "video" iPod.  It's video capability is more limited, and supported video resolution is lower, typically only 320x240.  Even if the video is standard def (SD), and not HD, it is probably at least 640x480.
Also, current iTunes Store video content (such as TV shows and movies) uses DRM (copy protection).  The 5th gen iPod was designed before the iTunes Store started selling video content (as it does now); I don't think it supports the DRM technology.
If you have video content that is not DRM'd and plays in iTunes (such as video podcasts), you may be able to use the convert command in iTunes.  Select the item on a list in iTunes.  From the iTunes menu bar
File -> Create New Version -> Create iPod or iPhone Version
That version may play on your iPod, so iTunes will sync it.

  • 5th gen ipod is connected and seen on itunes yet will not sync

My 5th gen ipod-nano is connected - visual and accessible on new version of itunes (using PC, running Win 7) yet will not sync. This only started happening after the last update from apple and I have spent HOURS trying to figure out how to fix including removing all apple apps and software and reinstalling 6 times now!!! Even when a diagnoses is run it shows my ipod is connected yet when I try to sync.. it tells me that disk is not found?

Well, nothing has worked yet.  Same Itunes account.  When I try to download from the App Store app on the touch, I downloads all the way to the end of the loading... installing phases. then says, "Unable to Downlad Application: app will be available for download when you log in to the Itunes Store on your computer."
But Itunes on the computer will do the same thing... load it all the way up, then give an error code of OxE8003FFE.
I tried restoring the Ipod, so now it only has the factory apps, music, videos, and no apps.  And I can't add even one app.

  • 5th Gen iPod, seen by Windoze, not by iTunes

I've been too busy lately to hang out keep up with the iTunes 7 issues, but I still have to stop the iPod service, attach my iPod, start iTunes/start the service every time I want to sync. Is there any hope that this is a temporary condition or is this just how it's gonna be from now on? iTunes 7, 5th Gen iPod w/1.2 software, XP Pro SP2.
    TIA for your comments/help.

Wow, 10 days and not a single reply. Guess I'm not the only one too dumb to figure out what's wrong with iTunes.

  • My ipod touch 5th gen randomly shut off and not been able to turn back on?

It had been laying on my bed all day long and when I took the case off there was a weird sticky residue on it. It 100% wasn't edible though so it wasn't food. What do i do?

    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode
How to put iPod touch / iPhone into DFU mode « Karthik's scribblings
    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try another cable
    - Try on another computer
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • 5th Gen iPod - Accidently Cut and Pasted in My Computer... Now Buggered

So, I was at school, listening to my music as per normal, when class ended and I had to leave. I closed iTunes before ejecting the iPod and didn't want to log off Windows without taking the iPod out first (being as its new and I love it so). I went to My Computer to eject it as a removable device, which I have never had a problem with. I right clicked the icon, but as I scrolled down the list of options, I accidently went one option too far and clicked "Cut" instead of eject. Well, figuring I had to eject it still, I "Pasted" the iPod back into the window. It ejected fine, but had been wiped in the process. This worried me...
The situation was further compounded when I went home that evening and went to replace all of my music. iTunes came up with its standard "New version available. Would you like to upgrade" box, so I said "Yes." The installation went fine until the very end, in the finishing window, where it said "Installation interrupted. Please try re-installing at a later time." This didnt worry me as I expected a restart would solve the problem. But it didnt. Not only that, iTunes was no longer in my Add/Remove Programs list. I tried re-installing the old version I received on the CD with the iPod but it did the same thing. A little frustrated, I came on to Apple.com and checked the support articles. I found that the solution they offered was "Re-install Windows." I dont have a Windows CD. Windows is burned into my hard drive, so I have whats called a recovery disc. Needless to say, I had to burn my hard drive and reinstall everything...
Now, I was finally ready to install iTunes and the iPod updater. I installed both and plugged in my iPod. Instead of the warm and inviting messages informing me of my computers undying love, I got this:
    http://www.geocities.com/dyerseveca/iPod_ErrorMessage.JPG
Needless to say, I was crushed. So here I am. My computer won't recognize my iPod, and I cannot run the updater because of this. I've tried resetting my iPod by holding the menu and centre buttons, but it gives me that same message. I have reinstalled all the software I can think of, but nothing has worked so far. I tried that XPlay software, but it says there is no iPod connected. I went to school and connected it on their computers. Works fine. Any computer I plugged it in to, the iPod showed up. Kind of like it was taunting me...
Anyways, that is my situation. I'm on day three or four (I can't remember) and I would enjoy having my iPod back. Any help you could offer would be greatly appreciated. (Also, I'm sorry for writing an epic, but the situation is making me kind of nuts.)
P.S. - I'm going to try to restore the iPod to the factory settings this weekend using my friends computer. I haven't been able to so far because my computer wont let me, and the computers at my school dont have iPod software (darn Tech's won't let me install it anyways) or they're macs, which dont help me really.
    Sorry, Im really done now....

  • IPad 1 disabled, not recognized when plugged in to any computer

I have an iPad 1 and I've been trying to get this fixed for about 2 days. It gives this message "iPad is disabled, try again in 23 million minutes" and whenever i plug it in to any computer it says "USB device not recognized". I also tried DFU mode and it still does it. Is there ANY way to restore the iPad ON the device. Or is there any way to get it fixed?

    No, check this:
Media you've bought from the iTunes Store or songs you've imported from CDs are saved in your My Music folder by default. They won't be deleted by removing iTunes. Although it's highly unlikely that you'll lose any of your iTunes Library when following the steps below, first make sure that your iTunes library is backed up. See iTunes: Back up your iTunes library by copying to an external hard drive for more information.

  • 5th Gen iPod freezes on "Do Not Disconnect" screen when connected to Mac

My iPod freezes on the "Do Not Disconnect" screen (partially backlit) when I plug it into my computer. I have a G4 eMac with standard USB connections. The ipod firmware is up to date.
This freeze doesn't occur ALL the time....just occasionally. The iPod does not appear on my desktop or in iTunes when this happens. I have to wait until the iPod discharges its battery completely before I can use it again (this sometimes takes a couple of days!).
Does anyone have any ideas? Or is anyone else experiencing this?
    Thanks....

    G4 eMac 700mhz   Mac OS X (10.4.9)   768 MB RAM

Thanks for the replies.........I can't seem to find a solution to this....its annoying to say the least. Its just happened again this morning, though it's successfully sync'd on the last few occasions....it seems to be quite random.
One thing I've noticed is that it synced OK when iTunes wasn't open when I plugged it in. It appeared on the desktop, then I opened iTunes. This morning though it froze when iTunes was already open, so there may be an issue with iTunes (I updated this weekend to see if it was any different with the new version). I guess this will happen if you've got the ipod set to open iTunes automatically when connected too.
So, no solutions as yet.......I'm gonna get onto Apple to see if they have any answers. I'll get back to you all on this one.
PS: why no firewire capabilities on the new ipods?

  • My 5th Gen iPod Nano won't connect to itunes or computer, just keeps resetting. Reinstalled itunes to no avail, other ipods connect fine...help please

I re-installed i-tunes but this didn't solve the issue.  Other iPods including additional 5th generation nanos connect and sync just fine.  When it's plugged into the computer, it says "Connected...Eject before disconnecting" but doesn't show in itunes or the computer, then the ipod resets and the cycle begins again.  It plays music just fine.  It also plays fine when directly connected by USB to a Toyota Avalon.  Any suggestions on how to resolve this?  Thanks!

    Hello djbrown1
Check with the article below to troubleshoot issues with your iPod not showing up in iTunes. There are two symptoms to look for to pick the right avenue of troubleshooting. Look for to see if your iPod shows up on your computer, similarly like a camera or an external hard drive. Check out the articles below to troubleshoot you further.

  • I have a 5th Gen iPod Video, I no longer have the original computer i used to synch with, how do I get my music from my iPod on to my iTunes on my new computer?

I have looked on here, and all I can see are solutions involving the use of both old and new computers, as I dont have the old one anymore I am hoping someone might have a workaround.
    Thanks

Connect the iPod to your computer and look at the storage used by the various categories as shown in the colored bargarph in iTunes.
    Come back with the results.
An "other" larger tha about 1 1/2 usually indicates that the "other" includes corrupted files.
    First try:
"First you go settings/general/usage/music/then left swipe over music and press delete and you would think it deletes your music but it doesn't instead it deletes your other but make sure your ipod is connected to a computer while doing this"
    as recommended by:
How do I get rid of "other" storage: Apple Support Communities
Next, usually restoring from backup eliminated the corrupted files. However, sometimes restoring to factory settings/new iPod is required.
    To restore from backup see:
    iOS: How to back up
To restore to factory settings/new iPod see:
    iTunes: Restoring iOS software
