5th gen iPod video issues

Ok. I'm on my second iPod here. Just got this one as a gift and am having trouble loading vidoe and photos to it. I'm on a Titanium PowerBook running the latest version of OS X. My boyfriend is on a pc and also has a 5th gen iPod. I connect either iPod to his pc, and all the tabs that should be there come up in the summary in his iTunes. It says my iPod is up to date. I connect to my computer and only the Summary, Music, Podcasts and Contacts tabs show up. I'm on the latest version of iTunes as well. It does say, however, that my iPod is Windows formatted. I take my iPod to work and connect to my G5, and everything is fine there too. So what do I have to do to set up my laptop at home to be able to upload videos and photos to this iPod???? I'm not finding anything in the discussions that's hitting my particular problem....
Frustrated and confused-

update: i did the archive and reinstall with my os and then ran software update. my os is clean and current, and the ipod is working perfectly.

  • 5th Gen iPod Video not syncing all video podcasts

My 5th Gen iPod video is not syncing all of my video podcasts.
I did specify in the settings to sync all videos, but for some reason it only places 3 of each on the iPod. This is using the latest version of iTunes, OS X 10.4.8, and iPod up-to-date.
This did work fine with the previous version of iTunes and only seemed to happen since the "upgrade".
I've tried restoring the ipod - didn't work
    Reinstalled iTunes - didn't work
    Rebooted system - didn't work
    Undocked/Redocked iPod - didn't work
    Please Help.

Assuming you're running iTunes 7, connect the iPod and wait for it to appear in the iTunes source list. When it does, click on it, and click on the 'podcast' tab. Make sure it is set to sync all podcasts. Check the 'video' tab as well.
iTunes 7 included several new options for setting just how the iPod will update in iTunes. So, it's a good idea to go through them and make sure they're set exactly how you'd like them to be.
    Hope this helps

  • My 5Th Gen iPod (video) never hibernates nor turns off, not even manually.

I have a 5th Gen 30GB iPod (video) (2006-May). Last one year I used it without any trouble.
Very recently it started behaving wired. First I noticed this, when I found the battery gets drained out overnight everyday. Then I figured out that my iPod is not hibernating as it used to do, when not used for long. Then I tried to turn it off manually. I pressed and hold the play/pause button for more than 2 min, couple of times (as described in manual to turn off) with no results. I am using latest software both for iPod and iTune, also tried resetting it, wiping out all music and video, but no change in its behavior. My iPod simply refuses to shut down or turn off or hibernate; only when battery gets excused the screen gets blank after draining out all the battery. Apart form that everything works fine, it pays all music and video without any problem after a recharge, of course the charge does not exist more than couple of hours.
Please help if anyone know the reason and/or fix for this problem.
Dell-6000   Windows XP Pro   iPod - 5th Gen, 30GB, video, black. Used in Win-XP Pro

How to reformat specifically to Windows FAT32? I get only one button "Restore" in the iTunes summery tab when I connect the iPod. After clicking the button it gives me a yes/no option. On yes it goes ahead with the restore operation with progress bar etc.
The problem is, in the connected mode it behaves correctly and turns off momentarily by pressing and holding play/pause button, but comes back with the charging/charged logo. Which is normal. Now at this point if I disconnect, the screen gets white for some time and then turns off.
But when not connected through the USP port (i.e. with the battery only mode) it refuses to turn off, even if I press and hold the play/pause button, also does not hibernate as it used to do previously.

  • Do 5th Gen iPod video & 3rd Gen Nano have exactly the same dock connector?

Its just I have a 5th Gen, and have just bought the wife a 3rd Nano.
I have a speaker dock that I use for my iPod Video, can she use it with her new nano?
Also just bought a iPod clock alarm, it states it supports iPod video, but only says Nano (no gen description) so is this going to be the same connector to?
I know I will need a dock plastic adapter thing, which you get it the box of the Nano so am ok there
    cheers

ah I see, so physically they are the same, and wil lfit, but it may be a different matter if they actually work
Ive just put it on a speaker dock I have, and it works fine, wil try it on a iPod dock clock alarm I have as well soon
cheers, I just didt want to push it too hard on incase it was actually a physical different size

  • ITunes 7.0.0.70 iPod Update 1.2 does not work - 5th Gen iPod Video

    All,
I have seen numerous threads on many sites highlighting this issue and yet there seems to be no resolution.
I have tried most of the suggested workarounds, namely:
    -5 Rs
-Unplug / Plugin when screen returns to menu during upgrade attempt
-Restore to earlier firmwares and iTunes versions and then upgrading
    -Erase & Sync
    Nothing works!!!
Has anyone had any luck in resolving?
Is anyone in Apple taking notice of their users requests for help?
    Please assist?

I have not been able to see or hear the podcasts due to my IPOD rebooting everytime until now. I'll tell you a solution and guess what..it won't cost you 59.00 dollars like they wanted from me...oh by the way did I say that I bought two 30 GIG Video IPODS in June and now they wanted 59.00 for support!!!! B.S.!!!! Well, here is a free temporary solution: If you are trying to listen to or see PODCASTS do they following:
    1. Watch or listen to them in ITUNES for a couple seconds (You have to watch or listen to them pointing to the PODCAST area of your IPOD)
    2. then you should be able to EJECT your IPOD and listen to them as normal again.
NOTE: Each time you download another podcast you will have to do this again until the idiots (who by the way wanted 59.00 dollars for support three months after I just spent 600.00 dollars on these 2 lovely video ipods) fix the problem.
And guess what...i didn't charge you one red cent for this lovely advice! Now that is what i am calling customer service! Hey Apple do you see that, i just helped all these people without having to get RICH off them. Loyal Customers deserve good customer service..get with the picture!

  • Can someone help me out with this.  I have a 5th Gen Ipod video,

every time I try and play a song the Ipod shuts off.  the battery is fully charged at least it shows on the ipod full.  Everytime I play a song it will maybe play 2 sec and then shuts off and turn back on.  Has anybody ever had this issue and is there a way to fix it?
    Thanks

    Okay.
I responded as I did because you wrote, "I have 2 ipads and my iphone that I back up on one computer"
    No worries here.
But hopefully you get/got it sorted.
    Any issues, post back.

  • 5th Gen Ipod Sync Issue

My ipod shows up in Finder but not in Itunes. It does the equivalent on PC (My computer not itunes). I have reset it without any luck. Does anyone have any ideas?

The second one was very helpful, I had somehow missed it, thank you so much.
I did run into one issue when I was trying to complete the steps listed as I have absolutely no idea what Step 3 means. Can anyone walk me through it? It says:
    Step 3
    Delete the iPod.plist file
Remove the following file in the your home directory and launch the iPod updater again
    ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.ipod.plist

  • Hi, can anyone tell me the capacity of battery for 5th gen ipod video?

Hi just a purchased what was advertised as a 850mAh battery for iPod and received a 480mAh instead. Guess where i bought it? eBay of course, should have known better i didnt even think you could get a batt. of that strength for 30g. i have emailed the seller but wanted to know what the actual capacity was as i dare'nt open my iPod at this stage. Any advice would be helpful, thanks Dolly.

You didn't mention which of the video iPods you have as they use slightly different batteries.
But, the 30GB uses a smaller battery in that range you mention, something like 450-500mAh. You can buy better ones rated at about 550mAh from online retailers.
For the 60 and 80 GB models, both of those use larger 850mAh batteries.
So if you use a 30GB iPod, despite the advertisement saying they carried 850mAh batteries, which would be only for 60/80GB models, you basically got the correct battery. Although as I said, you can buy slightly higher capacity ones for the 30GB if you wanted, but not double.

  • I have a 5th Gen iPod Video, I no longer have the original computer i used to synch with, how do I get my music from my iPod on to my iTunes on my new computer?

I have looked on here, and all I can see are solutions involving the use of both old and new computers, as I dont have the old one anymore I am hoping someone might have a workaround.
    Thanks

Connect the iPod to your computer and look at the storage used by the various categories as shown in the colored bargarph in iTunes.
    Come back with the results.
An "other" larger tha about 1 1/2 usually indicates that the "other" includes corrupted files.
    First try:
"First you go settings/general/usage/music/then left swipe over music and press delete and you would think it deletes your music but it doesn't instead it deletes your other but make sure your ipod is connected to a computer while doing this"
    as recommended by:
How do I get rid of "other" storage: Apple Support Communities
Next, usually restoring from backup eliminated the corrupted files. However, sometimes restoring to factory settings/new iPod is required.
    To restore from backup see:

To restore to factory settings/new iPod see:

  • Unable to restore my 5th gen ipod video (unknown error 1418)

going through, listening to a regular album on my ipod speakers, as i usually do, my ipod just abruptly freezes after the end of one song. upon reseting, i was presented with the apple logo upon a black background, as usual, and then a white screen saying "connect to your computer. use itunes to restore." in four different languages. from there it switches itself off. when i try to turn it back on, it does the same.
i connected it to the computer to do as it suggested, where it proceeds to freeze my computer for up to 10 minutes, until the ipod does appear in itunes. when i try to restore it however, im presented with an error stating 'an unknown error has occurred. error 1418', or something to that effect.
so following the apple website's instructions, i updated itunes to 7.6, and tried again to no avail. i tried a different usb port, reregistered .dll files, and updated my windows USB drivers, but this has changed nothing.
can anybody suggest any other factors that are stopping me restoring. i have accepted the fact that i will need to restore it, its just a matter of now completing that task.
any help would be greatly appreciated.

One possible cause is a drive conflict...
Windows confuses iPod with network drive or hard drive and may keep iPod from mounting or songs may seem to disappear

Note the seventh symptom where it keeps needing to be restored.

  • 5th Gen Ipod Disconnect Issue

Last night I was having trouble disconnecting my new ipod from itunes, even after hitting the disconnect button in itunes I was still getting the "do not disconnect" screen on the ipod. So I rebooted my computer. During the reboot, the "do not disconnect" screen went away (ipod still connected to computer) and the regular main menu came up on the ipod so I went ahead and disconnected it from my computer. About 30 seconds later the "do not disconnect" screen came up on the ipod (ipod not connected) so I connected the ipod to my computer, but itunes wouldn't recognize it, so I reset the ipod (holding menu plus middle button on ipod) THEN disconnected it from my computer. Since then it has been working totally fine although it takes a full 2 minutes to disconnect it from itunes which "seems" longer than before but maybe not.
This morning I called Apple and described the problem. They told me I didn't do anything wrong and that nothing should be wrong with the ipod.
As of now everything seems to be working fine with the ipod and I haven't noticed any problems. Does anyone here think I could have physically damaged the ipod's hard drive in the above scenario?
    Dell Desktop   Windows XP

One other thing - it takes just about a full two minutes, after disconnecting/ejecting the ipod in itunes, for the "do not disconnect" screen to go away. Is this the average time for most of you? BTW - my ipod is the brand new 5g 80gb model and it's about 53gb full.

  • 5th gen ipod video makes hard disk sounds when playing certain songs and lags then frrezes when trying to change

it makes a constant clicking noise like its stuck but plays the song fine till i try and change songs. it freezes, but the song still plays fine. any idea on what it could be? 30gb classic...

When the iPod starts to make non-music noises like clicking and stutters, it is a sign that some cluster of your hardisk is going bad.
The Restore do help by Reallocating the bad cluster, so that iTunes don't put any music there, anyway there are pending sectors, which is marked good after several tries, and iTunes put music there. So your problem will come back again, depending on how tender you are with your iPod.
So do a backup as soon as you can, use a 3rd party software if you need to backup from your iPod to portable hardisk, if you haven't backup your iTunes library.

  • 5th gen ipod, video file import from P.C

    Pleeeeeeeese help.
Have followed help advice to import video file from my p.C to Itunes, however nothing appears to be imported!?!?
    Any ideas peeps.

    Hey Littsy,
Are you seeing any error messages?
Click on File(inside iTunes)> Add File to Library>select the file.
What type of video file are you trying to add to itunes? Where did the video come from?

  • Where is f/w 1.2 (60GB 5th Gen iPod video)

I have read messages on here saying the latest firmware is v1.2 and is included with iTunes 7 download, but this wasn't the case for me. My iTunes 7.0.1 download did not contain the v1.2 f/w update. Has it been pulled? It doesn't seem to be separately downloadable.
    Nigel

OK, sorry being stupid. Sorted now. iPod Updater now fully integarted with iTunes triggered update from within (I'm used to it being a separate program to do the update). Now running v1.2 f/w and gapless playback testing as I write. Not perfect but a lot better than before.

  • 5th Gen IPOD Battery Issues

The cable for my replacement battery does not stay put in power receptacle on the circuit board.  How do I make it stay "plugged in" and not just fall out?

Why does it not stay put?  Are you sure you locked the little clip in that holds the ribbon cable in place or checked to make sure it isn't broken?
