5th Gen Snycs but doesn't charge.

So I've read tons and tons of threads about similar issues but so far haven't come across anything that was really of help. When I plug my ipod (5th gen) into my computer it is instantly recognized as a mass storage device and pops right up on itunes. It works as intended and I'm able to access it and sync it just fine. The problem comes with charging. I recently purchased a new computer and decided to just restore my ipod and re-sync all my music. The problem is that it isn't charging and runs out of battery before it can finish resulting in messed up data. I never had problems with it charging on my old computer and it also charges fine on my roommate's computer.. just not mine.
If I go into the Device Manager from System Properties in XP and go down to the USB Controllers, I can see that it is indeed 2.0 and powered. When I click on the different USB Root Hubs and click the Power tab, I can see where it says "Total power available: 500 mA per port" and down below where it shows what is connected and how much power it needs. I can plug in a mouse and it shows it requiring 98 mA or my keyboard which pops up as requiring 300 mA. This tells me that the ports are supplying the necessary power without any problems. Also when I plugged my ipod into my roommate's computer it pops up as requiring 500 mA and seems to charge as normal. All this seems fine but when I plug my ipod into my computer, nothing pops up at all in the Attached devices list for the Root Hub.
I hope all that makes sense like that and if I can clarify anything, please let me know. Thank you.

Hmm, upon further investigation my problem has changed. Apparently it is getting power. It seems my logic was flawed. What I was doing was plugging in my extra mouse and then finding the USB Root Hub where it popped up.. then disconnecting the mouse and plugging the iPod into the same port expecting it to pop up only it didn't.. it appears under a different Root Hub. Even in the same port, the mouse appears under the 2nd one down the list and the iPod under the 6th one. Odd. So it says there it is getting power after all. I guess I was just looking into my problem in the wrong spot.
It still seems like it is having a charge-while-syncing issue though. I've read that syncing/hd access is hard on the battery but shouldn't the 500 mA from the USB be enough to keep up the charge while transferring music? I think for now I'm just going to manually transfer a handful of songs at a time while plugging it into the wall to charge up between sessions. Doesn't sound fun but I'd like to be done with it.

Can you play the song in iTunes?
If you can't the song file is probably corrupt and needs to be replaced.

  • IPod Touch (5th Gen) Battery Won't Hold Charge

After the last update my iPod Touch 5th Gen will not hold a charge. I haven't had any problems with it until this 8.1.1 update. Yesterday I charged the battery up to full charge and  used it briefly to listen to music in my car however here it is the next day and the battery is dead again. It is NOT playing while not in my car. Meaning nothing should be running the battery down because it's not being used.  I know it's not playing because the volume is set to half way so I'd undoubtedly hear it if it was playing.  It just won't hold a charge and for no apparent reason. Any suggestions?

  • 2nd Gen iPod Touch Doesn't Charge at all

2nd Gen iPod Touch Doesn't Charge at all, not on pc or mac or wall or anywhere. I need the information on it, last time it was backed up was 2 years ago, cracked glass and bad headphone jack. can Apple help me get my info out of it? it is out of warranty, can i pay to have it fully recovered as if it never died?

Try connecting it for a charging source for 24 hours.
    Then try:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Then see if iTunes can see the iPod so you can get info from it
    - Inspect the dock connector for bend or missing contacts, foreign material, corroded contacts, broken, missing or cracked plastic.
    - Make an appointment at the Genus Bar of an Apple store. They may or may not be able to get info from the iPod. It depends upon what is wrong

  • When I connect my iPad to my windows 7 computer it syncs alright but doesn't charge. Has anybody have any answers. Thanks.

Hi can someone please let me know why my ipad2 syncs but doesn't charge. I'm using windows 7.

The quickest way to charge your iPad is with the included 10W USB Power Adapter. iPad will also charge, although more slowly, when attached to a computer with a high-power USB port (many recent Mac computers) or with an iPhone Power Adapter. When attached to a computer via a standard USB port (most PCs or older Mac computers) iPad will charge, but only when it's in sleep mode. Make sure your computer is on while charging iPad via USB. If iPad is connected to a computer that’s turned off or is in sleep or standby mode, the iPad battery will continue to drain.
Apple recommends that once a month you let the iPad fully discharge & then recharge to 100%.
At this link http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/galaxy-tab-android-tablet,3014-11.html , tests show that the iPad 2 battery will charge to 90% in 3 hours 1 minute. It will charge to 100% in 4 hours 2 minutes.
     Cheers, Tom

  • TA44551 my gen 4 iPod doesn't charge, the usb cable is good(works on other apple products) What should i do?

my gen 4 iPod doesn't charge, the usb cable is good(works on other apple products) What should i do?

What normally happens is most people take showers and listen to thier ipods or live around many sources of humidity.  Moisture corrodes the 30 pin connector on the ipod touch.  Clean and inspect the ipod touch's connection pins to resolve most charging/ sync issues.. The pins could also be dirty, bent or broken.  If dirty: Take 91% rubbing alcohol, dip a tooth brush into it, shake the excessive alcohol off leaving the brush damp(don't use to much alcohol, it should not be dripping).  Careful!!! The Pins are Very Fragile! Gently brush the connector pins, long ways, left to right in a few second bursts, inspecting the pins as you go...   If you have an eye loop or magnifying glass you can see inside the connector easily and see if the pins look dirty or bent or broken.  If they are bent you have to VERY GENTLY stand them back up.  If they are bent very far down, chances are you will snap them off trying to straighten them back up.  If they are not severely bent over, use a very small flat head precision screw driver to bend the pin back parallel with the good pins.  Pease note: certain pins are used by the wire for different things such as sync or charging... If your pins are broken off, do a search and find out what the individual pins on the ipod 30 pin connector do to see what is affected.  Worst case is your pins are broken off.  U can attempt to solder the broken pins back on without opening the ipod touch, which is super difficult to do, or you can open the touch and repair/replace to 30 pin connector entirely.  U will need to do some micro soldering to say to least! Don't attempt unless you are confident in your soldering skills and research how to open an ipod touch? You will need some specific tools and watch out for floating LINT!  Get some canned air ;) use a small 1/2 second bursts from 4-6" away because it will steam up you touch if used for to long. Good luck!

    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try another cable
    - Try on another computer

  • 5th Gen always thinks it's charging

    Howdy folks.
I have a 30gb black 5th gen video iPod. Whenever I disconnect it from my computer (which I am doing correctly), the little battery icon on the iPod will switch to the non charging icon. Great. However, 30 seconds later, it switches back to the charging icon. The iPod won't go to sleep like this, and it just burns through the battery until it gets to the "very low battery error".
It's a pain. Anybody have a fix for this?

have you tried a restore? seems to be the #1 solution posted for everything iPod, but sounds worth a try in this case. report back if it doesn't fix the problem.

  • Brand-new iPod Touch 5th gen often freezes win7 while charging

    Hi,
I've had a new iPod touch 5th gen for about two weeks now.
I also have a laptop that runs Win7, that has had no problems whatsoever until now, and that has no problems when the iPod isn't plugged in.
    Here's what happens:
I plug in the iPod Touch to update files and recharge the battery
All goes well, iTunes sees iPod, battery's charging
    Lalala
    Bam! Some 15-30min later:
    Laptop freezes over.
I have had to manually shut down the laptop more than a dozen times in a couple weeks now.
The iPod is killing the laptop dead. Slowly, but surely, it's happening.
I love my laptop. I NEED my laptop. I otherwise love the iPod too
This happens whether the iPod is ejected, but still charging, or not; whether iTunes is on or not
I unplug the iPod: nothing; laptop still dead.
Sometimes, it happens when I change songs, as I simultaneously listen to the iPod while it charges.
Other times, it happens while fiddling with playlists and tag infos in iTunes. (<-- I am particularly weary of this one, since, it seems to me, the iPod takes a few good seconds to access tag infos/change songs, much longer than, for instance, did my iPod Nano 5th gen, though, understandably, that one did not have an OS)
Other times, it just happens suddenly, with no apparent cause other than that the iPod is plugged in.
Could it be the cable? (any way to find that out without investing in a new cable? )
The iPod runs iOS 6.1.3; the laptop runs iTunes 11.0.5.5.
The laptop is equipped with a fairly new SSD, no HDD [does that matter?!]
Any help/ideas to get these two to get along would be greatly appreciated !! Thanks.

If yo mean the iPod freeze and does some things when charging. other users have experienced that problem. However. I have not seen a reply concerning the resolution.

  • 5th gen. battery doesnt hold a charge

ipod nano 5th gen doesnt hold a charge

    This works:
Make sure your iPod is completely flat.
Then charge it fully. (zero to 100% non-stop)
When it goes flat again, leave it alone for a few days.
    Then charge it fully again.
Do this a couple of times
This kind of gives the battery a boost.
    Hope this helps

  • Could you trade in your iPod 5th gem for another 5th gen iPod but a different color

  • Ipod shuffe 2nd gen plays music but doesn't charge and not recognised by computer.

My ipod shuffle 2nd Gen plays the music I have already on but neither
my mac nor my windows 7 pc recognise it and it no longer charges.
    Help please

If you've tried the iPod on multiple computers and it's playing fine, just not working with a PC or Mac I would have to say it's most likely your dock/cable. Try using a new one, or a friends.

  • MacBook water spill - works but doesn't charge. Apple doesn't do partial repairs?

I spilled some water on my MacBook Pro (15in retina).
I let it dry for a couple of days then powered it. It worked.
When the battery got to 0%, I plugged the MacSafe and it didn't charge. It sometimes charges, but intermittently. It charges very rarely.
I brought the laptop to the Apple Store, and they said that it would cost $2000 to repair, because they want to replace EVERY parts that were water stained.
I only want to change the Adapter Port, and POSSIBLY the Logic Board IF changing the Adapter Port didn't fix the charging issue. Knowing the above, it will most likely work, but if it doesn't, that's OK, I'll buy a new one. I'd rather risk $3-400 by doing this and buying a new Macbook IF it fails, than paying 2K for a repair straight away.
Of course my laptop could break eventually if not all parts are replaced, but that's fine (I was able to wash some water stains with alcohol already).
Why doesn't Apple simply change the parts that must be changed, letting the customer take a risk or whatever if he wants so?
IMO -- Terrible policy that must be reviewed.
