5th Gen vs 5.5 Gen

What is the difference between the 5G and the 5.5G iPod?

Amazon.com can call the newer 5th Gen iPods by any name they want.
I'm not about to start a campaign against them. If they want to ignore Apple's official nomenclature for their own marketing purposes... that's their choice.
My point above was that according to Apple, the manufacurer of the iPod, there is no such thing as a 5.5 Gen iPod. Apple has chosen to designate the newer 5th Gen iPods as 'Late 2006 5th Generation iPod' in order to differentiate between the two 30GB models.

  • Is the Facetime experience with an iPad 3 better with the Touch 5th gen over a 4th gen?

I want to buy an ipod touch to use Facetime with my wife as she has the iPad 3.
I intend to use the iPod touch for the following reasons:
    60% - Facetime to an iPad 3 (iOS6)
    25% - Rear camera for photos/video
    10% - Music/Apps
    5% - Other
I've briefly introduced myself to Facetime at an apple store when it was first introduced but never physically seen it in use outside an apple store.
I'm trying to justify why I should buy a 5th gen 32GB touch over a 4th gen 8GB. I'm GUESSING the REFURB 5th gens, when its released from the apple store, will go for $249CAN instead of $299CAN; a 92%/$120 price difference over the 4th gen refurb ($129CAN).
    Just so you're aware, I could easily justify buying a 5th gen 32GB refurb $249CAN over a 4th gen 32GB refurb $179CAN.
Besides the obvious (hard drive space, camera resolutions, future iOS upgrades, etc.) is the Facetime experience with an iPad 3 better with the Touch 5th gen over a 4th gen?
    Much appreciated in advance.

    any advice please??
Upgrading to Snow Leopard = OS X 10.6.x
It is Not available as a download... It is a Paid Upgrade.
    Do this first...
Check that your Mac meets the System Requirements for Snow Leopard...
    Snow Leopard Tech Specs
    http://support.apple.com/kb/SP575
If so... Purchase a Snow Leopard Install Disc...
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC573Z/A/mac-os-x-106-snow-leopard
    Other countries...
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HE57
After the Successful Install, run Software Update to get the latest updates for Snow Leopard and iTunes.
You should now be able to Sync.
Be sure to make a Backup of your Current System Before Upgrading...

  • Mini 1st Gen Harddrive in 2nd Gen mini

Hey there.. i have two ipod minis, one is a 1st gen and the other is a 2nd gen.
The 2nd gen's hard drive is giving me a wierd repetitive whirling sound and is displaying the sad ipod. However my first gen mini's harddrive is working fine.
So i carefully transferred the 1st gen's hd to the 2nd gen but then it didnt even notice it... it did the apple bootup then just reset without reading the hd. So then i put the hd back into the 1st gen and it worked fine :S.
The reason im wanting to use the 2nd gen mini is because the 1st gen's clickwheel "Play/Pause" button doesnt work.
Any suggestions? Should the 1st Gen Mini's hard drive work in the 2nd Gen Mini?

Are they the same capacity? I can look into it if you want.

  • How can i get my music off of my email to my iPod touch 2nd gen and iPod 4th gen?

How can i get my music off of my email to my iPod touch 2nd gen and iPod 4th gen?

Find an app to which you can save the attachment and which also uses file sharing
    iOS: About File Sharing
or similar to get the music into your computer. Import into iTunes library and sync to the iPod. There is no direct way to get music into your iPod Music app besides purchasing  from iTunes or syncing from your iTunes library
GoodReader should work but I do not think it is available for the 2G

  • 5th Gen iPod and 2nd gen Nano will connect to Mac, not found by iTunes

I bought a brand new MacBook running OSX 10.4.9, and I cannot get my 5th gen iPod video nor my 2nd gen Nano to be recognized by iTunes. The computer recognizes that there are two drives-- they come up on the desktop. But iTunes will not notice them, let alone play music from them. These iPods are mostly used with Windows 2000 PC laptops, and I'm connecting them via USB.
    What should I do?
    Thanks,

  • Slow 5th Gen Extreme vs 1st Gen

I wonder why the Wi-Fi signal strength on a new 5th Generation Extreme would be way slower than the 1st Generation
AE.  All the same connections/settings as before.  Weirder, the 5th Gen had faster ISP speed test than the 1st Generation
AE.  Another one for the unsolved mystery files of Appledom

wireless is a whole big steaming pot of voodoo.
To actually track down a particular issue you really need to spend the time and work out in excruiating detail what is going on.
Do you still have the 1st Gen AE to test with? Sometimes the exact setup is important.
If you do have it available.. plug it in and do the test.
Hold down the option key and use the wireless diagnostics built into Mountain Lion.
It will run some tests.. the usefulness of which I am unsure.
Well it decided I was using the wrong country codes.. not a biggie for me..
Now you can open the real diagnostics ..
Go to the scan page to see what else is inflicted on you in this place.
Go to the performance chart and see how things go, particularly during an actual file transfer.
Now swap over to the Gen5 and do the whole thing again.. see what the link speed is like and see how the noise and interference is like.
Spend a bit of time forcing channels and use 2.4ghz and 5ghz.. and see what goes.

  • Do 5th Gen iPod video & 3rd Gen Nano have exactly the same dock connector?

Its just I have a 5th Gen, and have just bought the wife a 3rd Nano.
I have a speaker dock that I use for my iPod Video, can she use it with her new nano?
Also just bought a iPod clock alarm, it states it supports iPod video, but only says Nano (no gen description) so is this going to be the same connector to?
I know I will need a dock plastic adapter thing, which you get it the box of the Nano so am ok there
    cheers

ah I see, so physically they are the same, and wil lfit, but it may be a different matter if they actually work
Ive just put it on a speaker dock I have, and it works fine, wil try it on a iPod dock clock alarm I have as well soon
cheers, I just didt want to push it too hard on incase it was actually a physical different size

  • New 80gig 5th Gen - had a 4th Gen col ipod - transfer songs??

I have just received my new 80gb ipod and I am worried about the following:
I have itunes on my machine linked to my previous Ipod photo and I have it synced to an external HD for the music library.
All I want to do is tell the new ipod to take over fomr now on and see he external HD and pull hte music over? I'm worried I will lose everything?
Whats the best proceedure for this?
    Thanks for any tips

This might seem a daft question and I apologise in advance but have you ever added these songs to the iTunes library on the new computer as well as pointing iTunes to the external drive? The reason I ask is that when you consolidate, any songs in the iTunes Library that are not in the iTunes Music Folder are copied to the Music Folder and the Library is updated to point at those new files. Files already in the iTunes Music Folder have no changes made to them. That's all consolidating does. If you have simply connected an external drive but not actually added the songs to the library that may be your problem. To add to the library without copying songs to the iTunes Music folder make sure that in the iTunes Preferences>Advanced>General, you untick the box "Copy files to to iTunes Music folder when adding to library: About the Add to Library, Import and Convert functions

  • Please help, 3rd gen works fine, 2nd gen not recognized

My wife & daughter got a 3rd gen ipod for xmas, they are working fine, but my sons 2nd gen ipod is not recognized by the computer or itunes. Nor will it charge, & now to top it off the battery appears to be dead so i cannot reset, restore, or anything. Before xmas it worked fine. Any suggestions for getting it working again.

Have you tried plugging it into a wall charger? If the battery truly is toast, then you need to replace it.

  • Airplay from ipad 1 gen to ATV 3 gen "an error occurred loading this content try again later"

    Hi everyone!,
I just bought a new Apple tv 3 gen which is great.
My situation is the next. I have an add hoc wifi which obviously cant connect with my ATV cause ATV doesnt have browser to set user password. This connection is not quite fast, so problem added to the previous. The thing is that I want to use my ipad 1 gen to airplay content to the apple tv. It works great with pictures and even music (my own library or spotify streamed music).
The problem comes when I try to airplay video from youtube or embedded video from safari so it keeps saying "an error occurred loading this content try again later".
I tried with my iphone 6 and with an iphone 5 and the same, no video from youtube nor web.
If I try to airplay a video that is inside my phone, it works flawlessly.
the specs say that you need at least 6mb connection, but that seems to stream directly from the ATV cause ATV doesn't have hd to store data, but my ipad streams it and plays it like a charm, but when I airplay to the apple tv got the problem.
I also can stream video from my old mac mini through the network using airparrot but it doesn't allow me to send audio, seems to be problems sending audio and video while streaming..
    Any help?
    does anyone solved it?
    thanks in an advance!

Two problems seems to be causing this:
1- My poor download connection. Testing its speed barely reaches 1.5 download speed, though it's enough to stream movies with ipad, or computers.
2- the router I have connected to my antenna to create my own network. it is a normal 150 mbps tp-link range extender which is used to create a wifi. This 150 mbps might be much more than a half.
I have tried with a 300 mbps router and now I don´t get the error, but it seems that streaming with my ipad and airplay to the apple tv overloads the network and it loads quite slow in my atv.

  • Which airport is better, 2nd gen express or 2nd gen extreme

I use an older 2nd generation airport extreme on the 2nd floor of my house and needed another to cover another portion of the house and recently bought a 2nd gen airport express to extend it.
My question is, which is better(more powerful) to use as the main wifi hub: the 2nd generation extreme or the 2nd generation express?

The 2nd Gen AirPort Express is a simultaneous dual band product, which will produce both a 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz network. The 2nd Gen AirPort Extreme cannot do this. For what it is worth, the 2nd Gen Express is capable of higher wireless speeds than the 2nd Gen AirPort Extreme as well.
If you use the 2nd Gen Express as the "main" router, you will have the benefit of dual band performance for devices that connect to the AirPort Express in the main area.  If you have any 5 GHz capable devices, they will connect at higher speeds than other devices as well because of the dual band capability of the Express.
The 2nd Gen AirPort Extreme is not simultaneous dual band capable, so it will extend only one band from the AirPort Express, likely the 2.4 GHz band since it is the stronger signal.
It probably does not make much sense to use the 2nd Gen AirPort Extreme as the main router, since the Express will only be able to extend one band from the AirPort Extreme, since that is all that it can produce at one time.  On the other hand, if you are happy with the AirPort Extreme as the main router, and you are not looking for higher speed capability in the main area, you could continue to use the Extreme as your main router.  It does look more impressive.
As far as rated signal strength, you might be surprised to learn that Apple rates the smaller 2nd Gen Express as having just a bit higher signal output power than the 2nd Gen Extreme.
One question though....other than the modem, how many devices do you plan to connect using a wired Ethernet connection to your "main" router?

  • Can I Exchange AppleTV 2nd Gen With The 3rd Gen?

Hi this is my first time posting. I got my AppleTV in the mail using my dad's points he racked up this last year. He owns a company that buys supplies from another company so we end up getting a lot of points fast. We ordered our AppleTV in mid-January and we got it about 2 weeks ago (Not sure have to check that). I was wondering can I exchange it in the Apple Store when the 3rd gen come out?

Hey, I had the same question, and I fully exchanged mine actually through an exchange listing on eBay.
    Here's the link:

This guy is a top-rated plus powerseller, and he actually fully exchanged mine for a brand new 3rd gen.
    highly recommended.

  • 1st Gen V.S. 2nd Gen

    In need of opinions...
Refurb (from Apple) 1st Gen iPod Touch 8GB - $190.64
    New 2nd Gen iPod Touch 8GB - $243.89
From what Ive seen, the differences are: Volume Buttons, Speaker, New Design, Genius
Do you think those differences are worth $50 more?? I know its early and no one has one...but Im just lookin for some thoughts.

I'd go for the new Gen2, but that is me. The one thing that has always drove me nuts with the current version is no speaker. There are times when I'd like to just check out a video or review something in the news where there is audio and I either have to go get earphones or plug it into a speaker system. That alone would be worth the difference.
I am honestly considering selling my current 32gb and buying one of the newer 32gb even if it cost me a little more. The sleek look is nice, but not worth the upgrade. I am still pondering my options, but would sure love to have that speaker! Wish I could hear one. I also really like the volume buttons along the side.
Everyone has different needs and wants so you'll have to decide based on that. If the speaker and volume controls aren't that worthy to you, then keep the refurb Gen1 and save your money.
