5th gen won't charge with old power plug anymore

I have a video iPod which used to charge with no problem with my old firewire/dock cable and plug. I also used the iPod adapter with an iGo charger without problems. Since I did the most recent software update, I can't charge it with either of them; nothing happens when I plug it in. I can only charge it using the USB port and the dock (I don't have a USB power plug charger).
Does this make sense or am I missing something that would fix the problem. I'd like to be able to use the iGo when I travel, and it is connected to my laptop, so I don't know why it will no longer charge.
Thanks!
iBook 14G3, iMac17G3, PowerBook 12 G$   Mac OS X (10.3)

Same here...
If I connect to my Car Adapter it MAY shortly show the charging screen, but goes to Off mode shortly afterwards...
I think it is since the last software update.
Sorry, can't help.

  • IPod 5th gen won't charge with wall charger

I just recently purchased a 5th gen iPod touch. I had a little USB wall charger for my camera and decided to charge my iPod with it. It didn't work and it charges on a computer just fine so it isn't the cable. I then tried using my friend's Apple wall charger which worked for his iPhone 4 just fine. That didn't work either but my iPod will charge with a computer. Any ideas?

    - Try another cable. Some 5G iPods were shipped with Lightning cable that were either initially defective or failed after short use.
    - Try another charging source
    - Inspect the dock connector on the iPod for bent or missing contacts, foreign material, corroded contacts, broken, missing or cracked plastic.

  • IPod touch 3rd gen won't charge with apple cable

This problem with my iPod is that it just won't charge with the Apple cable to my mac. When I plug it into the wal charger from Apple it does charge, but on the USB is keeps saying that charging isn't supported with this accessory.
Please help, since I'll have to charge my iPod with the USB for the coming 5 months!

I know this may sound stupid, but it was the same problem I had and wanted to tell you just in case you have a case on your ipod.
I had a soft gel case on my ipod touch and it prevented the cables from going in all the way.  It would work from time to time and in the computer USB and wall charger it would work once then not for a few weeks.  I just make sure my cover is not in the way of any of the cords and I have never had that problem again.
mine is the 3rd Gen touch too.

  • My iPod 5th gen won't charge:'(

As stated in the tittle my iPod won't charge. I have looked at a lot of the similar posts but none of them are helpful. I can NOT get into DFU mode, I HAVE read both iPod touch: Hardware troubleshooting and iPhone and iPod touch: Charging the battery pages, I HAVE tried another cable and another wall charger, I HAVE checked all connections/sockets on the iPod, cord, and wallcharger for debree, rust, or other forign materials, and I HAVE tried plugging it into my computer.
Just for clarification, my sister has an iPod 5th gen with the iOS 7.0.4 and her iPod charges on both mine and her cable/wallcharger/computer BUT my iPod does not charge on any combination of those. The nearest apple store is 1hr 29mins from me (I checked!)
Usually computers and tech do not elude my deductive skills but this has me stumped! Please help! Any of such is greatly appriecated!

Mine had been fading for a while before the warranty was up, and then became mostly unchargeable in the eleventh month.
I took it to a Genius bar where they were able to test it and swap it for a new iPod touch.
Just make sure you have done a very careful backup before you go, I have had weird sync problems after the swap, getting my stuff back.
I suggest the simplest method is to clear off just about everything you can, especially the photos. Less to chase when things go pear shaped.

  • 5th Gen won't charge on Bose SoundDock

I plugged my brand new 5th gen Nano intou my Bose SoundDock. The Ipod screen said "Charging is not supported with this accessory". WTH!!! It will play the i-pod, but my $300 SoundDock can't charge it?
My 4th gen worked fine and had no issues. Anyone else heard of this? Looks like I might be packing it back up and sending it back.

Apple removed the Firewire compatibility - 12V charging support. The new ipods - 5th generation nano, ipod Touch, etc. no longer will charge in older accessories. So far, I have located two adapters which should allow the newer ipods to charge in the older devices - like the Bose Sounddock.
Scosche PassPORT USB Home Charging Adapter ($25.47), Griffin Charge Converter Adapter for All iPods and iPhones ($18.32). I don't think the Griffin device will fit in the Bose Sounddock - it's more for the car accessories. These are both available through Amazon.com. (There appear to be some other options as well.)
Gotta say though - Apple support was awful! I went into the Apple store to ask about this "problem" since I got a nano 5g for Christmas. Do you think they even gave me the explanation of why it wouldn't work? No, their answer was that they didn't make the devices I was talking about (Bose Sounddock, car connection, iHome clock radio) and I would have to contact the manufacturer of each one! I had to search the internet to find out why the nano wouldn't work with the accesories. And why can't Apple make an adapter? They changed the technology. Bottom line - biggest market share, $ matter, not customer support.

  • Ipod touch 5th gen won't charge?

My ipod touch will no longer charge, and I can't figure out why.  I have tried connecting it to all usb ports on 2 different computers, as well as to a wall charger, with no luck.  All that will show on my screen is a low battery symbol on a black background, which shows up for a few seconds if I hold down the power button.
I have tried to reset the ipod several times by holding the home and power button, but it does nothing.  I also tried putting the ipod into recovery mode, and itunes detected it and gave me the option of resetting the device.  After a few minutes however, an error popped up in itunes saying that it was unable to reset the device.
I'm out of ideas, please help!

  • Ipod touch (5th gen) won't sync with computer

I had to close my itunes on my computer because it was not responding and now my ipod won't sync with my itunes anymore.  It charges normally, but my computer reads the ipod now as a camera instead of an ipod.

    Try:
    - Reboot the computer
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.

  • IPod touch 5th gen won't charge or start up

I recently had to give up my iPhone and went to get my iPod. It wouldn't start up at first so I tried turning it on. Which didn't work so I figured the battery was dead. I plugged it in and the battery symbol thing pops up after a minute and only shows up for 3 seconds then the screen goes dark and it keeps repeating the process which leads me to believe it will not charge no matter what I do. I tried holding the power button, I also tried holding the power and home button only to find out my efforts did nothing. My computer won't find it if its plugged into the USB (USB 3.0 port) and its just frustrating because it worked perfectly before I got my phone.

    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode

    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try another cable
    - Try on another computer
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • My iPod Touch 5th Generation won't charge with the cable

There are no bents on the charger. When I plug it into my computer (MacBook Air) it says that a USB has used to much power and something like that... I already have my iPod updated to the ios 7. I had the iPod for about 3 months now. What is wrong with it?

  • Ipod 60GB 5th gen won't sync with iTunes.

I have an Ipod 60b 5th gen (software 1.2.1) and Itunes 11.0.2 version. It's the current version for both of them. Itunes recognizes the Ipod but, when it stars to sync, I get a message saying that the attempt failed because it's not possible to read or copy on the disc. Dows anyone know how to fix it?
    Thank you!

Place the iOS device in Recovery Mode and then connect to your computer and restore via iTunes. The iPod will be erased.

If you restore from iCloud backup the apps will be automatically downloaded. If you restore from iTunes backup the apps and music have to be in the iTunes library since synced media like apps and music are not included in the backup of the iOS device that iTunes makes.

  • My iPod touch 5th gen isn't charging and when I plug my working charger in that I've always used a message pops up that says "This accessory may not be supported". So can I send it in for a new one if I have a warranty?

For Christmas, my older sister got me a portable charger for my iPod. I'm not sure if it was capable with apple products, but it charged my iPod when I used it. My brother came upstairs and took my portable charger from me, so I went to go use my wall charger. The wall charger I have has always worked and it charges my mom's iPhone, so the problem I have isn't my charger. After I plugged my iPod in my charger, a message popped up saying "This accessory may not be supported". I was confused because this never has happened before, so I tried my portable charger after I got the message. The portable charger didn't charge my iPod anymore apparently after I tried my charger. All this happened the day after Christmas, so it's almost been a month without my iPod charging properly. My iPod does charge, but only when I plug it in halfway and am about to turn it all the way off. The only way I get it to charge is when I plug it in real fast as soon as I turn my iPod completely off. I've also restarted my iPod, cleaned out the charging area, asked people at stores that work with technology, and etc, so if someone could help me resolve this problem that would be legit because I use my iPod on a daily basis.

That message is usually due to a bad cable.

  • 5th gen 80g only charges with fire wire

Hi my 80 gig ipod did not work after not charging for a long time (it just said battery to low please wait then a blank screen) so i put a new battery in it came on all good but when i plugged it in my mac nothing happened (did not sync or charge) so i tried it in in a docking bay that charges but it did not charge but music came out of speakers so i reset it still nothing then i thought i try a different cable to mac (a old one a fire wire with usb as well) it worked with both connected so i restored it but it only works with both plugged in if i unplug the fire wire it still seen by my itunes by the usb and syncs but if i just plug the usb in nothing (on the same cable) until i plug the fire wire in and itunes opens

I don't have the internet at the moment (and won't do for a while) so upgrading isn't an option - and you don't get a disc with the iTUnes software with video ipods it seems, so I can't upgrade my software that way. I just want to use my new ipod as soon as possible and was expecting to just be able to plug it into my computer and download without any problems.

  • IPod touch (3rd gen) won't Charge with iHome after iOS5

I use an iHome (iH8 model) to charge my 3rd generation iPod touch, but after I updated to iOS5 I got the message "This accessory does not support charging" the first time I tried to change on the iHome, and every time after that it doesn't even seem to think it is connected to anything and will not charge.  It will charge fine on a USB cable connected to my computer.  Does anyone have any suggestions?

  • IPod touch 2nd gen. won't work with old accessories

I just had to buy a new 2nd generation iPod touch because the last one broke. I was mad to find out that my FM tuner and my ihome wasn't supported by the new iPod. Is there any way I won't have to buy all new accessories?

Did you previously have a 2nd generation Touch? On this new Touch, did you install the 3.0 update?
