5th generation ipod freeze up, 5th generation ipod freeze up

fifth generation ipod freeze up, & light staying on, with filly charge battery.

Are you able to perform a hard reset of it?  To do this, press and hold both the Select (Center) and Menu buttons together long enough for the Apple logo to appear.  Be sure to try this more than once.
Otherwise, if the iPod remains frozen, you may have to let the battery drain.  Then connect it to a power source and let it charge up.

  • Ipod nano 5th generation freezes when trying to play a song or video

Within the last couple of day my ipod nano 5th generation started freezing whenever i tryed to play a song. Oly way i could turn it off was by resetting it, however it did not fix the problem and still freezes whenever i try to play a song. I have even restored it to factory setting and it does the exact same thing. I don't understand why it does this, does anyone know why it freezes and won't stop? i don't have any warrenty on it and want to know if it is fixable, because it just randomly started freezing when trying to play music. If any one knows why it would be appriacted to know.

Does this happen with any song or video you play?  If so, then my best guess would be a hardware issue since a restore to factory settings did not resolve it.

  • TS1363 My ipod nano 5th generation is no longer recognized by itunes, and won't play any of it's music.  It still shows it all listed, but freezes up if you select a song to play.  Is there a way to restore it?

My ipod nano 5th generation will no longer play any of it's loaded songs.  It still plays the video that is on it, and the radio works.  It is not recognized by itunes and I have gone through all their help steps.  Is there some other way to restore it?

If the iPod is defective and not abused Apple will exchange it at no cost under your warranty.

  • I have an iPod Touch 5th generation and all of a sudden it started freezing on the lock screen.

I have an iPod Touch 5th generation that I've had since Christmas 2012 and suddenly today (June 27) when I tried opening one of my apps it froze and then shut the app down. At first I thought it was the app, but then it started happening to Safari and my Photos app. By time I had gotten to work when I slid the bar over to unlock it, it froze and wouldn't do anything. I had tried turning it off, holding the lock button down and sliding the power off slide, but the screen went black instead of turning off. Every few minutes it would suddenly light back up on the lock screen but wouldn't do anything after I slid the thing to unlock it. Sometimes it would seem to turn itself back on (even though I wasn't aware it had turned off, the apple logo never showed up) from black to the loading page (black screen with little circle thing lighting up to show it's loading) to the lock screen which wouldn't do anything. The time is constantly on track and the wifi connectivity icon on the top bar even shows when there's wifi, I just can't do anything with it. I could double tap the Home button and the music bar would show up and the volume level would change through me touching the screen and through the volume buttons on the side, but it wouldn't play anything. I also can hold the Home button and Siri shows up but then I can't actually speak anything to it.
I've managed to connect it to my computer and back it up to iCloud and on my computer and am trying to restore it right now, but I would like to know what's wrong with it. I've had it for about 7 months and have never had any issues with it like this before.

If you restored to factory settings/new iPod and still have the problem that indicates a hardware problem.

  • Itunes freezes when I connect 30g 5th generation ipod

    I hope someone can help.
I've got a 30g 5th generation ipod which Ive had no problems with until recently but now when I connect it to my laptop itunes opens as normal but then doesn't respond. itunes doesn't appear to recognise my ipod and it is completely frozen it won't even close down.
itunes works fine when my ipod isn't connected and my ipod is fine when it's not connected.
I've downloaded the latest version itunes that didn't help and I have uninstalled and reinstalled the ipod drivers that hasn't worked. I don't know what to try next.

Frozen screen on iPod. This happened for the first time since I have my iPod (3 years). I too was wondering if it had something to do with the latest release of iTunes 8.2 (23). The "Do not Disconnect" screen appeared on the iPod, and ITunes wouldn't even recognize it. After a lot of frustrating attempts, I did the Select-Menu reboot and got out of that screen and just unplugged the iPod. Thankfully all my playlists and library remained intact. Oddly enough, my little 1GB shuffle came up in the iTunes menu but all the music was gone. Both iPods were fully charged.

    For Mac computer
    1. Open the disk utility, hope your iPod appears there (left hand side), highlight it
    2. Go to Tab “Partition”, click either “Delete” or “Partition”, if fails, skip this step and go to 3
    3. Go to Tab “Erase” , choose Volume Format as “MAC OS Extended (Journaled), and click Erase, again if fails, skip it and go to 4
    4. Same as step 3, but open the “Security Options....” and choose “Zero Out Data” before click Erase. It will take 1 to 2 hours to complete.
    5. Eject your iPod and do a Reset
    6. Open the iTunes 7 and click “Restore”
    For Window computer
    Go to folder “My Computer”

  • Itunes freezes when i put my ipod 5th generation in

i need help what can i do to fix this i open I tunes first then i connect my ipod by the usb then itunes freezes and doesnt detect the ipod in the source list can someone please help

Ever since I installed Snow Leopard I have been having syncing issues with my 5th Gen 80GB iPod. It first gave me an error that it could not read or write to the iPod. The music and podcast were able to write to the iPod but when it got to syncing my photos is when it failed. I then just yesterday installed iTunes 9 hoping it would help, which it didn't. I tried to do a restore of my iPod with iTunes 9 and it was able to erase the iPod just fine and when I went to sync it again it gets stuck at about 5GB completed. I have a total of about 60GB's that I am trying to sync, but even if I just sync a few things it still will give an error "Can't synce 80GB iPod because it can't be read or written to (error -50)."
So I am not sure if this is a Snow Leopard issue or iTunes issue. I don't think it is my iPod because it was working fine now for over 2 years. Even the small amount of 5GB that it did transfer will play just fine from my iPod.

  • I have a 5th generation ipod classic, it wont connect to my computer without freezing itunes, and wondering if there is a way to manually update software

When i connect my ipod to the computer it freezes not only itunes but google chrome as well. I dont know that it is recognized as an ipod. I think it only recognizes it as a mass storage device and because of this i can not update the software to 1.3 and also have the ability to restore it. Im wondering if it is possible to do a manually software update without itunes or restore/reformat.

I'm not sure if my case is 100% related but it may help. I had this happen to me after I installed a new hard drive on my computer. The iPod would show up as an external disc drive but not on iTunes. What happened was, while reformating the diskdrive  the system resorted the hard drives to be the B and C drives. This then made the iPod the A drive and itunes didn't recognize it.  I went in and changed it to another letter (K or L or something) and iTunes picked it up and synched it automatically.
    Hope that's of some help.

  • IPod Classic 5th generation will not sync with new MacBook

I have had a 5th generation iPod classic that I have been super happy with.  I have used it with several PC laptops.  Because I have gone through so many PC's, I decdied this year to get a new MacBook Pro.  Since my old PC was dying it took forever to get all my music and videos transferred to my new MacBook. Anyhow, I have had no luck syncing my iPod with my new MacBook.  I have read several other posts (but mostly older like 2007-2010) that others have had similar problems.  Here is a quick list of what I have done/what has happened:
Initially, I would get one of two messages:
'The ipod '(My Name) ipod' cannot be synced. An unknown error occurred (-124)'
    - 'The ipod '(My Name) ipod' cannot be synced. The required folder cannot be found.'
Two times it told me I needed to use a USB 2.0 port (but I have a new MacBook and was using the newer 3.0 port).  I haven't seen that message since.
It actually "transferred" over 4500 of my 7000 items (I have a ton of music that I use for my job) and then just stopped. When it was disconnected only about 200 songs were actually on my iPod.
    I've restored it several times.
Seems to "freeze" on random songs or videos and will not continue to sync, even theough the iPod says it's syncing.  Then iTunes freezes.  I have to "force quit." Sometimes (but not all the time) if I try to re-open iTunes, I get a message that says iTunes is locked.
I thought maybe my cable was bad (it was the original that came with the iPod).  I actually spent $20 and got a new one.  No luck.
With the new cord iTunes now gets frozen on the 3rd or 4th song it is trying to transfer. Once I disconnect the iPod (I have to disconnect with ejecting because iTunes is frozen and it also freezes up Finder to eject) my iPod makes an awful click sound and I have to start it by toggling and then holding the play/pause button.
I have tried enabling disk, manually controlling music, etc. but nothing helps.
I am sick about it because I rely on my iPod a lot for my job-- and I can't afford a new one since I just bought a MacBook.  I think it has something to do with the fact that I got this new MacBook.  My old PC was getting so sensitive that I didn't download the latest version of iTunes (but I still had the second latest version).
    Any help is appreciated.

Although you used the new USB 3.0 port, the actual connection speed is still USB2.0, as the iPod Dock connector, does not have the 10 times faster USB3.0 signal pins, the connection speed is still 480Mbits/s
I assumed that you have tried the other USB 2.0 port to no success..
Can you do the iPod Disk diagnostic as posted earlier by tt2, it wont fix your problem, but helps in troubleshooting.
    Have a nice day!

  • On my ipod touch 5th generation i cannot connect to the internet i did every step in the help section. I reset the wifi, I turned the wifi off and on and still nothing. I even tried to put it in manually but still couldnt connect

The product i am using is a Ipod touch 5th Generation, version 8.1. On friday i had laid my ipod on my jacket which was laying on my mom truck and i went to play basketball. So when i got back it was off, at first i thought it died but the ipod was cold. It wasnt turning on i put it on the charger and it still wouldnt turn on. So i kept it on the charger all night and in the morning (saturday 10/25/14) it turned back on. So i went to the wifi to connect to my home wifi and it said no wifi is found. So i reset the network settings on my ipod and turned off the wifi box for 30 seconds then turned both back on and it still said theres no wifi. I followed every step but it still doesnt show any wifi. I tried to enter it manually but it keep saying "Could not find the network". But when i do it on my brothers phone it works. Can someone please help me get wifi back on my Ipod touch. I did all the steps but still nothing work.

    If not this:
iOS: Wi-Fi or Bluetooth settings grayed out or dim
One user reported that placing the iPod in the freezer fixed the problem.
    Also heating sometimes works. See:
Why can't I select my wifi settings?
A trick that works frequently with iPhones:
Settings > AirPlane Mode ON, Do Not Disturb ON
Power down and wait 5-10 minutes
    Power up
Settings > AirPlane Mode OFF, Do Not Disturb OFF
If not successful, an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is usually in order.
Apple Retail Store - Genius Bar
    Then:
Does the iOS device connect to other networks? See other networks? If yes that tends to indicate a problem with your network.
Does the iOS device see the network?
    Any error messages?
    Do other devices now connect?
Did the iOS device connect before?
Try the following to rule out a software problem:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Power off and then back on your router
.- Reset network settings: Settings>General>Reset>Reset Network Settings
    - iOS: Troubleshooting Wi-Fi networks and connections
    - Wi-Fi: Unable to connect to an 802.11n Wi-Fi network
    - iOS: Recommended settings for Wi-Fi routers and access points
    - Restore from backup. See:
    iOS: How to back up
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
If still problem and it does not connect to any networks make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since it appears you have a hardware problem.

  • 5th generation ipod touch rear camera no longer works; have tried everything; now what?

so my ipod touch 5th generation's rear camera hasnt been working for a month or two. the front camera works, but once I click on the button to switch to the rear, it freezes. i have tried resetting my settings, backing up and restoring my ipod, force closed and moved the camera app, etc. also, when i use facetime or snapchat, the rear camera option doesnt even show up. Online ive read that this is a hardware problem, so i was wondering what i could do or where i could take it to be fixed? and if i did take it in, how much would repair cost? thanks in advance.
also, there is no apple store around me within like two and a half hours. i bought this from best buy in 2013, could i take it there or can i send it in to apple?

If you restored to factory settings/new iPod via iTunes (Not via Settings>General>Reset>Erase all Content and Setting) and still have the problem that indicates a hardware problem.

  • 5th generation ipod not detected by my windows xp.  works fine on other pc.  performed necessary steps to remove and reinstall itunes but having same issue. is there a driver i can download to pc then direct to that specific location when installing?

5th generation ipod not detected by my windows xp.  works fine on other pc.  performed necessary steps to remove and reinstall itunes but having same issue. is there a driver i can download to pc then direct to that specific location when installing?

I have a similar issue - my iPod nano connects and is visible in Device Manager yet invisible in My Computer and iTunes. I've tried everything I can possibly think of to try and solve this myself, all in vain.
Mine is a nano 4G. I've been using it for quite some time without the slightest problem. I have been using WINAMP instead of iTunes to manage my darling nano.
Then, one fine day I bought a new computer and the nano would not show up in My Computer, though the nano display shows "Do not disconnect". On my old computer it worked (and still works) absolutely fine with win XP as well as with win7 (the later I currently use on my new/problematic computer, which I bought last summer and that's how long I've had this problem).
Of course, after several first attempts I gave up and installed iTunes. I've tried using the Apple support article "iPod not recognized in 'My Computer' and in iTunes for Windows":
    - reset
    - fully charged,
    - cable works fine on two other computers
    - in normal or disk mode makes no difference
    - tried to find anything useful in the diagnostics mode
    - reinstalled iTunes several different times since then to the latest version
    - I've unplugged every other USB device except for my mouse and keyboard and tried several different USB ports on my motherboard (USB 3.0 and conventional), as well as trying different USB- related options in my BIOS.
    - I've never used any Mac with this ipod
    - I've tried fiddling with the win7 Services by stopping and restarting them and of course
    - uninstalling the iPod drivers in Device Manager. After such an uninstall the ipod would automatically be recognised and "ready for use", i.e. being invisible in My Computer.
    - Attempted to find any possible third-party conflict with msconfig or the possibility that my ipod is being confused for a network drive (for which I've disconnected my HDD, leaving only my SSD with the OS).
Sometimes, iTunes would note that iPod service (or something, can't remember exactly) failed to install properly and asked to try and repair it. I would click YES! and voila - no change! The ipod would rarely show up in iTunes on my problematic computer like this:
iTunes would warn me that the nano would need restoring so I would try and do it on my haunted machine upon which iTunes would freeze like you seen in the picture.
Despite this, I've updated and restored the nano on my father's computer to the latest version without any problems. This though, did not solve my problem in any way.
I can load music to my nano through my old computer (which for me is a real pain and hassle) and the gadget works normally in terms of its disconnected functionality.
I've taken my nano to the local service for repair and they said it was fine. Mercifully, they didn't charge for the diagnostics service (gee, thanks for not ripping me off!).
Here are two screengrabs from my Device Manager
and Devices and Printers screens on my comp:
That is my sad story as far as I can remember. It's most likely something with the drivers or something along those lines though I'm out of ideas at this point.
If you think you have any idea PLEASR HELP, I'M DESPERATE!

  • IPod touch 5th generation not working right since 8.3 software update.

I am having problems with my iPod 5th generation. Ever since I downloaded the new 8.3 software update when i plug it into my usb in my car my radio is reading my iPod and indexing my car radio will start playing for 23 seconds than it freezes my radio and stays at indexing and when I look at my iPod it's still playing even though the car radio is frozen at the first song it started on. I have no problems with my 4th generation one I plug it into my car and it works fine through my radio it reads that iPod and indexes it and starts playing and stays playing.

There's a couple of things you will want to look at:
    1. Make sure you have the latest version of Remote
    2. Check your firewall settings on your Mac (in System Preferences > Security) and set it to accept all connections.
    3. Remote uses two ports through your router firewall that you may have to enable. See this article for details: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1741

  • Hold button is sticking and wheel buttons are going on iPod nano 5th generation

I have four iPods. One 30gb classic that doesn't work at all. Another inoperable one is a 2 gb (dropped in water) nano that they don't make anymore. Another is an 8 gb touch, and the last is a 16gb nano 5th generation. My main concern is the 16gb nano. The hold switch is sticking sometimes, and the previous and menu buttons are not working. The previous button went first, now the menu button has been going out. I have to press it 6 or 7 times sometimes more. I saw the support document stating that it was being pressed during calibration after switching it off of hold, but I don't think that is it. I am going to try the r's after their advice doesn't work. I am waiting for the next button to start doing it and then the play/pause. There is no problem with the wheel as far as volume or selection. I have taken excellent care of this device, and I am hoping they recall like they did with the first gen nano. I am crossing my fingers! There is barely a scratch on it.
BTW, the 5th gen classic I have was doing really weird stuff. It would play after being completely charged. But, if you changed albums or songs at all, it would go to the reset screen with the apple logo and freeze up. I think I am going to get a new battery, I hope it works. I have almost 100gb of music, 16 doesn't quite cut it anyway.  It also won't recognize this device in iTunes. So, the troubleshooter is no help.

    1. Go to the iTunes Store.  In the bar that goes across the window, click on iTunes U.  These are lectures and other material contributed by many educational institutions.  They are free.
    2. I don't know.  But once it is on your iTunes library, you can change the Media Kind by doing a Get Info on the item in iTunes.  On the Options tab of the Info window, set the Media Kind to Audiobook.
    3. I don't know.  You'll probably know tomorrow...
    4. No.  I can't think of a way to do that, not as a voice memo recording.  If you can convert the voice memo recording from the iPhone into an MP3 or AAC file, you can add it to your iTunes library as a song.  You could then sync it to the iPod, like you would with any song file.

  • My iPod touch 5th generation isn't working. I plugged it in last night to charge and now its not turning on or responding to anything.

My iPod touch 5th generation isn't working. I plugged it in last night to charge and now its not turning on or responding to anything.  It used to do this thing where it would freeze when it was 100% charged and plugged in and I was using it.  I'd just unplug it, restart it (home button and top button) and then it would be fine.  That had happened like 5 hours prior to me plugging it in again and then it going totally blank.

    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode
How to put iPod touch / iPhone into DFU mode « Karthik's scribblings
    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try another cable
    - Try on another computer
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.
