5th generation ipod games no longer supported???

I have a 60 GB 5th generation iPod video. I had a hard drive crash and lost all of the games that I had downloaded from the itunes store. Now, iTunes has restored all of my purchased items, but my 5th generation games don't seem to have appeared during the download. And, when I go to the app store, I can't even seem to find the games available for download anymore. Does iTunes no longer support games for the 5th generation iPod????

Hover the mouse over Apps, click the triangle which appears, and choose iPod Click Wheel games.

I have a similar issue - my iPod nano connects and is visible in Device Manager yet invisible in My Computer and iTunes. I've tried everything I can possibly think of to try and solve this myself, all in vain.
Mine is a nano 4G. I've been using it for quite some time without the slightest problem. I have been using WINAMP instead of iTunes to manage my darling nano.
Then, one fine day I bought a new computer and the nano would not show up in My Computer, though the nano display shows "Do not disconnect". On my old computer it worked (and still works) absolutely fine with win XP as well as with win7 (the later I currently use on my new/problematic computer, which I bought last summer and that's how long I've had this problem).
Of course, after several first attempts I gave up and installed iTunes. I've tried using the Apple support article "iPod not recognized in 'My Computer' and in iTunes for Windows":
    - reset
    - fully charged,
    - cable works fine on two other computers
    - in normal or disk mode makes no difference
    - tried to find anything useful in the diagnostics mode
    - reinstalled iTunes several different times since then to the latest version
    - I've unplugged every other USB device except for my mouse and keyboard and tried several different USB ports on my motherboard (USB 3.0 and conventional), as well as trying different USB- related options in my BIOS.
    - I've never used any Mac with this ipod
    - I've tried fiddling with the win7 Services by stopping and restarting them and of course
    - uninstalling the iPod drivers in Device Manager. After such an uninstall the ipod would automatically be recognised and "ready for use", i.e. being invisible in My Computer.
    - Attempted to find any possible third-party conflict with msconfig or the possibility that my ipod is being confused for a network drive (for which I've disconnected my HDD, leaving only my SSD with the OS).
Sometimes, iTunes would note that iPod service (or something, can't remember exactly) failed to install properly and asked to try and repair it. I would click YES! and voila - no change! The ipod would rarely show up in iTunes on my problematic computer like this:
iTunes would warn me that the nano would need restoring so I would try and do it on my haunted machine upon which iTunes would freeze like you seen in the picture.
Despite this, I've updated and restored the nano on my father's computer to the latest version without any problems. This though, did not solve my problem in any way.
I can load music to my nano through my old computer (which for me is a real pain and hassle) and the gadget works normally in terms of its disconnected functionality.
I've taken my nano to the local service for repair and they said it was fine. Mercifully, they didn't charge for the diagnostics service (gee, thanks for not ripping me off!).
Here are two screengrabs from my Device Manager
and Devices and Printers screens on my comp:
That is my sad story as far as I can remember. It's most likely something with the drivers or something along those lines though I'm out of ideas at this point.

  • New 5th generation Ipod

I just bought a 30gb Ipod tuesday from BestBuy. How can I verify that it is the latest (5th generation Ipod) version capable of playing movies, games, has the better screen and battery life, etc.--all the stuff that was just announced?
I didn't know about the announcement until after I got home, (of course) and I've checked the last three of the serial number vs. an article on support and it doesn't match--but I'm not sure that's enough to know for sure. (The last three are Sz9)...
Oh, and BestBuy charged me $299--just before the prices dropped to $249 on the Apple site and their own site--just beware in case you shop there in the next few days. I plan to at least get a refund of the difference.

There is a brightness feature on the older 5g if you updated your firmware to 1.2, but otherwise NO. If the one you have has version 1.12 then that too would be an indicator that you have an older unit, since the newer ones would have 1.2.
I seriously doubt you got a new one. Did you get the new lower price? If not then I know you didn't get the newer model. I'd return it and order directly from Apple.
To the user that said BB won't take it back if you opened and use it? What kind of nonesense is that, you have 30 days to return an iPod under their current return policy.

My 5th generation iPod (bought in April of 2013) will quit unexpectedly. I can't do app store apps (like snapchat or facebook, ect.) or apple apps (like Camera, Safari, ect.)It will take for ever to load what I write while texting. It also just goes to the black screen with the Apple logo. I'm not sure what to do.

    Try This...
Close All Open Apps... Sign Out of your Account... Perform a Reset... Try again...
Reset  ( No Data will be Lost )
Press and Hold the Sleep/Wake Button and the Home Button at the Same Time...
Wait for the Apple logo to Appear...
Usually takes about 15 - 20 Seconds... ( But can take Longer...)
    Release the Buttons...
    If no joy...
    Reset all settings
Settings > General > Reset > Reset all Settings.
This will return all iDevice settings to factory defaults... you will not lose any data.... But you will have to re-enter all of the device settings.

I recall hearing that the Apple Retail stores take iPod's for trade up to a new one. But I think you only get 10% off the new one - if I remember right.
Small Dog electronics also takes trades. Right now their web page says they are giving $40 for a 2GB Nano and $65 for a 4GB Nano. Everything must be working and the battery must last at least two hours. Here is the website with the details: http://www.smalldog.com/wag13041/
This place http://www.thedropspot.com/ipod/select.aspx apparently buys used iPods.
I'm not endorsing any of these, I just did a Google search for "iPod Trade in" and found them.

I'm having similar problems... I didn't update to 1.2 (at least it says that my iPod is still 1.1, but when I try to sync up using iTunes 7 I get a constant "Updating" with no actual display of what is updating. This goes on for hours. When I try to eject, I receive the following:
"The iPod “iPod” cannot be ejected because it contains files that are in use by another application."
I yank the USB cable and reset the iPod to access the player, but it does not reflect any updated/syncd songs since before I updated to 7.0...
Arrgghhh... I may have to remove and reload the 06-28-06 version of iTunes, but I don't want to lose my playlists... Anyone have any suggestions as to how to backup without losing the Playlists?

  • 5th generation iPod nano compatibility with Linux?

I have Linux on my computer is the 5th generation iPod nano compatible with my operating system? Would i need to install a particular program to make it work.

    trailman00 wrote:
Why not let the customer choose to use iTunes or not ?
Be able to add individual files just by copying them from any computer (any OS, with or without iTunes installed), and use a filesystem browser on the iPod to select which file to play in which directory.
Only Apple would know the answer to this. However, based on the history of the iPod, it seems unlikely that you're going to see this happen. One of the major differentiating features of the iPod is that one doesn't have to mess with a file system browser, it's all handled automatically by iTunes. Now, that's not to say that everyone is going to like players that work this way. Hence, the continuing market for other brands of players.
Please, release a new iPod firmware supporting this feature.
Again, seems very unlikely as it runs counter to the entire Apple design philosophy. However, if you want to make your feelings known to Apple (as opposed to just the fellow users who are going to be seeing this post), submit your feedback here:

  • 5th generation iPod nano is not being recognized

I have 5th generation iPod. My computer (desktop) suddenly decided not to recognize my iPod as of yesterday. To experiment, I connected my iPod to my
brother's computer (laptop) and it worked fine. Suspicious that it was my computer that went haywire, I connected my dad's iPhone to my computer and it
    recognized it.
I got uninstalled my iTunes and all other programs and installed them again. Didn't work. Put my iPod into disk mode. Didn't work. Checked my computer for
any virus. Didn't work. Even changed my USB cable. Didn't work.
So what is the problem here? Is it my iPod or my computer?

Not much else to try then is there other than blowing the whole system away and starting from scratch?

  • Looking for a headphones solution for 5th generation iPod

So my headphone jack no longer works (technical problem). As a result I need headphones that plug in via the dock connector instead.
A little over a year ago I bought (what I think was) a remote/headphones combo device that solved my problem. The remote plugged into the iPod, and then the headphones plugged into the remote. Problem solved.
I have now lost this device, and whenever I ask the Apple Store for something similar they have no idea what I'm talking about.
Any help in either identifying the device I had before or coming up with a new solution would be greatly, greatly appreciated. I'm ready to pull out my hair at the moment. I refuse to replace a $300 dollar piece of equipment just because I'm having trouble finding something that used to be on the market.

SpringFaery, you didn't say what specifically is wrong with the headphone jack, so I don't know if this will help you or not. I have a 5th generation iPod 30GB that just started having problems with the headphone jack. One of the earbuds was losing sound intermittently. I checked the headphones on other devices and they're fine. The same problem happens when I try other headphones on the iPod, so I assume the problem is the headphone jack.
I found another thread about sound problems with 5th generation iPods in this forum that said that pressing on one corner of the iPod fixes that problem, so I tried doing that on my iPod and it works fine now. I used a 2-inch binder clip and put it on the right side of the iPod, in the upper corner under the headphone jack. I have a leather cover on the iPod, so the binder clip is over that. The sound is back to normal now so I'm happy with this "usermod" fix. If your problem is similar maybe this can help.

  • Does anyone know a converter from the new iTunes TV/movie file type to one that will work on my 5th generation iPod video?

I just tried to load some new TV shows from my iTunes onto my 5th generation iPod video and it says the video format is not supported. I currently have dozens of TV shows and movies on the iPod, I just wanted to put some new stuff on there. So I need to know if there is anyway of converting the new iTunes video format into one that will run on my 5th generation iPod.
    Thnaks in advanced.

When you drag a movie from the Media Browser to the Time lIne in GarageBand, you will see a pop-up "Extracting Audio".
The Movie and the audio file will appear in separate tracks. You can copy the audio region from the sound track to a different track to keep it safe and then hide the Movie track.

  • Creative ZEN Vision:M or 5th Generation iPOD Video ?

So which one would you pick? The ZEN or the iPOD. Yes, I know most people would say the ipod since this is an apple board but this ZEN Vision:M business is pretty awesome.
If you had the option to return your ipod and get the ZEN Vision, would you ? I mean, come on, look at this thing. Its a beast !
I also wanted to ask if anyone owns this thing ? i wanna ask a few questions about. i.e. battery life (since the ipod totally wreaks in that subject), compatability, other things..

5th Generation iPOD 30 GB   Windows XP

Re: 4 hours playback... See my explanation about how Creative arrived at their playback times vs. how Apple arrived at theirs. If you want to listen to 64kbps WMA files, and watch 500kbps MPEG4 video, go right ahead. You could get the same result on your iPod listening to 64kbps AAC files and watching 500kbps MPEG4 video.
Re: double the songs... again, see my explanation about how Creative arrived at their 15,000 number vs. how Apple arrived at their 7,500 number (hint: 64kbps WMA files vs. 128kbps AAC files)
Re: more audio formats... yes. the Vision:M adds the ability to play WMA files (the iPod can play MP3 and WAV files)
Re: more video formats... yes. The Vision:M adds the ability to play MPEG1/2, WMV9, Motion-JPEG, and XviD.
Re: FM radio, recorder, voice recorder, yes. Points to Vision:M.
Re: iPod's batter turning red with 2 hours left to go... the battery meter is an estimate, nothing more. If it really bothers you and you can't ignore it, put a piece of black electrical tape over it. My battery meter is fairly accurate, but I've ran my iPod completely dead and charged it up completely 2x since I've bought it. Seems to have helped.
Re: scratching issue.. seems like there were a few people on those engadget posts that were complaining about their Zen (non-vision:M) scratching up pretty bad. My guess is the Vision:M will have the same problems (but that's a guess).
So, summary... If you need a FM radio/recorder, or a voice recorder, or don't want to transcode video you already have in a supported Vision:M format, or have your audio in WMA format, and are willing to deal with the extra width and cost, then the Vision:M might be for you. Be aware that Creative's battery life numbers are even more unapplicable to real-world use than Apple's are (I don't know of anyone that listens to 64kbps music anymore, and who would encode their video at 500kbps MPEG4?).

  • I think the dock on my 5th generation ipod nano is broken. Is there a way that i could fix this?

Every time I try to connect my 5th generation ipod Nano to my computer I get a message that says that the device is unrecognizable. I have tried uninstalling and then reinstalling itunes and I have tried most everything else the Apple Support says to do. I checked my devices on my computer when I had the ipod connected and it said that there was some type of problem with the USB dock on my ipod. other than this I have not had any other problems with this ipod. Is there any way I can fix this without having to get anew ipod?
