5th generation ipod has 'locked' up!

I don't get it. My ipod, a 5th generation ipod, has a dimly lit screen, it displays "Do Not Disconnect". I have been through the 5 R's on Apples site, to no avail. I cannot get the pod to shut off, or respond in any way. Also, iTunes doesn't even see it. Any help, greatly appreciated.

Personally, I would disconnect and reset while connected to a power outlet (of course you need a wall charger for that). Then if the iPod is seen when you reconnect to the computer reformat it again. If all else fails go to the Apple Store or call Applecare.

  • 5th generation iPod has no sound in earphones

I've replaced the ear jack in my 5th generation but still have no sound. At one brief moment I got sound as I put the ipod back together but then it left again.

  • The sound on my 5th Generation Ipod has stopped working

So my ipod has the newest software and has been rebooted and all the other "re"s you can think of and yet the sound does not play.  The video works fine, and the music says it is playing but no sound will come into my headphones, stereo, or any other way I have tried to connect it to get sound to come out.  ANy way to fix without buying a new iPod?

I have the same problem and my nieces ipod fifth gen also lost sound capabilities - Apple should admit to this problem and repair them for free!!!!

  • 5th generation iPod touch lock screen suddenly does not function/ or respond to touch?

Recently, I was using my iPod touch to take a picture of the beach, while I was at the beach. It functioned perfectly well, but afterwards the lock screen did not respond to touch. It is 100% battery at the moment. Though my hands were just a tiny bit wet at the time, I do not believe the issue is hardware related. I also do not believe this is related to the fact that my hands were wet while using the device. This is because when I swipe down to open my notification on the lock screen, it responds to my touch.  Although I cannot access any of the apps on notification center, and it will not respond when I click on notifications, the software does allow me to open notification center.
I cannot slide to unlock my iPod touch, all of a sudden. Also, I cannot open the camera app via the lock screen either. When a friend texted me (through iMessage), a notification showed up on the lock screen. The only action the lock screen allows me to do is access the notification center.
Also, when connected to my Mac and wall charger, it will charge. I am currently operating on iOS 7.1.1, so I have been due for a software update.
Would updating through my iMac solve this problem? Also I plan on backing up all the data onto my computer (esp. photos). How should I solve this problem? If I were to upgrade to iOS 7.1.2 would it be helpful? I believe this is merely a software issue, not a hardware issue with the touch screen. I have had this iPod touch since February 2013 and it has a 32 GB capacity.
    Thanks to everyone who answers
p.s. Has a similar issue like this ever occurred to anyone?

    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode

    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try another cable
    - Try on another computer
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

Is the camera damaged? Could be a hardware problem.
    Try:
Close the Camera app in the multitasking bar, then try again.

  • 5th generation Ipod Touch won't charge past 20%?

I bought my 32 gb 5th generation Ipod Touch not more than 2 weeks ago at my local Walmart. Everything was working perfectly until today. All day, my ipod would charge until 20%.. run on this charge for approximately 10 minutes, and then die again. It does not continue charging after the 20% mark and I'm not quite sure how to verify that it does. I've tried using the charger with different usb ports/computers but still no luck. My ipod has been going through some pretty cold conditions temperature-wise the last few days.. does that have any affecton the battery maybe? Ahh, at this point I'm just frustrated.. hopefully someone knows how to fix this!

    - See:

    - Try another cable
    - Try another charging source
    - Look at the dock connector on the iPod. Look for abnormalities like bent or corroded contacts, cracked or broken plastic.

  • Problems downloading songs from Match to a 5th Generation iPod

I have about 16,000 songs in my library in iTunes on a Windows 7 laptop, and have successfully turned on and synced with Match, with a paid subscription. Now I want to download songs from my library to a 5th Generation iPod. Whwn I connect the iPod to my PC, iTunes sees that iPod, allowed me to Restore it, then I clicked the device (iPod) checked Sync Music, Selected Playlists, artists, albums and genres. I browsed the artists that it showed to select a portion on my library (since 16,000 songs won't fit on a 30 gig iPod) and iTunes showed only 136 out of 16,000 songs. I have a Playlist titled All, that has the whole library in it, tried selecting that, but got the same result. Why isn't iTunes seeing my whole library?
    Thanks!

Is this an iPod Touch and have you enabled iTunes Match on the device? If not, which seems to be the case from your description, this isn't really an iTunes Match problem. You might get better help by posting in one of the specific iPod forums, or perhaps the iTunes for Windows forum.

  • 5th generation IPOD not recognized by computer

Hey Internet users, my dad's been having some troubles and I was hoping to try and help him by reposting something he did elsewhere...
"Hello Everyone and thank you for reading my post.
I have a weird problem, my 30 gig 5th generation Ipod is not recognized by my computer or itunes. This is the last thing it happen, I was working on a client house for days, so my ipod's battery was completely dead, I was kind of desperate, so I thought that I could plug it to my client's mac just to recharge, but nothing happened. So days later I got back home and my windows PC will not recognized or charge the ipod at all. I got it charge and works perfect with my Ihome radio. I tried rebooting the Ipod, I tried resetting it to be in disk mode with not a problem, I tried changing the USB port, I did connected my friends Ipod and connected right away, so the wire connector is OK, I tried a different wire connector just in case, I tried connecting the ipod to a different PC.... I kind of running of ideas here. The ipod works great but I would live to download some new tunes to it... Any ideas. I cannot restore or upgrade firmware because ipod is not recognized by the computer....
The thing I am trying right now is installing the latest Itunes and see what happens. I have windows Pro SP3 recently updated. Your help would be greatly appreciated."
So...if anyone has any ideas, please post!!

I am having the same problem. Sorry I'm not going to be of any help. But I hope someone gives you some recommendations cause I really want to get mine fixed. My iPod did the exact same thing. It was dead and I tried to use my car charger for the first tim and it did nothing. Then I plugged it in to a friends computer and nothing. I can only charge it on a speaker dock. And no computer recognizes that it's connection when I use the USB cable.

  • 5th Generation iPod Battery Issues

    Hello all.
I'm hoping someone can help me with an issue I recently started having. Both my wife and I have 5th generation iPods that we bought 13 months ago. We have been using them on my computer on a regular basis since then.
About 3 weeks ago I started receiving the "low battery warning." I charged it successfully from my PC and from a car adaptor and after rebooting the iPod the battery would be close to empty. My wife's iPod had similar issues within a week of my issue.
I took my iPod into my local Apple store and they charged me ~$60 for a battery replacement and replaced my wife's since it was within warranty. I sync'ed my new iPod at home on the computer and had the same problems within 2 days. I then tried my wife's iPod and her's was dead before she even got to use it.
I just replaced both iPods at Apple yesterday and I'm afraid to plug them into my computer now, but an iPod isn't much fun unless it has music! Any ideas? What can I check? (Keep in mind that we've been using this same computer for quite sometime now.)
    Thanks,
    Michael

    Hi,
It might be that there is a driver problem on your PC so the iPod is not drawing enough current to charge fully. Some devices like the blackberry and other mp3 players actually say they are charging when in fact they are discharging! Perhaps you could try another PC with iTunes installed and see if you have the same problem - would at the very least rule out your PC.
    I found this on Wiki - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/USB
The USB specification provides a 5 V (volts) supply on a single wire from which connected USB devices may draw power. The specification provides for no more than 5.25 V and no less than 4.75 V (5 V±5%) between the positive and negative bus power lines.[11] Initially, a device is only allowed to draw 100 mA. It may request more current from the upstream device in units of 2 mA up to a maximum of 500 mA.
I've got a blackberry and the charger is rated 5v 500mA. It has a usb connector for the power lead so I just unplug the standard usb cable for my bberry and plug in the iPod cable. This is exactly the same as the £19 AC chargers you can buy in the shops
    Hope this helps.
