5th Generation Nano stopped working..

My iPod, 5th Gen Nano will only work when either plugged into the wall or the computer, but as soon as it is unplugged, it won't work as if it is dead. Plus I have attempted to restore the product, several times, but nothing comes in return.
Help!!!!!!!!!!!!!

There is a good chance your iPod's battery is shot and is in need of replacement. You can choose to have Apple replace it (for quite the price), have a third party repair company do it for much less, or you can actually replace it yourself if you feel up to it.
There really isn't much else you can do in terms of troubleshooting this one.

Hi, I also have a 5th generation iPod nano. It is very old (or at least for technology), so the issue is most likely the battery. My advise would be to buy a newer generation iPod because it would most likely take more time/money to fix the problem than the iPod is worth. Check out the refurbished section of the Apple website, the prices are typically sufficiently lower than the price of a brand new iPod, but just as good. Thats how I get all my Apple products.

5th Generation iPod stopped working

My 5th Generation iPod will not start, it doesn't show on the desktop or in iTunes. I've tried the Menu/Select switch reset and toggling the Hold switch on and off, with and without the USB cable connected without any success. The screen is dark, I can see the Apple logo but very dim, it makes a clicking sound for awhile then stops.

Hey Arthur -
It sounds like your hard drive died. Did you boot it into diagnostics? Look through the support site. Ther is a key combination to force-restart your iPod and check the hard drive.
If it's still under warranty, send it back. There's instructions on how to do that under:

The music appears to be in my library, so I should be safe, right? However even if that works and I can disconnect my ipod, why isn't it syncing? I have a 2nd one to sync as well. I am frustrated. Thanks you for replying planb77! My husband got home and told me to just disconnect the ipod. It had been at least 12 hours by then, The music was in my library but not on my ipod, He had me shut down, unplug my computer, take a rest from it and restart. I reset my ipod following instructions on the itunes site. I tried syncing again and was successful syncing both ipods. I really think it was great of you to take the time to help someone else.

The one night I leave it in my pocket with the head phones plugged in and the power off. it stopped working. I thought it lost it's charge so I put it back on the charger. For reasons that I can not explain, on trying to turn it on this morning it started to work. said conect to power, so its charging now. hopefuly this is a good sign that it can be fixed by resetting on the computer.

PDF thumbnail generation has stopped working

formerly I was using Adobe Reader X at an actual Patch Level on a 64 Bit Windows 7 system. At that time PDF thumbnails were no subject for me. Now I've upgraded to Adobe Acrobat X Pro and uninstalled Adobe Reader X. Then I wanted to use the thumbnails. That was no problem as I found a link to a tool which fixed my issue: http://forums.adobe.com/thread/305220
Everything worked fine for me, until I noticed that one of my applications needed an installed Adobe Reader to work properly. So I reinstalled the Adobe Reader on my system again. This caused to stop the thumbnail generation: PDF files which existed prior to the Adobe Reader installation still have a thumbmail icon preview, but those who were generated after the installation still appear as a PDF icon.
Before installation the fix from thread 305220 my workaround was to open Acrobat X, the navigate to the open dialog, moving to the folder with the PDFs within and wait that Acrobat finished the thumbnail generation. But this workaround now is out of service, too. So my assumption is, that reinstalling Adobe Reader screwed up something in my Adobe installation which I cannot find at the moment which has nothing to do with the initial problem with displaying thumbnails.
Performing some repair installation didn't help:
   (1) repair Adobe Reader, then repair Adobe Acrobat --> no change
   (2) repair Adobe Acrobat, then repair Adobe Reader --> no change
   (3) repair Adobe Reader only --> no change
   (4) repair Adobe Acrobat only --> no change
   (1), then apply fix from thread 305220 --> no change

Did you at least download & read the user manual?
You can always call Apple Care if you are still under warranty. Otherwise, take your iPod to an Apple Store or an AASP.

The head phone jack on my brand new iPod touch 5th generation is not working properly

The head phone jack on my brand new iPod touch 5th generation is not working properly. It has sound without the headphones in but when I plug them in it has no sound, it's low, or poppy. I had only used my apple supplied headphones once before and it worked fine. I know it's not the headphones because I tried them on my girlfriends phone and they worked fine.

- Try cleaning out/blowing out the headphone jack. Try inserting/removing the plug a dozen times or so. There is a little switch in the headphone jack that disconnects the speaker when the headphone jack is inserted.
Try the following to rule out a software problem
- Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iPod touch: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
- Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
- Restore from backup
- Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
- Make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store. Seems you have a bad headphone jack.

Change the rice and dry for another couple of days. Then:
Try:
- iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
- Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode

- If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
- Try on another computer
- If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

Try and calibrate Home Button
1. Open a stock application like Calendar, Weather or Youtube
2. Hold down the power button until the "slide to power off" control appears
3. As soon as you see it, press the Home button and keep it pressed until the red slider disappears and the app is forced quit to the Home menu
