Unless they were glued at the factory and Apple never actually "serviced" them, they just returned a new model. Or the factory in China would break them open, refurbish them, and reglue them and send them to Apple as a refurb.

Does anyone know where I can get a copy of the iPod Hifi Service Manual?
Or does anyone have access to one?
I just need to find out how to open it up. This thing is totally impenetratable.
    Apple are laughing at me
I peeled back half of the rubber pad on the base and there are no screws under there.

  • When will my ipod be serviced

When will my ipod be serviced could some help when does apple let you know when it is going to came out to your home to pick up your product

How long will my iPod service take?
Service arranged through Apple normally takes approximately one week. If your iPod is personalized, you can expect service to be completed within approximately ten calendar days from the time you send your iPod to Apple.
Apple will send you email(s) when the evaluation of your iPod is complete/when it is shipped.

  • IPod Touch 5th Generation Location Services arrow stays on

My iPod Touch 5th Gen on ios 6.1.3 wont turn the gps location services arrow off. i always leaves location services on, but last week i noticed it was still on after i went to the notification center to post to facebook. when i turn the service off it goes away, but i likle to leave it on. I also, dont want to have to do any type of restore if possible. I have an imessage, facetime, and bluetooth debugging option in system that i installed, but that was a month before this started happening.

    Try:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup. See:
    iOS: How to back up
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
If still problem, make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since it appears you have a hardware problem.

  • IPod Shuffle Service Request Error???!!!

Hey all, I'm sending my iPod Shuffle back to apple because it's no longer recognized by iTunes of my PC and it no longer charges either. So I entered all my info on the onlince service request page, credit card, shipping address, etc. Then after I hit the last step, I got 2 "SQL Server" errors or something that popped up, but the page with my case number and dispatch number, etc. still loaded. So what I'm asking is, did Apple really get all my info, because if this SQL server error message popped up didn't send all my data, I'll be charged $169 (I CANNOT AFFORD THIS!) right? So I guess I wait and see if I get an email from Apple, but any help would be appreciated, $169 is far too much for me at the moment

  • IPod Nano Service

I have an iPod Nano, 2GB, less than 2 months old. The problem is that if I plug in lanyard headphones, or earbuds, start a song, then touch the case below the scroll wheel, the song stops. I can restart the song playing and touch the case near the bottom of the iPod and the song stops again. Even moving the iPod can cause the song to stop. If the lanyard or earbuds are removed and the song is started, touching the case has no effect. I sent the iPod in for service, Apple kept is less than a day and sent it back. The closest "required" item on their symptom dropdown menu was scroll wheel issues. I included a detailed account of the problem I was having, but it is apparent that the unit was unpacked, the scroll wheel found to be working, and it was shipped back, still malfunctioning. I have called Apple and was directed to make an appointment with a retail store to actually have a person look at the unit. It is immediately clear that this is a defective unit, as any song can be stopped just by touching the case if lanyard headphones or earbuds are connected. All the recommended troubleshooting measures have been performed to no avail. Any recommendations on how to get this iPod serviced? I'm very disappointed in Apples lack of support. I don't expect any better with extended care or Procare and it has made me think twice about purchasing a new laptop from them. We have two other iPod Nanos in the family and they work well! Any help will be welcome.

    Hi Rob,
    Welcome to Apple Discussions
You might want to look at iPod - Service FAQ. You can also bring it to your local Apple Store.

  • Using iPod location services to find my way round new places

I  like to use location services with map apps (such as OffMaps and MapsWithMe) to help me find my way around new places.
I understand that the information  ipod uses for location services,  the positions of various wifi transmitters,  is stored in an Apple database and that the location result is likely to be very approximate.  My problem is that I  cant figure out how and when the relevant data arrives in my ipod.  Typically it seems that when in a new town,  during my first wander round the place, the ipod does not know where it is -  locations will not be shown on these map apps.  On subsequent travels through the town iPod does seem to know where it is and displays its location on the maps quite nicely.  (But by then of course I  too know my way around and so don't need theiPod;s assistance so much to help figure out where I am.)
    So my questions are
    1) At what point does the ipod get to store the crucial location information?  I'm wondering for instance whether the ipod remembers the SSIDs  as it encounters them, but only learns about their locations when it  is next connected to the  internet?
    2) I'd like to know how much of this information the iPod can remember and for how long is it remembered.  (If I go back to a place visited last year will any of the previously "learnt"  locations be remembered by the iPod. I may well have forgotten my way round the place by then and the iPod's help would be useful)
    3) Is it possible to "teach"  the ipod about  known wifi locations in a particular geographical area before visiting the area.  That would be a tremendous boon to me.

Good questions. However, I have never seen or heard about any information from Apple about how the iPod (and wifi-only iPad) really determine location.  I am waiting for answers from other users.

  • IPods and Service Pack 3 for Windows XP

If you have installed Service Pack 3 for Windows XP, an issue may arrise that will not allow iPods to function. You will get an error that the iPod Service Module has experienced an error and needs to close.
If you see this error, first check to see if you can see any of your devices in the Device Manager. To do this, click on Start, the right click on My Computer, then click on the Hardware tab, then click on the Device Manager button. If this window is blank, you will need to call Microsoft directly at 800-642-7676.
The reason that the Device Manager is now blank is that if you were running any Anti-Virus program while Service Pack 3 was being installed, there was a certain file that was prevented from running that was designed to clean up the registry after installation. Since this file did not execute, that is why your Device Manager is now blank and your iPod will not work.
A word of caution though. When you call Microsoft, do not tell them that the reason you are calling is that your iPod does not work due to Service Pack 3. If you say this, they will want to charge you $80.00 for tech support. On the other hand, if you say that you recently installed Service Pack 3 and have noticed that the Device Manager is now empty, you will now get the tech support for free.
I write this for any who might be experiencing this problem as Apple Tech Support has informed me that this is one of their biggest tech support issues in the past couple of months since Service Pack 3 was released.

Still useful as of 12/30/11. Have ten Lenovo 5042 computers with downgrade licenses to run XP and have a ghosted image from another Lenovo 5042 having and Intel cpu. My target computers all have AMD cpus in them and the image would continuously reboot on

Used method 1 and it cleared the problem instantly, many thanks for the post and the time and effort it took to dig up the answer..

  • Enhanced chapter titles on iPod seek screen - We do it - but not sure how

OK, so I am one of a three person team that produces an enhanced podcast. We use the Chapter Tool command line utility on XML that we edit by hand (each chapter has a title, image, and link), then we upload the file to our host (libsyn), and use Pivot front end to create a feed for use in feedburner.
So, we've noticed that after we download an enhanced episode through the iTunes store and load it on to our ipod, when you press the center button on the iPod to go to the "seek" screen (where you can use the wheel to fast forward through the the file), the chapter title is displayed just above the file location marker.
You can see an example of this on this page we made showing our listeners what to expeect in an enhanced podcast:
    http://www.tranceportal.org/music/enhancedpodcast.htm
This is a great feature! And we love it. However, we're not exactly sure what makes it possible. When we load our enhanced podcast onto an iPod before it's uploaded and published on our servers, we don't see this feature at all. It only appears after the file has been downloaded through iTunes.
Does anybody know where this feature comes from? Is it part of iTunes download process? Feedburner? Pivot? Libsyn? We haven't looked deep into all these parts our podcast files are passing through yet, but thought it was worth a shot to ask here before we wasted our time doing that.
    Much thanks in advance.
    Powerbook   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

There's nothing special about listing on iTunes, because you never actually upload anything about your podcast to iTunes. Maybe the iPod has to have subscribed to the file as a podcast episode for it to have the Chapter titles appear. If it's just added as an m4a file, perhaps the iPod won't see that extra bit of metadata. That's one possibility--you could test it by subscribing to the podcast directly via the "Advanced" menu, choosing "Subscribe to podcast", and adding the actual podcast feed:

  • Ipod customer services

I have 4 Ipod touches and have had a problem with my 2nd gen 32gb ipod touch. The Ipod screen has turned white which I believe is called the screen of death. The Ipod is covered by 12months warrenty.I sent it away on the 2nd december to be repaired. It arrived at 9.50am the following day.I received an email back 5 hours later to say that they will not be repairing the item because of accidental damage and misuse.I phoned customer services and they told me a different story. They said that the ipod has water damage.I have taken photos of the ipod before it went for repair and I do know about the water indicator and the colour of the paper was WHITE. So can I take it to the apple store to sort it out as customer services are not interested even when I said I have proof.Could someone advice the best action to take.

  • I think my ipod needs service?

I believe I have done everything I can do to get this ipod to work and it still doesn't. I get the folder with the exclamation point and can't seem to get rid of it. It makes a clicking noise and gets real hot. I have tried to reset it. I have tried to update it. I have tried to restore it..I have tried to restore in disk mode. It says can't mound ipod. Do I know have to go to service? If so...why would I pay 275 to repair when I could go out and get a new ipod tomorrow for the same price.
Something is seriously wrong that my (2nd) ipod has been kept in good care and it is done after 14 months.

Ok, we were just having this discussion earlier. Rather than take credit for what someone else said, just go here:

  • Just spoke to ipod customer service

he said he hadn't been hearing much of these problems, mostly some freezing up with Itunes 6.0 and the older ipod software. I advised him to check out the message boards & to let someone know that all the boards are flooded with these issues, not just the click wheel ipod, but all types.
His suggestion was to take it to a store to be serviced.
    Oh well.

call and ask for Mick. He is a manager/supervisor type person that told us he has been seeing quite a few since Christmas and they returns/replacements was backed up 48 hours to even send the email, in fact the first time we called we never got the email that had the return label so we called again 5 days later and mick got right on it and even called us back to tell us that he sent the email himself so we should get it.
So when you call the first human you talk to just ask for Mick.

i have to send in my ipod mini for a new battery soon, and i was wondering if they send back the same ipod or if they send you a new one? i know this sounds stupid (and believe me, i want a mini back) but if you send a cell phone in for service, sometimes they send you a completely different model, so will apple do that too? if so, please tell me that there is no way that i will get a shuffle...
