6.4 beta goes AWOL

Beta ACR converter 6.4 installs and functions until the following day when the new beta disappears and the prior ACR converter appears and won't open files defined in 6.4 but not in prior editions.

Not sure how that would happen.  Did you do a System Restore or install Photoshop or Premier or Elements?  Have you tried downloading and installing the update, again, from http://www.adobe.com/downloads/updates/

  • Can I stop the "Attempting to Rebind" after EnvMgr goes AWOL...

    Hi All.
In the last few weeks I have had the Environment Manager (for development)
go AWOL in as many weeks.
During a restart - after cleaning up (stop/id) all other Forte processes - I
run into virtual memory limitations - and the restart fails.
A larger virtual memory quota (doubling the pagefile quota actually) did the
    trick.
However the quota is too large to be kept and I have reverted to 400,000
blocks (OpenVMS talk for about 200MB).
The problem appears to be caused by all this attempted rebinding.
"With Forte Release 3, this rebinding process is asynchronous" (see
    TN11537).
Q: Can I disable the attempted rebind so to reduce memory needs on a restart
    after the EnvMgr goes AWOL?
Supplementary Q: If so - How?
    TIA and Seasons Greetings,
    Dirk

  • Would i be better going for a Macbook Pro with retina display or one without for a 15 year old teenager?

I'm unsure of what to get my son for his birthday, he is a 15 year old teenager doing GCSE's at the moment and needs a laptop for work. this would be his first one, but he uses a desktop a lot, the mac book would be used for programming, some CAD work, a bit of gaming and watching movies but as you could appreciate i don't want it to be too expensive, has anybody got any idea's? P.S. if i was to get the non retina display version, how long would apple support security updates and OS upgrades (E.g. to OS X Yosemite) for it?

Other than refurbished units (which are usually very good buys) the only non-Retina model currently sold as new is the 13" MacBook Pro, which still has an optical drive, user replaceable RAM and hard drive, etc.
If you're going to go the non-Retina route, I might suggest searching for a 15" 2012 non-Retina model. It seems to be the most stable model that's been made, lately. Like the other non-Retinas, you can upgrade the RAM and hard drive yourself and it, too, comes with an optical drive.
Either a new machine or a refurb will be supported for a long, long time, I imagine. I don't expect my 2011 model (non-Retina, of course) to be out-of-date for the next 3-5 years, for instance (if the machine actually lasts that long - 2011 15" & 17" models have not had a good track record).
Check out the refurbs here -> http://store.apple.com/us/browse/home/specialdeals/mac?afid=p219|GOUS&cid=AOS-US -KWG-MAC. You may be able to find a good 2012 refurb that would serve your son well, with the full one-year warranty (and eligible for AppleCare extended warranty).
    Good luck,
    Clinton

  • Mouse goes AWOL

For no apparent reason, the Magic Mouse pointer freezes. I do Prefs > Mouse and it says that the mouse can't be found. I do Searching and the pinwheel goes for some time. It than says "Mouse Found" but no change. I switch off the mouse (the mechanical switch on its bottom) and on, and its tiny green light flashes. Then "mouse found" but no change. I press Continue and after a few seconds the mouse works. Mouse battery = 55%.
My Magic Trackpad has no trouble.
Anyone else got this (my only problem with Lion, ain't I lucky!) New (2011) iMac 21".

If you have a multi-coloured Apple in the top left then: go to  Apple Menu > Control Panel > Monitor > In there you will find controls to adjust the CRT display up, down, left, right and the keystone. slowly adjust these until the whole display is visible on the screen.
If you have a blue Apple in the top left then do the same but go:  Apple Menu > System Preferences... > Displays > .
Let us know how you get on.

  • Data going AWOL

Our iFolder instance has had a problem with data going missing for a while. Whole folders will suddenly become empty which is as much as problem as it sounds.
I don't know if it's something in iFolder that could be causing this or whether it is a user issue. Many of our iFolders have a large number of users sharing the data.
Is there a way to prevent users from deleting the data? I.E. can we give them read/write but not delete permissions?
It's difficult to determine the cause because the data is discovered missing and the users don't seem to know when it went missing, trying to get specific document names has been challenging also. We have implemented a more comprehensive/robust backup solution but that doesn't solve the issue.

No, the data is on a separate partition on a virtual disk (the box in question is a VM). The issue is not recovering files (We have Commvault doing nightly backups, etc), the issue is that the data is going missing in the first place on an enourmous scale (I.E. huge directories of IP will disappear). The strangest thing is that when this happens, the directory structure is still intact, it's only the files that are no longer there.

  • CR7 Export from Viewer goes AWOL

    Post Author: david.hawkins-mcdowell
    CA Forum: Exporting
We have a VB6 app that has been happily generating reports using CR7 for a number of years.
In the past few weeks we have noticed that when exporting a report from the Viewer (using the Viewer's export functionality) the export vanishes without trace - yet only for Reports that use Stored Procs with Parameters.
On pressing export we get the first dialog (to select the format and destination). When OK is pressed, no further dialogs are shown, no errors are displayed. In fact the viewer remains open and continues as normal.
We are not sure if a recent XP update may have had an impact or whether another environments issue is likely.
    Has anyone encountered anything similar?

    Post Author: david.hawkins-mcdowell
    CA Forum: Exporting
We've since found that the problem appears to be with a null being passed to the Stored proc. As a workaround, we've changed the procs and forced values into the parameters where null was working fine beforehand.
Just to clarify, the report displays in the viewer ok, it's the export from the viewer that was causing the problem.

  • My Yahoo Toolbar keeps going awol? Why, how can I keep it from happeing?

I've used firefox for years in conjunction with yahoo. All of a sudden, my yahoo toolbar has disappeared. Is there a problem with the new versions of you or them? How can I have my toolbar and eat it to?

Tried this and only worked one time. Had read someplace else that if quit iPHoto and reset screen saver problem was solved. That did work for me regardless of whether or not had dragged the screensaver.plist to the desk-top. But still annoying as I like to keep iPoto open (minimized) in the dock to make it easier to import pix while reading blog Ann e-mails with photos attached. Hope Apple will correct when 10.10 is up-dated. Appreciate any comments very much.

  • ONe email goes AWOL, .Mac

I purchased 24 hours worth of BT connect whilst at airports and was sent an email confirmation. I checked it was there because I knew I would need it the next day. It was sent via my .Mac which has been flaky. Never the less it was there.
Following day I open mail to find that email as it had the log on password and its not there. A search in spotlight reveals nothing the email is totally gone from the mac.
Once I got home and looked on my other mac. There it was no problem.
So what went wrong? I thought IMAP was supposed to sync all macs, in which case its either totally not on any mac or its on all, so why had is disappeared from my Macbook?
(I absolutely did not under any circumstances delete this email, then go into my deleted folder and delete it again, so please do not suggest I did)

I did a reset using Erase All Content and Settings. This solved the problem. Apple has learned something from Microsoft; reinstall when things go wrong. What next, the blue screen of death?
Seriously, I hope Apple fixes this.

    Hi,
You can, but it is not an option or a flag.
You should make an export of your environment on
your exploitation process. You will save your nodes
    definitions and applications.
When you restart your environment use the export file to
rebuild the environment. Side effect : it will be clean
    too.

  • Who has a brand new Mac with Lion?

I've been reading about all these issues with Lion. (yes i realize most people who are happy don't post) Most of the time when someone has an issue someone else says that their system must have been screwed up prior to the upgrade or they did something wrong, or have software that causing the issue, etc. I'm wondering if any of you are having issues with Lion on a brand new Mac? A new computer that came with Lion or at least a brand new computer that you installed Lion on as soon as you took it out of the box. Something NEVER used without Lion.
Seems to me that if the vast majority of brand new Macs that come with Lion installed are working great then the problems people are seeing may in fact be something that already existed in their system prior to the upgrade. But if people with brand new virgin Macs are having issues with Lion then it HAS to be system bugs.
I think this information could be a good indicator if the OS has a ton of bugs or if it simply does not get along well with possible existing bugs your computer may already have.
I have two 2009 Macs and I'd love to upgrade to Lion because i like to keep my systems current but honestly I'm afraid too!!

I bought my iMac (mid 2011 model) in July (brand new) and have Lion 7.1 installed. I have found many things which I would class as being "a different way of doing things from what I am used to", through "oddities (some annoying)", and a few that are clearly bugs, such as the Magic Mouse pointer going AWOL for about 45 secs. once per day, very short mouse battery life (eg., a few days), Mail not showing the addressee when doing a word search. But I have not had any killer problems like many of the other posters such as Wifi not working. I just grit my teeth and hope that Apple will soon get things straight.
Someone said that Lion should have been classed as a beta release and I think there is some truth in that. However, it is important to realise that the people who post here are the ones with problems, not satisfied customers. How many Lions have been sold? A million?
I was put off initially when I got my iMac and was glad that at that time it came with Snowleopard, but I took the plunge and am glad that I did. I like many of the features in Lion.

  • More Problems with my new computer

Well I'm beginning to think this new machine is acting very much like what happened back in 1996-97 when I rebuilt a Packard Bell Legend 1956 only to have the computer croak better than either a frog or my cartoon namesake on "South Park" because the recovery disk didn't recognize the new componentry.
after I thought I revived it with this forum's assistance. after 5 days it started acting up with "turn off computer" icon going AWOL. since I didn't have a backup I went to system restore which promptly froze midway thru the process.
so what I did was to take out my Digital Lifeguard software and try and reconfigure the I:\ drive to a C:\
eventually it said that Windows couldn't start because it needed a pci driver.
so on July 5th a technician showed up & it came back.
now on the 11th when I started it up. & changed the secondary drive to a C:\
so now I figured why not reformat the I:\ & and put XP Pro on the C:\ so my programs won't start a revolt
especially since I only had 1 day left before activation.
Now the computer is in an infinite loop saying that Windows cannot install because the hard drives are not available to install the temp files.
by thw way the chip head was wondering why both of the optical drives were on the master cable & the HD's were on the slave. he also warned me that this computer's configuration was problemaic and I will have errors.
I wanted this type of computer because I wanted to know what was the differences between an OEM & a custom built especially since they recovered quite differently as well.
In retrospect, I think I would've did much better with another OEM because I would've had recovery CD's/DVD's
and for 1 year tech support would've help me thru the transition from the old one to the new.
I've been reading the manual to this motherboard trying to figure out how to not send this computer into orbit along with the shuttle! & wasting $1600. so far nary a clue could be discerned.
the builder says that I shouldn't of tinkered with it and run the computer as he built it but the way I see it 1. If I didn't tinkered I would not be advancing my computing frontiers. 2. I would be a hostage to the builder & that is unacceptable because I would rather try & solve this myself than either pay good money waiting for somebody to fix it.
                                                                                           Thanks yet again
                                                                                           spacechild(Ken Greene)
PS. as far as the registration goes I guess I'm screwed yet again because of no receipt but this reinforces my point about being dependent on somebody else.
I appreciate very much all the efforts you've done for me as far as this computer goes
                                                                                           spacechild

To Maesus, Emperor & Blazer:I have the MSI 925XE Neo Platinum 54g
& I plan to use both of the Hard Drives meaning RAID 0.
and the 11-1 card reader is an ATF Pro 9 model
in addition my Power supply is a 450 watt Xion model with 18 Amps at +12v
    if that further helps you.
Last night when I attempted to solve this I got this at the end of the startup process
    "Windows XP Professional Setup"
"Windows cannot find the temporary installation files"
"The Hard Drive on which Setup placed temporary files is not currently available to Windows XP.
You may need a manufacturer supplied device driver or you may need to run setup again and select a drive that is compatible with Windows XP for the temporary installation files.
See your Windows XP documentation for more information.
On x86 based computers, floopy disks generated by setup for non CD installations are not suitable for installing from CD
Setup cannot continue. To quit press F3
then a 2nd screen with a red progress meter appears saying that the computer will reboot in 15 seconds then it reboots with the same message going in an infinite loop.
    what does this mean?
also I think one of the reasons why I'm having this problem is that not only are the two optical drives are are on the Primary Master & Slave channel
but the BIOS indicates that there are 3 more Master\Slave channels as well and the HD's are on the 3rd one
again I truly appreciate this forum trying to be the Tech support that I'm not getting with the builder.
I'm truly sorry about this as well but at least I'm learning in the same way that I did with the other computers I've had since 1994.

You might want to export the Environment definition and

    Hi,
We usually do a shutdown on the topmost level using escript. I assume that
will shutdown all installed partitions and the environment. Or did I get it
wrong that we have to shutdown application first that the environment?

    Hi,
Sorry, I don't have that kind of problem. Are you doing your
    shutdown
on the application level from EConsole ? Do you shutdown your
    application
before shutting down the environment ? Do you have the same symptom
    after
having rebuilt your environment repository ?
The best I could say is still to make an export of the environment
    on
your exploitation procedures (every day for instance) and to restart
your environment from this export. I presume that you still have
    referenced
links in your environment repository which are not available. Until
    you
make a clean Environement repository from an edf file you may have
    the
    problem.
    Hope this helps,

  • G4 Box software upgraded recently to 17.3

I havent used BTY much lateley as HH5 is still dropping connection to often (I should k=look on the bright side and think of the money I have saved not watching films) However, as the above problem seems to be slowly (very very slowly mind you) improving I thought i woulld catch a bit of thr TdF on Eurosport.
I notice my little G4 box software was upgraded a few weeks ago to 17.3 ....... anyone any ideas what's fixed/added &/or changed ????
I have noticed I can get a red button (almost forgot that ever existed) but cool timing for Games in Scotland (hopefully BBC will be doing their bit again).

Thanks for that ........... my Red button is still working, that's two days on the trot (not a record I know but ...... it's better than Infinity 2 & HH5 at the moment .... that gives me Infinity 1 and even that goes AWOL every day!!!)
