6 beeps on start up HP ENVY h8-1540t Desktop PC

HELP!!  My PC is still under warranty and I'm getting 6 beeps.  Yes I have power,  Yes I did the rest of the RAM.  Everything is connected.  Fans run,  checked the monitor and it works.
I think my video card according to your web site is done.

I thought of something else. Did you physically remove the video card to see if the beeps went away? To get by, you can remove the card and switch over to the video on the motherboard if the video card has failed.

    Urgent help!
Out of the blue my mac lost the mouse cursor even though it had connection so I rebooted only for the mac to make a loud beep on start up then get stuck at the blue loading screen. It won't load past the blue screen. I've tried to reboot holding down the shift key but no change. I've also shut down, unplugged the main for 15 seconds, re plug and wait 5 seconds before starting up again but no change. Does anyone have any suggestions?
PS: I'm not too sure which systems I am running without being able to check in about this mac. I bought my imac in January or February 2011 if that helps.

The power on self-test resides in the ROM of the computer. This test runs whenever the computer is turned on after being fully shut down (the power-on self-test does not run if the computer is only restarted).
If a fault is detected during the test, you will not hear a normal startup chime. Instead, the system will beep as explained below. If you experience one of these beeps, you may call your Apple Authorized Service Provider for additional troubleshooting assistance.
1 beep = no RAM installed
2 beeps = incompatible RAM types
3 beeps = no good banks
4 beeps = no good boot images in the boot ROM (and/or bad sys config block)
5 beeps = processor is not usable

three beeps when starting from a disc

If your MBP came with lion or mountain lion.  You will need to reboot the computer with a bootable Lion DVD. Unlike previous versions of Mac OS X, Lion (OS X 10.7) doesn’t ship with a bootable disc—it’s available only as an installer app downloadable from the Mac App Store.  Once you have attained one of these disks. Boot and enter utilities and reformat the hard disk. Ensure that "Guid" is selected under options and that you also select "Mac OS Extended - Journaled. Hopefully before you do any of this you have a very recent time machine backup.
Once reformatted the computer should startup from the Lion Boot DVD without the beeps and you can reinstall the OS and restore your backup.

  • Ibook g4 what to do, 3 beeps on start up.

    Hello,
You will have to bare with me as I'm not well up on macs but hoping you can provide some ideas.
Ive had an Ibook g4 for years now and its never failed me untill roughly 5 months ago when I tried to turn it on and I got 3 beeps on start up (apparently no good banks).
Ive looked around and its something to do with my Ram. Ive looked inside and it looks like that i have built in Ram as there are no ram sticks inside, otherwise id simply pull them out and reposition as seen on other articles. Ive also been quoted 50 pound from a local shop to just diagnose the problem!
Ive seen that on ebay people are fetching 80 - 100 pound for faulty G4's, but not sure what to do. So my questions to you are:
    - Should I try and get it fixed, will this be expenisve, is it worth it for this product, and where do I get it fixed?
    - Does anywhere trade in macs towards a new one?
    - Should I just put it on ebay and hope for the best?
Not sure what to do or who to turn to but I cant leave the thing lying there much longer as its served me well for years!
Thanks in advance for any of your ideas
    Kerrie

Hi, and welcome to Apple Support Communities.
If there is no good RAM and there is no RAM installed in the one user-accessible RAM slot, then that means that the built-in RAM which is soldered to the logic board has failed. The iBook is not worth the price of the repair.
You could sell it on eBay, but you might get more out of it if you disassemble it and sell the parts. Also, if you can get the battery to charge, I would suggest charging it up until two lights flash on the battery indicator (which will set it up for storage), so you can sell the battery, too.
Since I don't know which exact model it is, check out iFixit's index page for G4 iBooks, and get ready with a screwdriver and spudger.

    Good luck!

  • 3 beeps at start up mac book pro

my daughter macbook slid off the sofa, after hitting the floor she opened the lid to check it and now it has 3 beeps at start up and wont actually start up.
i think its the RAM, could it have gotten knocked loose? If so, HOW do we locate it and put it back in place?

    1. Yes.
    2. Check your computer’s documentation, or click here and look up the instructions for the computer.

Usually inside the battery compartment. Check your user manual for instructions on accessing the RAM slots. If you don't have the manual you can download a copy at support.apple.com/manuals/. You will need to know the actual model you have to get the correct manual for it.

  • Satellite X200-25H - 3 beeps on start up and wont boot-up

Hi guys, I'm looking for a little advice before I get in touch with Tosh, it might be something I can fix myself hopefully.
I Have a slight issue with my laptop at present. I've turned it on this morning and received 3 beeps on start up (a quieter beep pause then loud beep pause then another loud beep) and fails to boot. I have the power, battery and standby lights on lit and the fans appear to be whirling ever so slightly but I cant get no POST or the Toshiba Screen to appear. On the surface it looks like a hardware fault, the thing is in the few years I've had this laptop, I've not experienced any issues what so ever.
It was fine shutting down last night, the error seems to have appeared from nowhere.
Any idea what these 3 beeps could point to? I've had a quick look this morning ie re-seating the RAM and Hard Drives but I got fed up trying to figure out which of the 100 more screws I needed to undo to get to the GPU's and CPU haha. Just looking for a little direction.
    Kind Regards
    Tony

    Hi
Yes, the single motherboard is very expensive so if warranty is not valid anymore then its not worth to spend the money only for new mobo.
    >>It is unfair that after spending lot of cash for the notebook, it didn't last longer than 3 1/2 years completely disappointed with Toshiba now.
Guess what? My dad bought a notebook from another manufacturer; the notebook did not boot up after 3 month of usage. Fortunately the warranty was still valid.
So its just a bad luck dude. Notebook can start to malfunction after some days/weeks of usage of after years or it will run properly the whole time.
Ive got two Toshiba notebooks. Until now everything works properly.

  • Ideapad n581 beeping at start up

Hi its rashed. I have ideapad n581. For a few weeks my laptop is beeping during start up. It doesn't beep the same every time. Its different. After beeping stops a screen (titled: Windows boot manager) shows and asks to choose an operating system where Windows 7 appears. when i press enter the laptop starts. it seems working fine but i have noticed some problems with the touch pad. im not sure about it but i think when it starts sometimes the lowest icon of the desktop is selected.
I cannot solve the problem. tried cleaning the ram.
Operating system of the laptop: Windows 7 home prm
    4GB ram
Would be great if any one can help.
    Thanks

Maybe it's your mouse problem / faulty. Need to change the new one. BTW do you do any RAID?

Nope such patterns, they are all the same, short and fast. I get one beep a few seconds after I hit the power button then after the POST screen comes up a second or two after it comes up the short rappid beeps go one untill it goes on to the RAID (set-up/test I guess it is?) the last beep or two usaully sounds a bit odd, I assumed becasue it was doing the RAID check (or whatever it is).
Yes a while ago, probably a month or two now though.
Nope, I've tried that a few times, it doesn't do anything.

  • Z77A-GD55 Doesn't beeps at start

Hi everyone, I just recently replaced my P67A-GD55 by a Z77A-GD55 and so far there is no problem at start up or shut down. I have a little question though; ¿ Is it OK for the board not to beep at start up? We verified that the little speaker in the motherboard is working, we take out the memory and beeped, so we are sure it is OK
I am asking the question because this thread says that AMI BIOS must beep once to indicate that it is working OK
    https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=86906.0
    Thanks

New bios versions have the beeps on a successful boot removed as most considered that annoying. It will only beep in case of problems. So no beeping is good.

  • Envy h8-1409 Desktop-Problem Installing Catalyst Control Center on Wiindows 7 for Radeon HD 7570

    Hi,
I just purchased an HP Envy h8-1409 desktop.  It came with Windows 8 but I downgraded to Windows 7 due to my unfamiliarity with the new Windows 8.
Officially, HP only provides Windows 8 drivers for this particular model I bought.  However, I was able to find another HP desktop model (h8-1360t) that has almost the same hardware that has Windows 7 drivers.  I downloaded all the Windows 7 drivers and was able to install properly for everything except for the Graphics Card (Radeon HD 7570).  There was an error message during the start of the installation complaining that the driver was unable to find supported hardware on my machine.  I ended up using "Windows Update" to get the driver for the Radeon HD 7570.
Having installed the Radeon HD 7570 driver only allows Windows to recognize my graphics card but I was unable to adjust any advanced settings.  So I went to AMD's website to get the latest Catalyst Control Center package.  During the installation, no error was found and everything seemed alright.  However after the installation is complete, I was unable to see Catalyst Control Center anywhere on my computer (e.g. Start menu, right-click menu, etc).  Also, when I checked the "ATI Technologies" folder, it was empty!
I also tried using AMD's auto detect agent but my graphics card was not even recognized.
I am running out of ideas on how I can get Catalyst Control Center installed.  Please help!

    Hello,
Here is an article about downgrading a Windows 8 computer.  I hope it helps.
    Good luck!

  • HP ENVY Phoenix 810se Desktop not Loading

    Hello,
I didnt find any recent post regarding the HP ENVY Phoenix 810se Desktop with Windows 8.1.
My Envy is currently stuck in the screen just after the HP symbol is displayed. PC starts, HP symbol appears, "Please Wait" appears wth dots circling on a black screen, screen turns blue-this is where stays. Nothing I do changes it unless I hit the power button.
This started last night. I logged on like normal, stepped away to the watch the Sons of Anarchy that i had DVR'd. When I returned 20 minutes later, I saw 4 lines of the repeated statement. Something along the lines of boot discuss not found.
Any support would be greatly appreciated.
    Best,
    Dave

    Steadyhand, welcome to the forum.
The error message that you are receiving normally means that the hard drive has failed.  I suggest running  SMART from the BIOS.  This will tell you if it has failed.

  • Where are the front USB ports on the HP Envy 700-210 Desktop?

I bought the Envy 700-210 desktop because it has so many USB ports.   However, I can only find 8 - 2 on top and 6 in the back.   According to the specifications, there are supposed to be some in the front.   Do I have to take something apart to find them?
    Thanks.

    VJR-Savannah, welcome to the forum.
Here is the Product Specifications page for the computer.  If you look at the picture of the computer in the link, I believe that the front cover below the Red band slides down to expose the USB ports.  This is how it works on my Envy 810-135qe.

  • Very poor sound quality on bluetooth headphones through HP Envy 700-074 desktop

I recently purchased a pair of Bose AE2W wireless bluetooth headphones to use with my HP Envy 700-074 desktop computer. After successfully pairing the headphones the sound quality is extremely poor. I know the headphones are not the pronblem since they sound beautiful when paired with my iPhone or iPad.
I have tried updating the driver, but I have the most current version installed according to the computer. Adjustment of the Beats Audio controls or any other sound controls does not help.
