6 channel sound

How do I get 6 channels working? I get only 2 channels working. No bass. no surround. I cloud not find anything with google or in this forum
I have     ALC650 AC'97 Audio CODEC on Abit IC7-G motherboard
Kernel 2.6.10

I have a different soundcard, but the settings could be similar. In gnome-alsamixer I have these options:
Line-in as rear
mic as center/LFE
Enable them (or some similar things) and connect the proper outputs (line-in and mic in my case) to amp.

  • Reflection of the received Signal for Channel Sounding

I am trying to use a USP NI 2920, under Labview control, in order to make a sort of channel sounding. The USRP generates a pseudonoise (PN) sequence that BPSK modulate the carrier sent to a TX antenna. The same USRP runs a receiver process that acquire the signal form RX antenna, demodulate it and correlate it with a copy of the PN. so now my problem is that the received signal is from the LOS but i want the received reflected signal too so how can i get it and represent it I hope any help would be appericated
    Finally Thanks

    Hi Aomine,
please don't ask the very same question by PN!

  • Multi-Channel Sound Card?

I have the 13" Aluminum MacBook from late 2008... (The specs for which are at http://support.apple.com/kb/SP500 - I read them but they didn't answer my question)
Does this unit have a multi-channel sound card? If so, how is this used? I'm looking to run Mixmeister Fusion on it, but I'm not sure if the sound card is compatible.
If it's not, is there an external card I can plug in that would make this work?
    Thanks!

Mixmeister has some devices that they recommend listed on their web site:
    http://www.mixmeister.com/products_djhardware.html
You might also try asking for opinions and advice in their own forums. You'll be more likely to get replies that are truly applicable there, I would guess.

  • Multi-Channel Sound Cards

    Hi,
I was wondering if flash player had support for multi-channel
sound cards. Everytime I play a .swf with sound i only get audio
    out of two channels.

The audio interfaces that I use are an EMU 1820 and a Tascam FW-1884 firewire device. Both are fine for what I do (broadcast quality material). I believe the EMU gives better audio quality and is certainly more robust, but the Tascam, being Firewire, is more easily movable between machines. I also like to work with real faders and it integrates well enough with Audition to be usable. The EMU has the incredibly flexible virtual mixer, but I find it hard work keeping my brain up to speed with this.
I also have other cards either inside machines or usb, but these are all just 2 channel.
I'd be surprised if anyone was using Audition for logging, as the requirements are rather specialised. I'm way out of touch with this field now, but the requirements used to be that the recorder could be left to run continuously, and users on the network should be able to pull material off at random while the recording continued. Recording is the fairly easy bit, management is the problem.
I'd have thought any computer based system ought to be capable of high quality. There are one or two low-cost or free loggers, I believe, but I've no idea how useful they are.

  • Premiere Elements 12: 6 channel sound issue

I have Premiere elements 12. I'm importing a movie clip with 6 channel sound. When I playback in the editing window, I only hear the 2 rear channels. Since my laptop only has stereo speakers, I want to be able to either
    a) collapse the 6 channels into 2 stereo channels or
    b) select which speakers to hear (the front stereo pair rather than the rear pair)
I can't find anywhere to change these settings. can anyone help?

    ATR,
Other than expanded info, I do not see how that differs from what I said, but perhaps missed something.
One popular mis-conceptions is with the LFE. Many think that it contains all of the lower-frequency audio, when it seldom does, at least in a professional 5.1 mix - it is for Low Frequencey Effects, hence the official name, LFE. It does drive a sub-woofer, in a DD 5.1 SS system, but most of the stream that feeds that will be specific low-frequency streams, usually added in the studio. Some recording systems do feed more of the regular Bass to the LFE Channel, like some cameras, that shoot 5.1, but it is not how the LFE should be used - how it was designed and employed by the engineers. It was designed for earthquake rumbles, explosions, etc., and usually contains material right at, and below 20Hz - sub-sonic material, that is more "felt," than "heard." When mixing for DD 5.1 SS, I will feed from about 25 - 30Hz and below, to the LFE Channel, but little above that range.
Otherwise, it appears that I said about the same - where do you think that I went wrong?
    Good luck,

  • 4 channel sound on MBP?

    Hi Folks,
Had my shiny new MBP for a week now and so far so good! I was hoping there was a way to get this thing to pump out 4 channel sound for watching dvd's etc? I'm actually using a 5.1 channel system but I'm prety sure that is a stretch too far, and the speakers are capable of mixing the centre and subwoofer channels on their own. I know on windows you can select the input socket to pump out the rear channels, is there anything similar for OSX?
    Thanks so much,
    DJ

Out of the box I'm not aware of any way of using the mic socket as an output for rear speakers, but there are a number of USB audio devices that will work happily under OS X.

  • X-Fi: cannot get multi-channel sound or SPDIF passthrough

I've owned an X-Fi XtremeMusic since it first came out, and have been running it with a MCE2005 system. I've had it hooked up to a home theater receiver via SPDIF and 5. analog, but have only had stereo speakers until today. So, right now I'm trying to get multi-channel sound to work. I'm using the latest drivers (have also tried the original drivers) and have all Microsoft patches applied.
First, I cannot seem to get it out of stereo mode. Using the analog outputs to the 5. analog input on my receiver and setting the X-Fi to 5. speakers refuses to produce sound from anything except front left/right. I've used the Speaker Connection Wizard, the THX Console, the Speaker & Headphone console... and no matter what speaker icon I click on the sound comes out of the front left or right as if it is downmixing. I've also tried 4.0, 6. and 7. modes - no improvement. Also, multi-channel sound does not work in MCE setup, games, etc.
Quite by accident I discovered that if I enable CMSS I can get *some* sort of sound from the rear speakers, but only in the sense of an effect. Also, with CMSS enabled, when testing the front center I get the word "front" out of the left/right speakers which then fades out before "center". If I test it again I get nothing (except a slight effect from the rear).
Finally, I cannot get the SPDIF passthrough to work (it DOES work just fine passing out stereo 48khz sound). I've enabled SPDIF on the flexi-jack, I've set Dolby Digital and DTS to "external decoder required", and NONE of my applications present me with an option to use the SPDIF. This includes MCE, VLC and the latest version of CyberLink PowerDVD. Basically it seems that they can't see that there is a SPDIF on the system to use.
Anyone else experienced this? I've spent 5 hours testing everything I can think of and trying different combinations of settings and I am completely at a loss!

Well, I guess I'll answer my own problem in the hopes that it might help someone else.
It seems that hour 8 of frustrated troubleshooting turned up the cure: all of this boils down to Logitech's stupid Quickcam Fusion drivers. With Logitech's "AEC" echo cancellation mode enabled for the built-in microphone, their drivers automatically turn audio acceleration down to second from the bottom. This results in the X-Fi performing nearly no hardware processing (later testing with DXDiag also said I had no hardware buffer). This results in no multi-channel audio, and no SPDIF passthrough.
There are a couple of solutions...
) Disable "AEC" mode from the Logitech Quickcam control panel applet's Audio tab (and reboot). This worked for me.
    2) If this doesn't work, go into the Device Manager and disable the Quickcam's microphone (and reboot). This worked for me, but then I tried # which also worked and still let me use the microphone.
    3) Logitech's site (which mentions this problem/solution but only in the context of it causing BSOD crashes, not with it messing up multi-channel sound cards) mentions renaming one of their Audio directories to disable the microphone, although I don't see why this would be better than #2 (see http://logitech-en-amr.custhelp.com/...p?p_faqid=4066 for more).
    4) Unplug the camera.
So, I'm back in business - or rather, I'm only NOW in business!
Interesting that the Creative diagnostics utility turned up anything amiss. It claimed that everything was hunky dory, when the card was obviously in a mode where it could not possibly work correctly.

  • Audigy 4 Pro - can only get 2 channel sound via SPDIF/optical connecti

I have two PC's, one with an Audigy 4 Pro and one with an Audigy 2 Platinum (A2P), I have my 5. speakers hooked up to the A2P and the A4P connected via the SPDIF to the A2P, I would expect to get 5. - both are setup to use 5. speakers, (I know that as a standard Digital coax/optical connections should handle multi speaker configs my entire A/V sound system (7. Dolby) uses optical and coax and it works fine).
If I run the channel test on the Audigy 4 I can get nothing but sound through the left and right speakers, if I run the test on the Audigy 2 (speakers direct connected) the sound is fine, if I reconnect the speakers to my Audigy 4 I get sound on all speakers so it looks like its an issue with the SPDIF and optical inputs (I tried both).
I have emailed tech support, I'm waiting for them to come back and tell me that the Audigy 4 cannot transmit more than two channels down the SPDIF/optical outs, thats my suspicion anyway, if that is the case then I'm not going to be a happy man and the Audigy will be going back to the store. Could be a driver problem of course as I cant believe they would implement Dolby and THX and only transmit two channels on the optical outs, that would be a bit dumb considering the primary use for digital connections is sound system interconnects.
Anyone with any ideas about this let me know, perhaps theres a hidden setting somewhere or a registry setting that switches the digital outs to carry all signals.

Just before everyone kicks off, heres a response I got from a tech guy at Creative themselves.
If you connect speakers to your sound card using a digital cable
(RCA/SPDIF or optical) then the software speaker test will only output
from two speakers. The reason for this is that the speaker test signal is
not in AC3 nor DTS format.
The signal on a digital connection is either
Optical SPDIF - which is either Stereo PCM signal or AC-3/DTS Bitstream
RCA SPDIF - which is either Stereo PCM signal or AC-3/DTS Bitstream
If you play AC3 (Dolby Digital) or DTS encoded signals, the amplifier
decodes this and outputs it to all 6 speakers (5 satellites & subwoofer)
    discretely.
When playing back stereo signals (such as Wav/CD Audio or MP3/WMA files)
the amplifier may generate 5. output based on the incoming stereo PCM
signal, provided Dolby Pro Logic decoding is available and activated.
Therefore the speaker test should not be relied on when using RCA or
    Optical digital connections.
This applies to all speaker systems equipped with RCA or Optical digital
    connections.
This makes sense to me and I'm pretty happy with it, basically as the reply says above the speaker test does not encode to AC3 hence if you hook two Audigys together and run the test you only get 2 channel output, if you play a DVD which is AC3/DTS encoded on one Audigy and listen to speakers hooked up to the other when both Audigys are connected via SPDIF or optical you should in theory get full playback on all speakers. Hopefully
    Cheers
    Simon

  • One Channel Sound only... Help Please

I have a 2nd gen nano and i am only getting sound in the left channel of the the headphones. I have checked that my headphones work correctly, and have cleaned the contacts with a stiff brush and 70% isopropyl alcohol. i can get sound from both channels if i hold my heaphone in the position in pictures 2 and 3. Picture 1 shows normal headphone insertion, where i only get left channel.

You need to replace the headphone jack. If you are still in warranty send it to Apple or make a Genius Bar reservation and take it to an Apple Store. If you are out of warranty you can send it to a 3rd party repair site, such as http://www.iresq.com or if you are the DIY type you can buy a headphone jack and replace it yourself. Try http://www.ifixit.com for videos on how to disassemble/reassemble your iPod. Or Google for other 3rd party sites.

  • Split channel sound after nesting advice please!

I have a edited seq of which I have nice steroe split sound, one camera track the other lapel mics so
I can easily kill the camera track and just have lapel mic when needed, on both channels etc,
I have nested the seq and the sound on the the new nest is now, still 2 channels bt a more mono mix down ie the lapel and the camera mic have mixed together on the same channel twice,
does anyone know how to in the nested sequence sperate them again so I can have the lapel mics on channel 2 and the camera mic on channel one again please, I have looked at seq settings and changed some things but nothing changed, I also took a look at the audio too, so nothing obvious there,
    Regards
    Daz

If your tracks are a stereo pair select them and click "OPTION L" This will unlock the two channels and you can then load them into the viewer and pan one channel to the left and the other to the right using the PAN Slider.

  • My iPod only outputs right channel sound...

This issue has been plaguing me for a while now, but my iPod's finally had it and is absolutely not outputting sound out of one channel. The left channel in this case. Previous fixes mainly were to press on the iPod in various places, looking for that sweet spot. Once this spot was found, sound would start playing out of the left channel again.
    This solution no longer works.
So, what do I do now? My Warranty's long expired, so...

have you trouble-shot the problem using different sets of headphones to make sure it really is your ipod that's broken, and not just the headphones? if so, iresq is the way to go.

  • Stereo Surround for Multi Channel Sounds Cards... Not Working

I have an Audidy 2 and utilize the Stereo Surround mode to listen to my music coming from all 5 of my speakers. I upgraded to iTunes 7 and noticed sound only from the left and right channels. I thought something had happened to the Sound Blaster setting, but it was still configured for 5.1 surround. I noticed all other sounds in Windows were coming in stereo surround... just not iTunes.
Prior to upgrading, version 6 allowed this functionality. It's nice to listen to the music in a large room coming from all speakers.
Has anyone else had this problem or can they duplicate it???

    It didn't work

  • L channel sound comes through both L and R speakers after installing IDT High Definition Audio Codec

I noticed a sound problem on my laptop. The R channel works as expected but the L channel is split between the L and R speakers. After checking several different possibilities I narrowed the problem down to the IDT High Definition Audio Codec that I downloaded from the HP driver support page for my notebook model and operating system.
I uninstalled the IDT High Definition Audio Codec and restarted. This forced Windows to resort to using its generic "HD Audio Device" default. When I did this the sound was equally split between the L and R speakers as I would expect - L channel 100% though L speaker, R channel 100% though R speaker. I then re-downloaded the IDT High Definition Audio Codec from HP (sp59654.exe), re-installed it, and restarted. Immediately the sound problem was back - while the R channel comes 100% though the R speaker, the L channel is split between L and R speakers.
Please note this has nothing to do with adjusting speaker "balance". Both L and R channel volumes were set to 100% while investigating this problem. It's definitely some sort of incompatibilty between the IDT High Definition Audio Codec and Windows 8 64-bit or the sound hardware in the HP Envy DV6.
    Here are my details:
    IDT High Definition Audio Codec
    Publisher: IDT
    Date: 8/19/2012
    Version: 6.10.6425.0
    Notebook
    HP Envy DV6-7200
    Windows 8 64-bit

Here is what I would recommend you trying. Go to device manager and uninstall the audio driver. Once it is uninstalled, go to the device manager toolbar and select "Scan for hardware changes". After it completes, reboot the computer. Once the computer is rebooted, test the audio and let me know if that helped.

  • Multi-Channel Sound in Director?

I'm interested in creating a 3D immersive environment in
Director. I'm looking for a way to select which speaker a sound is
played on. I know that I can set the pan for a sound over two
speakers, but would like to do that for two pairs of speakers,
    independently.
Does anyone know a way to output audio to the front and rear
channels and control what sound goes where?
    Thanks for your help!

Lingo natively has 8 sound "channels" but they all get mixed
to the same sound device. You probably need an xtra than can access
a multi-speaker setup on the sound card. Also, did you look at
OpenAL and the OpenAL xtra? It's built for 3D sound.

  • 5.1 channel sound from my Xbox via Digital in through my Audigy2 Va

Hi, I am a bit of a noob with soundcards I can't find the definati've info anywhere. Can I somehow get my Audigy 2 Value with the Digital inputs module to decode the 5. signal from my Xbox 360? I can get digital stereo to work, but when the Xbox is outputting 5. channels via optical I don't get any sound. Is this at all possible? Many thanks.

iMovie and FCPX both offer transcoding of AVCHD to an editing codec. In iMovie, it is transcoded to Apple Intermediate Codec. In Final Cut Pro X, AVCHD is transcoded to ProRes 422. In Final Cut Pro X, you have the option of editing natively in AVCHD, but most Pros will transcode to ProRes 422, because speed and quality of editing is more important to a Pro than saving on disk space. For why this transcoding is done, see this post. https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-3941
Both iMovie and Final Cut Pro X also can do analysis for stabilization, analysis for rolling shutter, etc. FCPX can also analyze for color, sound problems, and maybe more.
With Final Cut Pro, the transcoding and analysis do not slow you down, because it can happen in the background. You can start editing immediately.
Also, you mentioned that you are converting m2ts files for use in iMovie using ClipWrap. iMovie and Final Cut Pro X both handle m2ts from Sony quite well with no need for an external converter. So I assume you must be shooting 60P, which iMovie does not do. FCPX will import 60P with no need for an external converter.
Final Cut Pro X has similarities to iMovie, but it is much more complex, because you have fine control over everything. In addition to the $300 price tag, you might want to also budget for some training. There are good video-based training resources from Ripple Training, Larry Jordan, and also some free Tutorials on YouTube. THere are also good books on FCPX. The best books I have found are these from Edgar Rothermich -
