  • F&G Committee "F&G Committee" is not a valid e-mail address because it is not of the form user@host. You must correct it before sending the e-mail.

With this new v.31.1.0, released: September 2, 2014 version of Thunderbird, I can no longer e-mail to a Contact List of addressees, getting the error msg: F&G Committee <"F&G Committee"> is not a valid e-mail address because it is not of the form user@host. You must correct it before sending the e-mail. In earlier versions, the individual e-mail addresses in the list (F&G Committee in this case) are automatically put in as the e-mail is sent. Is there a solution to this problem?

  • What are you listening to right now?

So, let's kick this place off. Remember this is the off topic thread so try to keep discussions on phones in it's dedicated threads and not here.
I am thinking music for this thread - what are you listening to right now? It doesn't have to be right NOW. It could also be the album or artist you've been playing non-stop for the last week.
Me? Mastodon released their new album recently. It's called The Hunter. Great album!

you know what i was thinking the same..i was going to make a thread as off topics only but thought no one would participate
i just listened to the track you mentioned..

but i used to listen to this genre back in may i think
now i love to listen to these songs
like i love you - rio
love you like a - selena gomez

  • You all know that now some TV Shows have Closed Captions...

Well, I've tried everything, enabled closed captions on Audio & Video menu on ATV2, tried to Airplay the purchased videos with CC from my computer to the ATV, use all my CC TV shows on iCloud (bought from the itunes store), but the fact is that closed captions on TV Shows only appear on the iPod/iPad or on the computer, not on my Apple TV, and it's not only me, some of my friends have this issue too. Any of you also have it or know how to fix it?

    Frank:
I've seen what you mentioned here about incorrect artwork and order displacement in Movies section of Home Sharing in iPad mentioned in other forums as an issue.  Though I'm sorry I don't recall a fix mentioned, just that it seems to be a problem others are experiencing to I thought I'd mention.
Another thing I found useful while exploring other forums is to stop the Movies app in iPad.  To do this, or for any application, hold down the Home button on the iPad until you're at your home screen.  Then double click.  This brings up a list of open running applications and processes on the iPad on the bottom.  Simply hold down on any of these application icons until they start jiggling about.  You will also see a red "-" minus symbol for each one.  Choose Movies to stop it. It then disappears.  Hit the Home button once more to go back to your home screen and re-launch Movies and then Home Sharing.
I haven't edited any of the Movie metadata yet since I had to rebuild my entire library lately after rebuilding a drive the videos were stored on after a failure, so I haven't yet experienced what you have, but would be suprised if I didn't.  TV shows seem fine now, I'm delighted they all finally show up.  TV Shows seem to sort differently and is more sensitive to the metadata than movies from my experience and observation.  The whole thing seems finicky.  But as I continue to use and work with it, my iPad seems somehow to be "learning" my usage behaviour and is gradually sorting itself out.
    Just stay with it.
You've also sold me on the notion of getting an Apple TV2.  I've been interested in buying one since Apple redesigned it.  I've heard good things about it's usage with Home Sharing. I think I'll get one when I get back from Asia next summer.

  • I just replaced the hard drive on my macbook pro, reformatted new hard drive and copied over a backup from time machine now I have a kernel panic message (you must restart) - what do I do now?

i just replaced the hard drive on my macbook pro, reformatted new hard drive, installed a back up from time machine and now have kernel panic ( you must restart your computer) what do I need to do?

If you're able to boot, launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ If you’re running Mac OS X 10.7 or later, open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the page that opens.
Select the most recent panic log under System Diagnostic Reports. Post the contents – the text, please, not a screenshot. For privacy’s sake, I suggest you edit out the “Anonymous UUID,” a long string of letters, numbers, and dashes in the header and body of the report, if it’s present (it may not be.) Please don't post "shutdownStall" or "hang" reports.
If you can't boot in the usual way, try a safe boot. The instructions provided by Apple are as follows:
Be sure your Mac is shut down.
    Press the power button.
Immediately after you hear the startup tone, hold the Shift key. The Shift key should be held as soon as possible after the startup tone, but not before the tone.
Release the Shift key when you see the gray Apple icon and the progress indicator (looks like a spinning gear).
During startup, you’ll see a progress bar, and then the login screen, which appears even if you normally log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Safe mode is slower than normal, and some things won’t work at all.

  • Have downloaded Mountain Lion on my 2010 Mac Mini. Now when starting up, after a while I get a message that says, "You must restart your computer." I do that but get the same message again and again. Any ideas? Thanks!

I am having issues trying to start up with Mountain Lion on my 2010 Mac Mini. Here's the scenario:
    1) After starting up, I get the usual gray screen with Apple logo.
    2) After a few minutes, a darker gray screen scrolls down and in the middle of this is a black dialogue box with reversed (white) text. This text, in multiple languages, reads: "You need to restart your computer." Then it goes on to instruct on how to shut it down and restart it.
    3) I follow this instruction, but get the same dialogue box over and over agin.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks and best wishes.

If you can't boot in the usual way, try a safe boot. The instructions provided by Apple are as follows:
Shut down your computer, wait 30 seconds, and then hold down the shift key while pressing the power button.
When you see the gray Apple logo, release the shift key.
If you are prompted to log in, type your password, and then hold down the shift key again as you click Log in.
During startup, you’ll see a progress bar, and then the login screen, which appears even if you normally log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin. Safe mode is slower than normal, and some things won’t work at all. Note: If FileVault is enabled under OS X 10.7 or later, or if a firmware password is set, or if the startup volume is on a software RAID, you can’t boot in safe mode. If you're able to boot, launch the Console application in any of the following ways: ☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. The application is in the folder that opens. ☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid. Select the most recent panic log under System Diagnostic Reports. Post the entire contents — the text, please, not a screenshot. In the interest of privacy, I suggest you edit out the “Anonymous UUID,” a long string of letters, numbers, and dashes in the header and body of the report, if it’s present (it may not be.) Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of the test is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party software that loads automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, by a font conflict, or by corruption of the file system or of certain system caches.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards, if applicable. Start up in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. You must hold down the shift key twice: once when you turn on the computer, and again when you log in.
Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the startup volume is a Fusion Drive or a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to start up and run than normal, with limited graphics performance, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output on certain models. The next normal startup may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually login automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, restart as usual (not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test.

  • Submit form from PDF  - you must allow form central before it will submit

When you submit a form within a pdf document, it display "allow to connect to form central". You must click to allow before form will submit.
I think most people will not do this step. Is there a way to bipass that from coming up?
I would like to click submit button and have only the confirmation display.
    Thanks,

  • I would like to know if once you have bought Pages for ipad you must buy it for I mac too.

Hi everybody! My name's Davide and it is the first time here for me.
I would like to know if once you have bought Pages for Ipad ii you must buy it again in case you have an iMac.

The Mac & iOS Numbers are two separate applications for two different operating systems. You need to buy both, but only once for each OS.

  • How to change Description without "You must chose a build" error?

When I release a new product, I make my other products free as a way to cross-promote by adding text like, "Tap Happy is live! To celebrate, enjoy XYZ FREE for a limited time!"  With the new iTunesConnect interface, I cannot save changes to my description, support links, and the like for my existing products without getting the error:
    "You must chose a build"
Obviously, I cannot upload a new binary for seven LIVE products (ex The Gratitude Habit, Tap Happy, What Went Well, ...), just to change the description. Help!

Your example can be circumvented by users that have javascript disabled or potential hackers that may be automomating the process of submitting your form remotely. For instance, anyone can create a form using your code and change the "action" to go to your processing script:
    <form method="post" action="http://yourwebsite.com/mail.php">
        <p>First Name</p>
        <p><input type="text" name="name" size="20" /></p>
        <p>Email</p>
        <p><input type="text" name="email" size="20" /></p>
        <p><input type="submit" value="Submit" /></p>
    </form>
Then they can visit the form they've created and saved on their desktop or wherever it's located and submit it without entering data or, more importantly, inserting mailicious code
    Consider yourself warned!
The best way to validate user input is to use a server side script like the example I provided in the first reply. There's plenty of examples if you google javascript form validation or look at the source code at:

    Hey everyone in Apple world!
I figured out how to fix the flashing yellow screen problem that I've been having on my MBP!  Yessssss!!!
I found this super handy website with the golden answer: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1379
I followed the instructions on this page and here's what I did:
    Resetting NVRAM / PRAM
    Shut down your Mac.
Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command (⌘), Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
    Turn on the computer.
Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys before the gray screen appears.
Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
    Release the keys.
I went through the 6 steps above twice, just to make sure I got rid of whatever stuff was holding up my bootup process.  Since I did that, my MBP boots up just like normal.  No flashing yellow screen anymore!!
(Note that I arrived at this solution when I first saw this page: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2570?viewlocale=en_US)
Let me know if this works for you!

Sometimes when I close Firefox and try to open it in few moments it shows me message "Firefox is already running, but is not responding. To open a new window, you must first close the existing Firefox process, or restart your system." However, I haven't opened any additional Firefox related programs, and previous Firefox is closed. First I though it is because of my computer, but then I discovered that other people have the same problem as well

    Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 7.0; Windows NT 6.0; SLCC1; .NET CLR 2.0.50727; Media Center PC 5.0; .NET CLR 3.5.30729; InfoPath.2; .NET CLR 3.0.30729)

    Hi Andis.
First of all, this is completely normal behavior, although it's a bit irritating, I know. What happens is that when you close Firefox, despite the window disappearing right there and then, Firefox keeps running for a little bit until the whole closing procedure is completed. This can take a fraction of a second on fast computers, or can take a few seconds on slow computers or when Firefox is storing a large session (if you save your tabs). All you have to do is wait a bit until Firefox closes, and then open it again.
To see if it's still running, you can press CTRL+SHIFT+ESC and then, under the Processes tab, you can see if firefox.exe is still there. If it's taking an unusual amount of time to close (which happens very rarely, and only if the browser freezes on exit), you can force the application to terminate from this application (task manager).
Firefox 4.0 will reduce by 97% the time it takes firefox.exe to close, so this problem will be basically erased for Firefox's next version.
Until then, I can recommend you this extension, which helps you restart your browser more easily and without bothering about closing times:
    https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/3559/
    Hopefully this will help.
