6 GB's gone when trying to update iPhone 4

I have a lot of my hard drive used. I have a total of 6 gb's left. Today I updated my iPhone 4 to software 4.1 and tried to restore from my backup. The problem here is that while restoring from the backup those 6 gb's disappeared quickly and then iTunes comes up with an error saying could not save backup to computer after OS X told me that I ran out of disk space. I just want to know what I can delete to get those 6 gb's back ie when restoring from a backup itunes puts the file in "said" folder" or a cached folder that holds temporary files or maybe the file that keeps trying to download when it's trying to restore from the backup and never finishes downloading. Also is there anyway to delete all cached items and temporary files on my mac.

Personally I think you have a much more serious problem that needs your immediate attention and that is lack of free disk space on your Mac. In order to run properly OS X needs at least twice that free space. Three times would be even better. I suggest you look at your photos, music and video files and see if there are any you can delete.
A second solution would be to get an external drive and move files that are to good to delete but not needed immediately to it then delete the originally to free up some space.
Once you have done all of that then boot from the install DVD for your Mac and Repair the disk drive. Running without sufficient disk space has in all likelihood corrupted the file system on your disk.

Another topic is talking about this. The is an Apple server problem and not a problem with your iPhone or local iTunes environment.

  • ITunes 10.2.1 Crashes When Trying to Update iPhone 4 to iOS 4.3.2

When I plugged in my iPhone 4, iTunes told me that iOS 4.3.2 was available. I clicked on the "Download and Update" button and then from the iPhone Software Update dialog box clicked on the "Next" button and then the "Agree" button. At this point, iTunes crashes.
    Has anyone seen this?

I have not tried re-installing iTunes, however interestingly enough I plugged my iPad in and it successfully upgraded it to 4.3.2.

  • When trying to update iPhone 4 to IOS 4.3, keep getting  "network connection timeout" message.  Help!

Using iTunes and my iPhone 4 IOS 4.1 I keep getting a "network connection timed out" message.  At a lost on what to due.
    Any help appreciated.

HUGELY FRUSTRATING!! Getting a "network connection timed out" error after waiting three hours for the download to complete is unacceptable.  Had this problem running Windows 7 on an HP wireless laptop, IE 8, and Microsoft Security Essentials as my anti-virus.  I had  just updated my iTunes to the latest version so I didn't want to wipe out the whole thing and re-download as some boards suggested (I'd also tried that last year on another computer that did the same thing on an iPod update - didn't work).  I also did not want to totally disable my anti-virus program.
After reading many discussions online about the problem, here's what worked for me on the first try.  You need to add some Apple and Verisign addresses to your Trusted Sites in Internet Explorer:
In Internet Explorer go to Tools, Internet Options, Security tab.  Click on Trusted sites, then click the Sites button. I also unchecked the "disable server verification (https) for all sites in this zone" box (under the box that will show your trusted sites).  Here's what I added.  (The underlining here is not mine - done by this site reading my entries as internet addresses.  They won't underline  when you enter them in trusted sites):
    http://albert.apple.com
    http://ax.itunes.apple.com
    http://deimos3.apple.com
    http://evintl-ocsp.verisign.com
    http://evsecure-ocsp.verisign.com
    http://gs.apple.com
    http://itunes.apple.com
    http://phobos.apple.com
Worked like a charm!!  This list was culled from several posts from several different discussion forums. I then closed out IE, restarted my computer (just in case :-) ),and updated through iTunes without a problem!

  • Error message -1426 when trying to update iphone

when i connect my phone i get a message error -1426 and it will not finish sync with itunes my phone works but no wifi and no e-mail and no ipod and then it says file not found and prompts me to restore from a backup. Any help would be great. Thanks

To the original poster and Jennifer:
Although this step is not in the Apple document, I am pretty sure I found an easier way to fix 1601, 1602 and 1604 errors at my iPhone blog -- and that is to simply switch USB ports and try again -- also make sure you are not plugging in the iPhone via a hub and that it has full USB power.
I have no idea why the change of ports seems to work, but 49 out of 50 people who have tried it report success, so you've got nothing to lose.

  • I keep getting "the network connection could not be established" error message when trying to update my iPads and iPhone to iOS 5.1

I keep getting "the network connection could not be established" message when trying to update my iPad, iPad2 and iPhone4 devices using either my iMac or MacBook.  The Macs and iOS devices are apparently working correctly otherwise.  Problem started about a day ago when I connected one of the iPads to my iMac and iTunes notified my of an update for the device.  I tried and got the above message.  Tryied other iPad2 and iPhone4 and get the same message.  Also, get same message when trying to update using the MacBook. My system SW is 10.7.3 on the iMac and 10.6.8 on MacBook.  iTunes is version 10.6. Have gone thru the check list of things to check and have re-started. Would appreciate any ideas. Thanks.

Another user named Springbk posted a fix that worked for me as I was having the same problem today:
I Changed my DNS settings to OpenDNS
On a Mac go to SYSTEM PREFERENCES>NETWORK>ADVACED>DNS
    change DNS by adding ( + )
    208.67.222.222
    then
    208.67.220.220
click okay/apply after. then try the update. after the update, just delete the two open DNS server numbers. should revert back to your old one.
