6 Months On, Yellow Macbook Discoloration...

Hi All,
Just been reading some previous topics, including the Yellow Discoloration on the Macbooks at around June 2006.
Is this still an issue on the current revision of Macbooks?

Hey MPhil,
As far as I know this issue was isolated to the Rev A Core Duo MacBooks. I haven't heard any news about the discoloration issue occurring on the current Rev B Core 2 Duo MacBook models.

I have a single Pixel that is broke on my 2 month old retina macbook pro. I have Apple care. What will Happen if I bring it to an apple store.

You can try to see if they will replace it, however there is some sort of acceptable amount of stuck pixels and they won't replace so I hear.
But that was a long time ago and things change.

I will be out of town for two months, will my MacBook Pro drain out by then?
If yes what precautions should I take??

    mmnoble88,
I mean that it should not be charged higher than 50% prior to a period of not being used. If its battery is higher than 50% just before you head out of town, you should let it discharge until it’s at 50% or less.

  • White Macbook: discolored/shiny palmrests

I've had my white Macbook for about six months. Very quickly the palmrests became discolored and grimy. Glass cleaner has done a great job getting rid of the dirt, but the palmrests are still shiny - you can really see this when you look at them at an angle. It looks like sweat/oils have actually corroded away some of the finish, but I can't be sure. Has anyone else had this problem? Is there a solution apart from having the top case replaced? Thanks for any ideas.

Here's a picture of MY MacBook if it helps... (the one above I found online).

  • MacBook discoloration?

My MacBook is only like 1-month old, and there is discoloration/dirty spots on the area where i place my hands. I would like to know if there is any way to clean this? I always wash my hands, so i don't know what else i can do. It is very unpleasant to see this because it makes my MacBook appear dirty!!
    Help!!

    2 to 3 days??? LOL
I have had my MacBook for almost two months and this issue started appearing after a few weeks of use. I logged my case with Apple Care. They guided me to which service centers that I could take my MacBook to.
I go to the Apple store and they tell me, that I would have to leave my MacBook there, min 2 weeks. I got to one of their authorized service centers, then they tell me 6-8 days just to have it looked at by a tech and then who knows how long after that.
I am terribly frustrated that replacing a fricking piece of plastic is to take at least 2 weeks. I am upset that Apple expects me to be without my MacBook for 2 weeks. I expected better from Apple, especially ath the premium cost and quality from Apple. I work for Hewlett Packard, if I wanted headaches, I would have used my employee discount and gotten a notebook from them instead (at least there I know the ins and out of dealing with cust sat issues).

  • Multiple Hard Drive Failures in 2 months on 2 MacBook Pros

I have a mid-2009 13" MacBook Pro with a 320GB hard drive. In early Feb. the hard drive failed suddenly and would no longer mount. My Apple Store replaced it and I restored from a Time Machine backup. A week later the hard drive failed again. It was again replaced, and they order a completely new machine. On the second restore I did not restore from Time Machine but rather moved the files I wanted, iTunes, iPhoto, documents, as to not bring along bad system files. The new computer came in and I set it up as a new machine and transferred files from the old Time Machine but did not do a full restore. I then erased Time Machine and ran a fresh backup. Two weeks later the hard drive on the new machine failed. It locked up so I powered down and upon restart got the file folder with a question mark and the hard drive was nowhere to be found. The Apple Store kindly replaced my hard drive for the third time, the second hard drive in a two week old computer. The asked me to not move any files from Time Machine for a couple of weeks.
I now have my fourth hard drive in 2 months and I do not want a fifth. In fact, the first computer may have failed three times. At this point I don't remember. The Geniuses at the Apple Store are stumped so I'd appreciate any input. What the heck is going on here?
    My theories
    1. Simple bad luck
    2. A file in iTunes, iPhoto or an Office, iWork, pdf...... is causing the failures
    3. Restoring Office from Time Machine is killing it.
    4. I'm doing something to cause physical damage. I've never dropped it and I handle it fairly carefully and in the same way I've handled every other Mac laptop I've had in the past 10 years.
    5. Moving the computer immediately after closing the lid to sleep. I've been told that the disk doesn't stop spinning until the sleep light pulses and moving it around too much too soon can cause damage. I've been doing this every laptop I've had and in the past much more aggressively as a grad student hurrying out of class rooms.
    6. My most recent idea, not having the Put hard disk(s) to sleep when possible button checked in System Prefs. I unchecked it for better performance but maybe this is causing the hard drive to never lock when sleeping so when I move it around the heads bang on the disks.?
    7. Something environmental. Using it on my lap? Setting it on the couch or ottoman while running? A power surge?
    Please help. Thanks a lot.

Dunno about your hard drive issue.
However, everything you list in number seven are definite no-no's. All of them, except power surge, will cause heat related problems.
    Have a nice day.

  • One month old Aluminum Macbook...

I've had it for about a month now and I've had to reset the SMU twice--the first time due to issues coming out of sleep (screen turns blank but computer is still on), and the second time because iSight was not recognized (did not show up under USB in System Profiler).
Do I have some sort of hardware issue? I don't think it's normal to have to regularly reset the SMU?
    Thanks

I don't think anyone here will be able to definitively determine that you have a hardware fault from your description of two issues. If you're concerned, I would call AppleCare Support the next time you have an issue. Make sure your problem gets a case number and keep track of the people you talked to and the date(s)/time(s). If you continue to have odd issues then you can build a case with AppleCare Support to get your MacBook in for repair or replacement.
Personally, I think you've encountered two issues that could happen due to various reasons and they may have not been connected at all. Besides the trackpad update, there haven't been any Mac OS X updates to address general issues that everyone might be experiencing with their new MacBooks. So, I wouldn't worry about it too much but keep your software up-to-date an call AppleCare Support when you have a problem so it gets recorded.

  • Going away for a month with no Macbook

So, I'm going away for a month to Scotland/Europe and not able to take my Macbook Pro (13", late 2010 model, snow Leopard 10.6.8) because last time I took it, it broke and had to be fixed and I was only able to cause it was under warranty. So, I'm going to shut my Macbook down and I've heard things like put the battery down to 50% or whatever. I want to come back to this working cause I'm afraid to take it with me incase it breaks, though I'm pretty sure it broke cause I accidentally left it on sleep for 2 weeks, but is there anything special I should do or will me shutting it down at 100% battery be enough? Thanks!

Ideally, a place where it is room temperature (68º to 75º F.) If you have air conditioning then set the AC temp to around 80º. That's what I set mine at when we are gone for long periods of time. Seems to be OK for all of my computers including several notebooks. Modify accordingly if you away during the winter months. If your home is not air conditioned (my condolences ) then some place dark is usually good.
    Apple's recommendation for storage is
    Storage temperature: –13° to 113° F (–24° to 45° C)
So, if you keep within those extremes you should be OK.

  • Yellow macbook fix time?

    Hi all!
I've called Apple and they said that they'll change the part of my macbook thats changing yellow. The two reps I talked to were both very helpful and did not hesitate in giving me a solution so I figure I am not the only person whos called in.
They told me it would take approx. two weeks to get it done: I call them, they send me a box, I send it back with the macbook inside, they fix it, they send it back. I'd like to know how long it took for other people to get their macbook back STARTING from the phone call to apple to request the repair. Anybody got it under two weeks? One rep. said its 3-5 business days.
I'd like to know cause I have to plan my visit to the states accordingly.
Thanks all, you guys are the best! As a new mac users I've overcome any and all problems thanks to these forums
    All the best
    Rob

I would like to suggest an addition idea. Below is a message I typed up which I think you might want to consider. By the way, I really enjoy my MacBook. Best little computer I have had in years.
    ARCHIVED MESSAGE BELOW:
I've been blessed by having a MacBook without the staining. But, I can see where my palm has rubbed back and forth. It is unique in the nature of the design as to how this MacBook causes your palm to rub, RIGHT THERE. The plastic is going to wear and get dirty. I generally wipe this area down with some handiwipes daily.
Well, A company named Marware sells cases and shields, been referenced here before. I have tried the Invisible Shield, ShieldZone, etc., stuff and just didn't like it. But, Marware... wow. It is simply great. It cleans well, has a slight adhesion so it can stick to the MacBook, but yet can be removed. Plus it comes with a waaaay cool keyboard protector so that when you close the LCD, the keys won't touch the LCD screen.
This is definitely a product I'm pleased with. The wrist landing zones are protected and the feel of the product, a soft PVC leather, gives a feel of "elegance".
Now, you KNOW that because of the style of this MacBook, YOU are going to have problems with the palm rest area, staining or no staining. Even those who have had the plastic replaced via warranty is going to have a problem. The style is just not right for hands that rub back and forth on the plastic surface.
Griping here is not going to solve it. We gotta dance around the problem and I think Marware is a good way of doing it.
This is a great computer. Actually, it has been years since I have had so much fun on a computer. But the case's style-over-fuction design is not one of its better qualities.

  • Macbook Discoloring, Send to Apple or Go to Store?

Are there any advantage as to sending my Macbook to Apple, or bring it into the Store. My macbook has the discoloring issus,
I heard people who send in their macbook get their logic board replaced, Will the Store do that as well?

i took my discolored macbook to the apple store, and i'm glad i did. they happened to have a replacement generation 2 keyboard/bezel at the store. so i gave them my macbook and it only took a couple of hours for them to put it in. i'd go during a workweek. get an appointment for first thing in the morning. you may be able to get it back that day... much better than sending it off and being without your computer for a week or more.

  • Week 29 Macbook Discoloration

I have a macbook that I got about two weeks ago. On the sides of the trackpad, where my palms rest when I'm typing, there's these grayish discolored spots forming. Now, I used to have a windows laptop, and I know this happens, but that only happened to me after about a year or so of use, not two weeks. Is Apple still resolving this issue, and is this an applecare call or a trip to the apple store, which for me is about an hour and half drive. If it's a quick replacement, I can deal, otherwise it doesn't seem worth sending in or dropping off the macbook for any length of time.
Checking for some info before I have to go see someone about this. It really is a minor issue because it is purely cosmetic, but for a new laptop, this shouldn't be a problem. I had thought getting a macbook now would make a difference, thought they would have done something about this.
    Thanks

  • Pictures of Macbook discoloration?

I've seen lots of topics complaining about the discoloration on the white Macbooks. I'm wondering, is this happening to ALL macbooks?
Also, does anyone actually have/would take some pictures of the discoloration so we could see just how bad it is?

I don't have any disoloration at all.
If this were a widespread issue, you'd see 1001 posts about it...plus, if it did happen, Apple would exchenage it for you. Just take it back within the first day or two (or they may think you did something to it).
Don't worry about it, just buy a MacBook if you want one.

  • My macbook air doesn't start after being for 2 months off, My macbook air doesn't start after being for 2 months oof

My macbook air doesn't start after being for 2 months off? What can i do?

Plug it in and leave it on the charger for about 5 minutes then try to turn it on. If that doesnt work, contact apple and have it sent out for repair or take it to your local apple store. they will probably cover it for free if no physical damage has been done.

  • Is it normal for an 8 month old 2011 macbook Pro to be down to 92% of original charge on 256 cycles?

My MBP is only 8 months old and is showing that the battery capcity is down to 92% of its orginal state in 256 Charge cycles.
    Is this normal?
I read on the Apple site that the battery should last to 80% after 1000 charges

You can certainly contact Apple about it, but unless and until the battery capacity falls below 80% of its original capacity before it's been cycled 1000 times, Apple is likely to tell you that it's within specifications — which in fact it is.
