6 TB of Public Folder Data to move from 2003 to 2010...I need to isolate content replication

I have replicsation working but it is going across the default SMTP connector. I want to isolate Public Folder Content replication so it does not clog up or slow delivery of standard messages. I created a 2nd RG with the source and target servers but content
still appears to go over the first hub server.....any help would be greatly appreciated...
thanks

Hi,
I recommend you increase the cost on the first RG connector to prevent traffic through this connector. Then please check if traffic will go through the second HUB server.

Belinda

  • Replication of Public Folder data from Exchange Sp1 to Exchange SP2

I have one Exch 2010 SP1 server and I am migrating to another Exch 2010 SP2 server.  I am looking to migrate the old public folder data to a newer public folder database on the SP2 server.  I have gone into Public Folder Management and added the
new server as a replication partner in properties of the folder, under "Replicate content to these public folder databases".  After doing this, I don't see any replication occurring from the 2 servers.  I turned on diagnostic logging on
both and I don't see any errors being created, just seem like nothing is happening.
What should I look for to troubleshoot this further?
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi JoeyC,
From your description, I would like to clarify the following things for troubleshooting:
    1. Make sure that Mail flow is working between two servers.
    2. Please refer to the following article to confirm that the configuration is right.
    Configure Public Folder Replication

What's more, here is an article about scripts to move public folders to a different database or server for your reference.

  • Mails lost in Sent Items since migration from 2003 to 2010

Since we have migrated almost all mailboxes from 2003 to 2010, we have a few (yet!) users that complain that Sent Items are missing. For example we have a user that says that the Sent Items older than 20/1/2014 are missing. So mails older than 2 weeks. All
users with similar problems, report that they also miss all mails previous from a certain period on. Like they are 'neatly' being archived/deleted.
I was thinking of the retention policies, but since I did not touch this area yet, since I am not familiar yet with this, I can't imagine that there is a default retention that just deletes mail older than 2 weeks. I certainly don't hope so. Where and how
can I check this? I would like to solve this asap before others users are going to report this as well!
    Thanks in advance!
    Olaf

    Hi,
According to your description, emails are deleted without any archive and retention policy.
To narrow down the cause, I’d like to recommend the following troubleshooting:
    1. Check if there is other retention policy:
    Get-RetentionPolicy | fl name, RetentionPolicyTagLinks
    Get-Mailbox AccountName | fl RetentionPolicy
    2. Check if the Managed Folder Assistant service is working well
    3. Check whether there is Event ID 9017 and 9018 in application log.
    4. Please use MFCMAPI Tool to check the "PR_MESSAGE_DELIVERY_TIME" and "PR_CREATION_TIME" properties on the items that should be removed.

  • How do I export public folder data from inactive exchange server?

I have migrated from SBS2003 (old) to SBS2008 (new)
Used migration wizard / answer etc...  All went well, expect for the public folders; which failed.
Question: How do I retrieve the public folder information from the OLD (inactive) server and import it to the NEW server?
The OLD server has been removed from the domain. I have backups of the OLD server and its original hard drive; where the public store info is located.
I tried PDDAVAdmin.exe; did not work for me.
    All help is greatly appreciated.

    Hi Amit,
I did as Zoltán said; searched the Internet for edb recovery tools and found a number of companies and Software Products which might help. I also considered your option as well but I have limited experience with building a recovery server and it sounds time consuming.
Our office is small we have 10 users; we keep contact lists in the public folders. I want to restore the contact lists from the inactive source server to the active destination.
I believe the process is called "rehoming" (from the web -- "In a Windows environment, rehoming is the process of moving public folders from one Exchange server to another. It involves the creation of a replica of the public folders on the target destination server, waiting for replication to complete, and then removing the public folders from the original source server.")
    Background:
We have two servers FHHSERVER (the source, SBS2003) and FHHSERVER2 (the destination, SBS2008).
I used the SBS2008 migration wizard. The important stuff in the exchange database transferred ok; all emails, schedules, tasks, notes, etc. Everything appeared to work; including public folders.
Microsoft allows a 21 day grace period to complete the migration. I believed the migration was successful so on the 21st day, I followed Microsoft’s instructions and demoted the source server, removing it from the domain.
    That’s when the trouble started….
Unknown to me; the public folders remained on the old source server. I did not detect this problem since, during the 21 day migration grace period, the destination server was using the old source server to replicate public folders. As long as the old source server was active, eveyone could open public folder contact lists. After the source server was demoted, the destination server lost its replicate and now our users cannot access that information.
Another problem is that the inactive server is n o longer licensed and the Exchange console cannot connect to its stores.
It would seem to me that this problem should be relatively simple to fix. I need some way to open the public folder stores and export the contact lists. I’m not even sure where the public folder database is located on the hard drive.
I hope this explains the situation in greater detail and that you may be able to offer some insight on how I might resolve this issue.
Oh, I also tried using EXMerge but cannot seem to make it work either. <http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=429163EC-DCDF-47DC-96DA-1C12D67327D5&displaylang=en>

  • Folder of edits move from 3.6 to 4.2

I have a folder in Lightroom 3.6 that I edited after I had already moved to LR 4. All of my actual image files are on an external hard drive. The folder of edits in question is not in my LR 4 catalog. What is the best way to move that folder with all the edits and virtual copies from 3.6 to 4 and then link the edits to the images on the external drive? thanks!

    Let's try this
In LR 3.6, select all the photos and virtual copies in the desired folder
File->Export as Catalog (NOT File->Export) and save to whatever location you want. Do not click "Include Negatives".
In LR 4, File->Import from Catalog, and point the dialog box to the export from the previous step.

  • Mailbox move from 2007 to 2010 causes performance problems on the 2007 box AFTER the move

I'm having a problem where moving a mailbox from our 2007 Exchange server to our 2010 Exchange server is causing clients that are still on the 2007 server to lock up, sometimes for up to 20 minutes.  This all happens maybe 5 minutes *after* the mailbox
move has completed - during the move we see no problems.
I start seeing events 5015, 5016, and then 10025 on the 2007 box and that's when users start complaining of Outlook locking up and emails going to Outbox.
If I do this off-hours like at night or on weekends I don't see the problem, which I'm sure is because there are far fewer clients connected.  We do not use cached exchange mode for a variety of reasons but mainly because our document management software
    doesn't play nicely with it.
I am leaning toward the disk structure of our 2007 server.  They are fast (15k SAS) but arranged in a RAID-5 which isn't ideal, but which keeps up fine in all other cases.  What is happening post-move that makes for so much disk activity?  I
thought maybe if I moved a good chunk of users off the 2007 box off-hours it might make daytime moves more possible, but I just tried again and it all locked up just the same.
    The details:
    Exchange 2007 SP3 (15k SAS disks, 2x quad core Xeon E5345, 16GB RAM)
Exchange 2010 (VMware with 4 virtual cores, 16GB RAM, storage on EqualLogic SAN)
Clients are almost exclusively Outlook 2010 on Win7, though a handful of 2007 users remain.
We have about 240 users total, about 100 of which have moved to the 2010 system.
Thanks for any suggestions.  I am stumped at this point.

    Hi,
Based on my experience, the issue generally happens during the migration the old server didn’t get pulled from Active Directory correctly .

  • Migrating Public Folders from 2003 to 2010 using Movereplicas script (Multiple runs?)

If you run the movereplicas script and an issue occurs that interrupts the migration, is there any harm in running the script multiple times until the replicas all appear to be moved?

There is not.  I have run it multiple times to make sure that everything comes over.  I usually wait until the following day but sometimes I migrate PFs and I have one or two that do not come over so I run it again.

  • Migrate from 2003 to 2010 - Receive Connector Authentication

I'm in the process of upgrading a remote office from Exchange 2003 to Exchange 2010.  Today, we changed the IP's on their firewall so that 2010 Hub Transport is handling mail.  Normally, I always create a new Receive Connector for receiving mail
from the internet.  I leave it as Anonymous users only and receive on internal IP of the server.
When I send an e-mail from the internet to a 2010 user, the mail is delivered fine, I'm assuming through the new "Anonymous" access connector I created.  However, when I send e-mail from the internet to a 2003 user, I get the following NDR
    with this error:
Reason: 530 5.7.1 Client was not authenticated
I was able to fix the problem by adding Anonymous authentication to the Default receive connector.  I'm wondering why this connector is being chosen over the Internet connector though, and why only for 2003 users?  Is it bad to leave the Default
Connector allowing anonymous access?  I've always left that connector alone and created a new Internet connector which has seemed to work in the past.

    Hi,
According to your description, exchange 2010 like a relay server, and relay the email to exchange 2003 when you send a email from the internet to a 2003 user.
As Ed mentioned, when you add the correct IP address where the traffic comes from on the receive connector, then it would ensure that the correct receive connector would be used.

  • Mirgrate from 2003 to 2010, mailbox migrates complete, but recipient mailbox still shows connected to 2003 server

Last night I migrated the last of my 2003 accounts to 2010 server. (we have successfully migrated 1000+ accounts with no issue).   This morning, I looked at the Move Requests and they all showed as Completed. Some users reported being unable
to open their mailboxes. When I look in EMC, the mailbox recipient shows still connected to the old 2003 mailbox. When I try to manually migrate them, I receive an error that the user is already in the target database.   (I have already cleared the
    move request)
Looking in Disconnected mailboxes - they do not show up.
2003 ESM shows them as disconnected mailboxes.
How can I get them to connect to the database in 2010?

  • Does upgrading from 2003 to 2010 require a verify database on reports?

    Hello,
I am working on upgrading an application from VS 2003 .Net 1.1 to VS 2010 .Net 4.0. I have installed the SAP Crystal Reports for Visual Studio 2010. After doing this I found that reports that had worked with .net 1.1 now do not work. When in the code, after loading a report and the printing
    such as
    Dim crDoc As New ReportDocument
    crDoc.Load(strTemplatePath & strFile)
    SetConnectionInfo(crCon, crDoc)
    SetParameters(crDoc, parameters)
    crDoc.PrintOptions.PrinterName = Me.strPrinter
    crDoc.PrintToPrinter(1, False, 0, 0)
When the document goes to PrintToPrinter i receive an error message like 'Error in file blahblah.rpt: The table could not be found'. If I do a verify database on the report  in question it will print correctly. However there are quite a few reports. Is a verify database expected after upgrading to .Net 4.0? Thanks for you help and have a great day!

    Hello,
Typically when moving to one version change it's not required but in your case CR 9 was the version in 2003 and lots of DB changes to both CR and the Db Client engines.
So yes in this case you should Verify the database. You can do this once using a test, save an update flag in the SummaryInfo page, same as in the Designer when you click on File SummaryInfo. You can read/write to the comments and then test if a SaveAs or Export to RPT format was done. This will update the RPT format and connection info. So if it's updated then simply setting the user name and password is all that is required or even less if you have enabled Trusted Authentication.
Also, now that you have updated to CR for VS 2010 I highly recommend you start using RAS rather than the CR Basic which uses the Engine. You can still use both but the Engine and it's functions are not updated. If any updates or features added it will always be in RAS.
Also highly recommended is to use the PrintOutputController to print your reports rather than using PrintToPrinter....

  • Public folder database guidelines

    hello.  thanks for the time.
I wanted to get some input and thought in regards to moving a public folder environment from exchange 2007 to exchange 2010. we are going to copy the files over using a 3rd party tool.  what i wanted to know is , is it possible to separate the public
folder traffic from Exchange 2010 mailbox traffic. also we have about 600GB of data in public folders. My thought was to have a dedicated public folder server in 2010.
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb397221(v=exchg.141).aspx#MailEnabled
this link provides a good intro and says that public folder emails are treated differently.
"Because mail sent to public folders is directed to the public folder database instead of to a mailbox in the mailbox database, Exchange
routes e-mail messages by using a method that's slightly different from the method used to route e-mail messages to a regular mailbox."
Does this mean you can dedicate a hub server for it as well? we use public folders heavily. unfortunately.
thanks for the time and effort.

thanks for the quick response. so just to clarify to add the Exchange 2010 server (in the same Exchange ORG) I need to run:
    \AddReplicaToPFRecursive.ps1 -TopPublicFolder “\” ServerToAdd <new server to replicate to>
What if I wanted to add only parts of the heirachy?  like only the finance folder?  and then move marketing and Technology
later? It's because we have about 500GB in public folder data. I know it's a lot but we are trying to cut out archived data slowly.
Also if we want high availability do I need to provide another 500GB of space on another 2010 server so it can hold a replica copy if the new 2010.  we plan on turning off the 2007 environment and would like to keep public folders in high availabilty.
2007 was good in that sense where it held mailbox clustered server for the public folder database?  2010 does not provide that, correct because of the DAGs?
thanks for the time and effort.

  • Can't complete public folder migration, 2010 to 2013

So I've been following both these:
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/jj150486(v=exchg.150).aspx
    http://www.msexchange.org/articles-tutorials/exchange-server-2013/migration-deployment/migrating-public-folders-exchange-2013-part2.html
I've locked the 2010 PFs, nobody can access them. I've removed the preventcompletion flag in 2013, resumed the migration all according to the steps.
    Get-PublicFolderMigrationRequest | Get-PublicFolderMigrationRequestStatistics -IncludeReport | Format-List
Shows no further activity any longer after some incremental stuff
    Get-PublicFolderMigrationRequest | Get-PublicFolderMigrationRequestStatistics
Shows StatusDetail: InitialSeeding and PercentComplete: 95% and its not moving.
I've tried proceeding and removing the prevention from servering the hierarchy flag on my mailboxes. But it makes no impact on anything. The hold for migration flag remains true and the migration is not finishing.
    What should I do?

Give it some more time.  I don't know how much Public Folder data you have, but once the initial sync is done, it has to copy over the deltas to the mailboxes.  I have seen this take some time.  As long as it doesn't say failed, I think
you are in good shape :)

  • Exchange Online (O365) and Exchange 2013 On-Premise, Public Folder issues?

    Hello,
I have recently migrated from Exchange 2010 to Exchange 2013 on premise (decommissioned the old server) and migrated my public folders to the new mailbox architecture found in Exchange 2013.
We are also hybrid setup with Office 365 and Exchange Online (AD FS and Password Sync). For our on-premise Exchange we use Split DNS.
What I am trying to do now is give my Exchange Online users the ability to see our on-premise public folder infrastructure however I am not having any luck in getting this to work.
On premise I have the "PublicFolderMaster" mailbox which is the Primary Public Folder Mailbox, and PublicFolderMailbox1 which is the secondary mailbox (where all the public folder data is).
How do I configure my Exchange Online to allow the users to see on-premise public folders? I tried..
    Set-OrganizationConfig -PublicFoldersEnabled Remote -RemotePublicFolderMailboxes PublicFolderMaster,PublicFolderMailbox1
In my O365 user's Outlook I see Public Folders, but when I try to expand it I get an error saying unavailable...
    What am I doing wrong?

Or must I follow all these steps in addition to the last step above?

  • Exchange 2010 Public Folder Rule

    Hi there,
i want my Public Folder called "costumers" to forward a Mail to a subfolder, if the message comes from the domain "example.com". yet i didn't find out how exactly such a rule is created. i tried the following:
But the Public Folder wont forward the Mail to "SPZ" in my case. If i set the "from" parameter to a single Email address like
[email protected] and the public folder receives a mail from this email address, the forwarding to "SPZ" works fine. So my question is, can i even use regular expressions in those Rules?
    Thanks for your help!
    Regards
    Dominic

    Hello,
Do you mean a costumer sends message to your employees, when an co-worker moves a costumer mail to the public folder "costumer", and then you use an outlook rule that moves the mail to the correct subfolder? If so, you need to create
multiple outlook rules on different outlook clients.
I want to know why an co-worker doesn't move a costumer mail to the correct subfolder directly.
Based on my known, I'm afraid there is no better way to reach your goal.
