60 FPS Project in CS3?

Hi all,
So, no doubt I'm new to all this.  I just bought a copy of Adobe Premiere Pro CS3.
I'm looking to make a super, super speedy slideshow.  I've already modified my settings so that each photo imported only takes 1 frame.  However, right now I'm only sitting at 29 fps.  I was wondering if there was any way that I could either...
a.) Download presets to allow me to create a new project at 60 fps.
b.) Use some .prpreset files that I found to create a preset with the ability to create a new project at 60 fps.
c.) Get another version of Adobe Premiere that allows this function.
Thank you in advance!
-Mike

You can't. You need FCP to work in a 59.94fps sequence. Conforming outside of FCE to reduce the frame rate can be done, or the media can be converted to 29.97.

  • 30 fps projects automatically become 25 fps when export a DVD from share menu

I shoot some video at 30 fps.  I made a project setting to match that.
My 30 fps projects becomes 25 fps when I make DVDs from FCPX share menu.
I thought it would make 29.97 DVDs but somehow FCPX makes PAL DVDs.
I tried different settings: all 23.98, 24, 29.97, 60 fps projects give me 29.97 DVDs when I share from FCPX.
Only 30 fps projects does not give me 29.97 but 25.
Do you know why that happen?

I am bit confused.  It is not easy to make 29.97 out of 30 fps yet let FCPX handle the frame rate change?
Of course we should have the right fps setting when we shoot.  I guess it is still best option at this stage to set FCP project 29.97 and let it do the math.
If, though, I am okay to have my source video slow down tiny bit, then using Compressor for frame-to-frame conversion will assure the best quality?

  • Convert 24 fps to 25 fps project.

I have accidentally made some recordings in 24 fps.
The need for a film which should also be on television - in a 25 fps project.
So the problem is that I have both 24 fps and 25 fps in the same project. it gives strobe flashes. Is there a way I can avoid it?

Personally, I'd say you're massively hosed...
You could try optical flow retiming - available in Motion/Shake/Compressor to generate new clips with the proper frame rate. But that takes a lot of time. Can you post an example of the flashes you're talking about?

  • Downgrade Premiere Pro CS4 project to CS3 possible?

Is it possible to export a CS4 Premiere Pro project in such a way that it will open in CS3? Is there any neutral format such as InDesign's .inx format?

    Tam,
I rather doubt that you can do a direct transfer of a CS4 Project to CS3. Your only course might be to Export your CS4 to DV-AVI and Import that file. It will have all of edits in place, so you will not have the individual Clips. You can use the Razor, to "create" individual Clips, but you will NOT have Handles on these. You could eliminate all Transitions and then extend each individual Clip to include Handles, but you'll then need to re-set all Ins-n-Outs.
Now, you might get lucky. Whiled doing some testing for another user, I Opened his CS3 Encore file in Encore2, without even thinking - dang if it didn't work to about 90%. I think it would have worked 100% had I had his Assets and exact folder structure, but that was not what we were testing.
You might just try Importing the .prproj file into CS3 and X-your fingers. As I started, I would NOT expect this to work, but who knows. If it does, even to a degree, please report back, as this is a common question with each new release.

  • Loading a CS4 project into CS3

My son has CS4 and I have Premiere CS3. How can I load one of his saved CS4 projects into CS3? There doesn't appear to be a "save as" feature in CS4, nor an export option.
Any help would be much appreciated. I'm in the middle of a big project and I don't want to upgrade midstream.

Thanks for the response, but it seems a little short-sighted on Adobe's part: even Microsoft allows you to save documents in previous versions so others can read them. Anything for an upgrade fee, I guess.

    In theory you can't.
    Premiere is not downwards compatible.
Some have opened CS4 in CS3 or CS5 in CS4 with non or basis effects.
But you can always give it a try, make sure you have a backup

  • Can't open 1.0 projects in CS3 (no subtitles)

After working with Encore 1.0 for forever and a day, I finally got PPro CS3 with its accompanying Encore (running on Windows XP SP2). But I cannot open any Encore 1.0 projects. Trying to open my current project, I get this complaint:
    >Encore cannot open Encore 1.0 projects. Open and save the project in Encore 2.0 or earlier, then try again.
    A search turned up
this Knowledge Base article. It claims the reason is subtitles, but I have no subtitles in this project (in fact, I have only used subtitles once ever, and this was definitely not that project).
As a test, I tried opening various older project files. In a couple instances Encore CS3 gave the same error as above, but most of the time it simply crashed, with the following "details":
    >AppName: adobe encore.exe  AppVer: 3.0.0.268  ModName: sonicauthorcore.dll
    ModVer: 3.0.0.268  Offset: 004e4e20
The message or crash would not occur immediately, but after the several-second process of "preparing transcode settings", etc. that occurs in a small window with a progress bar, if you know what I'm talking about. So it seems like it doesn't like something about the assets it is processing, but I don't know what, because all these projects are different, and most were started from scratch as fresh projects, with video and menus created independently from other projects (some menus created within Encore 1.0, others using Photoshop CS2; some video streams brought in as AVI, others as MPEG2-DVD).
Ironically, if I try to open the only project I have that actually
does have subtitles, Encore CS3 is the most civil, and in theory it might even successfully open the project. It says:
    >This project contains subtitles in an older format. Opening the project will convert the subtitles to the new format, but the subtitles will no longer be compatible with the version of the software used the create them. Would you like to continue opening the project and perform this conversion?
I chose not to "continue" until I know more about why Encore is crashing, because it might convert the subtitles and then crash! But one unique thing about that project (besides the existence of subtitles) is that the solitary video stream is a VOB file from a DVD previously burned, rather than the more typical MPEG2 or AVI. I have no idea if any of this information matters, but I'm telling you everything I know.
Does anyone know what might be causing the problem, particularly with non-subtitled projects, and/or a solution or workaround? I own no version in between 1.0 and CS3, so I can't save it 1.5 or 2.0, which is the only other action suggested by the KB article besides removing my non-existent subtitles...

    In followup:
This is a distillation of the process for converting a Project from a previous version of Encore to a newer version remotely.
The problem: a user had Encore 1.0 and needed to get the Project into CS4. They did not have any intermediate version of Encore. The Encore 1.0 Project was shipped to me, to convert it in Encore 2.0, so that CS4 could deal with it. Because the computers were a few thousand miles apart, we had to do more than just Open the Project in Encore 2.0. This would be all that would be required if the versions were on the same machine, or over a LAN and just in different offices.
The entire folder structure is required. The Project will be in a folder (Ill call this the Mother Folder) with the .NCOR file, and then a series of Child Folders below in the hierarchy. The exact names and the exact folder hierarchy is extremely important, as is the placement of some of the necessary files. The name of the .NCOR and the first level of Child Folders must match exactly. The structure is the one we see with each Encore Project:
    Mother Folder with .NCOR
Child Folder Level One (same exact name as .NCOR with the
    two files:
    i ProjectPrefs2.xml &
    i ProjectWorkspace.xml
Child Folder Level Two Cache with file mlf.cache.v7"
    Child Folder Level Two Sources
Child Folder Level Three Menus with Menu .PSD files
In this case, the folder structure, with Menus and all files, except Video and Audio Assets were shipped to me. All Transcode files, etc. were also omitted.
Once the .NCOR (older version) has been Opened in the later version, a Save_As will create a new Project with folder/file structure. This entire structure needs to be in place on the machine with the newer version to allow it to be Opened. In my case, this complete structure was archived in WinRAR as a .RAR file and shipped out.
All of this is probably very obvious to most others. Again, if one is working on the same machine, or a LAN connected set of machines, it is a lot easier. Im just listing the steps and requirements, should Encore Projects be Opened on remote machines, whether for testing or for conversion.
[I just hope that the formatting of this doesn't get "pear-shaped," when posted]

  • High fps footage in Low fps project - Conform Speed

Hi Y'all.  I'm using the GoPro3 and it shoots beautiful 1080p60.  I hope to preserve the integrity of this footage and make it work the most for me with slow-motion in a 30fps project.
    1) What frame rate should I export my videos for web viewing, 30fps or 60 fps?  Does YouTube or Vimeo have preferred frame rates, or do they take whatever file you have and force it to, say, 30fps?
(For my taste I think that 30fps looks good, i've seen some new TV shows that incorporate 60fps and it looks off to me.. TOO crisp or something, anybody else notice that / feel that way?)
    2) If I bring a 60fps clip into a 30fps project, it still retains it's 60fps information correct?  If I'm copy and pasting these clips between different projects with different frame rates, i'm not affecting the clip itself, am I?
    3) Is there any difference between a) using the 'Conform Speed' command and b) simply retiming 60fps footage in a 30fps project to 50% retime?  I wonder if there's any other magic behind the 'Conform Speed' feature that I should be aware of.
Thank you for all your help.
    Lovin' FCPX!

    3.  So what is different between these two actions:
    A) conforming 60fps footage to a 30fps project and
    B) retiming 60fps footage to 50% in a 30fps project
Is conform simply a mathematical scaling function for retime based upon clip/project framerates (in which actions A and B would have the same result)?
Or do you know if there more too the conform function that i'm not anticipating?

  • Opening older Premiere project with CS3 - no sequence! Like it was deleted

I am not sure what exact version of Premiere was used but I think it was 6.0 or 6.5. Very simple, few minutes and single time line/sequence.
When this is opened in CS3 it opens the project normally (asks for ".prtl" or title files), shows the Bin with all the files but there is no sequence - no edited content what so ever. The whole thing is gone.
The .prproj file has over 170 XML tags linking the .avi files and the rendered videos. I have tried to create new project with same aspect and PAL and then "import" but it does not give the sequence/time line which is missing.
    Any ideas?

  • How to migrate projects from CS3 to CS4? (Version Cue)

First of all, I tried to follow the steps here by 'Markus_Jasker' http://forums.adobe.com/thread/313661?tstart=30.
We are primarily a windows shop, with a small group of Mac artists. We have an Xserve with Version Cue 3.
All the artists use CS3. One of the artists upgraded to CS4. The user primarily cares about his InDesign files.
We were unsure whether the CS3 people could see the Version Cue 4 server on the Xserve, so we grabbed an extra
G5 lying around (Mac OS X Version 10.4.11) and installed Version Cue 4 on it.
Even though I turned off both VC Servers, and copied the 'com.adobe.versioncue.migration_3.1.2' folder from Version Cue 4
to Version Cue 3 and restarted both servers, I still get the message "unable to connect to Version Cue CS3 Server etc etc."
The Xserve is on 10.5.1.x and the G5 is 10.5.2.x with a 255.255.252.0 mask.
I am primarily a windows admin, so I need some help!

    Hi,
It has been a while since I have had access to sun one studio 5. If I remember correctly, it was based on Netbeans 3.5.1. It turns out the Sun Java Studio Enterprise 7 release was based on Netbeans 3.6. Both of these Netbeans versions used mounted filesystems rather than the new project system. There is a migration guide from JSE 7 to JSE 8 available:
    http://developers.sun.com/prodtech/javatools/jsenterprise/reference/techart/jse8/intro_migration_jse8.html
I think this migration guide will apply to your situation as well.
Let me know if this helps.

  • Possible to have a 23.97 fps scene in 29.97 fps project?

Hi. I have a quick question.
I have a HD 29.97fps project Im working in, and I have imported a clip that is 23.97 fps, and when I encode it all, that short clip is jumping, as it probably should, cause I didn't change any settings on it.
My question is: can I somehow change it to 29.97, so it can flow without "skipping/jumping"?
    Thank you for any answer.

Yeah, I did it every time I brought SD footage (basically news clips because my flicks based on a real serial killer) into my main movie timeline which is 108024p dvcprohd I did it that way. Also everytime I shot slow-mo stuff 720p(which as you know can only be shot 720 with the HVX) I made a new sequence for it then dropped the sequence into my main timeline. I also recreated some news footage that I shot 720 60p. Did the same, made a new sequence matching the footage then dropped it in the timeline.
The whole reason they changed Premiere to use sequences isn't so you can have multiple projects open, it so you can mix different media in one timeline using multiple sequences.
The confusing part about this is your sequence is basically a nest, but it's not exactly the same as using the 'Nest' feature. When you nest a few clips you can't change the project settings. When create a new sequence you can change the settings but it's still a nest.
Actually as far as I can tell CS4 treats project files(PR and AE), dynamic link files, nested sequences and regular 'Timeline Sequences' all the same. You just drop it from the project window into the timeline.
I see if can get part of a scene online to show you, but most of the nested stuff is towards the end of the movie and it would spoilerish.
We just made a deal for the composing, sound design, foley and re-recording (final mix) today so it'll be 2 months before I can start posting footage online.
