60 fps video editing

Is it possible somehow to edit your 60 fps video from GoPro Hero 3 on the ipad 4? Or do all editing apps have 30 fps output?
Want to fully use my go pro!
Thanks.
Casper

Make a copy of the sequence, change the settings to 1920x1080
Remove attributes>basic motion.  Now yout 1080 footage will be the proper size and you'll have to scale up the 720 to fit.
This is the kind of stuff you could have easily resolved by doing your homework before shooting.  It's called pre-production.

  • What is the best set up for video editing?

What is the best computer? The best software? The best external storage? The best ram? 3D editing? Everything!!!!!!
Running full HD and 720p at 60 fps videos. Clips ranging from a few seconds to 10-30 minutes.
    Cost isn't an issue.
What is the best set up, not the most excessive. If it doesn't need to be there or it isn't greatly needed I would like to know. This is looking at the production aspects, not the camera and such. What is the best plug in for slow motion? Pros and Cons of the set up?
I would greatly appriciate everyones input in this. Thank you so much.

That is a hard question to answer.. Nothing is best for everyone... However if i am to generalize it I would put it this way.. If you want to cut everything from a short promos to hollywood pictures..
A high end windows pc (only cause mac pro hasn't been updated in ages)
Avid Media Composer with Nitrus DX
    Two monitors
    Broadcast monitor
    HD Deck
    pimping 5.1 speakers
    A good mixer
You are looking at over 70,000 or 80,000, could even approach even more.. HD decks run atleast 15k.
If price is not an issue then there you go....
However this is not realistic for most people nor best solution by no means... I run a macbook pro with Avid (as primary) Final Cut 7, Final Cut X (for practice, didn't have to use it for a job yet), and Premiere (just in case)
I am a final cut child who grew up on it and love it however everything I am doing in last few years is on AVID...
    Have a second monitor..
I am very portable and rest of the gear I usually get where ever I work at.. I am looking into getting a good broadcast monitor connected with AJA thunderbolt..
Like I said this is very open question, there is no (BEST) it all depends what you will be doing.. If you get AVID (which can do everything, however is cluncky as **** and counter intuitive) but you are only cutting wedding videos and short format stuff, it would be an overkill galore.. Just get FCP X in that case... Simple, easy, one app...
Be more specific and you will get clearer answers..

  • Real time video editing, is possible?

Hi to all, first of all thanks for reading this post.
I would want to know if it`s possible to apply some effects (mostly twixtor, some warp stabilizer, color correction) and see the result (maybe at lower resolution, 1/2,1/4 resolution) without rendering, but fluid (to verify the image goes accordingly with the audio, to see the speed change is adecuate with twixtor, etc...)
I have a laptop  that is supposed to be powerful: i7-4800mq, 16 GB of RAM, GTX765M, and (maybe it´s the reason I don´t see the expected result) a 7200rpm hard disk (SATA 3GB/s, with 64 GB SSD catching mSATA)
I use video primarily recorded from a gopro 3 black, and use premiere pro cs6, after effects. 1080, 60 fps.
I want to change my computer because I have to do a lot of editing of short videos, lot of twixtor, and can´t wait to renderize every time I change something and the bar goes from green/yellow to red.
    I would want to know:
-if this is normal, with my computer
-If you where to going to buy a computer, instead of asking which component you should buy (of course you can), what do you think about these two:
    option 1:
    i7-4790K 4.0Ghz
MSI GeForce GTX 980 Twin Frozr V OC 4GB GDDR5
Motherboard: MSI Z97 Gaming 9 ACK
    Hard disk:
    Seagate Barracuda 7200.14 3TB SATA3 64MB
    Samsung 840 Evo SSD Series 500GB SATA3 (250GB x2 in raid 0)
    Kingston HyperX Savage DDR3 2400 PC3-19200 16GB 2x8GB CL11
    price: around 2100 euro
    option 2:
    i7 4790K
    2x GTX760 2GB GDDR5
    Motherboard: GA-Z97X-SLI
    Hard disk:
    - 2x HDD 1TB 7200rpm Seagate ST1000DM003
    - 2x SSD 120GB Kingston V300
    16GB DDR3 1600MHz (2x8GB) HyperX Fury Blue Series HX316C10FK2/16
    price: around 1600 euro
I know I can use proxyes but I think proxyes with less resolution give problems with warp stabilizer and with less fps give problems with twixtor.
Do you think I will be capable to do real time video editing with these computers? Thank you very much!

....read about your laptop....the good, the bad, and the ugly.
...ugly first : you are right ...16 GB is the max memory that can go in your machine.....I believe that will hamper performance  with some heavy timelines, but, not sure. My laptop could take 32GB, but, 2 of the 4 slots are inaccessible, so I wound up with 24GB. I have seen the memory usage swing up to 20GB during certain tasks, but, not most of the time.
...good : your CPU and GPU are FINE.....even BETTER when you over clock the GPU "memory clock" with the free "MSI Afterburner " utility...I go "plus 903 Mhz"
...the BAD : its NOT hopeless, however. Your CURRENT storage configuration is a DISASTER !!!....a definite bottleneck which will cause huge problems with Premiere Pro.  The GOOD news is that it can be EASILY fixed. RIGHT NOW, you have a single 7200 rpm HDD with EVERYTHING on it and a SMALL mSATA SSD acting as a "Cache" for the hard drive, to help speed it up. That is effectively having just ONE drive, and that is below spec for PPro, which needs TWO separate drives as a minimum....( with the now way higher speeds of SSDs, some argue 2 drives are NOT really needed, if ONE is fast enough....but, thats not altogether true).
Easy solution : replace the current mSATA 64 GB SSD with a crucial M550 mSATA SSD, ( ONLY Samsung Pros or Crucial M550s are recommended for use in machines doing video editing...there are reasons for this.....the 550s are WAY cheaper and only SLIGHTLY behind in performance.....hardly noticeable. ( $150 for 256GB, $250 for 512GB at B and H )
If you have the Windows disk, you can do a fresh Windows install on the new, fast SSD. If no disk, just CLONE your existing HDD "image" onto the new SSD...( provided it will FIT !! ) . Now the new mSATA will be your FAST boot drive !!!.....reading and writing at over 500MB/sec instead of the SLOW HDD running at 120MB down to 60 MB/sec with all the LATENCY and FILL degradation !! On this mSATA, you would have OS,programs, and Windows page file ONLY....( although if you get the 512GB SSD, you can experiment using the extra space for all cache files, previews, and exports).
NEXT.....take out the 7200rpm drive...replace it with another 2.5 inch Crucial M550 SSD !!!.....go all the way up to 1TB if you want !!, ( $450), or, at least 512GB. Place ALL other files here
Using these two new SSDs will MASSIVELY improve your performance with PPro......but WAIT !!!.......THERE'S MORE !!!
You have OTHER storage options as well. If you really want to go nuts, you can REMOVE the DVD drive, and use THAT SATA port for a THIRD SSD drive. I have read where someone used an M.2 drive as the boot drive, then created a RAID 0 with the now TWO 2.5" SSDs in the machine....( your BIOS allows it,I think) That would give you a huge "D" drive volume running at OVER 1GB/sec. for serving up all your media. project files and all else. There are plenty of "how to" videos for YOUR machine on youtube, as well as forums like "notebook review" where owner's describe upgrades they've done.
Finally, you have a "mini-display port " AND a HDMI 1.4 socket. On MY laptop , I have the EXACT same mini-display port connector, but, it is called "Thunderbolt". I have read that with THIS connector, "Thunderbolt" and "mini-display port" are INTERCHANGEABLE !!! What it REALLY is , is a high speed data connection that is FULL-DUPLEX, ( UNLIKE SATA which cannot write while reading and vice-versa). Your version is probably 1.1...like mine. The newer 1.2 displayport connection can handle 4K .  The 1.1 speed is actually about 8Gbits/sec, ( or, 1 GB per second BOTH WAYS). This means it MAY be possible to connect a high speed thunderbolt storage device to that port....I am NOT sure....but I think you CAN because the HDMI 1.4 port handles my 2560x1440p IPS monitor at full resolution...yours should ,too. However, the mini-display port  may be configured for video screens only without a "Thunderbolt" driver....I am not sure. Thunderbolt storage is expensive and not well developed yet.
You may ALSO us the USB 3 external port to get a decent speed for external storage. What I do is use a cheap $30 USB3 dock, that has both 2.5" and 3.5" slots in it. THEN, you can plug SSDs,or,HDDs in to it....changing them like "cartridges"....you will get up to 220MB/sec using SSDs in that, and normal 100-120MB/sec with a 7200rpm HDD.Its great for putting previews, cache files on....those are all easily recreated by premiere if ever lost or erased.
So, SPEED up your storage configuration and you should be greatly improved. I found an AWESOME 27" IPS monitor on sale for only $299 that has the WQHD 2560x1440p resolution that would be KILLER hooked up to your laptop, which would EASILY drive it. The pixel density is AMAZING......1440p videos look like 4k on it !!...that's ANOTHER option you have.

  • Video Editing feature in latest version of Photoshop CS6 does not exist/work. How do I fix this problem?

Hi everyone! I downloaded CS6 for a graphic design class that I was taking. I later found out that you could edit videos with the essentials portion of CS6 since it no longer has to be extended like in CS5. I went to import some videos from bridge and bridge would not allow me to do so. I also tried to open the files in Photoshop and I as I was looking at the type of files that I could open like quicktime files, wmv., mov., etc., I could not find anything relating to opening videos. The only thing that showed up were types of image files to open. Did I buy a faulty version of this program? Is there a way to get the video editing feature back on here or do I have to breakdown and buy Photoshop essentials separately?
    Thank you!

Try dropping the video file on CS6 it should open.  Maks sure CS6 is up to date. Version 13.0.6 Mac version 13.0.1.3 Windows Version 13.1.2 subscription. Also post you CS6 menu Help>System Info... Copy and paste here.  You can see  have the subscription version and use Windows 7....

  • Considering dumping my iMac for a PC used for DSLR video editing on Premiere CS6. Help!

So I edit mostly 1080p DSLR footage taken from my canon T3i camera. I purchased a 2011 (the latest model) iMac a little over a year ago, upgraded the RAM to 12GB and it has worked reasonably well. I purchased the base model for $1200 which has a quad core i5 processor, 512mb of video ram, and a measly 500gb hard drive. The past couple of days I have come to the realization that I only use Adobe Programs for graphically intensive work (premiere, after effects, etc). I originally bought my iMac for final cut, but FCPX SUCKS and I switched to Premiere CS6 which works like a dream. Anyways, I'm a senior in high school and do lots of video editing (going to major in video production in college). I'm likely going to differ college for a year and continue my video production business (pretty informal) as well as video production internships at a couple companies (so don't suggest that I get a laptop for portability, not an issue). I just shot an entire wedding with 2 DSLR's and the footage takes up over 20% of my hard drive which is unacceptable. This is very troublesome for me and has been clogging up my computer considerably. I have realized it would make a lot of sense to sell my iMac and purchase a PC that's not only faster, but has much more space. I was ideally looking to sell my iMac for $1000, and from that get a better and faster PC setup for my video editing. $200 would be allocated for a 24" 1080p LED 5ms Asus monitor (from newegg) which would leave $800 remaining for the PC. Ideally it'd be nice to have a little cash left over. Some things that sound appealing to me are: an intel i7 quad core proccessor at least 3.0+ Ghz,  16 GB of ram (maybe 8 to start), 1 GB of video RAM (here is where I'm stuck, my Imac had a Radeon 512mb video card in it, but I've heard premiere runs especially well with nVidia CUDA cards? Don't really know too much about this stuff.) I have no idea what type of card to get, and if I would even see a performance upgrade from my iMac. For storage I'd like at least 2TB of space, should I get two seperate 1 TB drives? One for boot and software and another for video files? Anyways, I assume I can benefit from selling my 2011 i5 iMac to get a faster PC equivalent at a lower price since I mainly edit videos (which is pretty graphically intense) from an HD DSLR camera. I've noticed premiere rendering times on my mac are starting to get pretty slow these days. Ideally it'd be nice to buy a desktop (already assembled) maybe from HP for around $600 (not including the monitor). I'm not completely against building a PC from parts (since I know a friend who can do it for me) I just need help figuring out WHAT exactly it is that I need and would benefit from.

  • Need Help Building a Graphic Design/Video Editing PC

Greetings everybody, my name is David, and I'm hoping to get a little assistance building a computer system either from scratch or from a couple of computers I have picked out.
I hope this that doesn't sound unrealistic but I only have around $600 in my budget to build a Graphic Designer machine. My intentions are to get a subscription to Adobe cloud so I would have access to all of Adobe CS6 products. (I won’t be using any of the Touch or Game developers applications.)
I would like to post two links to two machines that I picked out that are in my price range and would like some advice as to whether or not either one of these machines have enough processing power to be able to handle all Adobe CS 6 products.
I am aware that neither one of these machines have a Graphics Processing Unit (GPU) and that I would have to purchase one and add it. Which leads me to my first question; are the processors on either one of these machines capable of handling a GPU that is on the Adobe recommended list for processors?
And secondly, if I were to build a machine from scratch, is $600 enough to build a machine that is capable of handling Adobe CS6  products? When building a machine from scratch can you tell me what the minimum requirements are for a motherboard? Or are there any sites that offer specific advise for building PC's for graphic design?
I noticed after looking through the list of recommended graphics processing units that the majority of those are very expensive, in the $500-$3000 range. Can you please recommend a graphics processing unit that is in the $200-$300 range that would be fully adequate to handle Adobe products? Also what things do I need to take into consideration when building the machine from scratch to ensure that all my hardware is capable of handling Adobe CS6 products.
What do I need to add to either one of these prebuilt computers to make them Adobe-ready, If they are in fact worthy at all?
Here are the links for two machines that I have picked out:
    http://www.costco.com/HP-Pavilion-p6t-Desktop%2c-Intel%C2%AE-Core%E2%8 4%A2-i3-2130-3.4GHz.product.100010197.html
    http://www.costco.com/ZT-Desktop%2c-Intel%C2%AE-Core%E2%84%A2-i5-3470- 3.2GHz.product.100027436.html
I do realize that neither one of these machines have a graphics card in them. Can you tell by looking at the specifications on either one of these machines, whether or not your typical graphics card would fit inside the case If they are indeed worthy in all other respects?
And I realize that I mentioned that I only had $600 to spend, however if either one of these prebuilt machines are powerful enough in all other respects, I don't have an issue waiting a month or two before buying the graphics card and installing a little bit later.
Thank you in advance for your input.
    Sincerely,
    David

Your HP Costco link results in an out of stock message
Your ZT Costco link is very likely NOT expandable due to the VERY small power supply... so you will likely NOT be able to add a video card later
For PPro video editing you want an nVidia graphics adapter http://www.pacifier.com/~jtsmith/GPU.HTM and even the low power nVidia may be too much for that computer
Also, for video editing, you need a MINIMUM of 2 hard drives... and trying to edit HiDef video with an i5 will be a study of waiting for things to happen
As Harm said... a $600 computer will work for everything EXCEPT video editing
This DIY list is just about twice your budget, but it will work for video editing

  • New to Mac and to video editing...need some guidance, please

I've decided to make the switch and ordered a new 3Ghz 24" iMac. I chose a 1TB HD and 4G of RAM.
I want to do some photo and video editing (nothing professional, simply vacation photos and video). I'll be purchasing an HD camcorder later this year to replace my current one (non-HD). I currently have about 5000 photos and about 50 hours of unedited DV on DV tapes to begin to work with.
Any suggestions on the following would be much appreciated:
    1. Back-up: Should I use a 1GB Time Capsule or a 1 GB GTECH drive with Time Machine? I should mention that I plan on purchasing a MB or MBP later this year. Can I use a GTech HD as a NAS-like drive for both the iMac and the notebook?
    2. Should I partition the internal HD?
    3. Should I use a 'scratch disk' for video editing? If so, any suggestions for a particular size or model?
    4. Any suggestions for ease of transfer of my data from my PC (photos, iTunes library, mail, IE favorites, etc.)?
    5. Anything else you would suggest for a new Mac user?
Thanks very much for the help!!!

Backup - get BOTH the capsule and a separate HD. If you can only get one, personally I would get the non-TB disk so that I can drag the video files that I want onto it. the Capsule might backup other stuff (and slowly compared to the straight drive; get a FW 800 drive if you can, if not then FW 400 at least). I also think you meant TB not GB! Just make sure the DISK is from a good vendor (Seagate, Hitachi or Western Digital).
Partition - Nope; wastes space; you need contiguous space from my experience. Only do that if you really need to run Windows via Boot Camp (not recommended to run Windows at all!)
Scratch disk is absolutely recommended. Get the largest size one you can afford and separate out this from your backup disk. (Worst case, use a bit of the scratch disk as your backup, but also keep the same work files on your main hard disk so you at least have a physical duplicate somewhere). Yup, hard disks are gonna add up!
The above websites have some tips on transferring content from PCs; generally you can just burn stuff onto DVD and import them onto the Mac. That's pretty straight forward.
Suggestions IMHO - forget the Mighty Mouse and get another quality two button mouse. Also consider a Kensington Trackball. Get AppleCare warranty for all your hardware (for peace of mind). Triple check that your camcorder will be supported by iMovie '08. It might not be by Final Cut but at least you can get the files from iMovie into Final Cut. But Final Cut does support quite a lot of them already.
Introduce 10 other Windows people to the Mac. (This is what we do).
    Cheers!

  • Dual 17'' Displays and an NTSC Monitor for Video Editing

I am trying to hook up two 17'' apple monitors and an NTSC television monitor for video editing, but all I have on the back of my G5 tower is one ADC plug and one DVI plug. Any advice on how to make this work would be greatly appreciated.

If you run in anything other than the LCD's native resolution your graphics card will be resampling the image. This inevitably distorts the image as pixels must be discarded to create the display. Typically this softens the image.

  • Thinking to buy a new 15inch macbook pro retina display. Aim to use it for video editing and compositing... Is ıt worth for it?

Hi... I am a freelance filmmaker. Now I have 2008 model mac pro and I am thinking to buy a new macbook pro 15 inch retina display. Do you think its worth for it? I aim to use the macbook mainly for video editing, video compositing (after effects) and photo editing. My current old mac pro has 12 GB and the graphics card is ATI Radeon HD 2600 XT 256 MB (Yes I still use it). My main question is, do you think its better to move to macbook pro or upgrading the old one? Making it 32 GB of RAM and buy a new NVIDIA cuda capable graphic card? I dont have enough budget to make it together... Want to hear your suggestions...

I'm not sure, I've seen pro animators use MBPs but usually with a large monitor. Especially doing video editing, compositing and editing it might make more sense to upgrade the Mac Pro to an SSD as the boot drive. What kind of CPU setup is in your Pro?
    Check these out:
    mac pro SSD upgrades?
SSD as system disk while users folder + data on HDD

I deal exclusively with OWC. I'd call them and walk them through your system and see what they say.
What you do takes a lot of CPU, RAM, graphics and boot disk power.
I've upgraded my two computers to SSDs and the first thing I noticed was that Photoshop CS6 opens in 7 seconds vrs. 50 seconds when the application was on a HDD.

I have the G Drive 1 TB (GEN4 1TB) external drive purchased in 2010. I need to connect to my new MacBook Pro. I'm using the external drive for media storage of my video editing projects. Will a 800fw to thunderbolt adapter cable work? I understand that using a USB port connection is not fast enough for video editing. I read somewhere the G Drives don't connect well to MacBook Pro.

I doubt this can be relocated or moved so you might want to just repost in the macbook pro area.

Can you afford a new Thunderbolt case and cable? any case with FW800 is going to be slow 72MB/sec and less, and any new 1TB drive is capable of 75MB/s minimum up to 125MB/sec.
Thunderbolt storage can of course when setup properly reach 100's of MB higher using multiple drives.
Use what you have for a system backup or for secondary backup storage.
you might be able to take the drive - most cases allow you to open and swap drives - and use this:

  • Macbook Pro for major video editing

Hey guys. I'm hoping you can help me out. I'm looking to invest into a notebook because im having a baby and she will be taking my office space where I currently have my 2011 27in I5 imac set up. I do some pretty major video editing in Final cut pro x and  if i get graphics intensive ( Plugins, filters, effects etc) I get lag. I'm thinking of getting the 15in Retina MBP 2.7GHz Quad-core Intel Core i7, Turbo Boost up to 3.7GHz  and 16GB of ram.. What I need to know is will this machine be a great machine to do motion graphics and all my editing as a main system. I dont want to upgrade for years. I have a 24 in external monitor that i'd use along side it. But what im hoping for is a much smoother user experence while editing my videos other than the lag i get when I get intensive on the graphics currently. I need a definitave answer to this question to give me peace of mind with such a large purchase.  Thanks in advance.

If your going to use a laptop, your choosing the right one, get it built out with all the top shelf options. Large drive, max Apple RAM, top of the line everything.  Of course you realize, by te time you get it out of the box, it will be obsolete. (But that's true with any electronics;)  Congrats on your child.

  • How can i use original audio track in video editing for iPad 2?

I am struggling to understand how the video editing apps work for iPad 2, and specifically, to understand why all the editing apps I have looked at explain how you can make these terrific video clips by ADDING audio tracks from iTunes, or. From the audio library. I just want to use the original audio on the tape?  Is that so strange? Today I took a video clip of my daughter singing with her guitar. I wanted to shorten the length a bit, so I downloaded a couple of Visio editing apps. When I pulled the clip out of my Camera Roll storage into the video editing screen, there was no sound at all, though there were ways to add other sounds ( for .99cents) most frustrating is that nowhere, does Apple explain this.  The tutorials just show someone editing a video of their friends ( with no sound) And adding text and music, as if it's normal not to include the actual sound that originally accompanied the video clip.  Seems like i wouldn't be the only customer who would prefer to hear my daughters own voice Ina video of her singing, and would like thisexplainedbefore I started downloading editing apps. If it can't be done, couldn't This be posted?

I am not understanding your question, or your complaint, if it is a complaint.
I movies takes a video clip, including its audio track.
You have the option of mutimg it, or of importing some other sound from your music library, or narrating.  What other option do you want?

  • How to set up multiple hard drives for video editing?

I have recently purchase a new custom built PC for video editing with Premiere.
I have 3 seperate HDD's as I read on one of the forums that I should set up the hard drives as follows:
    one for OS/programs
    one for media
one for pagefile/scratch/rendors (these are new terms for me and I am not exactly sure what they mean)
If anybody can help walk me through the steps to set up/program my HDDs properly for editing video for adobe CS5, it would be greatly appreciated.
I do not know where to begin to set this up as recommended.
    Thanks in advance.

This video helped a lot. I have configured through my adobe software accordingly. Another user also suggested that I configure redirecting of my swap files through windows. I was unable to figure out how to do that.
    Is that necessary?
    Thanks.
    Your video definately helped.

  • Storage options for video editing

For video editing is it better to use an external drive as the scratch disc or use an internal (non-bootable) drive. I keep getting conflicting information. I would like to get an additional 500gb for my system (Mac Pro G5)but don't know what direction to go. Any advice/opinions would be greatly appreciated.

Well it all depends. Certainly, there's many good reasons to install a second internal drive. But I think it's better to use this as a "clone" of your startup drive. When I have a stable OS and application combo, I clone my startup drive to the second internal drive using carbon copy cloner (available at versiontracker.com). After cloning, I always try starting up from the clone to make sure everything's working. Then I can do a software update, install additional apps, and if my system goes south either from updates or some sort of corruption, I can quickly restart from the second internal drive and get back to work.
I've installed a sata card and bought a 5 bay sata enclosure from macgurus. Trays are about $ 25.00 and drives keep getting cheaper. I can quickly swap out drives and you can also stripe the drives if you need faster thru put.
I used to have as many as 11 firewire drives chained to my g5 and it worked great for years. But then things went seriously south and it took many months of troubleshooting to figure out the problem. It seemed like different brands of firewire drives did not play nicely together. I've been working with the sata enclosure for 2 1/2 years without any problems.
