60 gig iPod  with 4 hours of use on it froze in the middle of a song.

My battery is half full. (I'm an optimist). When I connect it to my computer my cpu goes to 100% capacity. Huh! I unplugged it and opened the iTunes program and followed the resetting directions. I have no response flipping the hold switch and then holding the menu button. I also tried doing this while wagging my tail. That didn’t help either.
Upon connecting my iPod again, I was able to get the message that my drive is corrupted. I have never sullied my virginal drive so quickly. This one only has about 4 hours of play on it. I am more than willing to take a dump and lose all 11 gigs of indigestible audio and video stuff if I can get the benefit of restoring my stream of music. Lowered expectations really can work - sometimes. I attempted to restore this unit. The "Restore" function does not work. It tells me that it failed. oh well!
This is my second failed 60 gig video ipod TODAY. The Apple tech support tells me they do not support my other Ipod that I attempted to run on Vista Ultimate on my new 64 bit HP Notebook Pavilion.
Anyone have any suggestions as to how I can restore this iPod. Now I understand why some electronic mfg’s put a pin hole in there equipment to reset it to mfg. specs, just in case the interactive software fails.
Anyone know where I can find a pinhole to stick my pinhead?
Anomie

Make sure the screen is clean, if that doesn't fix it you may have to restore it. You can do this by plugging it into your computer. Select the restore option. Make sure you have it backed up because the restore will erase everything, but once you sync it with iTunes you will be fine.

If you have all of the songs and videos still in your library I would recommend doing the restore of the iPod.

  • My MacBook has a grey screen with a folder and a question mark in the middle what does this mean?

My MacBook has a grey screen with a folder and a question mark in the middle what does this mean?

It means a valid system cannot be found. You need to reinstall OS X.
    If you have Snow Leopard:
Reinstall OS X without erasing the drive
    1. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your Snow Leopard Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior and/or Tech Tool Pro to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.
    2. Reinstall Snow Leopard
If the drive is OK then quit DU and return to the installer.  Proceed with reinstalling OS X.  Note that the Snow Leopard installer will not erase your drive or disturb your files.  After installing a fresh copy of OS X the installer will move your Home folder, third-party applications, support items, and network preferences into the newly installed system.
Download and install Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1.
If you have Lion or later:
Reinstall Lion, Mountain Lion, or Mavericks without erasing drive
    Boot to the Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
    Repair
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. If no errors are reported then click on the Repair Permissions button. When the process is completed, then quit DU and return to the main menu.
    Reinstall Mountain Lion or Mavericks
OS X Mavericks- Reinstall OS X
OS X Mountain Lion- Reinstall OS X
OS X Lion- Reinstall Mac OS X
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet
if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.

  • My iPod has a white screen.  After holding down the middle and the menu button it goes black, then back white, and then beeps twice but stays white.  It never shows the apple logo, just stays white - help!

My iPod has a white screen.  After holding down the middle and menu button, the screen goes black then back to white and beeps twice.  I have returned to original settings and resorted content to no avail.  I still have a white screen.  I have plugged it up and tried resetting again and again, still a white screen with two beeps - help.

I have the same exact issue. Fifth generation iPod Nano, blank screen, Restore had no effect. I'm running Windows 7 Home, with all software up-to-date. I suspect hardware damage. Any clarification would be appreciated. Thank you in advance.

  • Is it possible to raise the bit rate of songs higher than 256 on iTunes? If not what should i use or do to raise the bit rate of songs?

Is it possible to raise the bit rate of songs higher than 256 on iTunes? If not what should i use or do to raise the bit rate of songs?

Songs you rip from CD can have their bitrate increased to a maximum of 320Kbps from the iTunes preferences; alternatively, the default encoder can be changed to a lossless one. Songs from other sources have a fixed maximum bitrate.

  • IPod classic stops playing in the middle of a song

I've had the same iPod classic for seven years.  It still works very well, except that lately it stops playing in the middle of a song.  I have to hit "play" for it to start playing again.  Sometimes it will go for only ten seconds between stops, other times it will play just fine for several minutes before stopping.  The song that I'm playing doesn't affect the stops.  This only happens when I'm running, so I'm wondering if maybe the vibrations from running are what's causing it.
Does anybody have any suggestions for what I could do to fix this?  I've tried restoring the iPod, and that didn't affect anything.  I always keep the battery fully charged.

    - Try a reset. Nothing is lost:
Reset iPod touch: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.

  • Can I share my iPod with other devices using a USB *Switch*?

    Hello
I'm trying to design a set up that will allow me to share my iPod with my PS3, Xbox 360, and G4 Powerbook. I only need to use one sharing device at a time.
As of now I plan to have my 30Gb iPod Video, a USB Keyboard, and USB Mouse, running through a Belkin USB 2.0 Hi-Speed Hub. The hub will plug into a 4-way manual USB switch. (allowing me switch between the PS3, 360, and G4 devices)
My goal is to easily switch and stream content to any device from my iPod, as well as provide the switched device with instant access to the Keyboard and mouse plugged into the hub. Hopefully the hub will also be able to power the ipod and and charge a bluetooth headset as well.
I'd like to know if anyone has experience with a similar setup, and more specifically if there are any reasons why this wouldn't work properly?
My main worry is that there is no way to eject the iPod on the Xbox 360 or the PS3. So if I switched the USB port while the iPod is reading "Do Not Disconnect", do I risk corrupting the data or otherwise harm the iPod?
Any help would be appreciated, please let me know if I should clarify any details.
    Thanks in advance.

  • Can I sync my ipod with multiple computers using home share?

Once I homeshare all my computers, can I sync my ipod with any of them?  Or do I always have to sync using the same computer.

What kind of iPod do you have?
For most iPods you can click Manually manage music on the summary page in iTunes. Check out Apple's document -> Using iPad or iPod with multiple computers.
