60 gig Photo - Must restore before updating
On my third iPod Photo 60gig, and countless hours with tech support and on boards trying to find solution but still no answer. I use a compaq presario 3017cl and every time i connect my ipod the updater says that it needs to be restored. Sick up having so restore and udate 16gigs of music just to add one song. Need help!
I've read somewhere on this board that some people been having problems with SiS USB chipsets. Has this been verified can you please comment if you have had the same problem.
Can anyone help, does anyone have any ideas?
Recovery Mode
1. Disconnect the USB cable from the device, but leave the other end of the cable connected to your computer's USB port.
2. Turn off the device: Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button for a few seconds until the red slider appears, then slide the slider. Wait for the device to turn off.
3.While pressing and holding the Home button, reconnect the USB cable to the device. The device should turn on.
4. Continue holding the Home button until you see the "Connect to iTunes" screen. When this screen appears, release the Home button. iTunes should alert you that it has detected a device in recovery mode. Click OK, and then click Restore to restore the device.
Note: Data will be lost. You may have to repeat the above many times.

Photos not restored after update
Finally got the restore going after installing iOS6, it's now reloading all the apps. 40 photos from Photostream have showed up but some 1400+ from my phone have not. Have I lost them?
I'm having a similar issue, I just update to iOS 6 and when I open the Photos app, only 46 images are shown, there is a message bellow camera roll saying "Restoring 46 of 4390" and all I can see my events or other albums, on iTunes I have selected the photos I want to have sync, but also, there were photos on the Camera Roll that I haven't downloaded to iPhoto. There are many photos, like 2000, Did I lost those? Help!!!!
P.S. Im not using photostream, so restoring those photos from there, not possible because I never upload them to the cloud. -
Ipod touch 4g will not update and wont restore before updating

HT201413 i am getting a -1 security code when i try to restore and update
i am getting a messege pop up saying itunes has detected a phone in recoery mode you must restore and update. restore will run through whole process then i will get another pop up saying itunes cannot restore ok more information -1 sec code

When performing the new iPhone(IOS6) update I received an error message - iTunes has detected an iPhone in recovery mode. You must restore this iPhone before it can be used with iTunes. Will I lose everything if it goes back to factory settings. Right now my phone wont do anything. It is just showing a cable, an arrow and the iTunes logo.
If you restore from backup.
You should have made sure that everything was on your computer bef ore updating anyway. Did you fail to do that?
All pics taken with iphone should be imported to your computer regularly as you would with any digital camera, most especially before any update/restore/etc. Did you fail to do that? -
I updated my Ipod touch 4th gen (IO6 or whatever its called) And it has the picture that says to connect my ipod to Itunes, and I did, now it says "ITunes has detected an Ipod in recovery mode. You must restore this Ipod before it can be used with ITunes." I just updated it and now I have to restore it??! I don't wanna lose all my things on my ipod just for a stupid update! Please someone help!
Once the Device is asking to be Restored with iTunes... it is too late to save anything... and you must continue with the Recovery...

I backed up my iphone 4 before updating to my iphone 5 and it restored to default settings. As a result, I have lost all my photos. Is there any way to reverse the back up as I have a 2 month old baby and desperatly want to retrieve my photos :-(
Pictures are designed to be copied off the device regularly as would be done with any digital camera. There is no logical reason why anyone would fail to do this with supposedly important pictures.
If a recent backup exists, it is also possible to restore the device from the most recent backup, this may restore pictures to the device. If it does, COPY THEM OFF THE DEVICE IMMEDIATELY for safekeeping. -

Unless you have a backup from which you can restore, yes you will lose all of your data and settings.
You should be able to sync your content back to the iPad if you have been syncing with iTunes all along. If you don't sync with iTunes, you can download much of your paid content again for free as long as you use the same Apple ID. This explains downloading past purchases.

Never once has my phone updated without deleting everything. It says "iTunes has detected an iPhone in recovery mode. You must restore this iPhone before it can be used with iTunes. I can't call for help because my phone is frozen on the screen with iTunes. On line live chat won't chat until I give them my serial number which I can't get to because its frozen and can't call for the same reason!! Omg! Someone please help me!?

Am trying to sync my 3gs to itunes,keeps coming up with a notice saying! iphone in recovery mode. Must restore the iphone before it can be used with itunes.
Am really worried about doing this as the phone came with a note enclosed saying "Do NOT restore or update iphone software on itunes when asked to otherwise unlock will be lost"
Is it safe for me to restore or will it block my phone?

Where, exactly did you get this phone? If it's already in a state where it says it must be restored, you don't have a choice. If the phone was hacked, it will be re-locked to the network it was originally locked to. ONLY the carrier it is locked to can legitimately authorize unlocking the phone. -
I had some new albums I bogut from Itunes and wanted to put them on my Ipod Touch. Went to do that, ITunes said there was an update. I downloaded the update and then I couldn't see anything in my Ipod nor listen to anything. The screen of my Ipod shows a USB cable pointing to Itunes and when I plug it into ITunes again I get the message "iTunes has detected an iPod in recovery mode. You must restore this iPod before it can be used with iTunes." And the ONLY option it gives me is to restore my IPod to factory settings. I looked online for answers but all I see are people having problems with this because they bricked their phone, which I haven't ever done or even know how to do. I have windows 8 enterprise OS and iTunes ver. 10.5.0.142. I was upgrading my iPad to IOS 6.1.3. After finishing the upgrade my iPad Reboot and currently stucked-up in a plug-in screen and iTunes Logo. When I try to connect it to the iTunes pop-up message appear saying " iTunes has detected iPad in recovery mode. You must restore this iPad before it can be used with iTunes." In short, I push the restore button then another pop-up message appear saying " The iPad software update server could not be contacted. Make sure your network settings are correct and your network connection is active, or try again later." I tried many ways but still no luck. I repeatedly reboot the iPad and open the iTunes still the same problem. I try also to uninstall the iTunes and installed the lower version but still the same problem, I even check the firewall if the ITunes was block or My privileges is administrator to run the iTunes or even reset my winsock but the problem still remain. before getting on the plane. In the hotel about 48hrs later I opened my iPad it
read the message: “iPad is disabled,
connect to iTunes.”
To my knowledge myself, nor anyone else has tried to access my device or
entered the password incorrectly 3 or more times.
I started by updating my iTunes account on my computer to the latest version.
Then multiple times I attempted
the “Use recovery mode”
steps.
e.g.
1. Turn off your device and leave it off.
2. Plug in your device's USB cable to a computer with iTunes.
3. Hold down the Home button on your device as you connect the USB
cable. Keep holding down the Home button until you see the Connect to iTunes
screen.
I received the message on my computer saying “iTunes has detected an iPad in recovery mode. You must restore this iPad before it can be used with iTunes.”
I click the “Restore iPad” button.
During which time the progress bar on my computer’s iTunes
screen was moving very slowly and other times seemed like it wasn’t moving at
all. I would leave my two devices and attached by the cable and upon returning
I would find that the process would have ended before it had completed.
Initially I thought it was a connections issue because I was in remote
locations with slow internet servers. Since being home I have re-attempted the
process and have been able to fully complete the forced recovery but I will
receive a message saying:
“The iPad could not be restored. The disk you are attempting to use is full.
Removing files and emptying the recycle bin will free up additional space.”
What recycle bin is the message referring to? Obviously I CANNOT access any
data on the iPad itself. Just for the **** of it, I did empty my computers
recycle bin and re-attempted the forced recovery process but as I suspected it
did nothing for the iPad and I still received the same message: “The iPad
could not be restored. The disk you are attempting to …”
