60 seconds to send mail, really?
You know, I'm really, REALLY starting to feel a little annoyed at Apple lately. Mail is the slowest application on this planet. Takes forever to load mail, even longer to send it. And no attachments either.
I am on a cable modem, using a Mac Pro, with the latest this and that. Gmail is 1.5 billion times faster. Sigh...

Sorry, how is this Apple's problem?
Clearly 60 seconds to send mail isn't standard, otherwise lots of people would be complaining. Therefore it's going to be some issue with your mail client, your network connection or your mail server.
You'd need to do some troubleshooting to work out where the problem is. For example, does it take a long time for the mail client to find the mail server? (might indicate a DNS problem), or does it take a long time to authenticate to the server? (may indicate a mail server problem), or does it connect quickly, but take a long time to transfer the email data? (may indicate a network problem).
You might also try playing with the options for your mail server - for example toggling the authentication mechanism (if your server supports authentication), or SSL/TLS (if your server supports that).

Sending mail through "local" mail server?
I've set up fetchmail and procmail to download (and delete) mail from my mail host to a ~/Maildir on a server in my home which I then access through dovecot IMAP.
I want to be able to send mail "through" my server too, instead of going straight to my host's smtp. Maybe there isn't any good reason to do this? I want my Sent mail to be stored on my local server. And if set up more than one mail account, it would have to use the right smtp depending on the email address.
Anyone know how they would go about it? I found a handful of dovecot/fetchmail articles, but none that mention sending mail really. There's an oldish looking wiki article on exim, but I feel like I shouldn't need to use system wide conf for this.Dovecot and fetchmail only handle the mail coming to you (ie, IMAP/POP3). You need SMTP to send email.

Things were going well. Mail was working fine and then the following error message appears out of nowhere. I had not changed any settings. From that point on all efforts to send mail failed, and the error message appeared even thought I used the password to log back in after I quit. Now, an hour after the problem started it takes my password (on the second try after the error message appears) once and sends a test message. Then, one minute later it gives the error message again and refuses to send anything. Why is mail so inconsistent? What can I do in the future to address the problem?
Error message reads "The SMTP server "xxxxx" rejected the password for user "xxx" Please re-enter your password or cancel.
When mail does work again. Should I click the remember this password in keychain or am I just asking for more trouble?
I'm writing this using my IMac computer in a different room. The error also occurs on my powerbook running my new MacBook Pro 12 inch.
Fed up Mac user.I"m no expert but this used to happen to me all the time (stop downloading, asking for my password, nothing downloading, walking away- 24 hours or more later, all is fine, only to later start all over again)
Well, i gave up for a long time and stopped using that account with mac mail and only accessed it online..recently went and changed the pop3 to only pop and now it works beautifully and seamlessly. Don't ask me why or how, but it does so thought I'd share. -
Mail appears to send, but really isn't.
This is a bizarre problem. I have two partitions (well, hard drives), but which have their own installation of Tiger. I have been using one partition for a while, have my mail set up (a .mac account and several POP accounts). Things work fine.
Then I boot into this other partition and also set up mail there. (Don't ask me why I do this, it's rather convoluted!) I have been sending and receiving mail and everything appears to be fine. But then people have started to complain that I'm not answering their emails, and it turns out that nope—nothing is going through. Sending mail works fine on the other partition (the one I've been using longer) but not on this one.
I reinstalled Tiger on this second partition (for a variety of reasons) and figure that this would fix the email problem. But nope—it's still doing the same thing. It appears to send the mail (makes the "whoosh" sound like it's sent it, appears in the "sent" folder), but nothing happens.
Oh, and another thing—my .mac account is unaffected. It can send out email fine.
Please help! I don't understand this! I guess I can always boot into that other partition to send out email, but obviously that's not my first choice.
I'm using Comcast Cable and am using the outgoing SMTP address of "smtp.comcast.net" (like I have been for years). I even tried putting in my Comcast username and password and authenticating, but that hasn't made any difference. I will probably call Comcast tomorrow to see what they say. I am stumped!

You need to investigate what, if any differences, there would be in the messages being sent? Look for differences in use of Rich Text Format vs Plain Text, where attachments are involved. Anything different about the composition of the messages is a possible rationale for the recipient's mail server and SPAM filter to be blocking the messages you have sent, rather than anything on your end of things. If messages leave the Outbox, and are stored in the Sent mailbox they were sent by the SMTP.

Unable to send mail, but only at my office (!)
This one is really strange. Lots of information gathered over the last 10 days or so, on which I can't send mail through two of my accounts.
I got this new MacBook Pro with Snow Leopard factory-installed. This is not an upgrade problem.
I imported my user account from a Time Machine backup, but did not import any apps or system files. I had to install all my 3rd party apps, configure networking for my two locations (Home and Office), etc.
The problems started on 10.6.0. Mail couldn't send messages through any of my accounts. Receiving has always been OK. Updated to 10.6.1 and problems went away.
Since the 10.6.2 update, I can't send mail again, but in very special circumstances:
- Only two of my mail accounts, hosted at my hosting provider, have this problem. Gmail works flawlessly, though I feel a little lag before actual mail is sent, specially at my office;
- Only when I am at my office, where we use public IP addresses on the LAN. Everything works perfectly at home or other places (public hotspots, other networks, etc.) where private IP addresses are used on the LAN!
All other Macs at the office, which use Leopard (10.5), work fine and dandy. We don't use DHCP. All computers are configured manually and connect to the same wireless network. I already checked my firewall and both the ISP and hosting provider.
I already did everything mentioned in other threads here: repair permissions, rebuild mailboxes, everything! I even created another user account on my Mac and configured everything from scratch. I didn't re-install Mac OS X, though.
Any ideas?

I did that. I also tried deleting that plist and reconfiguring all my mail accounts, but that didn't work.
Then I thought I could get the problem solved by creating a new user account on my Mac -- a clean home folder should eliminate the culprit --, but it didn't work either.
I decided to give up on that, now that I can send mail anyway. I will let this question as unanswered so people can suggest possible fixes.

One more piece of info that can help:
- Connection Doctor showed me a red bubble for these accounts, telling me to check the username and password.
- Looking at the details (log drawer of Connection Doctor), I saw that my mail server was responding with a 250 code, but Mail waited 30 seconds to send the EHLO command. By that time, the server had timed out.
- Mail would then try again, but this time it would send a HELO command, which my mail server does not accept. -
Can't Send Mail with Same Outgoing Server
I have 2 Roadrunner accounts that use the same outgoing smtp server. In order for me to send email (receiving POP email is not a problem), I have to set the outgoing server for port 25, no SSL and no authentication. I can get one of the accounts to work. But, when I try to set up the 2nd roadrunner account with the same settings on the same outgoing server, I get an error from OSX mail telling me the following:
"Could not save the changes
The servers marked with alert icons are in conflict and cannot be saved. Two servers cannot share the same address and authentication settings. Resolve the conflicts and try again."
Can someone help me figure out how to get around this? I'd really like to send mail from my accounts.

Welcome to Apple's discussion groups.
Perhaps I'm missing something, but can't you have both accounts use the same SMTP server? If you're still trying to create the second account using the account creation wizard, I'd try giving it dummy SMTP information, then change it to use the real SMTP server once the account is created. -

Can receive mail but not send mail
Hey, I can receive mail but cannot send mail. I previously had bellsouth mail and it worked fine, now I have a Charter.net account and I get a pop up every time I try to send mail saying, Mail couldn't be sent using the POP account Charter.net. I would really appreciate any help that some of you Mac experts could give me. It'd be nice to be able to send e-mail without having to go to the Charter website!

Is there any chance that this inability to SEND could be fixed by the removal of MessageRules.plist, MessageRules.plist.backup, MessageSorting.plist and MessageSorting.plist.backup that I have seen in other threads on Mail problems? I'm not having a complete failure of Mail, but I can't send mail (only receive).
I have contacted both my ISP (ATT) and my "second party" mail host (Godaddy.com) and all my settings are correct and things should, in theory, work fine -- but they don't!

This is a little confuse because i can send/recive mails on iphone and web, and i can recive mails on my mac but not send... also happens something weird that i see on message sent inbox on mac/web/iphone mail that i send on mac... so i dont know if this happens by sync or there is really something bad with my email account or for recive my mails people. All this happens only with my icloud account... by the way, sometimes i can't send mails too from my iphone but when i delete and add my icloud account this solve, no the same case on mac

When is my mail really outgoing?

I would like to know about outgoing mail
I have this interesting case that when I am a visitor I am not allowed to send outgoing mail with my mail client (Mac OS X Mail 2.1.3) , but I am with my iPhone (2.2.1, April 2009). Both, over the local wireless network at the places we visit.
I don't think about browser log-in and use of browser as mail client for both reading and sending. That always works, from any location. I guess - since I am a known user.
Also, if I try sending mail from an iPod under these circumstances, I am neither allowed. With same mail set-up as the iPhone.
At home
There, the outgoing mail server is smtp.online.no. All users of the wireless which uses that server with my name and password could set up their clients to send in my name. All machines on the net, including iPhone.
Visiting
The network at a friend we often see has smtp.bostream.nu as outgoing mail server. Since I want to send as myself, I have not asked for the friend's log-in details. So, Mail "refuses" me do send over that server, and trying to use the same set-up as at home it refuses me to send over smtp.online.no. I guess it's because the latter server knows the ip address or network provider I use, and then it knows who is sending: it's me, at home, I have paid for the connection: all is well. So, it's not Mail that "refuses", it merely reflects the outgoing mail servers' responses.
My queries
But why am I allowed to send via the visiting wireless from my iPhone (and neither iPod nor Mail)?
Observe that I have told the iPhone not to use the telephone connection by giving it a rubbish APN name - and configured the iPhone so that the telephone provider's server is second to the wifi server. I can see on the mail I this way am able to send from the iPhone that it's routed from bostream's dsl.bredbandsbolaget.se directly to my mail address's incoming server at start.no. My iPhone telephone provider does not seem to be in the expanded mail heading anywhere.
What are the (protocol) mechanisms?I don't have an answer on this.But I'll close it now.

I have a problem that i dont know how to resolve: I need to send an email to some adresses with an attachment ( an excel file stored on the server's drive) How can it be done?
The email has to be sent by a job that should do this operation each day.

Mail App sending mail super slow.. ??
I am trying to send mail using my @me account and it sending super slow even for small text. as a test i just wrote test and sent and it was a couple minutes to send. Anyone else experiencing this problem?
I have restarted mail several times and restarted my macbook..
went to gmail to test and sent to my mac address and was instant. but all outgoings from mail app are like syrup

Having a bit of a meltdown at the moment and would love my mac not to fail me at the worst time as well.....aarrggghhAn issue with DNS can arise when sending via the SMTP, and it will likely be different for different ISPs. To confirm this is the problem, please prepare two new messages for sending, before sending either of them. Then click to send the first one, and as soon as you hear the swoosh that it has gone out, click to send the second one. If the second goes out almost instantaneously, then it is correctable with a change in DNS.

I am not sure how to advise you in New Zealand, but your ISP should be able to provide you with explicit DNS addresses to enter. This not impact webmail sending, btw.

Take a look at the documentation of FM 'SO_DOCUMENT_SEND_API1' for parameter PACKING_LIST. I think you should set t_packing_list-head_num to a different value than 0 for the second attachment.

I have a Sender Mail Adapter receiving emails with attachments! I'm using PayloadSwapBean, because I have to manipulate (to do mapping) the XML attachment.
Sender Mail Adapter Configuration:

Well, my problems are:
1) Although my Default Interface Namespace is urn:mynamespace.com, sometimes the namespace that cames to SXMB_MONI is http://sap.com/xi/XI/System/Mail. In that case, an Receiver Determination error happens.
2) My XML can be the first (MailAttachment-1), the second (MailAttachment-2), the third (MailAttachment-3), or any other attachment position. Since my swap.keyValue is set to "MailAttachment-1", I'm able to pick the XML only if it is the first attachment.Hi Julio,
