600-1050 Upgrades and advice?

HP 600-1050
Intrel (R) Core (TM)2 Duo CPU T6500 2.10 GHz
4.00 GB Ram
64 Bit windows 7
I am looking for some speed and performance upgrades. I am upgrading to 8.00 GB ram already so anything other than that. I am wanting to know if there is upgrades for the processor or ways to boost the speed some more. I have a 2 TB hard drive already and it is not full. Thanks!

Hello ct3737:
No it looks like you have done every thing already. Now if it is speed you are looking for that's all done turning off things in serives and making changes in your IE 9 browser. My HP Touchsmart 600-1050 is at the repair center. My start up is less then 20 secounds on it. It should be here in a couple days. Please go to this fixhttp://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Other-Notebook-PC-Questions/My-quizzical-laptop/m-p/2412047#M60694 . so I do not have to retype proceedures again. This is a start. For the things in servises I turned off I will email you my screen shots of services to turn off so you can compare your service windows to that when my computer arives. You can purchase this software as well to speed up your computer as well.http://www.totaldefense.com/shop/total-defense-pc-tune-up.aspx It works great as well if you do not want to go through manually adjusting your computer. The biggest thing when changing out coponets is that you can damaged the operating system. Trying to find drivers is another issue. These things will make your computer much faster. Soon as my computer comes back I will email you my screen shoots. You are welcome frrw.

  • TouchSmart 600-1050 - Graphics Problem with MS Outlook

I have a TouchSmart 600-1050. When I open MS Outlook, and then open the Calendar in a separate window, the window opens as non-maximized and everything is fine. When I maximize the window (I start in Week view), the tasks below each day do not stretch to fit their now wider column. It's as if the graphics don't recalculate for that screen element. Once I am maximized and see the problem, I have to switch to another view (e.g. Month or Day) and back to Week and it will fix itself. Feels like a graphics problem, underpowered chipset or bug in driver (?).
This was not a problem on my HP Desktop I had before, and it is not a problem on my 3 year old Lenovo ThinkPad X60. All are running W7 and using Office 2007.
Any ideas? The graphics driver is up to date according to HP Update and Device Manager.
    Thanks!

Thanks for your reply. I tried both of your suggestions and the issue occurred in both. I've never noticed the sub-content not maximizing properly in other apps, but haven't tested thoroughly.
Any other ideas would be greatly appreciated.
    - Should I checked a different way to see if I have the latest drivers?
    - Is there any way for me to upgrade my 600-1050 with the graphics card in the 600-1055? The 1050's "Mobile PCI Express Module" is open/available. Could I buy the nVidia GeForce GT 230 that comes with the 1055 and hook that up?
Only reason I suggest this is that the graphics seem sluggish to update at times.
    Thanks.

  • Hi, I need help and advice. Basically me and my ex partner both had iphones and synced it with the same computer under the same ID. We split i have a new laptop and now it keeps asking for the old ID or it'll erase my apps bought on theold account.

Hi, I need help and advice. Basically me and my ex partner both had iphones and synced it with the same computer under the same ID. We split up and now im trying to get all my apps and info onto my new laptop with a new account but it keeps asking me for the old apple ID which she is still using and she changed the password. i tried backing it up but still nohing. When i try to back up purchased items being apps etc its keeps asking for the old one. help

See Recover your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device. But you'll still need the password.
Once you have the computer authorized to use the account she could change the password again to stop you buying apps on her card (assuming it's not on yours!). It would lock you out of upgrading them too but they should work unless she uses the deathorize all feature.
It depends on how amicable the split is...

  • Help with simple OS upgrade and backup questions for a dumb old previous PC user...?

    Ok...have mercy on me, please...
I am not completely dumb, I know typical board etiquette, and I have searched for various answers (and found many)...but I just want to confirm my personal "research" and get all of this clear up before I proceed with this insanity.  I know I could probably search more, but this is taking hours, because of all my various questions, one leads to 10 more...
I have an iMac with Mac OS X Version 10.5.8 (which, though not mentioned anywhere?...is apparently "Leopard", right?  Told you I was dumb...)
Processor:  3.06 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
    Memory: 2 GB 800 MHz DDR2 SDRAM
My main goal:  install an app that was in the Mac App store.
However, with Leopard, I can't access the Mac App store with Leopard, apparently.
I click on the Mac App store, and up pops up a Lion advertisement...telling me I should upgrade.  Ok, fine...probably a good idea, anyway...
But how do you upgrade to Lion?  Apparently through the Mac App store!
The web-redirects on the Apple site are amusing...taking me on an endless cycle...purchase Lion in the app store...click..."you need to upgrade to Lion"...OK...click..."you need Lion at the app store"...OK...click..."you need to upgrade to Lion to get to the app store"....etc.
OK...fine...google searches...ahh, I need to upgrade to Snow Leopard first, apparently!  Yes?
(Maybe the Apple redirects should detect that I have Leopard, and direct me to a screen that explains that I must upgrade to Snow Leopard...and then Lion!  Do you hear that, Apple?  Thanks.)
    Anyway...so here's my plan:
    1) Upgrade to Snow Leopard
    2) Access the Mac app store
    3) Upgrade to Lion
Question A:  With my iMac (specs above), is it really advisable for me to do this?  Can my computer really handle Lion?  It seems I barely meet the minimum with my intel core 2 Duo and 2 GB ram...yes?  Is this a dumb idea, even if "OK"?  I know that "minimum requirements" on a PC often meant:  "Well, it will work...but it will be slower than a snail and crash if you run 5 programs at the same time" (which I usually do...)  I don't want to upgrade if the "minimum" is really not enough.
Question B:  If the answer to A is "not a good idea", then  do I just need a new computer (i.e. better processor)?  Or do I need more Ram?  And can I add Ram to this computer, and is it relatively easy?  I have added Ram to PCs tons of times, and you always have to determine type of Ram for your board, make sure they "match", or whatever, and then open up the machine and install.  Kind of a pain, but once I have the "right" type of Ram, opening the CPU and installing is within my abilities.  Will it be harder for a Mac?
    = = =
    Next:
When upgrading an OS on a Windows, you pretty much format the harddrive and start all over.  Back in the day I was a PC user, there wasn't really a "great" way to back up programs and files, so this was a nightmare.  You could NOT just back-up software.  You typically had to re-purchase and install it all from scratch.  Is this the same with Macs?  Furthermore, personal files were scattered all over the hard-drive for the individual software...so trying to back all that up to get it back on the new system = nightmare!  I hate PCs.
Anyway...so, my iMac has Time Machine.  I am pretty ignorant about this, and based on my previous PC backup program nightmares, I have a distrust for it...and don't really understand how it works.  But in any event, my external drive crashed a few months ago, and I haven't replaced it, yet.  So, I am replacing it soon and will get Time Machine back up and running...setting it up again, etc...leading to question C...
Question C: When upgrading from Leopard to Snow Leopard to Lion, what is the best way to ensure I keep all my programs and files.  My wife and I both access the computer, so two user accounts.  Does Time Machine really do a good job backing up everything and all things?  Is it just a matter of upgrade to Snow Leopard...then immediately to Lion...and then some sort of "Restore" from Time Machine?  Anything for me to "watch out for"...or to do when I buy a new external hard-drive and setup up Time Machine for the first time on it, in order to make this work well?  Will I have to re-install all the various applications I have installed on this thing?  (like with PCs?)
    Thanks for any sincere help.

Apple has discontinued support for 10.5, it's a plaque of our platform that Apple only supports the last two operating systems in circulation.
Where as on Windows you can run the same OS version for 10 years and get updates free (if not stolen), on a Mac we get one year, two tops now and if you don't upgrade and break all your third party software and hardware drivers in the process, then your denied security updates.
On top of that, the OS X upgrades tend to break your older hardware too, or slow it down so much that it drives you to want to buy newer hardware.
It's funny Apple places the AppStore on your OS X version along with iTunes and Safari updates, but then doens't supply necessary security updates, your machine may be compromised and here you enter vital credit card info, banking  etc. thinking you have a secure machine.
My advice, since that's a 10.5 era Mac, is to upgrade to 10.6.3 via this disk, then use Software Update until clear. You'll get security updates and your present installed 10.5 software will work in 10.6 using Rosetta.
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC573Z/A
Rosetta is not avaialble in 10.7 so it could be a lot of your software will no longer function
    http://roaringapps.com/apps:table
I don't see the sense in you buying all new software for a machine that's at it's end of life stage.
You can buy software in the AppStore with 10.6.
Question A:  With my iMac (specs above), is it really advisable for me to do this?  Can my computer really handle Lion?  It seems I barely meet the minimum with my intel core 2 Duo and 2 GB ram...yes?
You will need to buy 4GB of RAM to run Lion well, the 2GB is just a bare minimum, and your processor is a bit dated.
Lion 10.7 is certainly slower than Snow Leopard 10.6, in fact so many wanted to go back to Snow Leopard and one of the resons was Lion was slow.
So I wrote a User Tip, here, but the Tips were implemented only recently.
How to revert your Mac to Snow Leopard

RAM is easy, you can buy it at Otherworld Computing or Crucial.com and install it yourself, there is a little door under the monitor.
    Videos online at YouTube.

Mac'soperaing system is seperate, it can be replaced or upgraded indepentantly of programs or user accounts on the machine.
There are some programs that install a kernel extension file at boot into OS X, those get knocked out, but those can be replaced with a new install of the software.
You should always backup your users files as those can't be repalced.
 Most commonly used backup methods explained
Question C: When upgrading from Leopard to Snow Leopard to Lion, what is the best way to ensure I keep all my programs and files.
OS X upgrades dont' affect User accounts but they can have a affect on programs installed, which most of your 10.5 programs likely will no longer work in 10.7
However they will (with a slight update) work in 10.6 just like before.
You need to backup regardless, I suggest a manual backup of users files to a storage drive, a 10.5 clone on another drive, the your ready to upgrade to 10.6
10.5 to 10.6 upgrade is rather painless, also 10.6 gives accelerated video drivers, so your machine will appear faster.
However once you install 10.7, you will slow down.
Does Time Machine really do a good job backing up everything and all things?
No, you shouldn't rely upon TM, have a multiple backup stragedy, TM files are hard to access directly.
Is it just a matter of upgrade to Snow Leopard...then immediately to Lion...and then some sort of "Restore" from Time Machine?
No need to restore, OS X upgrades and leaves everything else in place, just some programs (with 10.6) or a lot (with 10.7) when you try to launch them they will fail.
Also when you connect TM it will do a substancial change to reflect the new boot drive.
If you were using TM as a "storage drive" thinking you can use the archived versions later, that wil change upon the new OS X  upgrade.
But in any event, my external drive crashed a few months ago, and I haven't replaced it, yet.  So, I am replacing it soon and will get Time Machine back up and running...setting it up again, etc...leading to question C..
You need not only TM drive, but a bootable clone and user files on a storage drive.
 Most commonly used backup methods explained
Will I have to re-install all the various applications I have installed on this thing?  (like with PCs?)
No, depending upon what OS X version you stop at depends how many programs no longer work.
You will have to buy a lot of new or upgrade versions with 10.7, not so with 10.6 only updates mostly because of Rosetta on 10.6 and not on 10.7
My opinion, since that machine is a bit dated, is to upgrade to 10.6, Software update to 10.6.8, and stay there.
Later on 10.8 is being released after this summer, you may want to consider getting a new machine with 10.8 a few months later to ensure all the bugs are worked out of it.
Your not a comptuer savvy person, you like most Apple users expect your machine to "just work" I think going to 10.7 will be a bad experience for you.
10.6.8 will server your needs until 10.8 is released and on new hardware where Apple will hold your hand for free for three months, 3 years with AppleCare.
Your not a "OS X upgrader type of a person" and Apple needs to get of thier collective assets and pay better attention to it's most common users.

I desparately need the one time HP RECOVERY DISC, USB Recovery Media or information on a harddrive.
I  am willing to purchase, if it is a reasonable price, because of limited monthly income.
When I bought this computer, i tried to burn the recovery DVD's, but they never burned and then I forgot about calling HP.
By this time I was too sick to call and this year (2014 / 2015) is the first time in three - four years that I feel more like my normal self.
What happened?  Right before Christmas 2014, I downloaded a CD for a present and now my hard drive is badly corrupted or has totally crashed (maybe loosing all my pictures and documents).
I have the pay monthly HP Smartfriend service.  HP has worked by remote on this computer several times, trying to help me get it back running properly. You may be able to access their records to get information needed to help me .
Now, the computer will NOT move pass the HP Splashscreen with clicking noise!
*** Due to the past few years of health issues, surgery and medical expenses, I can NOT buy a "new" computer at this time!
I want to at least TRY to get this computer restored and running for two more years!
I am willing to spend few dollars ($50.00 - $75.00) to replace this harddrive and with the recovery media than to spend several hundred dollars at this time!
I have NEW email address and cellphone number, but did not want to post it here, public.
I don't know how to change it in this forum, but I will try to figure it out so you can contact me and mail this to me right away!
Let this be my 2014 / 2015 Christmas Present!

  • ABAP and Kernel Patches for Upgrade and Conversion in 4.6C

    Hi,
We are in a process of upgrade and unicode conversion for the source release 4.6C (Kernel  46D_EXT Patch 2225).
"Combined Upgrade&Unicode Conversion Guide"  for "SAP Basis 4.6C u2192 SAP NetWeaver 7.0 application Server ABAP Unicode Including Enhancement Package 1 Support Package 01 - 06" , In Software Requirements step,  it says
"3. Import 4.6D Kernel patch 2326 from SAP Service Marketplace according to SAP Note 19466"
We wanted to know whether "IT IS ABSOLUTELY NECCESSARY TO GO FOR THE KERNEL PATCH 2326".  We dont have "EBCIDIC code pages" in our MDMP system.
We need to know  becauase we are also doing OS migration from AIX to Sun and this step will add to our production downtime.
Please advice what are the other causes we should go for the kernel 2326.
    Regards

    Hello Mr. Nils Buerckel,
    Thanks for the reply.
We wanted to be very sure whether we should used Kernel 46D Kernel patch 2326 (As it is specifically mentioned in the SAP CU&UC guide and in SAP Note 867193, It is mentioned that  "This patch contains enhancements that are required to execute the "INDX Analysis" scan)
    OR
Can we go for the latest kernel patch avaialable at market place? And Will the latest kernel patch also contains the "enhancements that are required to execute the "INDX Analysis" ?
    Please reply
    Thanks

  • 4.7EEx1.10 to ECC6.0 upgrade and Unicode conversion

    Hi Experts,
We are going to initiate the upgrade from next month onwards. Subsequently i have started preparing the plan and strategy for the same.
As our current setup is 4.7EEx110/Win 2003 R2-64 bit/Oracle 10.2.0.4.0 (Non unicode). And we have recently migrated on to this setup from WIn2k 32 bit. Also the current hardware is Unicode compatible.
With respect to strategy for achieving this Upgrade and Unicode conversion, i am planning as follows.
Step 1) Perform Unicode conversion on the current landscape (Both Export/import on the same servers)
Step 2) Setup Temporary landscape as part of Dual maintenance strategy and migrate data from the current systems to temporary systems using backup/restore method.
Step 3) Perform the SAP version upgrade on the current landscape and setup transport routes from temporary to current landscape in order to keep it in sync
Step 4) after successful upgrade, decommission the temporary landscape
Please provide your suggestions and valuable advices if there is anything wrong with my strategy and execution plan.
    Regards,
    Dheeraj

    Hi,
Thanks. As i have already referred these notes as i am seeking advise with respect to my upgrade approach.
However i have planned to perform in the following manner.
    1) Refresh Sandbox with Prod data and perform Upgrade to ECC6.0 EHP5 & subsequently Unicode conversion on the same server (Since both export & Import has to perform on the same hardware as we have recently migrated on this hardware which is Unicode compatible)
    2) Setup temporary landscape for DEv & QAs and establish transport connection to Production system in order to move urgent changes
    3) Keep a track of the changes which have transported during upgrade phase so that the same can be implemented in the upgraded systems i.e. Dev & QAS
    4) After Sandbox Migration and signoff, we will perform Dev & QAS upgrade & unicode conversion on the same hardware (Note: Since these are running on VMware can we export the data from the upgraded system and import on to a new VM?)
    5) Plan for production cutover and Upgrade the Prod system to ECC6.0 Ehp5 and then Unicode conversion. As i am planning to perform upgrade over the weekend and then Unicode conversion activity in the next weekend (Is it a right way?)
My Production setup: DB on one Physical host and CI on separate Virtual host
    6) After the stabilization phase, we are planning for OS & DB upgrade as follows:
          a) Windows upgrade from 2003 R2 to Windows 2008 R2
          b) Oracle Upgrade from 10.2 to 11.2
If anyone thinks that there is anything wrong with my above approach and need changes then please revert.
I have one more doubt as I am going to upgrade 4.7EEx110 (WAS 620, Basis SP64) to ECC6.0 EHp5.As I presume that I can straight away upgrade from the current version to ECC6.0 Ehp5 without installing EHP. Kindly confirm
    Thanks

  • Combined upgrade and Unicode conversion for ECC5 MDMP system

    Hello,
We are planning to do Upgrade and Unicode conversion of ECC5 MDMP system to ECC6 EHP4 Unicode. We are adopting Combined upgrade and Unicode conversion strategy to minimise the downtime.
In source version ECC5 we are in support pack level 6. Should we need to update the support pack to any target version to start with CU&UC or we can start with ECC5 with SP 6 itself.
Since we cant afford more downtime for support pack update also, is it ok to start with upgrade and unicode conversion with current version.
    please advice.
    Regards
    Vinay

    Hello Vinay,
please note that as a prerequisite the Basis SP should be accurate for an MDMP conversion.
There is no MUST to have the latest Basis SP, but without you could have severe issues in SPUMG.
On the application side, there are in most cases no hard requirements on the SP level.
    Best regards,

Good advice from Linc Davis that should sort out your query i think...
However you dont want to set your MBP to never go to sleep...
    Adjust reasonable sleep settings...
And the download an APP called caffiene...
When you click it you can have your MBP never go to sleep with a single click of your menu bar... and with another click it can go to sleep normally to maintain the laptop...
Simply click the cup... To toggle never sleep/sleep

  • What is the difference between Delta Upgrade and Supplementary Upgrade

What is the difference between Delta Upgrade and Supplementary Upgrade?
    thanks
    druva

    Hi,
Delta Upgrade - means installing the different add-on release on the same BASIS release.
ex: If you have add-on ERECRUIT 600 on SAP_BASIS 700 and want to upgrade to ERECRUIT 603 on SAP_BASIS 700, then its called Delta- Upgrade
Supplementary Upgrade - means installing the different add-on release on the different BASIS release.
ex: If you have add-on ERECRUIT 300 on SAP_BASIS 640 and want to upgrade to ERECRUIT 603 on SAP_BASIS 700, then its called Supplementary Upgrade.
