60fps footage in 30fps timeline plays with artifacts problem

I have to types of footage for a project: 720P 60fps shot in avchd and 1080P 30 shot with an HDV camera.
I am trying to combine the clips in the Premiere pro CS 4.1 AVHD 720P30 sequence preset. I do have to resize the 1080P footage but that is fine. The 60P footage plays at the correct speed, but it is filled with artifacts during playback in the timeline.
When I view the 60fps footage in the AVCHD 720P60 sequence preset, it playse back smoothy with no artifacts.
Am I missing a setting (such as frame blend maybe) or should I just try to edit everything in a 72060fps sequence and hope the hdv footage will be okay?
Thanks!

That's strange--the Source monitor is, as far as I'm aware, frame rate and format-agnostic, and should playback whatever is in it at its native frame rate. Unlike a sequence (and therefore, the Program monitor), it bends to the will of the material it contains, regardless of what it is. I'm indeed bewildered by this, and I'm sorry to say I don't have any idea what the problem might be. Did you change the interpretation of the footage after you imported it, or is it "as-is"? What is the playback quality setting for the source monitor?
EDIT: By way of example, the screen shot below shows a 29.97P clip in the source monitor, and then the same clip and frame in a 23.976 sequence. Frame Blending is on for the clip in the sequence, resulting in the smear, but that's not a problem in the source monitor:

This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of the test is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party software that loads automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, by a font conflict, or by corruption of the file system or of certain system caches.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards, if applicable. Start up in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. You must hold down the shift key twice: once when you turn on the computer, and again when you log in.
Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the startup volume is a Fusion Drive or a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to start up and run than normal, with limited graphics performance, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal startup may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually login automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, restart as usual (not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test.

  • Does Exporting 60fps on a 30fps timeline slows down export

I am editing a wedding videos with 2-3 cameras. The main videographer likes to shoot on 60fps while the other 2 shoots on 30fps.
I bring it to a 30fps timeline and set the 60fps clips to "scale to frame size"
after the edit, I export it out to 1080, 30 fps. And it takes about 9 hours to export a 40 mins video.
So I'm just curious if my 60fps clip on a 30fps timeline with 2 other 30fps angles is actually slowing down my export? What's the proper way that I should do it?
I just upgraded to a sad from a hdd and I thought it would actually make things faster but it seems like there is no changes.
I also have a 8gb ram. Does the problem lies on my timeline or my mac?

I have edited several 3 camera AVCHD weddings on this about significantly upgraded 1 year old PC notebook and while i really do the exporting on a desktop, but if you tell me your real export settings I will try to tell you what I see, now I do not have the complication of any 60p camera footage.
I cannot understand what you are doing with the "scale to frame size" process if both cameras are all the cameras are the same resolution???

  • Grid Control: transaction play with trace problem

I'm using OEM Grid Control 10g, an Oracle Application Server 10g, and an Oracle Database 10g, all running on Linux.
I'm trying to use OEM Grid Control for performance tuning.
I've created a Web Application target and a transaction for my web app.
Then I go to Manage Transactions, select my transaction and click "Play". After transaction play, I can click on "Show Results". All works fine.
Instead, "Play with trace" doesn't work. The transaction is played, but when I click on "Show Results" it displays: "Error: Unable to get trace data" and displays only the same informations displayed after a simple "Play" command.
I've searched in log files, in particular $ORACLE_HOME/sysman/log/emoms.log in EMGC10g ORACLE_HOME contains:

  • Expanding Clips on the Timeline - Help with new problem please.... (pic)

See pic below --- Never had this problem before. Any clip that is in my ongoing project won't expand more tha 1 second when trying to drag... what did i do wrong? It's doing this now in other projects as well....

    Clifs:
    * Any clip that is in my ongoing project won't expand more than 1 second when trying to expand/trim (using selection tool (V) making sure none other tracks are selected).
    * I was able to trim/expand these clips  before Wednesday (2 days ago).
    * Only happens on other version of THIS project (previous saved/copy versions) -- all sequences, all clips.
    * Thinking that this has something to do with the track selector tool. In my project, I was cutting/editing sections out (around 1:00 min in sizes) from the timeline and then using the track selector tool (A)  to move the entire project (the clips that are in front of the section cut) back in place (1+ hours of edited clips). I did this at least 20 times - in 20 different areas of the timline (successfully) until the proble occured. Leading me to believe it has something to do with that.
Just throwing it out there that I know how to go back and forth between (A) and (V) and that I've been using premiere for 9 years (since 6.0) and I know most of the ins and outs.
Thanks for the help i apprecieate it.

  • AVCHD Timeline Error with Preimere Pro CS4

I just bought an AVCHD camera that compresses to a m2ts file extension. Everytime I try and edit the AVCHD footage, this happens.
    Priemere Error:
Everything works except for the playback. When I playback the footage in the timeline it has artifacts in the image, color streaks, and blockiness. Only when I playback, there is nothing wrong with the footage! I've tested it elsewhere. It only does it during playback on the time line, no other time
All other files work fine, also I still have CS3 installed on my computer, I don't know if that could cause this problem. I am on an xp computer.

With the limited details provided it is hard to tell, but something tells me it might be be a limitation of your hardware.

  • DVC Pro HD 60fps footage with LED stage light flicker - anything I can do in Final Cut?

I shot DVCPro HD footage 60fps under LED stagelights.  It looked okay live on my camcorder's LED screen so I didn't think to synchronize.  Playback on FCP 60fps timeline is full of flickers.  Playback on 30fps timeline much less flickers, but looks like some interlacing issues.  Help - can I marry the 30fps and 60fps timelines in one project without making things worse?

    LED stage lights?
    Are you absolutely certain?
Stage lights that flicker at the mains fequency would make any movement on stage a sickening experience for the performers. I don't do stage lighting any more but I cannot imagine dimmable, bright, focusable lighting instruments that are also affordable.
If you have the luxury of reshooting, you must determine the luminaire  type. If it is controlled by a ballast or mains freq, you  must use a shutter speed that at least spans two complete cycles, 1/30th of a second. Better at 1/25th because your electronic shutter can easily get out of sync with the mains and you'll get a weird bar.
    LEDs? Errrmm.  Convince me.

  • 60fps Footage rendered to 30fps for slow motion

I know that to render footage shot at 60fps down to 30fps so it's slow motion you can use Cinema Tools in Final Cut Pro. I've done so with a buddy's system. I, though, have FCE HD and am wondering if there is a solution for me that doesn't require dragging footage over to my friends studio. Since FCE doesn't include Cinema Tools, is there another piece of software I might use?

aha! I now see what you are talking about. If your camera shoots for instance 720p60 - as does not GH2. So yes - MovieEdit does a good job of this - if you are willing to use the extra disk space for another copy of the movie file.
If you don't want to use extra disk space, save a reference movie of your file (will be a tiny file) and use this method on it:
    http://mingletron.com/?p=222
an easier link to get Atom Inspector is here:
    http://connect.apple.com/cgi-bin/WebObjects/MemberSite.woa/wo/5.1.17.2.1.3.3.1.0 .1.1.0.3.12.3.3.1
just change all the timescales of the ref movie that are not audio (ones that are not 48000 or 44100) to half their current value in all the mvhd and mdhd, then save and drag the ref movie into FCE. Sound will not work - it will be at the original speed and just end halfway through, but that's easy enough to fix - just unlink the sound, slow it down to 50%, chop off the excess and re-link.
To make a ref movie you need quicktime pro, or the free qtsync should also do it.

  • Editing in 60fps or 30fps timeline - for DVD export.

I have H264 footage shot at 720p60fps (using a Canon t2i).  About 30% of the final footge will be in slow motion.  Once edited, the footage will be exported for a DVD, which appears to have a 30fps standard.
My question: Should I edit footage in a 60fps (its native format) or 30fps timeline (in anticipation of the DVD export)?
When using a 60fps timeline, I assume that upon export to DVD (30fps standard), every other frame in the 60fps footage will be dropped - and that this shouldn't negatively affect the appearance of the footage.  If this is so (?), would there be any negative affect (stutter, etc.) to the clips that were used for slow motion?
    Thanks for any advice.

Since you're planning on putting 30% of your footage into slowmotion, it'll be best to edit in a 30fps sequence.  You can then conform the clips that you want in slow mo from 60fps to 30fps, and then when you place these clips on the timeline, it will playback in true slowmo.
    Hope that helps.

  • MXF file plays with audio on Source Monitor but timeline imports only the video

    Hello,
This started happening like a few hours ago. But it was working perfectly before! This is driving me insane!
This is the situation (Premiere CC, updated to latest version):
    - I have a bunch of MXF files and if I play them on the Source Monitor, audio and video play perfectly.
    - The moment I drag the MXF file onto the timeline, only the video is imported, not the audio.
    - I tried to drag only the audio, using the different ways that Premiere provides but it won't come at all.
I managed to import audio and video doing the following: close all sequences, and drag the MXF file in the timeline with no sequence opened thus it will create a sequence with the imported audio and video from the MXF file.
BUT if I try to drop the SAME MXF file in this brand new sequence, only the video will come again.
Does anyone have an idea of what is going on? And why it suddenly stopped working?
    Thank you!

  • Hi. Quick question I am working with Panasonic GH3 footage and it is playing back in slow motion?

Hi. Quick question I am working with Panasonic GH3 footage shot using .MOV wrapper with their IPB 50mbps and All-Intra 72MBPS codecs and they are playing back in slow motion in Sg CC. The footage works fine in PP CC and I have no clue on how to fix it. Is this a bug or do I a have a setting wrong some place?

Yes it turns red this is silly PP and AE have no problem with playback for these codecs. So it is indeed Sg not handling the codec correctly and not my system?
What if I transcoded it to something else other than the previous what would you reccommend?
I was going to transcode to ProRes but 5DtoRGB does not work on Windows with GH3 codecs.
What is the correct time warp seting under clip properties? I screwed with it and forgot the default setting.
Is there a way to reset Sg back to defaults settings globaly. I tried to many settings trying to fix the playback and may have left something in the wrong state.
    Thanks...

  • Entire timeline plays smoothly; chapter playlist stutters regularly

I have a DVD layout of NTSC widescreen footage with menus containing: (1) a "Play All" button which plays the full timeline and (2) "Scene Selection" buttons which play various chapter playlists from the same timeline.  The full timeline plays perfectly and smoothly throughout. When certain chapter playlists (even some containing only a single chapter) are selected, they play all the way through but they have about a quarter-second stutter (both audio & video freeze) in a regular pattern which occurs approximately every 16 seconds.  I have rebuilt the Encore project from scratch (except that each time I re-used the same encoded video produced by Premiere), but I keep getting the same stutter on the same chapter playlists but never on the exact same footage when it plays directly from the full timeline.
Has anyone had this or a similar problem?  Any ideas?

I appreciate your quick reply, but I’m just a bit puzzled by your answer.
On the Edit Quality Presets menu, the Format options are
    H.264 Blu-ray
    MPEG2-DVD
    MPEG2-Blu-ray
The Preset options for MPEG2-DVD are

  • Rendering HD footage in the timeline

I'm editing some TV spots shot on a Panosonic HD Varicam in 720p24. I selected the "Easy Setup" for both 720p30 and 720p24, but when i drag footage to the timeline, it has to be rendered. I remember this happening to me before, but I forget how I fixed it. It might have been something to do with the pulldown. However that was in 4.5 and in FCP 5 I can't find any pulldown options. No matter what combination's of capture/sequence/easy setup options I try, I still have to render all footage in the timeline. Any suggestions?
    Thanks

I've sort of figured it out but am still a little confused.
The EASY SETUP I used was 720p30. Therefore the capture frame rate was 30, the sequence frame rate was 30, the compressor was DVCPRO HD 720p60, and the playback output video fram rate was 60. Therefore all the default EASY SETUP 730p30 settings were in order. Then I noticed in the Browser window the "Vid Rate" for my captured video was 59.94, even though I had used EASY SETUP 740p30. When I changed the sequence frame rate to 59.94, voila no rendering needed. However I can't play more than a few seconds without getting the Dropped Frames warning.
So why when I selected EASY SETUP 720p30 did it capture as 59.94 (720p60?)
Why am I getting the dropped frames if it is the correct frame rate.
I know the camera might be involved. It's one of those Panasonic $75000 Varicams but the camera operator said the video was shot in 720p24 and the producer told me to cut in 720p30.
    Any info?
    Cheers

  • FCP keeps capturing my footage in 30fps instead of 24!

I'm recording onto miniDV with a Panasonic HVX. I recorded in 480i/24PA. When i open up final cut pro and go to 'log and capture', once i capture my footage onto the computer, i open it back up (just the .mov file), and i can clearly tell it's in 30fps!
because of this, it's doing that thing where it makes about every few frames have those lines on it, so my video looks so weird when people are moving
even when i open final cut pro and drag and drop the .mov files i captured into the timeline, and it asks me if i want to set the timeline to the same settings as the video, and i click yes, the sequence settings now reads 29.97 fps
how can i get Final Cut to capture in 24fps like i recorded!

The sequence and/or clips should be @ 23.98fps (23.976 to be exact). it seems as maybe the file is corrupt. if you shot in 480i 24PA on a miniDV tape, it should be able to remove it with no problems. another option you can try is to re-ingest the tape and select the advance pulldown. when you are in your log and capture window, go to the clip setting tab and select under the capture/input drop down menu and select "DV NTSC 48kHz Advanced 2:3:3:2: Pulldown removal. if you shot anamorphic make a duplicate and add that property in.
    try that. hope it works.
