60GB ipod behaves like only a 40GB in iTunes

Got a new 5th gen 60GB ipod, replacing a previous 40GB model. ipod mounts fine, looks like a 60GB disk in disk mode, however in itunes, it refuses to copy more than 40GB of music/photos/whatever.
Weird eh ?
Any ideas how to fix this ?

Problem was pretty wierd in the end, so I thought I'd report back. 40GB behavoir was just conincidence - my itunes library is just under 40GB, so that's why I upgraded to a 60GB.
Problem was that one of the files in my itunes library was apparently 252.2GB in size (even though the disk in the powerbook is only 80GB). Get info, ls, etc all reported the fielsize as this, there were also problems I had with backup (there was insufficient space on my backup device. This single file was causing the inability to load all the library. Anyway, deleted it, thing were fine now
Finally, I regularly do disk utility verify, and the funny file was not picked up in this.

Did you already try to reset it by holding the sleep and home button until the Apple logo comes up again? If this does not work, restore "as new ipod" without using the backup, in case it contains corrupt files.

IPod is recognized only in Windows not iTunes

Basically, my iPod Touch 4G does not show up on iTunes, it only charges when plugged in by USB. Windows recognizes it, but iTunes doesn't seem to. My iPod is recognized on another computer, but seeing as I have all my music on this computer I have no interest in using another.
I have tried the following:
- Restoring my iPod (from different PC)
- Restarting PC
- Restarting iPod
- Re-installing iTunes (around 8-10 times)
- Updating to latest software on iOS & iTunes
- Connecting using brand-new USB
I have failed. I am ready to give up on my iPod and get rid of it. Does anyone know the fix..?

Suddenly in the last 10 days, my iPod Touch playlists don't show up on the iPod unless plugged into iTunes and only under the device section of iTunes. Use 60GB iPod with laptop having only USB 1 ports?

I'd like to buy a 60GB iPod for use with a Compaq laptop having only USB I ports and no firewire. Is this possible? I know that the documentation mentions only the use of USB II. Is there a work-around? I

There are also USB2.0 PCMIA cards out there that should work unless someone has had some problems with that. As with any important computer where you have important documents, you should back up at least 1 or 2 times a month to once a week in my opinion. I have Iomega USB2.0 HDD (80 GB) that I back up my lap top to. It is really critical that you do so or you will find yourself without important family photos (we have almost 5 years worth of digital photos on our computers). I hope that also helps.

Thanks for your prompt response, however I have first seen it now. I have placed an active SIM card in the iPhone turned it off and on. It now says SIM locked, please write access code. The problem is I don't remember the password. When I connect it to iTunes it tell me that I have to write the password before it can be used with iTunes...... Do you have any good ideas? Pressing the Home button and the sleep/wake or on/off button together until you see the Apple logo and then release is called a reset.
If no change after a reset, the next step is restoring your iPhone.

60Gb Ipod allowing only 55 Gb space

Could anyone please help me. My 60Gb Ipod is allowing me to store music upto 55 Gb. I have not stored anything other than music on my Ipod but I do have saved artwork with songs.

As a general rule, the actual reported capacity of a hard drive is about 7% less than the advertised capacity.
The discrepancy you are noticing is due to the differences in the way that hard drive manufacturers calculate disk capacity and how it is reported by the operating system.
HD manufacturers use a decimal measurement to calculate disk capacity. They consider a gigabyte (GB) to be 1 billion bytes.
The decimal measurement would be 1000 x 1000 x 1000 which equals 1,000,000,000 bytes. For example, an 80GB hard drive means that the disk has an unformatted capacity of 80 billion bytes. (80,000,000,000 bytes.)
Since computers "speak" binary, not decimal... the operating system calculates a gigbyte (GB) differently.
The binary measurement would be 1024 x 1024 x 1024 which equals 1,073,741,824 bytes.
Using the example above, an 80GB hard drive would be reported by the operating system as 74.5GB.
80,0000,0000,000 / 1,073,741,824 = 74.5GB
1GB iPod = 930MB
2GB iPod = 1.8GB
4GB iPod = 3.7GB
20GB iPod = 18.6GB
30GB iPod = 27.9GB
40GB iPod = 37.2GB
60GB iPod = 55.9GB
Since the iPod operating system and extras also take up some space, you will be left with slightly less that the above stated capacity for your content.

60gb iPod only appears as 12.64 gb in iTunes

My 2005 60gb iPod is only coming up as 12.64 gb available in iTtunes. I've tried resetting the ipod, uploaded the newest version of the software, restarted everything and haven't had any luck. When I check the device in Windows XP it shows it as a 60 gb. Does anyone know how I get it to recognise the disc size correctly? There didn't seem to be any issues before I updated iTunes a month or 2 ago. When it said the iPod was full and I couldn't sync to it I just left it as it was and have been playing it. Tried to update the songs today and can't get it to recognize the right disc size. TIA for any help!

HELP!!! Itunes recognizes only 22gb available for a 60gb ipod.

I have a 4th generation 60gb ipod and a week ago all of my music was erased and I could do nothing to remove the folder/exclamation mark icon from my ipod. It was stuck in disk mode for a week and yesterday it finally started working. I unistalled all apple products from my computer and reinstalled itunes. When I connected my ipod to the computer it was recognized in itunes and started to add my music library, but then it said I didn't have sufficient space. I restored the ipod to factory settings 4 times and in my ipod summary it says I have a 22gb ipod???? How do I make it recognize my 60gb ipod??? PLEASE HELP.

Very upset that I can not put videos on my 5g 60gb ipod

I paid near $600 for a 5g 60gb ipod of which does not come with any software to help one transfer video to the ipod. Apple expects me to use itunes to surf to their website to pay and d/l music videos for $1.99 or movie trailers.
but what if I have a large collection of dvd movies? well apples answer is to cough up $20 for quicktime pro which claims it can do this, help encode movie files for playback on ipod. To make matters worse you ahve to pay another $20 for the mpeg encoder so you can actually encode vob files into .mp4 format.
I admit I paid a bit more for my 5g because i know the issue apple has had with poor batteries so i got a warranty plan. Well for $500 apple will just screw you beccause you have to cough up another $40 for software that claims it can help encode for playback in the ipod, but the truth it the software hangs at 100% and fails to finish.

I'm looking for a 1 click solution to convert my dvd movies collection into a playable format which i can upload to my ipod with 0 problems from start to end.

I've spent weeks now trying to take a dvd movie I have and putting it on a .mp4 file format and i'm having lousy luck with it. I've tried videora v2.0 and more than half the time the application hangs/crashes when it gets to the end. Also tried imtoo mpeg encoder and imtoo psp video converter and both of these apps will hang when it reaches the end of the movie and it does this randomly. Once in a while the mentioned apps will 100% convert the movie.
When I bought my 5g ipod it was made clear it could play digital video but apple misleads you because they make it sound like, after paying $500 you would have the tools to do it with included for the price. Even after I shelled out extra money for quicktime pro 7 and the mpeg encoder, it still fails. So far 4 apps can not seem to do the job. Its really a hit or miss if it actually converts a file. Thus far I've managed to convert only 3 movies out of 2 dozen dvd movies I've tried, and I experimented on 3 machines to just be sure.
I am not going to pay extra money to send away my ipod to have movies put on it that I already own, thats not a solution. your solution is to throw more money at the problem to fix it when in fact apple needs to seriously rethink about the blunder they have made and correct the problem.
first apple, needs to bundle/add software which can do the job, ie. quicktime pro with the mpeg encoder. This is their answer to the question people are asking "how to put dvd movies on my ipod". Next they need to have real support for the problem. Backing up music files from 60GB iPod (directly) to an external hard drive

I'm interested in backing up all of the music that's currently stored in my iPod. First off, I suppose it would entail knowing how to locate the music files within the iPod, and then figuring out how to upload.
One step I'd also prefer to avoid is to have to copy my music onto my laptop (to iTunes) and then reroute to the external hard drive. Would it be possible to just route/copy the music directly from iPod to external hard drive? I don't think I have enough memory to house all of my 30gb worth of music all at once on my computer, so if I do end up having to go through the laptop, I'd have to download in batches.
Ultimately, I'm just trying to avoid having to download all of my music files from my CDs again. It took me two months last time, which is way too long an ordeal.
Any help/ tips/ previous threads on the topic would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Try Yamipod. This is a similar free program which works on both Mac and Windows that transfers music and playlists etc from iPod back to the computer. However, it does not transfer playcounts/ratings etc.

Help - I have two faulty 60GB iPod Videos

Hopefully someone here can offer some guidance. I have two 60GB iPod Videos (mine and the wife's) which are both two or three years old. Both of them are playing up. Mine freezes and crashes constantly. It starts with random blocks and dots, artifacts and graphical gliches appearing on screen as I navigate (everytime the week clicks the "pattern" changes) and then it will freeze and crash. I then have to do a reboot and then when it comes back on it is okay for a while, it may even play a whole album. Then I start it out of hibernation the next day and it happens again. Apart from that it is okay and it charges, connects to iTunes, etc. I am okay with opening it up to check it out. Anyone know what I have to replace to repair it?
My wife's iPod is something else. It had been missing for a month or so and then we found it at the back of a drawer. It was dead so I charged it, however, once it got passed the "the battery is extremely low" message and booted up proper it then froze my PC and stopped charging. My PC screen froze and only started working again when I disconnected it. I tried charging it on my laptop and the same thing happened - it froze the screen on the laptop. Finally I tried charging it through a wall plug adaptor and again it would not charge it past the low battery message. It works, but literally only for a few songs before the small charge on the battery runs out. Again, anyone know what is required to repair this problem?
I was thinking of either buying a faulty ipod off ebay and try to salvage parts to repair one or both of the above, or just using one to repair the other.
Any ideas?

Have you tried restoring them to factory settings through itunes? Sounds like from your psot that you've reset them, but not restored them.

However... if the headphone/microphone combination has two 3.5mm jack plugs (pink and green) then the microphone output (pink) is "mic.level" - which is TOO QUIET for the audio input on a Mac, which is expecting the much stronger "line.level" signal strength.
Solutions: get a microphone pre-amplifier between the mic and the Mac (not cheap); or a different microphone with a USB interface.

the current swf unloads
the flash sends data to asp (ID of an article and ID of an
author, which movie to load next).
How do create a title/button?I know how to make a title to

2m, you are right. I should tell you about my concept. It's
all on the paper yet, because this is how I work - first I write
down everything on paper, study it and the next step in trying to
make it work on computer.
I have a main swf, I call it system.swf. System.swf receives
the info about the swfs, it must be loaded from html tag
<object><param>. The ID of the movies is send from
flash to asp and then via <object>back to flash. Does that
make sense? Is there a better way for that?
So, the system.swf is loaded for the whole time - let's say
it on level1. On level 2 are then loaded other swfs.It depends
which content the user wants to see.
About the article part:
first the user sees the list of last articles (title, date
and short description). When he/she clicks on the title, all the
action happens:
flash sends the data which article the user wants to read to
asp, asp searches in data base for the requested article and
creates xml, where are title, date and the whole content of the
article.
At the same time asp also sends via <object>tag in html
the id of the swf that must be loaded and the id of the author of
the article, so the swf, where the pictures of the all authors are,
will know what picute must load (this is the second swf that is
loaded on the article part - it's created like a gallery; the
author of the active article is bigger and if the user wants to
read the last article of other author, he/she just closes the
picture and then the images are moving in a slider way and when
he/she clicks on an image, it get larger and the last artcle of
this author is loaded).
And I wonder how can I make this all to happen: when the user
clicks on a title, all the var action happens?
If you have better idea how to create this, please, advice.
