60GB Ipod days of Work compared to CD player

I have just bought my first ipod its a 60gb photo and having spent the last 4 days teadiosly uploading my cd's to the itunes V6 lirary. Then boringly loading them down into the ipod all loks well. Until when i look at the itunes library all the songs and the song lists are shaded/faded and will not allow m met to access them!
Please tell me i have not got to put all my cd's back on and go through that rigmoroll again PLEASE Help. I have to say Cd players seem to be a little less problamtic/ Also Where do I download my photos and into what ?
Any help very grateful
Katie.

are you sure you are looking at he lists in the iTunes library and not the lists on the iPOd (which would be faded/gray if you are autosynching)
Whatever the issue you now have your cd's on your PC so you don't have to rip them again

    help. please
I have a 60gb ipod, it was working ok, but i loaned it to my dad for a week (he took it on holiday, but took care of it)...
the only thing that changed was he reformatted it for mac os, so he could put on his itunes collection from his macbook.
i run windows, so i brought it home with me, plugged it in and tried to restore it to factory settings with itunes (yup, got the latest version), but it got about halfway (wiped the drive) before giving me an error saying:
"There was a problem downloading the ipod software for the ipod 'ipod'. The requested resource was not found"
now ive looked everywhere to find the problem, i really have. ive sorted all the network settings (although i am on a funny uni network, which could be an issue) - it accesses the itunes store etc fine. ive deleted the old ipod software from that hidden folder. ive scanned my system drive for errors. i dunno what else to do. please, someone help! it was so much easier when you just had to use the apple restore utility!
pc   Windows XP Pro   60gb ipod video 5g... old fashioned 2.0GHz Pentium 4 PC... Yes ive got my service packs.

Well, i fixed it myself. I took a deep breath and formatted my iPod, then crossed my fingers and hoped iTunes would recognise it... Thankfully it did, and set about restoring the iPod to factory settings. Phew. Very scary...

  • TS1425 My iPod Classic was working fine all day.  Came home and uploaded to voice memos via iTunes, now there is no sound coming from my iPod.  I've used both headphones and a docking station.  The songs don't even begin, they just skip to the next one.

Hi, and welcome to Apple Discussions.
Have you tried resetting the PMU?
I'm not optimistic that this will help any more than the procedures you've already tried, but it won't hurt to try.
Do you still have your OS 9 installation? If so, try booting into OS 9 and see if the problems with the audio are happening there, too. If so, you can bet it's a hardware problem.
How big is your hard drive and how much space remains available on it? If you don't have your OS 9 installation in order to check out whether it's a hardware problem and you have enough available hard drive space, you may want to try an Archive and Install of the OS in order to make sure it isn't an OS X system-wide problem. If that doesn't do it, you could back up your hard drive and restore your software.
All of this may just be spinning your wheels, but it's all stuff you can try before shelling out a lot of money for repairs.

  • My ipod 4g was working fine until i locked the screen but when i tried to turn it back on the screen stays black and its been 3 days. Does anyone know how i could fix this?

my ipod 4g was working fine until i locked the screen but when i tried to turn it back on the screen stays black and its been 3 days. Does anyone know how i could fix this?

    - Charge the iPod for half an hour.  Then reset the iPod:
Reset iPod touch:  Press and hold the On/Off Sleep/Wake button and the Home
button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - if still not working, connect to your computer. If iTunes sees the iPod, restore the iPod.
    - If still problem, place the iPod in recovery mode and then try to restore the iPod.  For recovery mod see:
iPhone and iPod touch: Unable to update or restore

Ok one day out of the blue my ipod just stopped working it wouldnt turn on nothing but after recovering it, it's fine now but there is only one problem my screen wont work i can't do anything on it not even unlock it please someone help!!!!

    Try the following:
    - A reset. Nothing is lost
Reset iPod touch: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Restore from backup
    - Restore to factory settings/new iPod.
If you still have the problem that indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order

  • 3 week old 60gb iPod Photo won't work

I bought a 60gb iPod Photo approximately 3 weeks ago. Very, very happy with my purchase even with the release of the video enabled Pod recently.
Anyway - this morning it refuses to work. It won't power up. Nothing. Blank screen.
Have tried all the resetting suggested in Apple support. Nothing. It just won't power up under any circumstances. (Tried plugging it to AC as well)
    Very frustrated.

Perhaps you should take it back to an Apple Store if possible, to have it checked.

  • My 60gb iPod's Gone YWERCS!! (and that's "screwy" spelled backwards)

My 60gb iPod is either possessed or insane. In the last couple of days it has done the following three things:
    1. All the text reads backwards like a mirror.
    2. The 'G' in RGB is missing... as in, there's no green.
    3. The screen is not centered, and at one point, was actually scrolling vertically. Video would cause it to scroll indefinitely, working through the menus relied on the touchwheel to scroll. (The annoying vertical position scrolling feature would accelerate during video playback if I used the touchwheel).
Standard Solutions not available or not working:
    1. I cannot get the ipod to "Reset" by moving the hold button to the on and off position and holding down menu/select.
    2. I am on the road which means my mac is at home, and since my company laptop is a PC I cannot access my ipod with it, therefore, due to the limited solutions available I am doomed to wait another 2 weeks before a software restore can even be performed.
My guess is this is some kind of virus. Why the text would be backwards and why I would lose the color green doesn't compute in my mental troubleshooting guidebook. And by the way, the reset not working properly is infuriating.

I hope that this helps and fixes your ipod. Hey sorry could not resist the backwards thing, but could not do the word this backward.

  • Help - I have two faulty 60GB iPod Videos

Hopefully someone here can offer some guidance. I have two 60GB iPod Videos (mine and the wife's) which are both two or three years old. Both of them are playing up. Mine freezes and crashes constantly. It starts with random blocks and dots, artifacts and graphical gliches appearing on screen as I navigate (everytime the week clicks the "pattern" changes) and then it will freeze and crash. I then have to do a reboot and then when it comes back on it is okay for a while, it may even play a whole album. Then I start it out of hibernation the next day and it happens again. Apart from that it is okay and it charges, connects to iTunes, etc. I am okay with opening it up to check it out. Anyone know what I have to replace to repair it?
My wife's iPod is something else. It had been missing for a month or so and then we found it at the back of a drawer. It was dead so I charged it, however, once it got passed the "the battery is extremely low" message and booted up proper it then froze my PC and stopped charging. My PC screen froze and only started working again when I disconnected it. I tried charging it on my laptop and the same thing happened - it froze the screen on the laptop. Finally I tried charging it through a wall plug adaptor and again it would not charge it past the low battery message. It works, but literally only for a few songs before the small charge on the battery runs out. Again, anyone know what is required to repair this problem?
I was thinking of either buying a faulty ipod off ebay and try to salvage parts to repair one or both of the above, or just using one to repair the other.
    Any ideas?

Have you tried restoring them to factory settings through itunes? Sounds like from your psot that you've reset them, but not restored them.
    Good luck!

  • 60GB iPod - just needed to reset !

    Hi all,
I've had my 60GB iPod for over a week now with no problems. However, I've just plugged it into my iMac to sync + charge and iTunes has said it cannot read or write to the iPod disk. So I tried the iPod and none of my music (or anything) would play - but I could hear the disk clicking.
I've now had to reset the iPod and this time iTunes works okay and it is copying over my library collection again..
But my worry is if maybe I have a bad disk on this iPod - as I've never had this problem on any other iPods..and surely it isn't right that I've had to reset it..
Would people recommend I get Apple to take it back ? I assume I would get another new one ?
    Thanks,
    Mark

if you hear the drive making clicking sounds, then you should take it to your local Apple Store or send it in for service/replacement

  • Ipod no longer works

I have the 5th Gen Ipod. It worked for about three weeks with me connecting it to my computer. It stopped connecting a few days ago. I reset, reinstalled, I even took it to the Apple store and the restored it for me. I completely had my computer system reinstalled. My ipod worked at the Apple store but will not show up anywhere on my system. I try to use the updater and it freezes on my system. I have been all though the apple web site for troubleshooting and nothing has helped. Is there ANYONE that could help me. It would be greatly appreciated.

Put your ipod in disk mode i.e. pressing "select"+"play" keys, plug it with your PC, a window will pop up and request to do a format, click ok, open the ipod updater and hope it will allow you to do the Restore.

  • IPod hasn't worked since 3.1.3 update

Has anyone else had problems with their iPod after updating the software to 3.1.3? I plugged in my iPod Touch to the PC a few days ago to upload some new music and decided to follow the prompts to update the software. Big mistake.
The iPod hasn’t worked since: I can’t get any further than the screen with the Apple logo. I have restored the device several times and uninstalled and reinstalled iTunes. Plugging the iPod to a different computer suggests the files are copying over from iTunes to the iPod normally – but I can’t access them through the device itself. In fact, I can’t get the iPod to do anything at all.
    Any thoughts anyone?

Maybe it's all that Underoath you put on it... okay, okay. Jokes aside!
Is it under warranty? Yes? Send it in. No? Well, at least you can play around trying to fix it and not risk voiding the warranty.
How long have you had the ipod? Which model? Did you try restoring it in itunes? (I realize you've had trouble getting the computer to recognize it, but it's worth trying it in case it helps!)
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93651 Read this on forcing your ipod into disk mode so that you can reformat it or restore the software.

  • Very upset that I can not put videos on my 5g 60gb ipod

I paid near $600 for a 5g 60gb ipod of which does not come with any software to help one transfer video to the ipod. Apple expects me to use itunes to surf to their website to pay and d/l music videos for $1.99 or movie trailers.
but what if I have a large collection of dvd movies? well apples answer is to cough up $20 for quicktime pro which claims it can do this, help encode movie files for playback on ipod. To make matters worse you ahve to pay another $20 for the mpeg encoder so you can actually encode vob files into .mp4 format.
I admit I paid a bit more for my 5g because i know the issue apple has had with poor batteries so i got a warranty plan. Well for $500 apple will just screw you beccause you have to cough up another $40 for software that claims it can help encode for playback in the ipod, but the truth it the software hangs at 100% and fails to finish.
please explain to me why I have to pay $40 more for something that does not work and which should come included with the ipod 5g 60gb for $500.
I'm looking for a 1 click solution to convert my dvd movies collection into a playable format which i can upload to my ipod with 0 problems from start to end.

I've spent weeks now trying to take a dvd movie I have and putting it on a .mp4 file format and i'm having lousy luck with it. I've tried videora v2.0 and more than half the time the application hangs/crashes when it gets to the end. Also tried imtoo mpeg encoder and imtoo psp video converter and both of these apps will hang when it reaches the end of the movie and it does this randomly. Once in a while the mentioned apps will 100% convert the movie.
When I bought my 5g ipod it was made clear it could play digital video but apple misleads you because they make it sound like, after paying $500 you would have the tools to do it with included for the price. Even after I shelled out extra money for quicktime pro 7 and the mpeg encoder, it still fails. So far 4 apps can not seem to do the job. Its really a hit or miss if it actually converts a file. Thus far I've managed to convert only 3 movies out of 2 dozen dvd movies I've tried, and I experimented on 3 machines to just be sure.
I am not going to pay extra money to send away my ipod to have movies put on it that I already own, thats not a solution. your solution is to throw more money at the problem to fix it when in fact apple needs to seriously rethink about the blunder they have made and correct the problem.
first apple, needs to bundle/add software which can do the job, ie. quicktime pro with the mpeg encoder. This is their answer to the question people are asking "how to put dvd movies on my ipod". Next they need to have real support for the problem. Myself and my friend have been fighting with apple support for the past few weeks in trying to find a working solution to get dvd movies onto my ipod.
Using itunes to download movie trailers to my ipod is not the same as having a real movie. I find no interest in the poor selection of music videos either. I have my own collection. I just want to use what I have.
I find it dishonorable and a disgusting tactic by part of apple to sell a product for $500 that won't even let you take a dvd movie from your collection and enable you to put it on the ipod. I agree there does not seem to be an easy solution to the problem (I've tried other video app solutions which all fail) however I dont see apple making any real efforts and or documenting the issue.
its like when I first bought my 1g ipod and the battery failed after 1 month, it went from 8 hours of use down to 30min and when I called apple for help they said I had to send it in to be replaced for the price of a new one!!!!! and that is a very real fact!!! So now it sound like I should return my ipod, and buy a new ipod thru some website which will preload it with dvd movies. please, gimme a break. if they can do it then why not just document the process to do this and make the software available for owener of 5g ipods so they can in fact put video on their ipod.
now I have a 5g ipod, battery seems fine thus far but there really is no way to put the video one has collected on it, none what so ever and apples solution is buy their software which fails to work too!!!!
for some reason every aplication I've tried seems to hang when it gets to the end of the movie or its some other problem that leads to a dead end.
