60GB Ipod shows 223GB in use and 2,37 GB free

I have a really strange problem with my IPOD 60GB.
When I connect it to my WIndows XP pro PC, then ITunes (also newest version) says that my IPOD has 223,11 GB in use and 2,37GB are free.
I updated the firmware of the IPOD last week und erased all data. After that everything was fine. But today it shows an old IPOD-name ("Ralph" instead of "Ralphs IPOD")in itunes and the same mistake (223GB).
When I'm sync with itunes he stops and said no more free space.
If I look in the settings/about menue of the IPOD:
It is the right name and the capacity is 55.6 GB and available are 49.6.
What I or my IPOD do wrong?
Thanx in advance
Ralph

You have a drive letter conflict in Windows.
Two storage devices (one being your iPod) are trying to use the same drive letter assignement, and iTunes is getting confused.
You need to go into Disk Management and assign a unique drive letter to your iPod (or the other device which is trying to use the same letter as the iPod.)

  • My ipod shows a blue screen and then turns off and wont turn back on. What should I do?

I turned on my iPod touch today and it turned on as usual. I unlocked it and went to play a game. I got tired of the game after about 5 mins so I went to the home screen. I swiped to the previous screen and it showed a blue screen after about 3 seconds. I was sort of surprised as this hadn't ever happened before. It didn't turn itself off so I pressed and held the power and home buttons. It turned off after three seconds. I tried to turn it back on but it wouldn't turn back on. I remembered about what someone said about pressing and holding the power button and the home button. I did so and as expected it turned back on. I unlocked it and the same thing happened again. Blue screen! I turned it off and tried the same thing again. Yet this time when it got to the lock screen, I pressed and held the power button and slid to power off. I didn't want to try turning it on again so I asked this question. WHY DOES MY IPOD SHOW A BLUE SCREEN? (Over and over agin every time I turn it on?) Please help!

  • Ipod shows folder w/ ! and computer wont recognize

sorry if this has been posted on before... I checked the first 5 pages and didn't see anything,
My ipod shows the folder and I followed all of the trouble ideas on the web site but none worked. Even in disk mode the computer did not recognize it. I have no access to my music and my ipod is making wierd sounds through the actual evice, not the head phones.
HELP!!! I have no idea what is wrong and the website has no information on this problem!
p.s. i went to an apple store for help and they told me to schedule an appointment online to bring it in to the store...i have looked for hours and cant find a way to do this. i think they were lying to me.

    Chelsea,
    Try the steps here.
Your Windows PC doesn't recognize iPod
However, from what you describe, it sounds like the iPod requires service.

Btw, just a friendly heads up. You may want to change the wording of your computer profile before the Mods see it.

  • Help my Ipod shows a red cross and nothing else.

    Hey
I've got a Ipod 160GB that is virtually brand new, its about 2 months old, now I've lost the proof of purchase so thats my first problem.
Second problem is I've used the solutions you give me on your website. My Ipod displays a red cross, so i reseted it since it'll normally work, which it didn't, all it did was display Use iTunes to restore, then as soon as i connect it to a PC it shows me the red cross again. So i did try to use iTunes to restore which didn't help since an error message got displayed saying, Ipod can't be restored due to an unknown error. Now it shows me a Red Cross and when i disconnect it from the PC it shows me use iTunes to restore. Everytime that i connect it to my PC it doesn't get picked up, and i've tried everthing that i can think of. I cant put it into disc mode either anymore.
    Does anyone have any ideas?

  • Not all music appears in ipod even though memory used and in i-tunes

How come all my latest music doesn't appear in my ipod. My itunes memory for all music and my ipod memory for music is both about same amount (4.7 gb) and i have no other downloads. It doesnt matter if I resync. I don't wont to have to reset the ipod and resync from scratch again.

When you plug your ipod in a summary screen comes up in itunes for your ipod. Click on the music tab at the top of the summary screen, that is where itunes gets its information on what to sync or not to sync. What are the settings there set to?

  • When trying to load onto my sons ipod shuffle i keep getting the message 'the ipod update server could not be contacted'. The ipod has never been used and has been sitting in a drawer.  It seem to charge but I cannot load any music for him.

Should say, I have tried altering the LAN setting to 'automatically detect settings', updating itunes etc but nothing has worked.  I have a very unhappy 6 year old!

You should not get that message if you are simply trying to load the shuffle with songs from your iTunes library.  If iTunes is trying to Update or Restore the shuffle, and you get that message, try the suggestions in this article

  • HT201210 My ipod shows a white screen and I can't restart it or put it on recovery mode

when I tried to upgrade to the iOS 6 it stopped and then when I tried to restart it, it turn white and now I can't restart it... it always go back to that white screen.

    Recovery Mode
    1. Disconnect the USB cable from the device, but leave the other end of the cable connected to your computer's USB port.
    2. Turn off the device: Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button for a few seconds until the red slider appears, then slide the slider. Wait for the device to turn off.
3.While pressing and holding the Home button, reconnect the USB cable to the device. The device should turn on.
    4. Continue holding the Home button until you see the "Connect to iTunes" screen. When this screen appears, release the Home button. iTunes should alert you that it has detected a device in recovery mode. Click OK, and then click Restore to restore the device.
Note: Data will be lost. You may have to repeat the above many times.

  • From Mac to PC. 3rd gen.iPod shows in Windows and not in iTunes

    3rd Generation iPod version 2.3
Installing on a PC using Windows XP Home Edition
My son gave me his old iPod having just bought the newest version. I already own an iPod shuffle and have not had any difficulties. I would mention however that my son used the iPod with his Mac computer.
My difficulty is that the iPod shows up in Windows and not in iTunes. I just cannot get iTunes to recognize this iPod.
On the settings on the iPod it states my name, the format is Windows and funnily enough all my playlists have been downloaded but not the tunes.
I have uninstalled the iPod shuffle and uninstalled, reinstalled the software registering the new iPod to me and have gone through all the points mentioned on the Apple site on http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93716 many times.
Because I kept getting the balloon “One of the USB Devices attached to this computer has malfunctioned and windows does not recognize it” (Even though it appeared in Disk Drives in Device Manager) I have bought and installed a USB 2.0 port PCI card. I really thought this would be the answer. However the usual balloons came up the first time (after having uninstalled and reinstalled the software yet again). The balloons stated that the hardware device has been installed and ready to use. However nothing appears in iTunes. Upon reconnecting the iPod again in whatever port I am still getting the balloon message “USB device attached to this computer has malfunctioned……………………..” All the USB port function properly with other devices (including the iPod shuffle when the software is uninstalled and installed again giving the shuffles details) and on the Device Manager windows they show as working properly. Still on the iPod “do not disconnect” and nothing on the window in iTunes and everytime I plug it in the same old notice comes up.
Any ideas of a solution would be greatly appreciated.

No reply from this discussion group but if this helps anyone else it would be good.
I reformated iPod by right clicking on disk in My Computer and clicking format.
After many different notices when trying to open I went to http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=304996 and followed the instructions.
The problem was solved and my iPod now appears in iTunes and I am able to sync.

  • Additional purchased storage not showing available to use on ipod, why?

i bought 10 gigs storage for ipod last month. icloud shows 15 gigs total storage and 14 available but usage shows 5 gigs used and 1 available and won't let me download the app i just bought. why?

There is a difference between iCloud storage and storage on your iPod. Purchasing iCloud storage does not give you more storage on your iPod.
To download and install an app the iPod needs storage available equal to about three times the file download size.
If you sync from your iTunes library less storage available is required.
    Does the app/iPod meet this?
