60GB of mess ....
I am new to ipods, but have used MP3 players for quite a while. I have a fairly large audiobook collection 60GB + all in MP3 format, totaling many 100's of hours. I don't even want to consider re-ripping all this from CD again as I just don't have the time, but when setting up the ipod all the files which where on the pc in individual folders have been dumped together in one huge mess.
I think the answer might be to use playlists, but sorting 1000's of files into playlists sounds like a rather time consuming excercise, is there an easier way to import the files in the ipod - even a folder at a time would be OK, so that they stay in their folders, or get placed immediatley and without mucking up the order etc into playlists I may create ? I did try a piece of software what was meant to join the individual MP3 files together and turn them into a single audiobook file, but the resulting files were corrupt and would not play correctly.

You can list your purchase history in your iTunes store account.
Also you should have a purchased music playlist.
The other way of doing it is use the "Kind" column. If you don't see it, go to View>>Options and check "Kind"
Purchased music shows up as "Protected AAC" or for iTunes Plus, "Purchased AAC". You can use Kind to make a smart playlist containing purchased music - if you don't have already have a purchased playlist.
But be very careful about deleting music files and make sure you have good backups in case you make a mistake. Don't rely on the recycle bin - it doesn't usually have room for large numbers of music files.

Zen Vision:m 60gb "Hardware Problem" Error Mess
My Zen Vision:m has been rebuilding after every startup so I decided to use the recovery tool to fix the problem. In the middle of updating the firmware, the process froze, my player rebooted and now it displays an error message that just says "hardware problem". I can't turn off the player, and it just returns to the error message when I reset, not allowing for me to reboot in recovery mode. Any help would be gladly appreciated. Thanks.

The screen is messed up, how do I get it repaired?
I have the 60BG Video IPod, and I believe it needs repairs... A small while back, I was raking leaves while listening to music on it. I just turned it off in my pocket, so I didn't notice anything. Sometime during the next day, when I was going to watch a video, I noticed the screen is messed up. It just looks like someone burned a hole in the display, so nothing comes in correctly. The sound still works, just need to find my way to my sounds blindly... What I think I need to do is get Apple, or whomever, to reaplce the screen, but how do I go about doing so? Where on this site do I go, and what procedures do I go through to do this? I really doubt it's something covered in the warrenty, and I don't really care, I just want to be able to sent it in to get repaired... I want it back to being able to show videos and pictures, instead of it being a 60GB IPod Shuffle...

I bought a 5G 60GB iPod a few days ago, and it has been messing up since I first put songs on it. I have tried to do the 5 R's , but restoring isn't working for me. The other 4 I have been able to do again and again, but everytime I click "Restore" it starts, and I can see the little bar moving, but then it says "There was an error formatting the iPod." or "An error occurred updating or restoring iPod." I make the sure that the iPod is fully charged, and it has only been used with this computer, What Do I Do?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!

1. Open the disk utility, hope your iPod appears there (left hand side), highlight it
2. Go to Tab “Partition”, click either “Delete” or “Partition”, if fails, skip this step and go to 3
3. Go to Tab “Erase” , choose Volume Format as “MAC OS Extended (Journaled), and click Erase, again if fails, skip it and go to 4
4. Same as step 3, but open the “Security Options....” and choose “Zero Out Data” before click Erase. It will take 1 to 2 hours to complete.
5. Eject your iPod and do a Reset
6. Open the iPod Updater and click “Restore”

Windows users having trouble with their iPods should locate a Mac user. In many cases when an iPod won't show up on a PC that it will show up on the Mac. Then it can be restored. When the PC user returns to his computer the iPod will be recognized by the PC, reformatted for the PC, and usable again. By the way, it works in reverse too. A Mac user often can get his iPod back by connecting it to a PC and restoring it.

a. It does not matter whether the format is completed or not, the key is to erase (or partly) the corrupted firmware files on the Hard Drive of the iPod. After that, when the iPod re-connected with a computer, it will be recognized as an fresh external hard drive, it will show up on the iPod updater -
A few hors ago, I was trying to install Ubuntu along side my Mac OS. After making a bootable drive and everything, I decided to make a partition to install and boot Ubuntu into using Disk Utility.
I allocated 60GB as a partition and made it free space. After taking around 20-30 minutes, the partition failed. But the free space still shows up in Disk Utility but now as 260GB! It won't let me drag Mac HD into the free space either! When I click verify disk this is what I get

I try clicking Repair Disk and it shows me an error saying this disk needs to be repaired!
I booted in using Recovery HD and it still won't let me repair disk! What do I do?? I'm very confused and can't understand!

1. Does this external hard drive have to be completely blank? I have an external hard drive but it has stuff on it.
2. Say I manage to clone and boot in, do I just erase Macintosh HD entirely? And this will keep Mountain Lion etc. all intact?
3. And how does one boot in from a USB external? I've done it with bootable pen drives but never with files on an external.
Sorry if some of these may same idiotic and rather simplistic but I still can't figure out how a simple dual boot went wrong and so I'm a bit nervy and don't want to mess anything up further.

10.4.10 messed up my Tomtom One V2
The update seems to have resolved the Tomtom 910 issue, but now it messed up my One V2.
When I connect, it mounts on the desktop without problem, but when I want to explore it, it crashes then eject it so that iI can never see what's in the disk...I just received this email from TomTom Support:

At this point, I’m allowed to inform you that this occurrence - whereas TomTom HOME is not compatible with Mac Core Duo, or similar apple computers- is a known issue and our developers are already working on it. We value our customer's input and appreciate the time you have taken to provide yours. I have forwarded this on to product management for consideration.
This issue normally occurs with the Core Duo processor, since it uses a different architecture than the G4/G5 standard Mac processors. This architecture (i386) is the normal PC architecture. Because of this, the Mac OS had to be completely redesigned or hybridized to work with this new architecture. Unfortunately, TomTom was written only for the regular Tiger OS and not the new Hybrid OS, thus it is not fully compatible. Sometimes it works, many it doesn’t.
As far as if this will change in the future, TomTom will have to adopt everything for this new OS due to the core duo’s popularity. And we are currently working on the software enhancement that will handle this anomaly; but unfortunately, we do not currently have definitive information regarding this upgrade's availability. We will let you know through the TomTom newsletters when this information becomes available.

Replacing T60 60GB HDD with Western Digital Passport 160GB HDD
I'm looking to swap my internal 60GB hard drive with my 160GB WD Passport. Because my external is a 2.5" drive I would imagine this could be possible but I'm hessitant to try it and possibly mess up my only computer and my external. I doubt that this is possible, you need a drive with SATA interface for your T60.
To each his/hers own, but with today's prices of SATA drives, why even bother...

60gb ipod updating wont stop and wont update
I just bought this ipod. I got everything connecting. I updated itunes to the latest.
Now when I connect my ipod to the the computer and go into itunes it asks me if I want to update my ipod. So I click yes and then the ipod disconnects. The screen that says "Do not disconnect" goes away and it goes to the main menu and then soon to the "charging screen". While all this is happending itunes has a little box with a blue line moving back and forth that says "Updating 'ipod'...". Nothing is happening at all. My ipod is disconnected, yet still plugged into the computer, there is nothing on the ipod screen that says its updating and itunes is still running that little box. Its been well over 45 minutes and its still doing it and nothing is happening. I check the task manager and it says everything is running. I can go through my menues on my ipod, its surely not updating.
What the heck is going on with this thing? Why isnt it working? And what can I do to get it to work?
I try to add songs and videos and it says that I need to update my ipod software but when I do, this keeps happening. So this basically makes 300 bucks not worth being spent. I am pretty frustrated because I have been messing with this ******* things for hours. Thanks for any help.Same exact problem here. IPod 60gb storage question - filling up too fast?
I have a new 60GB that I just began adding music to. I am confused about the amount of storage I have available. So far (according to the iTunes notes) I have added 93 songs/6.2 hours/427.6mb, using 17.19GB out of 60GB. I am importing using the AAC encoder at 128kbps.
Am I missing something here? I thought the 60GB could hold around 15,000 songs. At this rate, I will fill up the iPod before I hit 1000 songs. I do not have anything else (pics/videos), just music.
Any help would be much appreciated. I am (quite obviously) new to this and can't figure out where I have messed up.

60GB Windows XPI was able to answer my own question here...I had just switched some USB cables around, so when I did my normal back-up to my external hard-drive, it ended up backing up to my iPod. Phew! I am embarrassed, but at least it was an easy fix.

How to connect my 60gb IPOD and my Mac Mini
I have my trusty 60GB ipod (no video), with the older wide connector and the funny USB or whatever it is symbol looks like a "Y".

However... if the headphone/microphone combination has two 3.5mm jack plugs (pink and green) then the microphone output (pink) is "mic.level" - which is TOO QUIET for the audio input on a Mac, which is expecting the much stronger "line.level" signal strength.
Solutions: get a microphone pre-amplifier between the mic and the Mac (not cheap); or a different microphone with a USB interface. -
My MAC runs very slow. Rainbow wheel every time i try to go somewhere. Im a complete MAC novice. Only really use it for iTunes and email. the odd document here and there. The odd spreadsheet. Was brought up on a PC. I would imagine my system is in mess. I think i downloaded that Mackeeper which i have just discovered was not a good idea. I found a thread about EtreCheck and it suggested i posted the report of my machine which i have done.I only have 2GB of space. Not sure how much i have left. My wife keeps putting photos on here like they are going out of fashion. Bought the machine in 2008 because everybody said you have a MAC. I've never really got to grips with it but at least it worked. Now it does not run very well at all. That spinning wheel is driving me mad. The site is hosted by Apple, which does not allow it to be used to distribute harmful software. 5. You may have started the computer in "safe" mode. Preferably, these steps should be taken in “normal” mode, under the conditions in which the problem is reproduced. If the system is now in safe mode and works well enough in normal mode to run the test, restart as usual. If you can only test in safe mode, do that.
6. If you have more than one user, and the one affected by the problem is not an administrator, then please run the test twice: once while logged in as the affected user, and once as an administrator. The results may be different. The user that is created automatically on a new computer when you start it for the first time is an administrator. If you can't log in as an administrator, test as the affected user. Most personal Macs have only one user, and in that case this section doesn’t apply. Don't log in as root.
7. The script is a single long line, all of which must be selected. You can accomplish this easily by triple-clicking anywhere in the line. The whole line will highlight, though you may not see all of it in the browser window, and you can then copy it. If you try to select the line by dragging across the part you can see, you won't get all of it.

Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C.
8. Launch the built-in Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Click anywhere in the Terminal window and paste by pressing command-V. The text you pasted should vanish immediately. If it doesn't, press the return key.
9. If you see an error message in the Terminal window such as "Syntax error" or "Event not found," enter
exec bash
and press return. Then paste the script again.
10. If you're logged in as an administrator, you'll be prompted for your login password. Nothing will be displayed when you type it. You will not see the usual dots in place of typed characters. Make sure caps lock is off. Type carefully and then press return. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you make three failed attempts to enter the password, the test will run anyway, but it will produce less information. In most cases, the difference is not important. If you don't know the password, or if you prefer not to enter it, press the key combination control-C or just press return three times at the password prompt. Again, the script will still run.
If you're not logged in as an administrator, you won't be prompted for a password. The test will still run. It just won't do anything that requires administrator privileges.
11. The test may take a few minutes to run, depending on how many files you have and the speed of the computer. A computer that's abnormally slow may take longer to run the test. While it's running, there will be nothing in the Terminal window and no indication of progress. Wait for the line
[Process completed]
to appear. If you don't see it within half an hour or so, the test probably won't complete in a reasonable time. In that case, close the Terminal window and report what happened. No harm will be done.
12. When the test is complete, quit Terminal. The results will have been copied to the Clipboard automatically. They are not shown in the Terminal window. Please don't copy anything from there. All you have to do is start a reply to this comment and then paste by pressing command-V again.
At the top of the results, there will be a line that begins with the words "Start time." If you don't see that, but instead see a mass of gibberish, you didn't wait for the "Process completed" message to appear in the Terminal window. Please wait for it and try again.
If any private information, such as your name or email address, appears in the results, anonymize it before posting. Usually that won't be necessary.
13. When you post the results, you might see an error message on the web page: "You have included content in your post that is not permitted," or "You are not authorized to post." That's a bug in the forum software. Please post the test results on Pastebin, then post a link here to the page you created.
14. This is a public forum, and others may give you advice based on the results of the test. They speak only for themselves, and I don't necessarily agree with them.

Why does my safari browser frequently gives me a gray screen? I resetted my safari many times and it doesn't help. Also sometimes when I scroll it gives me this weird scrolling effect where everything is either upside or messed up.

I have a record of my email and post regarding my problems with Internet Explorer 11, with my Windows 7, not working and connecting to other sites not nearly working as well as Int. Explorer 10. I was just told by support since I didn't have a case number,
I had no proof. My email account in Microsoft is the same as with Verizon. So, I have proof on this site. Now, after I posted my complaint reg. Int. 11 not working nearly as well with my Windows 7. An employee from Microsoft took control of my computer for
the 2nd time without notice. I was SO VERY clear about wanting to go back from Int.Ex. 11 to Int.Ex.10. An employee actually restored by computer without me asking from 10 back to 11, after I had some issues with hackers. As stated in my emails to you, Int.
Exp. 11 never seemed to be very compatible in working with the add-ons and communicating to other sites. The guy who took over my laptop without permission, I thought was helping, ignored everything I asked for. I worked through the night and for about 10
hours with him. I had to make 16 backup/restore disks, per him doing all the actions through Homegroup. I didn't even know u could take over my computer controls without permission. He made changes after changes, while I mostly kept my hands off the keys throughout
the night and the day yest. I was just putting in disk after disk when it would pop out and he had the notice keep popping up, when he wanted me to change disks. I have not slept or ate for two days, cuz I kept working through hardcore stress. I didn't even
follow what changes he was making cuz it was going to fast with things popping up everywhere. I would just have to ender Adminstrator ID and enter a few items. I did not make an alteration, cuz I did not want to mess it up. He completely ignored my email/post
about consistently wanting to go from Int. Exp. 11 back to 10. I was so ill and tired, that I could barely keep up. After working with him, by just inserting disks mostly, I sent an email at the end to Microsoft saying that I don't think his repairs would
work. This due to many issues, but mainly still not getting the add-ons for my different drivers. I had Google Chrome, Bing and the Int. Exp. 11 I wanted reversed, cuz he still could not get all the add-ons to work, with red checks over them and saying disabled,
as long with other issues. I just kept having to put in my Adminstrator passwords and he used my guest access as well, which I never use. I was so frustrated. NOT NEARLY AS UPSET AS A FEW-FIVE HOURS AGO, when I found it was worse than ever and the main
thing I complained about and asked for, Int. 11 going back to 10, did not happen at all. There was just Int. Exp. 11 and he even took off my Google Chrome. I had no idea that my computer could also look different with different users. Icons being larger and

That just made all the plugins, add-ons, and extensions I wanted to get rid of obsolete and it auto-removed them on its own.

Messed up Windows 8.1 install after using Boot Camp 4 drivers
Hey guys, I just finished successfully installing Windows 8.1 on my Mac with Lion. There were no issues there, but I royally screwed up the Windows partition after trying to install the Boot Camp support software from a USB flash drive. I didn't look into it enough and am now realizing (after the fact of course) that I needed Boot Camp 5.1 for support for Windows 8.1!
I realized that something was wrong when I tried to install the drivers and software from my Boot Camp 4.0.4 and I received a prompt on Windows telling me that it expected Windows 7 instead and then asked me to run in compatibility mode to see if that works. I stupidly clicked yes and then my Windows locked the screen on me. So of course, I unlocked it and the display is all messed up with my battery indicator at the top left, most of the screen is black and a small portion on the right side is not black. It instantly locks itself again. I can only repeat the process with no way to correct it (that I know of).
Is this install of Windows 8.1 salvageable? I am getting the new drivers from Boot Camp 5.1 now, but it won't help if I can't even get to the desktop for Windows. Help!Right - this would be the easiest thing to do. Will I have issues the Windows license being activated again? I have actually never had to reinstall before so I have never had license issues.
