60GB Vid Ipod broken?

Alright i have downlaoded the new update for the vid ipod and i also have the new itunes, while listening to my music on my ipod today i went to choose a song 3 times and each time i chose it the ipod "restarted" so i stoped trying to listen to that song and i went to shuffle songs. while scroling through my songs it froze. now it wont even shut off and the backlight wont go out, its COMPLETLY non responsive. i even hooked up upto my pc and it never made the sound that anything connected or un connected. what should i do? ALSO my new itunes is making my music go weird. ill play a song for about 30 seconds then it goes all crackley. what wrong with it?

Try and add albums for the tracks that don't appear under Artists. It's a glitch that many users have noticed. If you have only one album for a certain artist but you also have some other unsorted songs, those songs will not appear.
Let's say I have AC/DC's Back in Black and I also have the track Highway to ****. If I have no other albums and I look under Artists >> AC/DC, I'll find that the iPod displays Back in Black on the top. Highway to **** will not appear under the listing. If I add on an album name for Highway to ****, then I'll have the choice of choosing between albums under AC/DC.
Edit: What's up with the crappy censorship?

  • Charging 60GB 5G iPod with third party USB chargers

I have a 60GB 5G iPod which charges fine from my PC and an old wall charger that came with my original 1G iPod. However, it will not charge from either a USB wall charger (Swisstravel) or a 12V car USB charger - both of which charge other USB devices (including other iPods...) fine.
Has anyone else had this problem? Any solution?
    Thanks

This has been happening to me over this month and I eventually ended up buying a new wall charger. I think that the chargers wear down after so much use.

  • Pressing sleep button has a wide variety of random effects, is my ipod broken?

I have the relatively new iPod Nano 9th Generation, and I have had it for nearly a year. Everytime I am done selecting a song, I put my iPod to sleep by clicking the sleep button so it continues to play the song, but doesn't waste as much energy on illuminating the screen and such. I do this often, and now the button is becoming more increasingly difficult to press and less technologically responsive. When I press the sleep button now, it either pauses the song, skips the song, reads the songs title, does nothing, just funtions properly, etc. I feel it may have something to do with the jack of my headphones, because when I am not physically contacting the headphone jack (I usually use it as sort of an extender to make it easier to hold on such a small mp3 player), it normally is a little more responsive. I would attempt to use another pair of headphones, but I do not have any left, and do not wish to invest in more if this iPod is nearing its breaking point.
So, the big question. Is my iPod broken?

It also effects other buttons aswell, such as the increase and decrease volume. They still have the same effect as the sleep button however. All on screen buttons work just fine, it is just the physical buttons. I have recently tried different headphones and the same thing happens so it isn't the jack I don't believe, and there is no easy was to test without headphones altogether because there are no internal speakers to tell me whether it pauses, or reads the song information with siri's voice, or skips to the next song, etc..
If you were unaware, this is the type of iPod I own. It is roughly 2 inches by 2 inches and the jack is plugged into the bottom right of the iPod while the buttons are placed on the top.
From left to right, the buttons order is: Decrease Volume, Increase Volume, Sleep Button.

    No. See the following:

  • Upgrade from 20GB 3G to 60GB Color iPod

Am considering upgrading from my current 3G 20GB to a 60GB Color iPod.
Generally, for those who have done something similar - - are you pleased?
Specifically, what 3G accessories would I be able to use with the 60GB color? (The 60GB color is a little 'thicker' than the 20GB color, I think, but I'm not sure how it compares to the 20GB 3G). Can one use the 3G docks? (I have two.) What about cables (I know I'll have to get a new A/V cable to do slideshows, but can 3G cables do sound only.) Car adapters (cassette?). Car chargers?
    Thanks for any info.
    - - Scott

Anything that plugs into the top or bottom (cables, car/tape adapters) will work.
Your docks won't. The 60 GB is the thickest dockable iPod, and I can't even come close to getting it into either of the docks around my house (4G 20 and a 3G 20).

  • Error 1418 after ipod 60GB vid skipped then froze competely.

My ipod 60GB video started to skip tracks, then froze completely. I tried the resetting and this helped to get normal screen back but minus all my music. Next I tried restoring but it came up with above error message. I seem now to have tried everything - I've updated newest version of itunes, I've also tried by downloading to version that came with CD. I have tried connecting iPod to a different USB port, I have re-register .dll files as described in article #304996, I have reinstall Windows USB drivers... The only thing I haven't been able to try is the suggesting of someones to connect to ipon and whilst new version of firmware is installing, 'safely removing hardware' in task bar and removing then reinstalling ipod. I'm struggling with this final suggestion as when I start up itunes, it doesn't come up with the message about a new version of firmware over 1.2' etc... and if it did, I can't see where the task bar is.
I am soooo missing my ipod - If anyone can help (itunes support couldn't - they just emailed me above suggestions) I would love them forever!!!! My computer is over 5 years old- could it me that?

This just happened to my 30GB Ipod. Any advice?

  • After restoring 60gb photo ipod showing only 16gb memory - help?

Ipod was working fine until one day a folder icon came up with the apple web address. It then suddenly reset itself and showed none of my music or photos (there was about 25gb on it).
I then tried updating the software - it was up to date.
    I then restored it.
When I attempted to add my music back on the ipod it told me there was not enough room. When I checked, the ipod was showing that there was only 16gb of free memory. When I checked the properties of the ipod through my computer it shows used space 20.2gb and free space 16gb. This still doesn't add up to the 60gb it is supposed to be.
    Can anyone help me?

Spooke to Apple - £189 to repair. It is a replacement of my original so the warranty is finished (even though it was replaced last May - within a year from when it died - you don't get a full year warranty on the replacement).
Once repaired would only be guaranteed for 90 days. Not worth it when I can get a new one for not much more.
Have bought a new one. If this lasts only a year or less it will be my last ipod! They are easy to use but not convinced by longevity!
Anyone got any suggestions for what to do with a broken ipod

  • All new iPods broken (?)

    hey everybody,
my old, 3rd gen iPod broke a while ago, so I got a new 60GB 5th gen to fill the gaping hole in my heart ... :P
anyway, i got it engraved, so it came straight from the factory in China, complete with the latest software etc. first of all, it was USB, which i think is stupid, because i don't have USB 2, but w/e. then, i found out it was pre-formatted in FAT32 (WINDOWZ eww). after reformatting it with the ipod update, i attempted to load my music onto it. however, iTunes kept on spitting this error message out, "cannot read or write to disk" every 100 songs or so.
i returned it, and got another one.
this time, it was the right format, but it had the same problem.
i returned it and got another one.
    same problem.
i returned it and got another one.
THE SAME PROBLEM!!! AAARGHHHH! needless to say I am pretty p**d off at apple right now ...
well, I looked at this article, and narrowed the possible problems to these things:
    1. broken HD in iPod
    2. bad cable
    3. bad USB chip
I don't have a PCI slot on my PowerBook and I don't know if i can swap the chip, the cable looks fine, and I hope that apple hasn't lowered its standards to the point that i got 4 bad hard drives in a row.
I am trying to load 9,000 songs to my iPod in a single session, could that be a problem?
sorry, this is a monstrosity of a post, but I need this fixed by the end of the week, i am leaving to europe for the summer.
    cheers,
    -lpod

Since your powerbook doesn't have USB 2.0, and never will, you are stuck using USB 1.1 for syncing.
While USB 1.1 has a theoretical maximum transfer speed of 12Mb per second, you will really only get about half that.
I'm ballparking the size of your library to be about 30-35GB, maybe larger.
It would take hours to transfer that entire library at once.
What may be happening is your powerbook is going into sleep mode, or standby mode during the transfer which is causing the USB sync to get interrupted.
I don't think the problem is the USB ports, cables or the iPods themselves. I think this is simply the result of trying to transfer too much data at once over a very slow link.

  • Help me please! 60gb video ipod will it work on imac g3

I've got an imac g3 333mhz and for christmas got an ipod video 60gb, I was using system 9.1 but have installed 9.2 and 10.1 to run along side each other, however 10.1 is not happy!
I know I need to download 10.2.8 or 10.3.4 but how, none of the updates go from 10.1 that high, do I need to buy 10.2 from somewhere, and will it work if I do, is my mac going to be compatible with my ipod or do I need to buy a new mac, sorry to be so wet, I haven't updated in years but so want to be able to use my pressy, please help me.

The new iPod requires at least OX X 10.3.9 or later.
Any upgrade to a 10.3.x or later will be purchased upgrade for you. There are no free downloads to upgrade a 10.1.x machine to 10.2.x, 10.3.x or 10.4.x.
What are the full specs of your computer? RAM, HD size, etc. You might need to upgrade your computer hardware in order to even install 10.3.9 on your machine successfully.
Macs do last quite a long time, and I'm sure your machine still has life left in it... but you might want to consider purchasing a newer Mac. Yours is certainly outdated.

  • Can't sync game with 60GB Video iPod

This morning I purchased Phase for my iPod. (5thG 60GB Video) And I can not sync this game to my iPod. I get the error {The game "Phase" was not copied to the iPod "mcarrolls iPod" because you are not authorized to play it on this computer.} I normally don't sync my music, just manually add content to my iPod, But I checked Sync Games in my iPod tab and I get the error. Then I went as far as to snyc my entire library, deleting hours of ipod formatted video I encoded myself from my ipod, but still wasn't able to get the game to sync. I decided to try a restore, since my iPod was practically empty, still no luck. I purchased an album in iTunes and am able to both sync, and manually add that purchased album to my ipod. Now I have an empty iPod and still can't get my purchased game on to my iPod. Any help?

Hey mcarroll, how did you get Phase to sync onto your iPod? The same problem occurred with me actually so i probably have to do the same as you did. So, in other words, how did you actually authorize DRM software to be eligible to be synced onto your iPod? Where did you go in settings/preferences that eventually granted you the ability to sync "Phase" onto your iPod? Thanks for letting me know!

  • Using my 60GB black ipod in my car

i recently purchased this ipod, and decided to get the silver dlo docking/charging system for my car. this is the one that you simply plug into the power outlet, where a cig lighter normally is. everything works fine, except for the tiny detail that its not corresponding with my equally expensive sound system (amp and woofers). i'm not sure what the problem is, but hopefully it is something simple. i just wanted some feedback before i took it to my audio guy. anybody have any suggestions?

    > silver dlo docking/charging system the one that you simply plug into the power outlet, its not corresponding with my equally expensive sound system (amp and woofers)
I too have DLO Docking cradle and a 60GB Black pod. Mine works great. I tried a number of different FM transmitters and docks prior to the DLO.
I recently had a variety of rental cars and found that while the DLO offered a rich full sound with my Mustang, a Mazda mini-van and was fine with a KIA, it was okay with a Porsche Boxtser, lousy with a Dodge Durango, and just a tad better with a Nissan Xtreme. My conclusion was that it depends on the vehicle. The physical distance to the radio seemed to have some effect in the vehicles when there was not ideal transmission.
Since you have amps and woofers (and an audio guy!) I think I would opt for the hardwired plug in that goes directly to your audio system. But failing that, yeah, it sounds like there is an internal issue with your stereo that prevents the reception of the signal. The alternative, of course, is to keep buying different FM transmitters until you find the optimal combination for your vehicle. That's what I did.
    Good luck!

  • Is my iPod broken?

  • UK complaint or help line needed. 3 ipods broken out of 3.

Does anyone have a UK telephone number (that someone will answer) so I can complain about 2 ipods that I have purchased. A "help line" would be even better but I doubt if they have such a thing. I am so far disgusted about the lack of customer service. I have purchased 2 ipods. One stopped working some time ago so we got a replacement. Now the replacement has also stopped working. (That is 3 rubbish ipods out of 3). My daughter threw her ipod in the bin today she was so fed up with it. It felt good!!! If you have a UK phone number or email address please let me know. I have been through the Apple web site and had no success so I thought I would try this complaints site. Looking at the thousands of complaints on this site I can see that I am not on my own!

Thanks for your help. I called the help line and sure enough the helpful assistant I got through to a young lady in Greece (her English was about as bad line as the line but never mind). We had along chat and went through all the different things that could have been the problem but eventually she admitted the ipod was broken. She gave me a web site to go on so to send it back to Crapple (sorry I mean Apple). THIS IS TO REPLACE MY REPLACEMENT IPOD THAT HAD ALREADY BROKE. I followed the instructions and at the end the web site said because it was 1 year and 2 week since I purchased the ipod I had to pay £130!!!! Now bare in mind that I had I purchased it for my son for Christmas last year and it went wrong shortly afterwards – broke for about 2 –3 weeks before I got through to Apple and then I send it back and they had it for at least 6 weeks and then it broke again before getting to this stage I thing they are take the p**s. I isn't me - my daughter had an ipod and it uploaded fine on the same computer. Although with hers as soon as the ipod is taken out of the charger the battery goes off- she kept her ipod in her bedroom before we had the burning ceremony at the weekend.
