  • 60i footage to 24p

Please understand that i am a rookie.
I have read other posts but i am a little confused. I am recording some footage in 24p, but it really records it in 60i. i=interlaced so the picture is not really progressive right? I am using a Canon HF S10.
So I log and transfer and it brings it in to FCP at ( 29.97/Apple Pro Res 422/Square Pix ) in its own clip. I did not see a way to change that.
I import to the new sequence, say yes to change settings. Changes to ( 1920x1080/HDTV 1080i (16x9)/Odd Field Dominace/29.97 Edit TimeBase/Apple ProRes 422).
I export with current settings. Open with quicktime and there is interlaced video. I export with Apple Pro Res 422 (HQ) 1920x1080 24p, there are interlaced lines and in some areas looks worse.
My final plan is to record to Blu-Ray in 24p, and also export the best possible dvd.
What tricks do i need to do so that I get the 60i footage to 24p into Final Cut Pro for editing, and make sure i export that way?
Also i know that Apple Pro Res is awsome to work with, but it requires alot of space. What is the next down version that i could use that will still produce good quality DVDs.
    Thank you in advance....

  • 60i footage into 24p sequence

    Hi,
I have 60i footage that I want to import into a 24p sequence. The scene was filmed in 60i specifically because I want to slow it down 50% in my premiere sequence and the 24p does not allow for good slow motion.
My concerns are how to do it, and how to (if necessary) de-interlace the 60i?
    Thanks!

  • Is it Possible to Convert 60i Footage to 24p?

I was wondering if it's possible to convert footage shot in 60i to 24p and if it'll look good.
Like, if I took 60i footage and put it out at 24 FPS in progressive scan through compressor, would it take out the correct frames? Or would it look all weird?
Just curious if it looks good and if there's a good way to do it.

Probably your best bet would be http://www.nattress.com and his standards converter. Moves 60i to 24.
    Good luck,

  • 30p or 60i conversion to 24p...

i am making a section for a mountain bike movie for one of my friends...i will be able to film it on my camera in eithere 30p or 60i... well the company i will be sending the segment too wants everything in 24p because it will be mixed in with some 16mm footage and other 24p footage (dvx100b) sooo is there a way to convert it in final cut pro? or a stand alone app i can get for mac to do this?
    thanks.

As Jerry said, better to get a camera that does 24P. If that is impossible, I'd go for Nattress Film Effects - http://nattress.com - and shoot 60i.
But my true second choice would be to shoot it at 30P and edit it into a 29.97 timeline along with the 16mm footage as it will have been transfered with a pulldown. I think that would give you the best results. I honestly think that 30P will give you a better temporal resolution for activity like mountain biking than mock 24P...

  • Can FCE convert PF24 (24p @ 60i) into true 24p?

I am looking at purchasing a Canon HF-S100 which can shoot in 24p @ 60i. I use FCE 4. Is it possible to have FCE4 or some other program take this footage and convert it to true 24p? If not, can it be done with FC Pro? Thanks for the help!
    Brian

FCE does not support 24p media. You need FCS. You would need to completely decompressed the media into another format. Compressor can do it. At high quality it's a very slow process.

  • Can Apple tools convert 1080 (60i) HDV to 24p ProRes well?

Folks, I have video that's HDV (1440x1080) at 60i that I need to convert to 24p. I have not been able to successfully do this transcode and have smooth result.
Are any of the Apple tools up for this task or do I need to look elsewhere for third party tools? I've tries several variations of compressor settings to see if I can get smooth playback, but instead the results are choppy and occasionally smooth for a moment.
    Thanks.

If you have to mix the footage, you might try adding pulldown to the 24P footage to make it run at 30. I believe Graeme's Standards converter will add pulldown - or Shake. Then you can cut the 30fps footage into a 60i timeline...
As to dealing with HDV native timeline - maybe you should edit in a AIC timeline?

  • 1080 60i 1080 25/24p Whats required?

I currently have a large amount of footage that is 1080 60i that i need to convert into 1080 25 or 24p for the 'film look'. Does FCProHD allow you to do this? If so whats best and quickest way of doing it as i have a large amount of footage and time is a factor? If not can anyone point me in the right direction for alternative software? Many thanks:-)

Take a look at Graeme Nattress's Standards Conversion Filters.
Not sure if they will do exactly what you want, but if you have any questions, Graeme is usually pretty quick to reply to an e-mail.
    good luck.

  • Editing 60i footage at 24p (slowing it down so it plays at 80% speed

    Hello,
So i need to cut a montage from 60i video that is going to go into a 24p timeline... I'd love to treat the footage as if it was shot at 24p (seperate the fields and slow it down 80%) so i could just cut it in and be done with it... any idea how to do this?

Well, the easiest way I can think of is to load the clip into Cinema Tools and resolve it to 23.98 fps. That just changes the frame rate. Separating the fields, BTW, won't do anything for you.

  • 60p/60i Conversion to 24p - Best Practices?

Our studio recently purchased a new camera for some run-and-gun shooting. Unfortunately, it does not support 24p natively, only 60p & 60i. It does, however, support shutter speeds from 1/2 all the way to 1/4000. What advice can you give regarding pulldown conversion into a 24p project, both for camera settings and FCPX?
Please note that I'm looking for 1:1 speed, NOT slow-mo.

Manually create an FCPX project that is 24p (select Custom Video Properties and from the Rate dropdown, select 23.98p from the dialog ). When you apply your 60p/60i clips to the storyline, FCPX will automatically "conform" your clips to the new frame rate.
Your shutter speed has nothing to do with frame rate. It does, however, affect the appearance of the video. The higher the shutter speed, the more "juttery" the video will appear. The best frame rate for a 24p finished product is 1/48th of a second (or the next nearest available shutter speed, e.g.: 1/50th or 1/60th of a second.)  You can probably get away with up to about 1/100th of a second, but beyond that you will probably start noticing the severe lack of motion blur (e.g.: a bird flying will start to visually appear more than once in the video - two distinct images along its flight path.)

  • Best way to merge 4:3 60i footage with 24p 16:9 on timeline?

I've got footage shot off a Canon XL2 16:9 24pa and footage off a Sony Handycam shot in 4:3 60i. I'd like to get the Sony footage to sit on my timeline but take up the width of the widescreen instead of being a blocky square... Is there anyway to accomplish this?
    Thanks,
    glenn

Your sort of going about it backwards. Assuming you dont want to finish anamorphic, You should work with a 4:3 timeline and cut your 16:9 footage into that timeline leaving it letterboxed. Then to match the look you should letterbox the 4:3 footage, assuming it was shot to compensate for that cropping. You could always reposition that footage vertically if that helps.

  • 60i, 30p or 24p Frame Rates?

I have a Canon XL2 and it allows me to record in 3 different frame rates. I'm wondering if you guys can tell me which one is the best for most all recordings such as weddings and things. Also, I was recording, pausing, and changing those settings during a single recording and when loading into FCP I get time code errors and had trouble getting them to load. Is this normal or is something else maybe wrong?
    Thanks,
    glenn

Your best bet is to experiment with each and see what you like. Stuff I do either ends up on the web or on a DVD so I usually shoot the 24p Advanced on my DVX... the XL2 has the same setting.
That will let you REMOVE the cadence it adds and actually edit in 24frames per second.
However... when you shoot that mode, NEVER:
    1) turn the camera off without stopping the record with the red button
    2) review your material and start recording again
    3) Don't trust the find-end-frame feature either
That said... the rest is easy.
If you do have different scene styles recorded on the same tape, use the log and capture feature to get it off the tape.
    Also, read this page:
    http://www.adamwilt.com/24p/
It deals with the DVX, but the XL2 is the Canon answer to it and has all the same tc features.
    Good luck,

  • Is there another way (other than in Cinema Tools) to conform 60i footage to 24p?

I just upgraded to Lion and it killed Cinema Tools and I don't want to upgrade to FCPx yet. Please help! I need to make some slo-mo clips ASAP.

This is what digital signatures are all about. Not all signatures do this, but a properly set up one will use a time server maintained by a trusted party, and that time will be stored as an irrevocable proof.
If you didn't sign it, or the signature used the computer's clock - no.

  • I am filming a musical tomorrow so need a reply ASAP! Should i shoot in 24p or 60i?

Obviously i know the difference between progressive and interlaced, the thing is i am using my cam which is the Sony HXR-NX5U and my secondary camera, the Sony CX580V only has the option to record in 24p, 60i, or 60p. My HXR cam can do 60i, 30p, and 24p. I know for the most part you want progressive, but given that it is a musical, i'm not sure if the higher frame rate would be more appropriate or not? Any advice would be appreciated!  I know it isn't technically adobe premiere pro related (even though thats the software i use, but you guys know stuff!! Help!)

I know for the most part you want progressive
That's not necessarily true.  For Blu-ray or DVD delivery, 30i would be the better option over 30p or 60p, as 30i can go onto disk "as-is", without any frame rate conversions.
I think the choice on this is purely aesthetic.  Do you want the look of film (24p) or the look of video (30i)?
Personally, I shoot everything at 24 fps these days.

  • 24P to 60i for slo-mo???

They didn't listen to me, I told them to shoot it in 60i and I'd convert it to 24p later. So my H-wood (we've been doing videos for 15 years) friends are now whining and of course blaming the medium for their choppy, strobing slo-mo. Anyway to convert back to 60i from a 24p source? Graeme, Patrick, anyone??? Thanx.

First of all, you don't have to guess at the codec - If you're using DV, select DV - if you're using Uncompressed 8 bit, well you get the idea. To set the frame rate in Compressor 2, go to the encoder panel and click on the Video Settings button here:
Then select the appropriate frame rate thus:
    make sense?
