61 XL Cartridge Issues

I just intalled a new 61XL ink cartridge in my HP Officejet 4635. On some pages it is printing fine, on some pages it is not printing multiple letters and words, and on some pages it is leaving out randomly placed letters. I have used this type of ink cartridge with my printer before without any problems. I made sure to print the alignment page and had everything aligned. I am not getting any error messages on the printer.
Thanks for your help!

Hello SJ2000,
Welcome to the HP Support Forums! I see when you are printing to your HP Officejet 4635, you are having some intermittent print quality issues, with no error messages.
I would like to start here: Fixing Ink Streaks, Faded Prints, and Other Common Print Quality Problems, please make sure to clean inside the OJ 4635 as well. Complete all troubleshooting steps in order to resolve the issue you are experiencing. I believe the printer and cartridges just need a good cleaning.
I hope this helps!
Thanks,

  • HP Laserjet 4050 toner cartridge issue

I look after a laserjet 4050 printer for a company. They recently started using a new toner cartridge (higher quality) but they have started to have issues with black ink lines down one side of the paper. They have sent back toner cartridges (thinking them to be faulty) but cartridges are fine.
Is this a printer issue or is there an issue with the toner cartridge and the 4050 printer (not compatable)

I think I may have the solution to your problem. I do not think the toner is your problem here. From my experience i would suggest that your printer may need to be cleaned. I had a client who had a similar problem with his printer, what you should try doing is the following:
If toner specks appear on the front or back side of your print jobs, follow the procedure below to clean the paper path.
    Using the printer cleaning page
From the printer’s control panel, do the following:
Press MENU until "Print Quality Menu" appears.
Press ITEM until "Create Cleaning Page" appears.
Press SELECT to create the cleaning page.
Follow the instructions on the cleaning page to complete the cleaning process.
NOTE: In order for the cleaning page to work properly, print the page on copier grade paper (not bond or rough paper).
You might need to create a cleaning page more than once. When toner has been cleaned from inside the printer, shiny black spots will appear on the page’s black strip.
To ensure good print quality with certain types of paper, use the cleaning page every time that the print cartridge is replaced.
I am confident that your toner should print clear pages after this.

  • 7510 Photosmart Cartridge issues

Hi - We recently tried to replace the ink cartridges for our HP 7510 Photosmart.  We have always used 564 Cartridges but these don't seem to be available and 364 are the new replacements as per the HP compatibility charts. Unfortunately we keep getting incompatible cartridge error. We have reinstalled drivers, power cycled, reinstalled cartridges - all at no avail.  Has anyone experienced this?

    Hi golfnrun,
Welcome to the HP Forums! I see that you cannot find the HP 564 cartridges for your HP Photosmart 7510, and only 364 cartridges are available. I am happy to help you with this issue!
It sounds to me that you have most likely moved to another location, that does not carry the 564 cartridges. Your printer will need to be regionalized in order to use the 364 cartridges you have. Please call our technical support at 800-474-6836 in the area you live to get your printer regionalized. If you live outside the US/Canada Region, please click the link below to get the support number for your region. Country-language selector.

  • About Ready To Throw Printer In The Trash!! Cartridge Issues!! Help Please:)

I have an all in one 3135 Photosmart. I can scan fine, the issues are related to printing. I have the blinking top 2 lights only, the check paper and check cartridge. I went thru all the online troubleshooting steps. I do get an error on my computer that says carriage jam but the carriage moves freely and there is no paper inside.
Also... I feel like a real idiot now... why do I have FOUR print cartridges? There are two on the carriage itself and two on the right side of the printer. I used to be a systems manager but I've had a stroke and now things like this are causing my mind to just blank.
I tried to follow the steps to remove the two print cartridges on the carriage but I can only unseat them, not remove them at all.
Somebody help please... I am probably doing something incredibly stupid. Thanks!!!

The cartridges are only accessible for replacement on the right side of the printer.  It is possible an extra set of cartridges have been installed in the right side slot while there were still cartridges in the carriage.  Your printer only holds two cartridges, if there are four installed I would suggest you remove the two in the right side, then turn on the printer, open the carriage access door and allow the carriage to move to the right to change the cartridges in the printer.  At this point both sets of cartridges may be damaged, as they may have sat from some time outside the protective caps.  You may need to run a few cleaning cycles after the cartridges are reseated properly.
The video here may help resolve the issue.

    Hello shak0077,
    Welcome to the HP Forums.
I see that you are having an issue with a ink cartridge and an error code on the printer.
I do have a few troubleshooting steps we can try in the attempt to resolve the issue for you.
First off, please make sure that you have the printer power cable connected directly to a wall outlet and not a power bar/strip. Here is a document that uses a LaserJet printer as an example but it is meant for HP products in general. Please click on the following link that explains the Issues when Connected to an Uninterruptible Power Supply/Power Strip/Surge Protector.
I have also located a document that deals with A 'Cartridge Problem,' 'Ink Cartridge Failure,' or 'Incompatible Ink Cartridges' Error Message Disp....
Please feel free to write me back if you are still having issues or if you have any other questions or concerns.

  • HP Envy 5530 - Printer Cartridge Issues

I have had my HP Envy 5530 for about 6 months now.  It used its first set of cartridges (HP61) and was half way through the second set of cardtridges when an error appeared reading:
"The indicated cartridges are not compatible...."
I know for a fact that the second set of cartridges are brand new HP61 cartridges.  They worked for quite a while and then the error occurred.
Thinking that the second set of cartridges had a problem I purchased another set of brand new HP 61 cartridges.  Immediately the same error occurred.
I tried everything to get the printer to work to no avail.
Please help me out on this HP techs.

  • Ink/Cartridge issue with my OfficeJet Pro 8500A Plus

My OfficeJet Pro 8500A Plus has been drinking color ink.  We rarely print color, as we purchased this unit for its fax/copy capabilities (almost all B&W).   Upon recent replacement of the Cyan and Yellow cartridges, the system refuses to operate.  The status on the Cyan cartridge has a question mark "?" and reads empty.  This is a brand new cartridge.  Upon pulling the cartridge, it clearly has ink in it.  There seems to be a lot of ink build up in the port where the cartridge connects to the printer.
The Yellow cartridge status reads empty with an exclamation point "!".  This is also a new cartridge.  No sign of leakage, when I pulled the cartridge to examine.
What do I need to do to "fix" this situation, as I need the unit to be operational to receive faxes.  If the unit is beyond (my) repair, can you suggest a replacement printer that uses the 940 series of ink cartridges, as I have a small stockpile of them.
    Thanks and Kind Regards,
    Steve

I have the same problem! The 8500A Plus (A910g) won't print after I replaced with a new magenta cartridge.  I get the following message "replace the following depleted ink cartridge to resume printing."  I bought another HP cartridge from best buy and got the same message.  I then took all the cartridges out and noticed at the base of the cartridges slots that it was a pool of redish pinkage ink in all cartridge slots.  It is like the magenta ink port is wide open and depleting the ink within seconds.  What is going on here, a defect in the printer?

  • Hp c4180 cartridge issue

I have a photosmart C4180. I recently inserted a new black ink cartridge but the printer has refused to acknowledge this. Evertime I turn the printer on the message "insert black or photo print cartridge into slot on right" appears on the printer blue screen. This disables all the printer buttons such as scan or copy. However the printer works fine when I print word or image documents from the computer and the black ink from the cartridge is succesfully used in these print jobs. So the ink cartridge must be fitted properly and must be compatible, otherwise these print jobs would surely fail.
This is a deeply irritating problem as to copy documents I have to load up the hp software, scan the document using that software and print from photoshop. The whole process is taking me forever when I used to just press the copy buttons on the front of the printer. A solution would be deeply appreciated.
    Many thanks

Try cleaning the cartridge contacts as shown here (for a different cartridge, but same princiiple).

  • Officejet 6600 - cartridge issue - want to throw it out the window!

Seriously annoyed BIG TIME with this HP pile of bleep
New printer, purchased only a few months ago, used up the starter cartridges.
Said magenta needed replacing - so i bought all 4 just in case.....oh how conveniently the other colours were suddenly empty too after i inserted in the magenta......anyway i have replaced all of them now and it STILL keeps coming up saying the Magenta and Yellow are damaged and need replacing.
Seriously someone needs to help me as i am not getting anywhere with it. Its under warranty but how the hell (and why the hell) do i go about getting that sorted too (i am in the UK and cant find anyway of contacting HP in the UK?!?!?!)
Massively regret getting a HP, i never had this sort of problem with the Lexmarkk printer.

found the online help chat. They were very helpful, though ended up replacing the Magenta with a genuine one and that works fine. The yellow (which is a genuine) isnt working still. HP are posting me a replacement Yellow in the hope that it will work then.....if not, its under warranty so they will replace the printer.

  • Compatible Ink Cartridge Issue with HP Photosmart 6520

I bought a HP Photosmart 6520 Printer when living in Germany.  It works in the US as well with a change to the cable. But then I ran out of ink.    I ordered proper HP ink for it (not fake) but I ordered 564XL, because it said it was compatible with the 6520.   But my printer says it's not.  It looks identical to the one I had in, but those were 364XL.  And I see that on the inside door of my printer, it says 364XL.Did I make a mistake?  Why is it listed to work with this printer but it doesn't?  Can I return INK that I've opened up, but not used? Please help. Thanks

Hi, Your printer uses: HP 564 & 564XL in Americas and Asia Pacific (excluding India, China, and Japan),HP 364 & 364XL in Western Europe,HP 178 & 178XL in Middle East, Africa, Japan, and CIS,HP 862 & 862XL in China, India. Now, please contact HP in the US and ask them to show you how to change zone on your printer.    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?cc=us&lc=en&docname=c02558798 Regards.

  • Photosmart Premium C309 printer using Photo black cartridge when it is not printing pictures

My printer has started using the Photo black cartridge a lot more than it used to.  I think it is using the Photo Black even when there are no images on the document.  I have had the printer for about 4 1/2 years, and it just started doing this in the past six months.  I used to only replace that cartridge about every 6 months.  Now I have to replace it about every 2 months even though I am not printing images.  I replaced the photo cartridge 3 days ago, and it is down about a third, and I have printed no images.  I saw something in one of the responses that talked about changing preferences in the Advanced tab of my printer, but the only option I see there for printing is Automatic.  I would appreciate any help I can get before my printer sucks up my bank account!

Hi @smithloi , and welcome to the HP Forums!
I see you're experiencing cartridge issues.  I would like to help!
I'd recommend removing the cartridges, and performing a power reset.  Disconnect the power cord from the printer and the power outlet, then wait 60 seconds. After 60 seconds, plug the printer back in. Ensure you plug the printer directly to a wall outlet. Make sure to bypass any sort of surge protector or power bar.
I'd then suggest running the following updates:
    Critical Update
    HP Update Software Utility
    HP Print Software Patch
Good luck and please let me know the results of your troubleshooting steps. Thank you for posting on the HP Forums!

  • $100 Reward for anyone who can fix this issue

I will give $100 to the first person who can fix the false empty cartridge issue described here:
    http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Other-printing-questions/Ink-cartridge-empty-but-it-s-not/m-p/176836
The fix must eliminate the false error message that a cartridge is empty and enable the printer to resume printing.
As you can see in the link, people have struggled with this problem for years and no consistent fix has been discovered.  I am hoping that a smart person out there can find the cause of this problem and a solution for it.
I suspect that a file or registry entry must be set that indicates a false empty cartridge.  This false entry is retained even when a new cartridge is installed, or the printer software is removed and reinstalled.
Even though many people have worked on this issue over the years, there still may be a creative solution out there.  Let's hear it and if it works you get the money.

    Hi,
    Reward not required nor needed...
But... I didn't see a post in your link about using a newly created utility by hp.  I don't know if there is a fix in the utility although it has fixed some other printer issues... something that could be tried.

  • Office Pro 8000: Can't Print/Out of Ink Error even after installing new cartridge.

When I tried to use my printer a few days ago, I received a "Can't Print: Out of Ink" error message concerning the magenta cartridge.  I had used the printer a few days before that, and had not received a low ink warning.  It seemed suspicious to me that I would have received an empty cartridge error message without first receiving a low cartridge warning.  The yellow and cyan cartridges read 70% full - all 3 were original cartridges.
I purchased a new 940XL magenta cartridge and installed it per instructions.  Now I am getting a message that the new 940XL cartridge is empty.  I can shake the old 940 cartridge and hear liquid inside.  Obviously, the new cartridge is also full.  I've tried cycling power, reinstalling the software, etc, with no change in status.  If I swap back and forth between the old 940 and new 940XL cartridge, they are properly identified by type on my screen as the 940 or 940XL.  Due to the way the problem has presented itself, I don't believe it is a cartridge issue.
Of course, problem first arouse on May 8th, and my warrantee expired April 26th.  Any suggestions?
    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

I've solved my own problem, which was clearly a factory assembly defect.  I looked inside my printer with a flashlight in the area where the ink cartridges are installed, and found magenta ink sprayed inside the printer.  I disassembled the printer, and found that the magenta line had been damaged during assembly.  There are four ink tubes which exit from behind the ink cartridges, then make a U turn back toward the front of the printer.  Just after the U turn, they make another bend up-wards.  It is at this point that I found the damaged magenta line, directly above a screw on the right-hand side of the ink cartridge housing.  The lines are in a very narrow passage, and are held in place by several keepers molded out of plastic.  It appears that the lines were put in place in the keepers, then the screw inserted from above.  As I said, it is a very tight passage, and it would be very easy to damage the ink line at that point if the lines weren't carefully held back to insert the screw during assembly.
To solve the problem, I removed approximately 1/4 inch of damaged magenta ink line.  I carefully cut the line with a sharp razor, to prevent collapsing the line or causing burrs to the tubing.  I then placed about 3/4" of self-sealing heat shrink tubing over one end of the ink line.  Next I spliced the line with a small piece of stiff plastic tubing from the handle of a cotton swab, which was a perfect, snug fit over the ink line.  Being careful not to collapse the ink tube or cause further damage, I gently twisted the ink line back and forth until the ends were butted up inside the cotton swab splice.  I then positioned the heat-shrink tubing over the splice, and shrunk it with a hair dryer.  The heat-shrink tubing I used has hot-melt glue applied to the inside, which further aided in making a leak-proof splice.  Again, there is not a lot of room, so the splice had to be kept small.
I reassembled the printer, reinstalled the ink cartridges, and powered up the printer.  After the normal, long start-up delay, I printed several full-color test sheets, and all was fine.  The magenta cartridge that I had installed previously now shows that it is full, and the remaining cartridges also read the levels that they had prior to disassembly.
