6124 - SMS inbox format

I got a Nokia 6124 classic 10 days ago and initially all was fine. SMS messages I was receiving were in the format 'first name, last name' of the sender, as per the way the way my Contacts are set up.
Then for some unknown reason on Friday, I began receiving SMS messages as 'last name, first name'. It does not appear possible to alter the way SMS messages are received in terms of the sender's details, so I don't understand why this has suddenly started happening.
As an example, I received a message on Thursday from 'John Smith', then on Friday an SMS from that same person was coming through as 'Smith John'. I have separate SMS messages from the same contact in my inbox being displayed in two different ways. However, if I look at the messages in PC suite the 'Smith John' message is being shown as 'John Smith'.
I actually swapped my phone for a new one today, but I have exactly the same problem with the new one. Any help/suggestions anybody could give me would be greatly appreciated as it's really bugging me.

  • SMS inbox doesn't show new messages after upgrading to OS 5.0.0.681. SMS format appears as IM.

My SMS inbox doesnt show new messages and also my Curve 8900 doesnt prompt for any new messages. However, the Mobiso application (which logs calls, texts) shows messages coming in with its text lengths. I asked this to Blackberryhelp on Twitter but it said to contact service provider, but there is nothing wrong with it. The format of the SMS inbox should have something wrong otherwise the Mobiso application should not have logged all messages.
Please help me, i am missing all my daily SMS since last 20 days.

  • No Sender Name in SMS Inbox

I have just changed from a Pearl to a Curve and have a problem displaying the senders name in the SMS inbox even if they are in my Contacts.  I had the same problem on the Pearl but found that if I also saved the contact to the SIM, the name would then appear in the Inbox.
I have tried the same solution on the Curve but it has not worked.  It is driving me mad as I don't know who a text message is from.
Anyone know anything which will help
    Thanks

Hi there Yes, it has to do with the prefix
To fix it go to call log -> smart dialing -> and in "country code" change to your country's code (44 in your case)
That'll fix the name on the messages

  • SMS Inbox full, even after deleted tons of messages.

It says my SMS inbox is full even after I deleted TONS of conversations. What should I do!? I already did reset all settings.
    Help please! =(

for some reason it has to do with the iOS5 update that was released yesterday that I upgraded my 3gs phone on before buying a 4s today.  i've been frustrated with it but just figured it out or at least got mine to work.
i had spent a good bit of today deleting messages thinking that would do it.  i spoke to AT&T (clueless) where I got my new 4s phone today and did some research here on apple's website and was put on hold by an apple rep for an hour today.  from googling i found that your phone supposedly holds 75,000 messages but it must be less than that or have a different way of calculating it than you might think.  here's why.
you have more messages than you think.  a lot of my conversations went back to 2008.  there was one person in particular that i had exchanged a good number of messages with but i wanted to keep those so after deleting messages all day and getting nowhere i decided to figure out how to export SMS messages that i wanted to save.  there is an app called SMS Export and that did the trick.  I ran it and was suprised to see that after all of my deleting today i still had 61,000 messages.  so i exported this one person I had exchanged 20,000 messages with and deleted her messages from my phone leaving me with 41,000.  i restarted my phone and when it booted back up the new texts starting flowing through, 17 in all missed today.
    back in business!

Do a simple reboot of your BlackBerry and look again.
With the BlackBerry device powered ON, remove the battery a few seconds and then reinsert the battery to reboot.

  • SMS inbox full? But not really.

I suddenly got a message a few hours ago that said "Your SMS mailbox is full. New messages cannot be received until you delete some messages." I know my iPhone is nowhere near reaching it's storage capacity and I have had the same messages on there from my last iPhone for a couple years. So it seemed odd. But I deleted a bunch of messages and turned it on and off and I was still unable to receive text messages. I then deleted a bunch of entire conversations and turned it on and off and still couldn't receive texts. I then backed up my iPhone and reset it to factory settings. When I did that it, I received all of the text messages I had been sent in the past few hours. Then, I restored it to its previous backup and again, it said my SMS inbox was full, which makes no sense, since I'd already deleted hundreds. If anyone can help, PLEASE. Thanks.

i also got the error message "Your sms mailbox is full. New messages cannot be received until you delete some messages." and i have more then enough memory ...
i just called apple care and this is what they told me to do
go to  Settings -> General settings -> Reset -> Reset all settings
    this WON'T erase any data!
Then after about 5 mins connect the phone to the computer with iTunes open and then the text messages should come thru
    this worked for me!
hopefully it will work for you too

  • SMS Inbox not accessible. HELP!

Hi and Welcome to the Forums!
Anytime random strange behavior or sluggishness creeps in, the first thing to do is a battery pop reboot. With power ON, remove the back cover and pull out the battery. Wait about a minute then replace the battery and cover. Power up and wait patiently through the long reboot -- ~5 minutes. See if things have returned to good operation. Like all computing devices, BB's suffer from memory leaks and such...with a hard reboot being the best cure.

  • Reading form SMS Inbox

    Hello everyone,.
I am new in developping with J2ME. I have to develop a program for mobile phones that can read sms everytime they get in the inbox. I have been reading about reading them before they get to sms inbox of the phone. I don't know why I should do it. Is it not possible to read them from the phone SMS inbox. I need to be able to read them, before or after they get into the phone sms inbox. I can use any phone or tehcnology. I would appreciate any help you can give me.
    Thanks a lot,
    Jordi

No, not for port 0. That's the default port which you don't need to specify because it's implicit. Like I said, you can't intercept SMS which go into the INBOX. Also, for SMS based applications, there are some ports that a developer should use for this purpose. Don't quite remeber which ones, but you can find them in this forum, as I mentioned thsi in some previous post.

  • Assigning a Hotkey to the SMS Inbox

I would like to assign a hotkey (the one with the envelope to be exact) to my SMS inbox. I would like to be able to reach the SMS inbox with one click, but apparently it is not possible. You can assign to "messages" in general but then its two more clicks to the inbox. I know that for a new SMS message an icon with direct link appears but this is not the point here. Is there any hack or maybe 3rd party app to achieve a direct link to the inbox? This question applies to all E series phones I think. Thanks.

  • Start Messages in SMS Inbox

when I go tot the Messages it's always going the email inbox... is it possible to mkae the default page is SMS inbox?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

The Messages list is a list for all messages, email. sms, pin, etc.  You should have a separate sms/mms inbox.  if you don't, go to Messages >Options and depending on your OS there are settings in there to control whether the sms/mms and email are combined or not.

  • SMS layout/format before update

Hi, i bought my blackberry yestarday and installed the updates that came with the cd -the v5.0 version or something like that- and before the update the way i saw the SMS was different than how it is now. Now, when i'm writing a SMS it looks exactly the same way as if i was writing a BlackBerry Messenger message. I want the layout of the SMS to be as it was before i installed the update. Does anyone know how to do such thing? I don't like the 'writing format' the BB Messenger has and i definetly don't want it to be the same in the SMS format. I'm freacking out, please help me!

Hi, i'm experiencing the same issue. I owned a Nextel 8350i & recently upgraded to a Sprint Bold 9650. On my 8350i, which was running on software 4.5 & used the old SMS/MMS texting format. My Bold operates on 5.0 & I hate that the messages are in an instant message format. I also hate the fact that you are now limited to 160 characters per text. What's up with that??!! I want to use the old format. I've dug around in options to see if I could change it but have been unable to. I have spoken to Sprint tech on the phone & I was told that its a change that was made in the software and cannot be changed unless you go back to older software. I even tried to find a download of device software 4.5 so that I could go back to that but It seems impossible to find. If there's anybody out there who has a link to a download of the device software 4.5, please post it. To me, this should have been an optional change. There should be an option to use the old SMS/MMS style text messaging or to use the new instant message style. If there are any RIM reps out there reading over these questions, then hear me loud & clear, this needs to be changed with the next software update!!!!!!!!!! Give the users an option with the next software. If there is something I'm missing & I can change it back to the old SMS/MMS format without having to use an older software version please let me!

  • E71 - SMS inbox displays Last name then first name...

Hi, can someone please advise how to make the sender's name in the inbox appear as first name then last name and not the other waay around. thanks.

I'm getting the First Name First and then last name , my phone book settings are also the same , maybe that's the reason as it does pick the name from phone book and will display as it's given . Try changing phone book settings , it may not effect the older SMS but newer ones may come fixed

Sorry, but there is no solution. You'll have to think twice before formatting the card next time.
