6220 classic, downloading maps

According to the manual (among other places) One should be able to download maps to the 6220 classic, from the website http://maps.nokia.com. On this page you are informed that "ovi-maps" does not support 6220 classic.
So OK, but how do I download maps to the 6220 classic then.

Assuming that you have latest version of OVI Maps for your device installed from here:
http://europe.nokia.com/support/product-support/maps-support/compatibility-and-download?intc=ncomsup...
You need to run OVI Maps application on your 6220 Classic with memory card in place to initialise and define folder structure needed by OVI Suite > Maps on your PC to allow download of regional maps.

  • Nokia Maps with Nokia 6220 classic

I got a 90 day free trial with Nokia Maps
But everytime I try to use it it says
No Internet Connectoin. Select Options > Tools > Go Online.
I do that and the same thing happens.
All I can see is a light green screen with a red dot in the middle on Nokia Maps
Internet doesn't work for me either.

    Hi nisrin
If you have a generous data plan you can download maps on demand I suppose but not very practical if roaming. As you have found countries covered are listed here with some being navigable (Voice navigation option available) and some being non-navigable in much less detail:http://europe.nokia.com/get-support-and-software/product-support/maps-support/pricing-and-coverage/m...

    Hi zzan

Hi everyone, i recently purchased Nokia 6220 classic and i have some questions.
    1. MicroSD Card
I want a good microSD card(large, fast n stable). Whats the best for 6220c?
According to gsmarena 6220c only supports upto 8G microSD but according to Sandisk website 6220c can support 16G microSDHC. (?)
Can 6220c support microSDHC card with (2 in circle) and (4 in circle) rating? and which one is better?
The 8gb is the one to go for, asputting the 16gb card may make the phone run slow as the processor may not be able to cope
    2. Phone Lock
I can't find this option anywhere. I want the phone to ask the phone unlock pin(~4 digits) when i first turn on the phone.
If you go into the phone settings, then security, you have various ways of locking the phone either by locking the sim card or the phone.
    3. Video Recording.
Screen goes very dark during video recording sometimes, would new firmware fix this? i have Software version: 03.23, Software version date: 27-Jun-2008.
Also is it possible to disable the red light during video recording?
Not sure about the first part, but you cannot disable the lamp it is to let people know they are being recorded I think
    4. GPS, i'm on prepaid, is it possible to get free GPS service? if not which prepaid network would be cheapest for using GPS?
Nokia maps is very good, so long as you download the mapping download software first from Ovi.com to load them to the phone. It only costs about £50.00 (not sure) for the voice prompts as well.
    Thanks in advance.

  • Nokia 6220 Classic and iSync?

I'm trying to get iSync (v.2.0) to recognize my Nokia 6220 Classic phone. But it won't. I've tried downloading the Nokia iSync plug-in from their website, but each time I try to intsall the package, it says
"You cannot install the phoen plug-in on this vlume. Plaese upgrade to the latest evrsion of iSync using Software Update".
However, running Software Update doesn't find a proprietary update. Nor can I find one...?
    Thank you for any advice.

Move your iSync application back into the main Applications folder. You should never move Apple application from the default locations.

  • Fatal error connecting Nokia 6220 Classic

    Hi All
I have just installed the latest PC suite and am having trouble connecting my 6500-Slide & Nokia 6220 Classic.
I have also installed Nokia Software updater.
Basically i had a 6500 slide - this has connected fine no problems at all since i have had it. I have just got a 6220 classic lugged it in and got the following message:
    "Cannot install this hardware"
"There was a problem installing this hardware:
Nokia 6220 classic USB phone parent
An error occured during the installation of this device
    Fatal error during installation
    Click finish to close"
So i downloaded the latest software (Suite & updater) and tried to connect either 6500-s or 6220 Classic via the supplied CA-101 cable and get the same message each time i try to connect either phone!
I have tried uninstalling, re-installing, updating software and am stuck now.
Any help would be really appreciated.

    Hi,
wow, good fix and worked too (for my 6500 slide that is). For the benefit of those reading this post, i will re-post lillyplop's solution here:
Either rename or delete the file: c:\windows\system32\drivers\wdf01000.sys
Then reboot and prob should be fixed.
Also, perhaps nokia, look into the cause of this problem and maybe when nokia pc suite is launched, get it to rename this file then name it back when closed?

  • 6220 classic - camera flash not working

    Hi,
I have a problem with the 6220 classic's camera flash. When I'm taking pictures, sometimes it does not work at all - no matter if I set the flash mode to "always on" or "red eye".
What bugs me is the fact that the flash sometimes decides to work, and sometimes it doesn't. At first, when I tried the camera, the flash was always working (IIRC). Now, it rarely works - sometimes, a photo session seems to work and flash goes off every time, but then, at the next session, I just can't get it to work (by session, I mean taking a bunch of pictures and then turning off the camera mode by turning the switch on the phone).
I tried to figure out what might be going on. At first I tried the phone in a pitch dark place - still, the flash is silent. Then I tried restarting the phone. No luck.
Any ideas what else I might try (maybe trying to fully-charge the phone and then test the flash, maybe reverting the phone to factory settings), before I turn the phone to service?

did you try to update your phone to the latest firmware?
     http://europe.nokia.com/get-support-and-software/download-software/device-software-update
or via FOTA right off your phone.
make sure you always do a back up of your data before doing any of this. if this continues to happen even after update i would take it to nokia care for them to have a look.

  • Ovi Suite upgraded 6220 Classic. Can I bin home sc...

I hadn't backed up my phone in 2 and a half years (I'd previously done so with Nokia PC Suite), so I thought I should create a fresh back-up. To do this I connected the phone to my Dad's PC laptop (running Windows Vista Home Premium) as my own computer is a 10 year old Mac which won't run PC software natively.
The PC detected the phone, automatically installed some 6220 Classic device drivers onto itself, and then asked for permission to update 2 different bits of software on the phone, which it did quite quickly & easily. (The version numbers of these 2 pieces of software both went from 1.0.0 to 1.x.x after the updates were applied - I can't recall the exact version numbers, but one of them became 1.5.x).
After this the PC downloaded & installed PC Suite. At the point where I was asked if I wanted to run PC Suite, I was presented with a button offering me the option to download, install & run Ovi Suite instead. I accepted.
Once Ovi Suite was running, it told me that it wanted to update my phone's software, but to do this it would need to move all the data from the phone to the PC, do the update, and then put everything back again. I agreed, and this (lengthy) process took place. I had to log into my Nokia account near the beginning of this process.
After the process completed & the phone restarted itself, I was asked for permission to re-update the 2 small pieces of software that the PC had originally updated on the phone. (Strangely, after the Ovi Suite wipe & restore, the version numbers had reverted to 1.0.0, but this repeat of the updating took them back to 1.x.x again in both cases).
After everything was complete, I successfully backed all my data up from the phone to the PC.
Because of the Ovi Suite wipe, upgrade & restore, many settings/preferences had reverted to their factory defaults rather than to my preferred settings. I've been able to put everything back to how I like it apart from 2 things:
    1. The main/home/start screen, rather than just having my chosen wallpaper shown, has a row of icons overlaying the top of the wallpaper, with a dotted line below them, a summary of today & tomorrow's calendar entries below that, another dotted line, a "Search: Internet and My content" line, another dotted line, and then a "Share online" line. I can't seem to get rid of all this - is there any way to?
    2. This is related to problem 1. Previously I had the four directions of the "Navi" scroll key (plus the centre button) set to my five preferred commands. Since the upgrade there doesn't seem to be any way to change their functions. Up, down, left & right now move a highlight around the icons & lines referred to in the paragraph above, and the centre key is labelled "Open". If I go to Menu -> Settings -> Phone Settings -> General -> Personalisation -> Standby Mode -> Shortcuts, I can assign whatever I like to the Left & Right selection keys as before, but there are no entries to allow me to assign anything to the Navi scroll key. Instead I can assign whatever I like to Shortcuts 1 through 6 - i.e. I can choose which 6 icons should overlay the top of my wallpaper. The problem is I don't want any icons overlaying my wallpaper, and I want to restore the ability to customise the Navi scroll key's functions on the home screen - is there any way to make things how they were, without somehow wiping the phone & restoring it to how it was before Ovi Suite did its worst?
    Many thanks.
    Solved!

While I was fiddling around with my phone first thing this morning I actually figured out the answers to both problems myself, almost by accident, but many thanks for the reply anyway.
Just to give a precise version of the answer above for the 6200 Classic, anyone in this situation should go to:
Menu -> Settings -> Phone settings -> General -> Personalisation -> Standby mode -> Standby theme
and change "Horizontal icon bar" to "Basic". This will solve problem 1.
Pressing "Back" then "Shortcuts" will reveal that the options to alter the Navi key functionality are now also available (solving problem 2).
    Simple when you know how!

  • 6220 Classic Camera flash

When camera flash is set to Auto, shouldn't flash automatic go off when I take a picture in a dark enviorment? With a dark enviorment I mean that if I don't set the Flash to On the picture will be almost black. I just tried it in a room with no window and no light, still it didn't use the flash. With the N73 it works as expected, the flash goes of, but the 6220 Classic, the flash doesn't go off. Is this a bug in the software or maybee it's just my phone.

  • Silent Camera for Nokia 6220 Classic!?

    Greetings from Helsinki Finland!
Please is somewhere available a silent camera for Nokia 6220 Classic?
This 5 mb camera is great but it makes so horrible noice that it is impossible to take great photos while e.g. my puppy starts to follow that sound and stops playing!
It is no way to make this camera silent in this phone, but I know that a good program download would solve this problem.
    Where might I download one?
    Thank you so much! =)
    Jasima

Looks like they have disabled the ability to turn off camera sounds by disabling the warning tones. There are other solutions, but they also invalidate your warranty, hence we can't discuss them here.
Have a look at this link. The same applies in lots of other countries and the list gets longer by the day.

  • 6220 classic

Just got a 6220 classic - tried connecting with my pc - dont think that really worked. Anyway my phone is now frozen and I cannot switch it on. What can I do ?

    @BIGTONE1
If I remember it correctly after release of Ovi Maps v3.04 an exception was made for two devices E71 & E66 to release v3.03 with free voice navigation, not sure where you got the idea that 6220 Classic ever ran v3.03 from.

  • 6220 classic GPS, satellite?

I'm looking at the 6220 Classic. Just wondering if the GPS can be completely Satellite based only? This is because I'm on a prepaid and do not have much money to spend per month so data is a no no.

You need to pay to get any navigation, not just voice. Without the license Nokia Maps will basically just show your location on the map.
If you are considering paying you should consider a longer license as it works out cheaper than paying by the month or week. I only pay by the week or month if I am going overseas for a holiday.

  • 6220 classic - software update problems

I am trying to use the software updater to update the firmware on my 6220 classic, and although I am connected directly to my laptop via the supplied USB cable (and the phone is being correctly recognised) and have the mains charger plugged in (to ensure I'm not running on batteries only) the updater process is complaining that I might only be connected via a USB hub or keyboard or such like, and is therefore unable to download the update
This is clearly not the case - has anyone else had the same problem, and how might I get round it?
    Thanks.

I'm having this problem too with my 6220C. The installer gets half way through downloading and then says it's lost connection with my internet. When I press try again, it doesn't even attempt to start downloading and tells me to make sure i've plugged it into a proper usb slot. Tried uninstalling and reinstalling the updater several times and the same thing happens every time. Very frustrating.

  • 6220 Classic: Ovi Suite Software Update problems

    Hello everyone,
I am trying to update the firmware of a 6220 Classic via Ovi Suite (2.1.1.1). I connected the phone, and started the software update process. I was informed the current firmaware version is 03.23, and that version 5.15 is available. I proceeded downloading the (148mb) firmware update.
After that the update process started, and I was informed to ignore all USB connection notifications. Notifications like "Nokia Flash Parent detected" were displayed with one informing me that the driver for one of these "devices" failed to install.
I then got the "Device recovery" error, stating that Ovi Suite lost connection with my device, and presented me with 4 steps to follow to "help reconnect your device". None of this helped, and I kept on getting the same error. Now I am lost. The 5.15 update is also not available OTA. Luckily the phone was not bricked in the process, and is still working fine at version level 3.23
Any ideas on how to get Ovi Suite to install the update? My system specs: Windows XP Pro SP3 with latest fixes/updates.
    Thank you.

I always use Ovi Suite to update 3 phone (5310, 5610, 5800), no problems so far. However once caveat on s60 phone like yours is that when problems like this occur, you could try to update without a memory card inserted. If that fails, hard reset the phone and update the blank phone (back up first before resetting of course). If that still fails, take it to a Nokia Care Center.
