6233 circuit board fried

i don't know if this has happened to any of you in the past. my 6233 went off by itself last week and refused to stay on past 5 seconds after that. brought it in to a mobile center to flash but when i went there today was told that the circuit board was damaged. don't know how it happened and this was the first time i experienced this. the phone has never gone anywhere near water and have never been opened. do i have to resort to buying a new phone or is there still hope in getting it repaired.

Did the phone have an original battery?
Did you knock it or anything?
I think there is hope in getting it repaired because it wasn't your fault wasn't it...?
i have the original battery and it was never knocked or even come close to water. this is so strange. but i don't believe these guys 100% because the alarm still function. it comes on when it alarm with display, and then when i turn off the alarm its dead again.

  • I am trying to use the RS232 to control a circuit board. It would have to simultaneously output SerialClock, DataIn, and Chip Select signals, while also receiving DataOut signals; therefore 4 signals total. Does anyone know if it this is possible?

I am trying to splice 4 wires out of the RS232 serial cable (the 9-pin type) and wire them to a circuit board. The 4 wires would control 4 signals: DataIn, DataOut, SerialClock, and ChipSelect. The serial clock would synchronize the DataIn and the ChipSelect is asynchronous. DataOut must coincide with SerialClock also; therefore there are 3 signals that must be able to switch concurrently. All the handshaking enabled by RS232 is thus unnecessary in my opinion. Does anyone know of how this can be done?

  • Swapping circuit boards for an internal hard drive

My story may be a bit long and roundabout, so please try and bear with me as I explain.
My PowerMac G5 is 4.5 years old and over the past few months, the DVD and my secondary internal hard drive, both the originals that came with my computer, have been slowly dying. I finally replaced the DVD drive the other day and was little by little copying the data off my secondary internal drive before it completely failed. One thing that seemed to help the internal drive run more smooth was unplugging the power cable and plugging it back in. A worker at an Apple store's Genius Bar also suggested swapping each internal drive to the bay that the other was originally in, to see if that helped at all.
Anyways, in the end, the drive was giving me so much trouble and I had unplugged/plugged the power cable so many times that eventually the part of the circuit board that holds the pin connectors straight broke off, so now I had no way to get my data off the slowly failing drive. Another visit to the Genius Bar and I was told that the drive was as good as done, but not wanting to believe that the majority of my film projects were gone forever, I contacted a store across the street from my old NYU dorm called Digital Society. They told me that the circuit board on the drive needed to be replaced and that the new board had to be taken from an identical drive. I soon realized that the primary/system drive of my G5 was in fact identical. So, after running Time Machine, purchasing new primary and secondary internal drives, re-installing the OS and doing a Time Machine restore - which was flawless - I took my two drives back to Digital Society where they swapped the circuit boards rather quickly.
Now that I'm back home, I was easily able to recover all my data from my failing drive... only after having its circuit board replaced, the drive is showing no signs whatsoever of the read/write difficulties and failures that it had been showing prior to the circuit board swap, which leads me to a few questions
    a) Was it really the drive that had a problem, or the circuit board itself? Is there anywhere I could buy just a circuit board without having to buy a new drive just to get a circuit board? The drives in question are 400 gig Hitachi Deskstar, model #HDS724040KLSA80. While I'm not entirely sure the once failing drive should be trusted again, my old system drive - which now has a busted circuit board on it - still works perfectly fine.
    b) If I'm able to get a new circuit board, how easy is it to replace myself? The guy at Digital Society did it very quickly and for a price of $120. Are there any video tutorials?
    Thanks!

    Lot's of good question Will,
Hard drives are not what they used to be, if your work is important I'd replace them every 3 years & have 2 backups in the meantime.
I doubt you can get the circuit boards separate without buying a while questionable drive.

  • Broken coax cable from circuit board to Airport Extreme

I picked up this 1.25Ghz-DP/1024MB/FW800 off the internet knowing that it did not come with either the Airport Extreme or the Bluetooth (1.1) module. No big deal, since I have an AE and would be looking for the BT Module. To my surprise, its "AE/Bluetooth-ready" status was compromised by the removal of the AE card using a pair of side cutters (or some other crude cutting tool), leaving a frizzy antenna cable running back down into the space between the chassis and the case. It would appear that the BT antenna is intact, for what it is worth.
I know there would be some challenges, but I am wondering if the part is available that includes the circuit board, the antenna, and the antenna coax leading from the circuit board back to the connector on the AE. Or maybe the part numbers?
I plan to use this for an older version Digidesign's Pro Tools, so I am going to remove the two four-port cards (one FW, one USB) and replace them with the PT Mix Core and Farm(s). I would prefer not to go with the USB dongle, since I know there can be flakiness with USB and PT. My alternative to taking the plunge with a soldering iron and some parts would be to get an AEBS nearby and connecting with ethernet.
The computer sees the card in System profiler, but without the antenna fully deployed, it fires blanks. Are the resources for the connector and cable that could be put together to paste it back in place or better yet, a place to get the complete unit to change it out. I guess I would be looking for the BT module, too as long as I am at it, but that is not a critical issue.
    Thanks---Dave Iverson

    Hi Dave,
Here is a third-party external extension antenna that might replace the existing stub:
    http://www.macwireless.com/html/products/antennas_boosters/whips.php
Installation in a G4 mini-tower is easy; you only need to remove a PCI slot cover on the back to run the cable outside the box. I have no personal experience with this; just something I found in searching after I read your post.
    Danny,
    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
Looks like the above product should work for an iMac. Check the list of instructions on the page I linked to see if they list your computer. I suspect you have to take something apart to run the cable. Also check the iMac G5 forums to see if someone there has already figured it out for that model. The iMac G5 hardware is nothing like the G4 mini-towers that are the subject of this forum area, so your chances of getting the right answer for your specific computer are better in the other forum I linked.
If you are having trouble figuring out how to start your own thread (so many people do that I must ask), see this Apple info:

  • What is it? Mystery circuit board??

hello There, I have several 400MHz slot loaders and was playing at swapping optical drives in a couple of them when I noticed that one had an 'extra' piece on it's logic board. Both boards look identical apart from one had an additional raised small circuit board to the right of the PRAM battery, it is probably about a good two inches square. I looked in the PDF take apart manual and the one shown there doesn't have this extra board. Does anyone know what it is?

I think you might be right but I'll take it apart again tomorrow and have another look - why would one iMac have on and not the other one (and not the one in the service manual)?

  • PowerBook Circuit Board Question

Hi Everyone. I bought a POwerBook 12 inch laptop in 2005. I need a new circuit board because it is busted and the computer won't turn on. It is 800 dollars to repair it. I don't have enought money to buy a new MAC (which eventually I will do).
I am looking at this Dell (which has 3 Gigs, I think my powerborok has 1 or 2 tops).
    http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=9123584&type=product&id=1218027599 434
Should I pay the 800 dollar repair? I'm worried that another major problem will happen because I don't have a warranty on it and everyone says to get a new computer because the computer isn't even worth 800 dollars. By the time I buy the Dell and upload my MAC files and pay for warranty it will be around 850-900. What should I do?

I would not put that kind of money into an Aluminum PowerBook G4 12" that has logic board problems. You can buy a used one on eBay for less than half that amount, and a used MacBook for something in the neighborhood of $1000. However, although I would not put that kind of money in trying to revive a PB G4 with a bad logic board, I would not settle for a PC, either.

  • Automated tester of circuit boards

I am developing code in labview to perform automated testing on various circuit boards.  If you take a look at my program so far I am using stacked sequence that performs various steps in each sequence with various time delays. As you can see a lot of the same tests are performed over and over again such as checking ACC Cold, Ignition Cold, and +12V Machine. You can also see that I have an LED on the front panel for everytime one of those are checked, ideally though what I want is just one LED for each of those tests that will come on and off between each step/sequence to let me know that each step is performing the way it is supposed to. Also what I have not yet been able to figure out is how at the end of the testing to turn off all the LEDs that are still on because currently they stay on permanently until I exit out of labview and get back in. Also you can see that in each stacked sequence I have a text box saying what is going on, I know there is a way to have that message displayed on the front panel and have it change between every sequence...eventually I want to have error messages put in place so if one of the steps failed such as checking the ACC Cold an error message would pop up on the front panel. I know this is a lot but if you have time take a look at my program attached and give me some feedback.

I also noticed frame 4 "Apply: +12V Machine Wait: 1.5 sec". I once learned long time ago that this is the wrong way of doing it, because you might end up with  "Wait: 1.5 sec Apply: +12V Machine ". Since you have no control of the execution order in this case. This because there are no dataflow between the "Apply: +12V Machine " and "Wait: 1.5 sec" functions. A frame should be used in this case

  • HELP Shorted circuit board?

i have a ipod video 30 gb and it was screwed up all of the sudden it had the sad faced error message and the hard drive just kept clicking. so i opened it up and took out the hard drive (following a do it yourself site) to reset the disk maganger. when i did that i removed the battery ribbon from the clip and when i put it back in i accidentally put it in backwards. sure enough the **** circuit board and face cover in the area of the battery connection heated up pretty **** hot(a short). i put it all back together properly but now it wont turn on or reset. But when i plug it in it says please wait battery very low. But it justs charges for ever and ever. Did i fry my board? is that replaceable without warranty? why was the harddrive clicking before and is the battery still gona be okay? lots of questions but advice is much appreciated!

You can do a search for iPod repairs. Most of the companies will give you a quote on the repair price.

  • Tech Query - Need Replacement Circuit Board Part - PCB Receptacle

    Greetings,
While upgrading my iBook hard drive, I broke the power button wire socket off the circuit board.
I am trying to find out what the heck the part number is and where to get a replacement.
It is the part talked about on the following webpage:
    http://www.ifixit.com/Guide/51.12.11.html
"The connectors at the ends of the cables are attached very firmly to the sockets on the logic board. Pulling directly on the cable will either separate the cable from its connector or the socket from the logic board."
    Thanks

The piece in question is fairly simple to find, as it is mainly used for speaker/switch/sensor connectors. I've disassembled many brands, and I have seen that particular connector alot. I usually order from digikey, (www.digikey.com) and get most of my specific parts from there. I happen to have a G4/867 Powerbook on my bench right now, doing a search since the customer had broken not only the recepticle free from the mainboard, but also the plates from the mainboard that the conductors touch, but doing a sight-trace of the board, I think the edge connectors are also connected with the central conductors of the recepticle, thus making the sides the actual contacts for the switch. I was unable to turn it on by bridging those, though, and assumed that the entire thing had to be re-attached. I was able to place two flattened squares of solder over the board under the recepticle. (Which has two plastic retaining feet, thank Jobs) so now it is firmly back in there, but I think I am going to have to use a solder pen to get the contacts to touch the mainboard, since solder doesn't stick to silicone very well.

  • Old printer's circuit board design

Do you guys at HP ever release confidental data of old products?
I have an old HP PSC 2500 and I would like to use some of its parts to build my own 3D printer.
Therefore it would be amazing to be able to use the printer's original controller board with it's powerful
133MHz processor and reprogram it with some homebrew 3D printing software. (I think of all the great features I wouldnt have to rebuild myself: Ethernet, Wi-Fi, USB, Motor & Sensor interfaces, Power Controlling unit)
But for this Project I would need the circuit scheme of the Controller Board or the low level functions source code and some hint on how to connect the board's programming plug.
If you're not going to release any of these information (which is regrettably very likely) please tell me at least the part number of the microprocessor of the printer. (Or provide me with an email address of someone who can help me with my question)
Remember that I need this only for private use.

Here is part of his earlier post for general info:
As for the mosiac, some cameras were getting that in
RAW conversion. I do not think the update patched any
RAW conversions, that will probably coem with an OS
update that should also be along any day now. then
you may see some imrovement, though again it would
depend on what they update and what camera you have.
    <...>
Yep, that ended up being slightly wrong as it turned out there really was no update of RAW decoders in 1.0.1 - they spent some time on it instead and thus we have 1.1 coming up, which defiantley has RAW decoder updates for at least some cameras.

  • Hard drive in Pismo not recognized; is my logic board fried?

Sorry to post another Pismo question so soon, but the Powerbook has me baffled again. Initially, the G3 laptop (actually it is a G4 as I put in the Newer upgrade long ago) had kernel panics and wouldn't boot completely even on the install disks. I tracked that down to bad memory but before I concluded that it was RAM at the source of my troubles, I thought that the problem was a bad hard drive ribbon and connector. I ordered the hard drive cage/ribbon and received it today. In the interim I have been running the Pismo via a firewire drive (and it runs fine), so I took the drive out of its firewire enclosure, put it in the cage, connected the ribbon and installed it in the computer. Flashing question mark on the screen. I removed it and made sure the ribbon was securely attached to both drive and mother board, then attempted to boot up again. Flashing question mark (which I know means no available boot drive). I started up using the install disk, ran disk utility and no drive other than the install disk showed up. I even tried the old cage and ribbon; flashing question mark.
My mind says there are only two possible causes: either the new ribbon/cage is faulty or my logic board is somehow fried, not allowing the disk attached to the ribbon to connect. Am I missing something? Right now I'm about resigned to just using it via a firewire drive, but the challenge to figure out the problem still spurs me, so I come to this great forum seeking any wisdom. Could the problem be anything else than a bad logic board (assuming the new ribbon is OK)? All help is appreciated.
    Thanks, Will

Hey there. I'm trying to draw back my G3-era knowledge but it's taking me a while!
I can't remember if you can access Apple System Profiler from the 10.4 install disk, but if you can, do so with the internal hard drive connected and see what it says for the ATA section.
PowerBook G3s are wonderful computers. I still have mine around although I finally retired it from my desk a while back (it was not as my main computer of course, but usually was used for IRC or Facebook or something like that) because my mom entered the computer world when someone gave her an iMac G3 with 333 whopping MHz! I gave her the RAM modules out of my Wallstreet G3 to get her from 64 to 512 MB and imaged my drive onto hers (to keep from having to redo the lovely XPostFacto 10.4 install) and she used it for around a year, happily, before upgrading to a MacBook Pro. Now that she's not using the iMac, I could steal my RAM (and that 333 MHz CPU card, heh mine's only a 266!) back. :-P
I had one of those SCSI adaptors that turned the odd square plug (can't remember what it was called now) into a normal 25 pin. I left it connected all the time because the screen hinge had failed and it kept the screen at a usable angle. Some may call it "ghetto," but I prefer the term improvisational usage technique.
Anyway, forgive my going offtopic. Lets just hope we can get yours running again!
    Regards,
    -Ryan

  • NF980-G65 RMA board, fried PCIE ports?

OK, so after a miserable RMA experience with MSI several years ago, MFLASH killed my board recently and I had to RMA it. The whole process took 2 weeks, which while excruciatingly long to go without my gaming rig, wasn't as bad as I though. I installed my new RMA board and the PCIE slots are bad. I'm posing on this machine right now with a 250GTS in the slot but its running under Standard VGA Adapter. I have been working on this machine for 2 days now and the only conclusion is that they're fried. The parts I tested with work perfectly fine on my other machine with the same board, and are rock stable, even through 12 hours of prime95 and 8 hours of Memtest86. I have tried...
    4 videocards: MSI 460GTX Cyclone 1GB(brand new), XFX GTS250 1GB, 8800GTS 320MB, 7950GT 512MB. ALL cards work in 2 other machines
2 sets of DDR, Patriot DDR3 1600 2x4GB for AMD systems, OCZ Black Edition DDR3 1600 2x4GB. Both run perfect in my other NF980
3 revisions of nVidia drivers straight from the sight, 2 revisions of nForce drivers
2 PSU: Coolermaster 550 SLI, OCZ 850 Game Xtreme
Fresh Win7 64 install on a spare HDD, wouldn't get past "starting services" when its looking for VGA
As I said, the machine runs great right now, its cool (32idle 54fully loaded) and every thing else works as intended. I have all drivers installed (nForce board & LAN, Creative Audigy) but when I go to install the drivers for the videocard, after it reboots, the system gets to the login screen and freezes after 5-10 seconds forcing a hard reboot. The onboard video works but looks absolutely horrid but no card will function after loading its drivers. I have let Windows load its own GTS250 driver but it does the same thing. Its not the videocards (all 4 are running good), its not the RAM or heat issues. After every driver uninstall I reboot into safe mode and use driver cleaner pro then reboot and reload drivers but they all do the exact same thing. I have tried resetting BIOS safe and recommended defaults, hand tweaking it..EVERYTHING!! Now I will have to try and get another RMA and make it another 2-4 weeks with hundreds of dollars of hardware collecting dust.
Has anyone ever got MSI to cross ship? They can have my credit card number, phone number, social security..hell even my firstborn, I just need to get this thing up and running NOW!! Every store in my area dropped the board from their website within the last 2 weeks and I drove 40 miles from store to store today looking for someone with one in stock, I was desperate enough to do the old sticker switch and return and pay the restocking fee which is less than shipping this thing back again. Things like this make me want to swear off MSI like I've sworn off ASUS but I've been running MSI boards for over a decade (remember the K7NG2-ILSR and Neo4 Platinum SLI!!!) and to me they always put out the perfect motherboard with the mix of features, stability, overclocking and color schemes but I just cant have a system down for 2 months when I've scrimped and saved to buy all these toys and waited for them to ship.
Maybe I'm missing some magical step that I haven't seen in my 12 years of experience. Any ideas?

Ok, I have tried 5 cards now, in all 3 ports and the exact same thing happens. 460GTX, GTS250, 8800GTS, 7950GT, 7600GT
I completed a succesful benchmark with Vantage with the onboard video.
It ran 2 1HR prime95 sessions, 1 with onboard and 1 with a card in the slot (Standard VGA adapter), the system and PSU are stable
Everything was stripped from the case and run at my workstation, with only 1 HDD, 1 stick of RAM, BIOS defaults. It runs beautifully, until the machine reboots after video driver install.
I handle the board VERY gently, but it does a lot of "crackling" like something is loose or not set properly onto the board. As stated, I have another NF980-G65 in my other system and it runs all of the hardware fine and seems to be much more solidly built.
I'm going to box it up and return it again, there simply is no other option. Hopefully the next one will work properly.

  • New T430s has exposed circuit board

Thought I would start a new topic after mentioning it in a thread about loose arrow keys...
I can see the inside of my T430s from a gap at the back of the keyboard. I can actually see green circuitboard exposed there if I shine a flashlight through the crack above the F7 key. There is some printing on the board that says "R186".
The only thing I've attempted to open on this laptop is the RAM compartment, so its not from tinkering. This is how my T430s was built.
    A couple photos:
    Link to image 1
    Link to image 2
At least in my case, the Thinkpad claim to spill resistance seems to be defeated. I've owned more than a few laptops (and used more at work) and never, ever noticed an exposed circuitboard before.
Wondering who else has this and what I should do...
Edit: The camera couldn't be placed any farther back to show the full width of the gap, since a piece of black fabric is just below the visible circuitboard... the camera only picks up blackness from that angle but my eyes can see what is basically a 2.5-3mm rectangular gap between the top keyboard bezel and the rim of the notebook body. In total, the gap runs from about the right edge of the F5 key to the left edge of the F10 key; Various things are exposed but the circuitboard part is only about the width of a key.

First, when you opened the memory cover, you were working in the area that holds the keyboard in place. There was one more screw involved and it is right where you were working, inside the memory cover. The keyboard goes in last during assembly, right before they close up the memory cover. When installing the keyboard you slide the front lip under the bezel and push it forward to get enough room to be able to get the tabs at the back of the heyboard enough room so that they can get bu the other edge of the bezel. Then, you gently pull/push the keyboard back to center it in the space. Either your bezel is defective or that last step didn't get done correctly. (My description probably makes more sense if you have done it a hundred times.) If it were mine, I would take off the memory cover, remove the keyboard mounting screw and slide the keyboard into place. If my description makes no sense, you could call service.
