  • Calendar alarm tone 6230i

Hi, I'm sorry if this subject has been covered elsewhere; I did check and couldn't find a direct reference.
Question is: On a 6230i (an excellent 'phone) how do you change the calendar alarm tone. The default setting is very melodic but is 1. not loud enough and 2. not "aggressive" enough to always get my attention when in an environment that is a it noisy (driving for example). Any help would be much appreciated.

Well? How is it done, anyone?

  • No ascending calendar alarm tone in N82

I'm having some problems with the sound level of the calendar alarm in my new Nokia N82. I have the ringing type set to ascending in the phone profile and both the alarm clock and ringing volume start at a low level and increases which is what I want. The problem is the calendar alarm that starts playing the alarm tone at the highest level which is very annoying to say the least. A strange thing is if I go to calendar settings to change the alarm tone the phone previews the tone in ascending mode, starting at a low level and increases. My previous phone was a 6630 and it didn't have this problem.
What can I do to fix this annoying problem or do I have to wait for a new firmware release to fix this problem. Does anybody else have this problem with your N82s?
    Best regards, Magnus

It's been like this in all firmware versions so far. I think it's like that on other similar models too.
There is no way to change it on the phone. What you can do if you know how to edit audio on a PC is find a sound that you like and edit it so the volume fades in.
Other than that you'll just have to hope that they change it.

  • 6820 calendar alarm tone

Anyone know how to set the Calendar alarm to No tone? The only way I have been able to do this is to select the Silent profile What I want is to have the General profile selected but with a silent Calendar!

I have the very same problem on my 6230i. Of course I want to be reminded from my PC in the office when I use Outlook. Therefore all calender entries have the reminder switched on. After synchronizing with the handset I get audio reminders also from my phone which of course I don't want because it is pretty annoying to get reminded in the middle of the night that someone is having birthday ...
Many people have this same problem. I browsed through the web and there is no solution for nobody. So please Nokia add this feature to the PC Sync software.
In my misery I even started to writing a Outlook Plugin that removes the audio part of the reminder (but not the entire reminder). Syncing with the handset still resulted in audio alarms on the handset. I am really in pain here.

  • Calendar Alarms at Dawn!

I've just got a 5800. My first experience was of loading the disk that came with the handset and finding that the ‘Ovi’ applications together with Vista seemed reluctant to do anything. Loading even my basic info, e.g. phonebook onto my new handset was impossible. I still haven't managed to get the Music and Photo applications to boot up, let alone communicate with the handset. Others like the Ovi Suite boot up but won't communicate. After struggling for a day, a very helpful Nokia rep called back and pointed me towards PC Suite, which ran like a breeze. Getting past those immediate issues, I was drawn to the calendar interface on the home screen and loaded a few sample events to see how it behaved. The current day’s events show first as might be expected. Then the list continues, showing future events for which a reminder has been set. This means that I now have a constant reminder to buy Aunt Mavis a birthday card and post it over the next few days! It stays there until the event has past, so I am reminded also to phone her on the big day. On the strength of those excellent results, I synchronised my handset with Outlook. The following morning at 6am I was rudely awoken by all manner of chiming and buzzing. It wouldn't have been so bad, but the 'real alarm' was set to go off at 7:30. It seems that All Day Events, like Birthdays, tasks to renew to the insurance and reminders to buy milk are treated as urgent events which you must be awoken at 6am to deal with, even if, in the case of Aunt Mavis' card, the shops aren't open for another 3 hours. I dread to think what will happen at the weekend when I was hoping to have a lie-in.
This seems like basic stuff, so I went in search of a basic solution and found the following: There don't seem to be any options in PC Suite for the handling of reminders. If there is a reminder set in Outlook, then, upon synchronisation, PC Suite converts this into an Alarm.
I did find an option on the handset under Calendar Settings to set the Calendar Alarm Tone globally to “None”. The next morning, however, I was greeted by buzzing, which repeated incessantly every few minutes until I was awake enough to pick up the handset and cancel it! Turning to Outlook, I found a reminder sound is set for each appointment by default. I’ve never noticed it before.  I guess it hasn’t been an issue because All Day Event chimes must go off at midnight when the PC is usually switched off.  So I modified all my All Day Events to have no reminder sound. On synchronisation, it turns out this gets rid of the beeping but still leaves the buzzing as before. Looking at PC Suite again, it is possible to edit each appointment after synchronisation. Setting aside any concerns that manually editing entries is sure to cause future synchronisation headaches, there is an option for the Alarm to be changed to “Not Set”. It seems there is no way of doing this quickly as you have to edit each individually (100+ in my case). It turns out, however, that doing this not only removes the alarm but also the reminder itself – it no longer appears on the home screen as a future event. This means I don’t find out about Aunt Mavis until the day of her birthday - too late to send a card!
I guess on the handset I could disable vibration completely in the profile settings, but I do rather rely on that for calls, messages and of course, the real alarm clock. I guess even then an alert would still come up on the screen at 6am every morning and have to be cancelled.
Have I missed something obvious? Does anyone have a work around? Is this common to all Nokias? Can anyone come to my rescue as I am about to abandon this calendar feature as a beautifully conceived but fatally flawed!!!

I like your thinking el-loco! And thanks to au-N97 and radical 24 for taking it a stage further.
Calendar alarms certainly 'feel' like they should be profile related – in some situations active, in others disabled. I went to test out the Warning tones option and found I had already set it to off a few days ago whilst getting rid of the power on/off jingle that had come preloaded on the phone. (It was annoying me!)
Following el-loco’s principle though, it is possible to turn off vibration instead. The Calendar Alarm Tone would have to be set globally to “None” as it is not a profile option. No beeps or buzzing at dawn now; that would just leave the screen lighting up every few minutes – the alert repeats endlessly on an automatic ‘snooze cycle’ until the user intervenes and “Stop” is pressed on the handset.
In the meantime guess I will have to resort to powering off the phone completely overnight. Just a thought - is possible to do a timed / automatic power off / power on of the handset – say powering off at 05:59 and on again at 06:01 to get around it??
Sorry about the examples I used in my original post, by the way – I was only trying to get the point across. Fundamentally, I see the issue as follows:
If I understand correctly, the phone has 4 possible notification methods for each calendar event:
    Alarm tone
    Alarm vibrate
    Alarm screen alert
    Home screen list
The first 3 are ‘interrupts’ they alert the user and have to be dealt with or cancelled immediately.
The fourth is method is ‘informative’ - available for the user to check at any time, but does not demand immediate intervention.
Reminders can fall into either category
–interrupts, where you need to go somewhere or do something at a specific scheduled time, e.g. set off to a meeting , or
-advisory, non scheduled and / or non time specific events. This category is much broader and includes all the other things you have get done when you have a minute, ad hoc meetings to arrange, issues to resolve, tasks to complete etc. It might also include designated days, i.e. contract deliveries, a client presentation, leave days, renewals, anniversaries etc for which you have to contribute, e.g. a reminder two days before the contract delivery date so you can check everything is in order and deal with any outstanding issues, or a reminder 5 days before a client presentation so you can a start getting your material together and make the necessary travel arrangements etc. NB: Outlook deals with this very well – in that latter example, it will quietly sit in your reminder list constantly until your presentation, or you can cancel it early if you have completed all the prep. The phone’s Home screen list appears to have the same capability, albeit I have experienced some erratic results (see confusion in previous post).
The problem seems to be that the handset does not distinguish between the two categories – it is not possible to have an advisory reminder without also having and interrupt alarm. If there is no specific time applicable to an event/reminder, the handset overrides this and sets an interrupt alarm for 6am. This makes no sense as it is effectively demanding my attention at a time of its own choosing!!! (If you follow, that is the cause of my rude awakening each morning.)
If there is no other solution, it ‘feels’ like a synchronisation settings issue. Perhaps the user could choose how alarms and reminders are dealt with on the phone for time specific and non-time specific appointments?
The profile setting touched upon at the start goes hand in hand. There are many circumstances that it might not be appropriate for your phone to start beeping / vibrating and / or flashing, irrespective of whether they are time or non- time specific events. To name but two, in my workplace, a phone going off in a meeting is frowned upon unless it is a genuine emergency. Also, when on leave, I don’t think many people would be pleased about their phones going off for meetings / events that are happening back at work!
A finale angle I can explore is from a usability perspective:
    Layer 0
Other than by switching the phone off altogether, at the moment there seems to be no easy way to suppress or control when or where calendar alarms go off. If you don’t want interrupt alarms, you can’t synch your calendar.
    Layer 1
If it were possible to suppress interrupts (tone, vibrate and screen alert), the calendar would become useful as a reference tool. When someone asks if I am free for a meeting at 2pm next Tuesday, or available for dinner at 8pm, I would at least be able to check on the handset and confirm.
    Layer2
If suppressing interrupts were possible by profile, I would in addition have a useful alarm tool for important events, and be able to use the automated switchover workaround as described by the other contributors.
    Layer3
Adding synchronising options to allow time and non-time specific reminders to be handled differently. No switchover workaround would be necessary. Resolving the erratic operation of the Home screen list would add maximum value.
Well those are my thoughts, what does everyone else think?

  • Changing Alarm Tone

  • Changing the alarm tone

Hello. I am using the smartphone Sony Xperia L and I have been having troubles with changing my alarm tone. Once I go to the "alarm sound" option and click on it, I can choose between all the tones the phone already provides me but not a song from my own gallery. I have looked it up and I have found that there is supposed to be a note on the top right, which takes you to the gallery. It used to be like that on my phone too but after a few software updates, it doesn't exist there anymore. Could someone help me find a way to choose a song from my gallery as my alarm tone? Please and thank you.
    Solved!

If you are missing the note when you are picking ringtones I suggest that you go to settings > apps > all > media storage > clear defaults. Restart your phone and try again.

  • 6303i - Changing To-do Alarm Tone

I'm a happy new user of a 6303i Classic (updated to v09.83). I find the alarm tone I get for a new To-do list item too quiet, but I can't see a way to choose a different alarm tone as default for a To-do item. I'd rather not increase the handset Ringing Volume (or if this affects the volume of the To-do item tone), so I was hoping the best option would be to change the tone used for a new To-do item to a louder one. For Alarm type in a new To-do list item I'm given the choice of No Alarm, Silent, or With Tone. But I find no way of selecting which tone to use with the 'With Tone' option. Can I change this? Any help would be much appreciated. Many thanks.

  • Can't change clock alarm tone (N97)

I'm having an issue on my phone (N97) where i try to set my alarm tone to anything other than 'default tone' to wake up to in the morning, when i click on it, the loading bar comes up with "opening" for about 15 seconds,  then i get an error "Clock: Memory full close some applications and try again"
I only did a hard reset on this phone last week, along with a complete format of the mass memory, then reinstall of apps, yes another handful of hours goven away to nokia. It is running v20
BestTaskman is telling me i have no applications open and 40.48Mb of RAM free. how can changing the clock tone use up 40Mb of RAM???
I can change my ringtones in profiles just fine...
Most probably has somethign to do with the 17.5GB or so of music that I have on the mass memory, but really, that shouldn't make a difference, did they give us a 32GB phone and expect us not to use it?
has anyone seen this or know how to fix it?

  • Changing default Calendar alarms in Mavericks' Calendar?

Is there any way that I can change the default Calendar alarm to email?
I don't use the "pop-up" on screen alarm, which appears to be the default, because that relies on me being in front of the iMac at the time whereas I can read email alarms on any computer (even at Client's premises) wherever I am, and having to remeber to change every single appointment to "email to" is a positive nuisance.
I seem to recall this was possible a couple of generations ago in iCal on Snow Leopard but the option was inexplicably removed in a no doubt "improving" update!
Surely Apple should provide the option to change the default alarm to personal preference?
Or am I being stupid and overlooking something obvious?
    Thanks in advance.

As a long-time Apple user, Apple evangelist and stockholder (I bought the stock when it was $41/share), I'm really annoyed with the numerous issues in the latest version of OSX. In all the years I've used Macs, this is the first time I really feel like their new version is simply not ready for primetime.
And it's not just the inablility to customize alerts in Calendar. The iWork app suite (Numbers, Pages, etc.), also has major issues, e.g., no more initial caps when typing.
Many of these changes are reportedly due to Apple's desire to increase cross-device and iCloud capability between the Mac and various IOS devices. Apple is also touting the fact that the iWork suite is now free and supposedly simpler.
Don't get me wrong. OSX 10.9 Mavericks is extremely stable. And there are many new features which certainly improve my overall computing experience. But a major unintended consequence of these "upgrades" and "improvements" is the sacrifice of basic functionality.

  • OS 10.8 Calendar Alarms Are a Mess

What happened to alarms in Calendar? They used to work. They worked as one would expect alarms to work.
Now I get notified (only after 9 am) of events that happened yesterday even though the alarm was set for the day of the event. Snooze options? May as well drop them from the app rather than taunt the user with choices that are no choices.
9 am? This has got to be an arbitrary decision by a nameless developer at Apple. This person lives in a world different from the rest of us. I'd love to have been in on the team meeting for that decision. How does Calendar serve those people who work and function through the night?
Now we have Reminders. Hobble Calendar to drive users to Reminders. Is this the notion? If it is that's guile. That is definitely a step in the wrong direction.
I've been a loyal and devoted Apple user since 1989. Mountain Lion is the first "upgrade" that is pushing me away from Apple.
I earn my living as a documentation specialist. I use Macs and Windows machines all day, every day. My preference has always been Mac but I tell you that is beginning to change. In both worlds, so-called advancements are actually hindrances to productivity.
Seems developers work in a vacuum without having to rely on their applications to make a living.
Newsstand crashes on my iPad - it has for some time now without resolution-still does as of this am with the latest iOS update installed
Calendar alarms are essentially useless so I'm shopping for a third party app
Reminders get Calendar categories but don't harvest the data. You have to enter that again. It's in Calendar already!
Notes don't sync with Notes in Outlook so that's useless
Maps is a huge failure. It's replaced what was once an excellent app with Street View being a wonder. They've fixed that to where it's useless. It locates people in my address book in places not even close to where they are. Who at Apple figured that what was available needed fixing to point of Maps being unusable?
The developer of Paperless can't support scanners in Mountain Lion so now I'm required to use the software (old, clunky, and still working) the scanner came with to get the same job done
My 160GB iPod is no longer recognized by my Mac's OS and hasn't been for some time. They still sell those iPods?
I don't understand the approach to "improving" functioning apps to point of making them useless.
Apple—I'm swiftly becoming disenchanted. Not that anyone there will ever see this message. It's a shout into the void. I vote with my monetary investments. I'm fortunate enough to make a good living and can purchase whatever products I choose. It's always been Apple but I have to say my support is dropping like the functionality in applications.

Mac OS 10.8.4 is still in beta. You need to be reporting this to Apple.
What happens if you move these profiles to the Adobe/Profiles folder, or the users/Library/Colorsync/Profiles folder?
There has been a lot of discussion of this on many forums with no solution.
What forums? A google search turns up nothing but this thread.
I have not seen this problem with the released versions of 10.8.

  • Using song as alarm tone

I have a Nokia 6710 Navigator. I have downloaded an mp3 onto my phone, which I want to use as my alarm tone. I have selected the song as my alarm tone, and at the set time the song begins playing.
My issue is that, when playing as an alarm, only 1 minute of the mp3 plays.
Is it possible to change the settings so that the whole mp3 file plays (approx 3 minutes) when I'm using it as an alarm?
    Thank you for your help

So could anybody tell me then what length limitations the phones have?
1 minute for the alarm, for the regular ringtone "unlimited" (e.g. a song with 5:00 length)?
Is there any website with specifications/requirements for customisations/custom files (wallpaper/tehem/tone/etc.)?
    regards

  • Desktop direct sync resets calendar alarms

    Hi,
I am not setup on BES and I am sync'ing my 8320 direclty to my PC wiht BlackBerry Desktop Manager.
My problem is that after each sync, all of my calendar alarms for the last 24-48hours get reset and I get a burst of alarms from Outlook when the sync is complete.  The hand held does not show the burst of alarms.
Setting the switch in the BBDM for Synchronization>Calendar>Setup... "Remove alarm from past items" does not change the behavior.

    Have you seen any resolution?
I see a "Remove alarm for past items" in the Calendar setup for sync.  Doesn't appear to make any difference.  Going to try resetting to default and see what happens.  Maybe some combination of my tweaking is causing this.
