6280 - Cant turn Predictive Text on

I can't work out how to turn on Predictive Text. Elsewhere on this forum people have written about selecting "options" when writing a text message but there are no options for Predictive text that I can see.
Firmware 3.60 on Vodaphone. 2nd phone due to first being faulty.
Any Ideas? Is there a hidden function somewhere? Like pressing and holding the left function key during text input turns the t9 dictionary on/off
Thanks

Give Club Nokia a call, they'll be able to help you with this, especially as you have a network independent (sp!) model... btw, where did you get it from?
hi aubs,
i live in holland, and i got my 6280 from a store that specialises in their own deals with subscriptions with network providers. i don't know if such stores exist in the UK, but there are many here in holland. their offers are often much better than any of the network providers (e.g. vodafone, t-mobile,e tc.).
thanks for the suggestion. i'll get in touch with them and post my findings here. just too busy lately.

  • Trying to learn about Predictive Text

My N8 User Guide (PDF) seems silent on how to use predictive text. Is it supposed to be so obvious that anyone can use it, and I'm an imbecile?
My biggest gripe is that once predictive text finds what it thinks is a better word than the one I was spelling, I cannot find a way to convince it that I'm right.
In the interim, I've turned predictive text off, but it would be hugely beneficial to me. I teach English, so my spelling is above average, but my typing is carp.

I have attached screenshots on how to deactivate predictive text. This taken using N8 running on Symbian Anna. Hope this helps

  • How can I turn off text auto-correct in Number IOS?

I use Numbers as a project workbook and it drives me insane I cant turn off text auto-correct. I use a bunch of abbreviations that Numbers wont allow without constantly changing to the extent that its almost useless.

Auto correct is controlled at the system, not apps, level (with a few possible exceptions, but Numbers isn't one of them).

  • Can predictive text be turned off?

Can predictive text be turned off?

Just wanted to add my voice to those who want to disable predictive text. I hated it on my Nokia and turned it off (YES!!!). It makes my iPhone 3G seem LESS intuitive because it rarely, if ever, divines MY intentions. Whether it is a name, a term or phrase or from the smattering of foreign languages I incorporate in EVERYDAY life, the iPhone vomits up wrong choices, forcing me to correct, re-type, and sometimes re-re-re-type what I want. This is not a SMART feature.
Kinda reminds me of the usual MS explanation: it's not a bug, it's a feature!
PUH-LEASE, Apple... Give us the power in the next software upgrade!

Hi is it possible to turn off the  predictive text when trying to edit track info ?

    AFAIK you can't.
personally, i work around the issue by typing an "X" when starting to enter text (for instance "XBruce Springsteen"), which is removed once the edit is done.

  • Predictive text on N95- Do u know how to use it?

Hi, All the phones I have used up to now & the Predictive text, once you type the 1st 2 or 3 letters the phone would predict & give you a choice of possiable words and then u confirm which one.
I just got a N95 and have turned on the predictive text, when I start to type a word and the 1st letter, it comes up with a word starting with a compleatly different 1st letter !!! Maybe I dont know how to use this system, can anybody please shine some light on this matter
    Thanks

    Hi alata
Select the "pencil" button, scroll down to Predictive Text > "Matches" and then the list becomes available.
Star key(*)bottom left on pad will change words. Keep pressing until your happy with the word or you will be asked to spell it.

  • Predictive Text not smooth in ios 8.1.3

Does anyone know why predictive text is not good after updating ios 8.1.3. What's happening ? I turned on and off again and again, but still the same. The previous one is much better. Why?

    Here is your quick fix.
    1. Make sure your Predictive text is on
    2. Go to your messages app
    3. Make sure your keyboard is up in the messages bar
    4. On top of your keyboard in the center there is a small WHITE LINE
    5. Touch and hold on that spot until that white line is gray out
    6. Flick your finger/thumb up and Bam!!there is your predictive text.
    7. FYI if you are typing and somehow you flick your thumb down, you will close that predictive feature by accident.
    Hope this help you out!!

  • Turning off Text Spell Check

Easy one this...hopefully. Can someone tell me how to turn of the spell check type function in SMS mode. It's causing me problems and even re corrects itself when I've gone back and changed it.

Its not going to be changed. Apple designed it that way on purpose, and it's considered a "feature" of the iPhone - one that has been much touted and advertised, called "Predictive Text".
I agree that I would like to see an option to turn it off -- I could type much much faster on the iPhone without the predictive type...but people have been requesting this feature for over a year (along with cut and paste, etc) and there is no indication it will be changed at any time soon.
One caveat though -- touching the X and dismissing the suggestion really DOES work over time -- once you have dismissed a suggested word twice, it really isn't suggested again. Over the course of a couple weeks, it dismisses most of the words it wrongly suggests. Pain yes, but ultimately it goes away if you consistently touch the X and dismiss it instead of pressing any other key.

  • Predictive Text in textfield

    Hi,
I'm developing a Java Aplication Desktop, and I need have a predictive text on TextField of Jswing.
    How do this??
Thanks... and excuse me , i talk less English

Your requirement is generally known as "Auto-Completion". Google should turn up several excellent examples.
    1 ) Create a dictionary. A String[] will do
    2) Create an auto-completion document model that takes the dictionary.
    3) Use the JTextField.setDocument(myAutoCompleteDoc);

  • How does predictive text work?

I realise that I must be the last person on the planet to start using predictive text, but I've just turned it on and I don't understand it.
For example, I click the "5" key for a "J" and it produces a "K".
I've no idea what's going on. Are there any 5 year olds out there who can explain how to use this feature?
Any idiots guide I can access?
    Jeff
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

You have to type the whole or most oa a word before predictive text starts making any sense of it.
Eg. if you want to type the word "home", it is 4663. The word displayed weill be "good" which uses the same combination. Now you can cycle between the various works using the same combination using the * key. The second word in the sequence happens to be "home" but if you keep pressing the * key will see the rest.

  • Is it possible to turn off text smoothing (Anti-Aliasing)?

    Hi,
this Anti-Aliasing or I think it is called text smoothing in English is really ugly and is driving me nuts. I cant turn it off. Even with TinkerTool up to size 144 it just doesnt help. Especially Safari loks horrible. Can it be turned off? Does anyone know if Leopard will be able to turn it off?
    Cheers
    Axel

Have you set font smoothing in Appearances (System preferences) to match your monitor?

  • N82 Animated SMS and Predictive Text Problems

I've just got a new N82 and think it's a great phone. I downloaded and installed the Animated SMS program from Nokia's software site and have a couple of problems! The first is that I've set my left direction shortcut to come up with a New Message, now it lists SMS, Email and MMS but no A-SMS, I have to go through the message icon in the main menu. The second problem is that when I open the A-SMS application up and I do use and like Predictive Texting, it doesn't work! Everytime I push a button to start texting nothing displays on the screen and SPELL comes up over the left softkey. Turn off Predictive Texting and it works, very annoying. Anyone else had any problems and anyone know a solution? Have contacted Nokia who haven't got back to me yet.

you might want to try FA136050 here
    /t5/Software-Updates/Symbian-Anna-Troubleshooting/td-p/1127953
but i've always used the * button to scroll through options. once you move off the word it stops being a sequence of key presses and just becomes the letters as is.
There's no dignity in begging for kudos. Do it for the karma.

  • Predictive text keyboard option is greyed out

I have turned on/off all keyboard and spelling options in Settings. Restore and setup as new? Keeping finders crozzed.

Just restored and setup as new. Your advice is correct, tapping on the Keyboard icon at the bottom right enabled the predictive text keyboard.
Going to restore my backup now, thanks for the help.

  • I no longer have "predictive" text messaging. Anyone else have this or no why that happened?

I no longer have "predictive" text messaging. I have an iPhone 5S, just updated to iOS 8 and iOS 8.2. I've tried turning messaging on and off, searched in General category without benefit. It simply stopped about a week ago, after going to iOS 8.
