6300 amend contacts

Hi,
I've upgraded my sw to v5.5 for 6300 and now I can't add a new contact number to an existing contact - just error message is 'operation failed'. (I'm on Orange UK)
Anyone know what to do? Or where I can get the previous version of the software and make teh software updater roll back the version?
This is just such a stupid error and makes the device more likely for me to move from nokia - I've been loyal for over 10 years and 4 devices but the quality of the software is getting worse over time...
Other issues with this model incl bluetooth synch to Dell X1 PC, & rapid fade of battery life...
Any suggestions (other than move to HTC devices) gratefully recieved,
Cheers,

Hi Richurc,
I have the same problem already half a year. At this moment I cannot add any data at all to a contact, each time an 'Operation Failed' message when trying to add extra numbers directly or via an existing number.
Terrible, the bug is already in there half a year. Updates didn't help (until 5.5 which I have now)
Switching to phone memory and putting all contacts in there didn't help either.
I hope the advisor can contact his 2nd line support or even 3thrd line to advise a final solution for this very annoying problem.

  • Nokia 6300 - Downloading contacts to In-Car Kenwoo...

I have recently purchased a new vehicle that has a Kenwood entertainment system with integrated bluetooth. The extremely 'useful' manual states that my Nokia 6300's contacts directory can be downloaded to the InCar system by following the cellphone instructions.
However, there is no mention of how to perform a download within the 6300 instruction manual.
Has anybody idea how this can be solved?
Thanks in advance for your assistance...

Hi scoobyman. Thanks for the tip. Unfortunately I do not have access to sony ericsson. Do you know of any other device I could use?
    Hi chip55
Unfortunately not, I just went for the cheapest refurbished unit of a device that fulfilled Toyota criteria on their web resource of which I posted the link before. Sorry that I can't be of more help to you with this issue.
Happy to have helped forum in a small way with a Support Ratio = 37.0

  • Unable to amend contact list after upgrade to 6300...

I upgraded my 6300 to the latest release which was 6.01. I had to do this as the phone would not talk to the latest release of PC Suite and fortunately I had another computer with an olfer version. I now find I can not edit or add contacts. Any ideas please?

    Hi,
    thanks for responding.
The phone is a 6300 RM-216 with v06.01 SW. The problem is confined to the contacts list and when I was blue toothing all the entries into a PDA one entry caused the phone to 'white screen' and recover after a while. It had some rubbisg in it. Deleting that entry did not fix the problem! All other features are working OK. The problem is the same on both computers even though they have different issues of PC Suite. The one on my laptop is the latest and the one on this computer is 6.86.9.3. Both computers are running up to date XP Pro. I have not tried deleting the whole contact list yet as I have taken a free upgrade and when that arrives I will be able to play freely! I have two other computers but have not tried with their PC Suite but guess it would make no difference. My belief is the contact file is corrupt which leaves the question as to how do I 'splat' it and start again? Can play freely later today!

  • Nokia 6300 phone contacts dissapeared

    Hi there,
My mums Nokia 6300 recently turned its self off and when it came back on the wallpaper pic had dissapeared and all the phone contacts were not visible.
When i go to copy to sim it says only 2 are copied and 300 ish are not. So i am assuming they are still there but for some reason cannot find them .
Is there a way to locate them?
    Thanks
    Ben.

Are they visible in PC Suite if you connect the phone to PC ?

  • Syncing contacts to a 6300: firstname / surname

When syncing to my 6300, Outlook contacts get their firstname and surname put together in the surname field in the 6300. I found an old topic on this subject, but it was about another phone with just one name field.
Why does the sync software not respect the firstname / surname fields?
(Version of PC Suite: 6.84.10.4 Dutch)

I do not have 6300, but does it have separate fields for first name and last name or only one field, "name"?

  • Only one mobile contact per contact why

I have a many contacts in my iPhone 5. I've noticed I can only have one phone number for a contact, sometimes companies, with one of the numbers allowed to be categorised as a "Mobile" why.
    Please assist.
    Thank you

I can tell the difference between a landline and a mobile number. And to send a text, I have to update/amend contact details though won't I?
    This wasn't the case before.
    Surely this is wrong.
Can anyone else help me please?
    Thank you,

  • ICloud, contacts, outlooks, sync...

    Hi All,
I have yet more questions re iCloud - sorry in advance.!
Basically, my phone used to always copy/sync contacts to my email account that I use on Outlook 2010.  When I started using iCloud, I agreed for it to copy/backup my contacts.
Now in my Outlook 2010, I have 2 lots of contacts, email ones and iCloud ones.
My Outlook will only add new contacts to one account - and I am unsure what to use or what to do.  I have a silly amount of contacts, and dont want these lost by mucking this up.!
    Cheers,
    Chris

    Hi,
Cheers for your reply, but I may have worded it slightly vague, and I understand what you say.
Basically, pre iCloud, my phone obtained contacts and synchronised both ways with an email address on outlook.
    I then added iCloud.
iCloud says something about backing up or syncing with contacts, and I agreed.
So I've got my contacts on outlook with my email account (not iCloud), my contacts on my phone, and no also contacts in outlook under my iCloud tab too.
I assume outlook is still adding new addresses to my email/contacts list. My phone, I am either creating new or amending contacts, and iCloud is copying that to... well to iCloud.!!
If my phone was still updating/syncing contacts with my original email account, and iCloud was then backing up my phone, the two contacts lists within outlook would be identical.
    But they're not.
So I assume my phone isn't still syncing with my old email account.
    Confused.? Cos I am now.!!

  • Sync added contacts from iPhone to Address Book

As I am out and about I add new contacts on my iPhone. But when I sync with my Mac they are ignored. This contrasts with other mobile phone suppliers who do a 'sync merge' as standard updating both the phone and PC with added and amended contacts since the last sync. How can I get iTunes to execute this most basic of functions?

I posted earlier today, asking how to get my contacts to sync both ways, or IF they can sync both ways, but so far, no one has replied. I updated my contacts on my imac (10.6.7) and when I try and sync my iphone4, it tells me if I go forward with the sync, it will effect at least 25% of my contacts on my computer, so the iphone, with the older contacts, is going to overwrite those in my address book on my mac.
I have been searching other posts to see if I can find the answer, and found this post here.  So I am wondering if resetting the sync history would help me?  I went to isync and clicked on it but the message is a bit unclear, to me anyway ;-)   It sounds like resetting the isync history will cause me to loose some information?  Can you clarify?  Or help me sort out how to get the updated contacts from my mac's address book into contacts on my iphone4?

  • 5310 can't transfer music

Whenever I try to transfer music using PC suite it converts it and puts it in my collection folder but then as it tries to transfer it to the phone it comes up with "unknown error".Sometimes it will get half way through copying before the message appears sometimes at the start there seems to be no particular point that it fails. If i try to drag and drop them not using PC suite it comes up "phone not responding" or "unable to complete operation". it all started when I was Deleteing old contacts through PC Suite and it froze. At first I couldn't amend contacts either as you would click on a contact and it would pop up for a fraction of a second then disappear but on updating pc suite this problem is solved but still can't transfer music.using latest phone software update v 05.81 according to updater. can some one help
    Rick

Hello, and thanks for that. Unfortunately I've already tried the restore road and it still does it?
The ipod shows up OK as a drive and in itunes. Its only when I try to transfer video's music etc then it starts the process after a few seconds the ipod HD starts clicking disappears from itunes and the ipod goes to the green apple black back ground and resets itself.
If anyone has any idea's please let me know before I jump up and down on it

  • Problems installing CA-42 on windows 7

I updated my system to windows 7. All other softwares I installed work fine but not the Nokia stuff.
First I tried to install Nokia PC Suite most updated version, which downloaded from the site.
When it didn't work I removed it and installed the Nokia_Connectivity_Cable_Driver_eng_us.msi. It didn't work as well.
I also tried to do many other things such as installing the software from the CD, connecting and installing, installing and connecting, and many other strange things.
I always reboot before and after, I always removed leftovers before trying a new thing, I always removed the driver that was installed wrong.
And I ALWAYS get the ! next to the driver and the massage that windows couldn't install it properly
    what should I do?!
    Solved!

    12th Jan, 2010
I had problems with this same cable and software but I got it to work.  I know you are Windows 7 users.  I am XP SP3 user with Nokia 6101 phone, but maybe you might get a clue from this.
Ok guys let's see if this helps...  the problem is NOT Nokia PC Suite, the USB to Nokia Enhancement connector ie; the CA-42 data cable, your cell phone or your computer.  It's in your computer' settings...
The answer to this problem with this particular cable is actually in the Nokia PC Suite "Help".  It's  under "Configuring connection types"  They refer to it by name.
Unfortunately, (1) you kinda have to stumble into it... thank goodness I did and,   (2) you kinda have to be a bit of a computer geek to understand what they are trying to say...
The point is that they are basically tricking the computer to "see" the USB cable as a 9 or 25 pin serial DIN cable connection that would normally go into the COM1 or COM2 ports, which are still on the back of some PCs, but not available on modern laptops anymore.
My PC is Windows XP Service Pack 3.  I will describe what I had to do to get the cable to work.  Vista and Windows 7 users… just follow the principle.
You need to (1) configure Nokia PC Suite as well as (2) your PC/Laptop (in Control Panel) to "see" the USB connection as - COM3... here's how I did it for my PC.
Step - 1:  Install the CA-42 Cable Drivers first using the install CD that was provided with the cable using "Found New Hardware"  remember this is the XP experience...
Some preamble - I thought that installing the Nokia PC Suite does all the cable driver bits as well, but it looks like you actually have to install the cable drivers (Note – cable drivers first) and then the Nokia PC Suite app software separately.  I got a “file not found error - ser2pl.sys” installing Nokia PC Suite.  You don’t get that when you let the “Found New Hardware” wizard install it from the install CD. Don't restart your computer until the end of this rather lengthy two-step process... just click "Restart later"...  I'll tell you when to restart...
START POINT (Still Step 1) - Ok, so now we are starting....
    Shut down your system...
Plug in the CA-42 USB cable into a USB port.  Important here… if you have a PC, decide on which USB port you are going to use ie; front or back USB ports.  If you successfully install the cable drivers on one USB port, you cannot go taking out the USB cable and sticking it into another USB port on the same computer.  You will lose the cable driver install completely.  However if you plug the USB cable back into the original USB port used to install the cable driver software, it will re-appear in “Device Manager”.  Maybe it does the same with laptops as well, I do not know..
Turn on your system...  do not connect your phone to the CA-42 cable yet.
On restarting, Windows will find new device (CA-42 USB to Serial), try to install it automatically and come back and say... it was not installed properly (probably because of COM port conflicts)... let that finish, close it off and ....
While that was happening a "Found New Hardware"  wizard will appear...let it happen.. do not close this.. let it sit and wait, we want to use this.... it is going to ask for the install CD, but guess what... when you insert the install CD (at least, if it's the same as the on I got) it’s going to kick off yet another install process.
Put the supplier's install CD in your player, that is going to kick off the CD's automatic install (autorun.inf),  cancel it off.. do not run the automatic CD's install, it will not work !.  Continue with Found New Hardware and let Windows find the CA-42 cable drivers on the install CD (from your drive D: or whatever) and install… do not restart your computer yet.
At the end of this, if you check Settings - Control Panel - System - Hardware - Device Manager - Ports (COM & LPT),  you should see an entry for - "CA-42 USB (COM something).  That COM something will probably be COM1 or COM2.  Highlight this and right click.. go Properties, Port Settings, Advanced – In XP, there is a box to select “COM Port No.”  Set this to COM3.  The driver should say that the “device is working properly”.  Click Apply, OK and exit Control Panel….  Do not restart yet..
So now we have XP set… let’s set the app…. Nokia PC Suite
STEP 2 – Setting Nokia PC Suite.
Some preamble - In July 2009, I bought version 6.4.8 of Nokia PC Suite with the CA-42 cable.  I installed it and I was unable to get the cell phone to see “Nokia PC Suite”.  After much trial and error, I flung it aside.
Well this past weekend , I decided to have another go at it.
I uninstalled it and downloaded and installed a more recent version from Nokia’s support site… version 7.1.40.1  … cell phone still giving “Enhancement not supported” message.  Could not believe that I was that unlucky…
Again after much trial and error, I got it to work – a classic case of the simplest thing being so darn difficult…. So here goes..
Download the latest version of  “Nokia PC Suite”, if the version you get is the one I got (7.1.40.1), , then you need to -
Do not connect the CA-42 cable to your phone yet.  It should be connected to your computer on the USB end in it’s original install USB port !!
Start up Nokia PC Suite - Go Settings, Manage Connections
Tick off only “Serial Cable (CA-42), this should be in the list assuming you installed it correctly in Step 1
Highlight it and the little spanner (Configure) at the bottom should now be enabled
Click on Configure.. the little spanner
If it is saying “COM1” click on the little down arrow to the right.  COM3 should come up in the list
Click on COM3… stop right here,  do nothing
NOW….  you plug in the Enhancement end of the cable into your phone.  If it still gives the “Enhancement not Supported” error, don’t panic.  Make sure the cable is into the phone nice and secure.  By the way, this cable tends to get “Disconnected” with the slightest movement of my almost 4yr old Nokia 6101.  Make sure you are not using the phone and the phone is in standby mode.  The phone MUST NOT be in “Contacts” or some other menu available in the phone otherwise it will not connect to Nokia PC Suite… STANDBY MODE please… I am sure I frustrated myself unintentionally by not paying attention to this detail.
Right, NOW you click on OK (the green check mark) … assuming everything else was done properly, after about 10 seconds, the model no. of your phone should appear in Nokia PC Suite.  If you get this, you are going to have a blast with this software.
So cool – using my PC….. I have since been able to delete off a lot of junk (from inbox, outbox, images etc) and free up valuable memory, amend Contacts info, do a full backup of my phone onto my PC, load in a truncated MP3 file of Doobie Brothers, "China Grove" as my ringtone (...made it myself with a free MP3 editor - 1st 30 seconds – 433Kb… yeah huge… but worth it) etc…
Still getting the hang of this software…. The only digital camera I have is the one on my phone, so now that I can take pics and get them into my PC so easily, I am going to have a lot of fun with this software as well as with other aspects of it that I am not aware of yet..  I still have to install some kind of “Modem” drivers from the CD, and there is something about upgrading your phone software…..
It has only been three days since I got it to work but, folks..  This Nokia PC Suite is outraaaaaageous.  !!!!!!!!
Oh I forgot…. Now you can restart your computer.
PS.. Whenever I restart/shutdown my system, I have to go and do the COM1 to COM3 part again in Nokia PC Suite when I turn it back on.  I have not found a way to save the setting.  Will try to attach a pic (yep….  taken with my phone, and downloaded into my PC !!!) of the CA-42 cable and CD that I got.
    Hope this helps..
The "Add Attachments" below button is not giving me any feedback.... some help please ?
Also - I use UNIBLUE's "RegistryBooster" to freshen up my XP SP3 registry.  Works fine for me.

  • Problems with Nokia 6070 and CA-42 cable

Hi I have Nokia 6070, CA-42 cable, downloaded newest Nokia PC Suite (6.82), but I still have problems with connection. I properly installed Nokia PC Suite, but I still don´t have connection, because PC can´t recognise my phone. I tried many advices written here on discussion, like repairing cable drivers, re-installing PC Suite, restarting PC, but nothing works. Could you give me advice ?. • 6300 PROBLEM AMENDING NAMES/NUMBERS

    Hello,
My problem is that whenever I try to amend a name or add a new telephone number to an existing contact my phone will not accept the change.
I am sure everything started when I connected my phone to my laptop. It started synchronising my contacts and at one point it got stuck. The screen became white for a while and then it came back as normal.
When i try to back up my contacts from phone to laptop i get a message that only 35 out of the 400 contacts can be coppied to another phone. in other words it does not back up my contacts.
    Everything else is working perfectly.
I did a firmware upgrade but has not helped.
Please let me know if anything can be done.
    Thanks

I think NOKIA is this problem not taking serious!!!
If you see the amount of this type problem.

I went to the latest backups and tried to restore, none was working.
After Letter C nothing is there, but it is visible in PC Suite!

  • Which email or which phone no. i can contact with apple after-sale service center? I need to send back to amend or replace!

my new iphone 4S was bought from las vegas only for 1 month. And it is with serious quality problem, battery did not work and has liquid came out,Now i am in china, what phone no. or which mail i can contact with apple after-sale service center? I need to send back to US to amend or replace.
All of the guys in apple now told me that it is not worldwide guarantee, which is different from the promise when i bought,i am disappointed!!!
I need your help to tell me how i can contact with them and where i can send back the iphone to amend.

The only email I have ever comes across for complaints would be [email protected] (it is not mis-spelled).  I don't know if it is still of use.
Chat is going to be your only option for getting help, and you shouldn't be surprised if they don't offer help due to your product no longer being supported (sad but true).
If you had not mentioned that you have an email confirming you registered (double-check that) I would have told you that you probably did not purchase thru Adobe and never registered it so they have no record of you owning it.  They do not email serial numbers for disc purchases - they are provided with the discs as you were told in chat.

  • Contacts Back Up Nokia 6300 on PC Suite

I am having problems with PC Suite, I don't seem to be alone! I have had a look through some of the previous posts but can't get the following sorted.
I have made a back up of my contacts etc via PC Suite from my Nokia 6300. The problem is viewing the contacts via the file manager. It only shows 3 of the contacts out of over 100. All are saved to the phone not the SIM. I am therefore not able to confirm the back up is accurate, or edit any of the contacts on my PC. The three that are showing I added to this new phone the others are copied to the phone from SIM when I put it in the new phone but as far as I can see they are all stored on the phone in exactly the same way!
It seems to be a bit of a tempramental programme, I didn't have this problem with my Motorola using a different programme.
I am using Window XP SP2, version 6.83.14.1 of PC Suite and have tried conecting via a cable and bluetooth.

No you are not alone... In order to update the firmware to 7.118, I backed up my 6300 using PC Suite and now I cannot anymore restore all of its contents.
The restoration sequencially restores SMS, contacts, and phone settings. In my case the process stops with an error in the middle of my contacts, without resuming execution for the next contact or the phone settings. The failing contact is always the same. This contact has the particularity to have 2 address lines, so it might be that this special case is not supported by the restoration program... this is just speculation from my side, it can be anything else of course.
Anyway the consequence is that I have now half of my contacts and all of the phone settings left behind in the nbu file.
Appreciated the solution mentioned to use Outlook, but this won't save my settings, nor will save specificities of my contacts that are not compatible with Outlook.
Personally I am not sure this is related to this particular phone model (6300), but must be an issue of PC Suite itself (either the backup or the restore program).
Generally speaking backup and restoration should be the most robust (same level of reliability as the OS itself), otherwise we cannot count on them to execute other programs. Thus they must be simple, like copying files and must mainly rely on the OS. In this funny case, running the phone updater has been safer than the safety measures taken!

  • Nokia 6300, iSync, and Contact Photos-

Thanks to the following links, I was able to get my new Nokia 6300 to successfully sync with my Mac’s Address Book via iSync:
    http://klauskjeldsen.dk/2007/06/08/free-nokia-6300-isync-plugin/
    http://nokia6300.net/8/new-version-of-the-nokia-6300-isync-plugin

    http://kaspers.freeflux.net/blog/archive/2007/04/13/how-to-isync-a-nokia-6300.html
Unfortunately, two things didn’t sync up: Birthdays and Contact Photos. After politely asking people if there was any way to get these to work (especially photos, as it’s nice to see someone’s picture pop up on the phone for faster recognition before you unceremoniously reject them) I tried to tackle this one on my own. I was able to dig around in the plist files of the Nokia N93 and glean the few lines that make both of these details available to the Nokia 6300 plugin.
Before we begin however, I’ve noticed some problems that can occur with Photo syncing. PLEASE READ THIS THOROUGHLY before continuing: it’ll save some head-banging and frustration later.
Failing to follow the following guidelines will result in a completely failed sync. Should this happen, I simply deleted all of my contacts on the phone (phone memory, not SIM card), tried to determine the problem, and tried again.
Also, note that if you do end up deleting all of the contacts on your phone, you’ll also lose your 1-touch dialing and the entries in your caller groups (but not the groups themselves).
    Here we go:
Do not use .GIF files — JPG only! (I didn’t test PNG)
You cannot drag-and-drop from a web-page directly onto a contact. Although this works for Address Book in that you’ll see the ‘image edit’ window pop-open, and you can save your contact, when it comes to iSync your entire sync will fail. If you want to use someone’s image (from Facebook, for example) simply drag the photo you want from the web-page onto your desktop, and then drag the photo from your desktop onto the Address Book entry’s ‘contact photo’ area. You’re then free to delete the image from your desktop.
You cannot sync with a ’smart group’ that you created within Address Book. This has more to do with iSync than the new plugin, but it’s a pain nonetheless. Physical groups only!
When a sync fails, you are not told what failed, or why it failed. iSync detailed logs are useless too, stating only:
5:28:24 PM Error [Nokia 6300] An unexpected error occured.
5:28:24 PM Error Device "Nokia 6300" synchronization failed
Fun! What I did was create a ‘temp’ group, set iSync to sync with that folder only for contacts, and then slowly add contacts into that temp group until a failure occurred so that I knew what the offending entry was.
The plugin that I’ve created is essentially just the one from the site listed above, but with some additional properties put into the PhoneContuit.plist and SyncEngine.plist files.
As with everyone else, I take no responsibility if this completely fcks up your phone or Address Book, but please do backup both your Address Book (File -> Back Up Address Book…) and your phone’s contacts (I typically just copy everything to SIM). I can say that this has worked fine for me for a day now, with a fair bit of testing. After I cleaned up my offending image-entries, it’s been great.
To install: Quit iSync, download the following zip file, and drag-and-drop the plugin into your system using the shortcut, and sync away.
