6300 - Changing Time Zone (GMT+1) Changes All Cale...

I have a 6300 and a calendar full of important meetings and so on.
Last weekend we went on to GMT+1 hour (British Summer Time).
Changing the time settings in the phone to "GMT+1" changes all the calendar times to +1 hour as well.
Why does the phone do this (is this dumb or what !) ?
How can I get the phone NOT to change the calendar times whilst changing the time of day ?
Good wishes to all.
Simon

Go to Solution.

Google calendar has resolved this problem for me by allowing Time Zone entries for Calendar items.
1. I now enter calendar entries with the local time in my Google Travel calendar.
2. I then duplicate the entry in my Google personal calendar and edit this entry to identify the destination Time Zone.
3. I then allow Google calendar to update my Outlook calendar. Entries there will show up with the destination time.
e,g. a flight departure from Madrid is scheduled for 6pm. It will show in my Google personal calendar and in my Outlook calendar as 2am the next day. It will still show in the Travel calendar as 6pm.
4. I let Ovi Suite synchronize my Nokia phone calendar with Outlook which inserts all entries with times for the appropriate time zone e.g. 2am in Madrid.
5. Now I no longer need to disable automatic Time Zone adjustment in my phone AND lie to the phone that I have NOT changed time zones whenever I change my phone clock for a new country (or Time Zone). In the Madrid example, my calendar entries while in Canada will show a 2am departure and when in Madrid will show a 6pm departure (local time).
Some benefits are:
1. Calendar times will show the local time for all entries.
2. No more calls home at 2am because I forgot the Time Zone differential.
3. No more missed appointments because I made an incorrect time adjustment.
3. Automatic Time Zone correction means my phone is always synchronized with local time. This is significant since I have observed that the phone's internal clock tends to drift. Automatic synchronization automaticallt corrects this.
Points to Consider:
1. Google is my primary calendar because I can control it's directionality.
2. Entries in my Google Travel calendar allow me to see the unadjusted times of Calendar entries, e.g. my Madrid flight is at 6pm. Since Google allows you to see multiple calendars simultaneously, I can see events with both destination and home times.
3. Google will only update one calendar to Outlook (my personal calendar) which is why the Time Zone adjusted times are updated in my Google personal calendar and then to Outlook.
4. Ovi Suite has insufficient controls on updates and sometimes will reinstall Outllok entries which have been deleted or changed. Because Outlook cannot update the Google calendars it or the Nokia calendar cannot corrupt my master calendar on Google.
5. This may not resolve all the convoluted Time Zone boundaries experience in the USA but should help.
6. Have had no problem with DST but also am not dealing with the convoluted Time Zone boundaries experience in the USA.
7. Before and currently I stll place a copy of the input data in the Description section of my Google calendar entries. These will show up in the Nokia Description unadjusted and immune from change due to outside causes.

  • Outlook Client recurring appointments time zone / GMT offset problem

I will try to describe this with text, although it's a very visual problem.  I added a post to my blog with
it so I could include pictures.  If you think you need pictures to understand the text below, please review that entry.  Please note, the one appointment instance cited below, is an example, there are many others with this same problem,
and it only happens with recurring appointments.
    Relevant System Information:
    Windows 7 Utlimate
    Office 2010 Professional Plus (14.0.6023.1000 64-bit)
    Exchange services hosted by Microsoft.
Android HTC Inspire 4G also configured as exchange active sync client.
    Issue Description:
I have a specifications meeting that is scheduled for Tuesday mornings (every 2 weeks) at 8:30 am.  In the body of the appointment, it even has this text spelled out.  "When: Occurs every 2 weeks on Tuesday effective 11/23/2010 from 8:30
AM to 11:30 AM (UTC-05:00) Eastern Time (US & Canada)." as an indicator of the actual appointment time.  The problem is that one day, several weeks after this appointment had been sent to me, Outlook 2010 decided that it was really at 1:30 PM.
Since that time it's been showing incorrectly on my calendar at 1:30 PM.   So, I recognized almost immediately that this was a 5 hour difference, which happens to also be my timezone offset (except that I'm currently in daylight savings time -- so
    it's really a -4 offset right now).
I ran the 2010 service pack 1 installer, based on the suggestion of my IT group, and found I already had the service pack installed.  I've tried the timezone tool as well and that didn't work.  Please keep reading.
Next I went to my exchange host with outlook web access.   The appointment is closer to correct there, showing at 9:30am.  It think here it almost seems as though it's applying the DST, but not correctly, maybe doubling it?.
Meanwhile, back in outlook, if I go to the scheduling assistant and look at my time while making an appointment with other invitees it - much to my surprise - matches the time in OWA, not the time in outlook client.
Finally, if I go to my Android and look at the appointment, it is correct.  8:30 AM.
    So to summarize:
    Real Appoinment:   8:30 AM
    Outlook Client Time: 1:30 PM
OWA / Exchange Time: 9:30 AM
    Android Calendar Time: 8:30 AM
This applies to many others, this is just a convenient example.
This applies only to recurring appointments.
Any help would be very appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Jon

Status Update, and recommended next steps:
I opened a ticket with HTC support the day before yesterday (Ticket # 03543601). The initial response was an email reply with the typical level one suggestion to remove and re-add the Exchange ActiveSync account on my phone, and if that didn't resolve the
issue to do a hard reset and then add the account again. Since I have multiple users experiencing this same issue, where the common denominator seems to be centralized around the move from Outlook 2007 to 2010 and the HTC Gingerbread OS, I convinced them that
this would not be an acceptable remedy, and my case was immediately escalated without hesitation. I will say that though I don't have a resolution, I'll applaud HTC for not giving me the runaround and giving me a live person who could talk intelligently about
    the issue.
Today, I received a phone call back on this ticket  from someone in the escalations department at HTC named Travis. After explaining the issue in detail to him and referencing
this specific thread, he acknowledged that it did in fact sound like a coding issue coming from the device where the value in the “dispidApptTZDefStartDisplay” property was being set improperly by the device/stock email/calendar application in their implementation
of ActiveSync. He then stated that he would relay this to the developers to look into the issue. He further elaborated that the case would either be in a status of, "this is being looked into", or "We believe this to be resolved in [x] update". He said that
they will probably continue releasing updates for the Incredible (I did not specifically ask about the Incredible 2), and while the Incredible 2 is definitely slated to get Ice Cream Sandwich, the Incredible one is still in a classification of, "being evaluated".
Personally, I doubt that the Inc 1 will get ICS, but it is possible. From what I have read, the general stance is that phones will be updated for 18 months after release, and the Inc 1 is 24 months old this month (bummer - I REALLY like this phone).
According to Verizon and HTC, these are the phones that will get ICS (or Android 4.0):
Ice Cream Sandwich Coming to Many Verizon Wireless Smartphones
Android 4.0, Ice Cream Sandwich Updates
While it is possible that an update will be released for the Incredible 1 to fix this issue, it will likely be months before one is available, so we'll probably have to move to Touchdown for Exchange by NitroDesk in order to resolve this issue....or move to
a newer phone with ICS 4.0.
Speaking of which, there is a whole laundry list of issues with Exchange ActiveSync and third-party devices. A number of them are listed in this Microsoft KB article:
Current issues with Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync and third-party devices
    Per the article:
Microsoft's recommendation for Android - Upgrade to Android OS 4.0
Microsoft's recommendation for iPhone/iOS devices - Upgrade to iOS version 5
So, for anyone on Android experiencing this issue (or others listed in the Microsoft KB above), if your phone is likely to get ICS soon, then you may want to hold on and just be vigilant about checking your calendar on OWA. If your phone isn't slated to get
ICS or if you can't wait, my recommendation is to get Touchdown for $20. You may still have to delete and re-create appointments that are wrong, but hopefully the issue won't happen any more once you move to Touchdown. And if they do, at least you've got a
shot at a more rapid fix with a company like NitroDesk. (no offense HTC).
Good luck. I probably won't post again unless I get notice of a fix for this specific issue or some other significantly useful information.

  • Problem in converting the String to Date with time zone GMT

    Hi,
When I tried to convert the string 12/05/2009 to Date, the time zone is set to BST.On the other hand, for the date 12/12/2009, the time zone is set to GMT. What should I do to get the time zone as GMT all the time.?
    SimpleDateFormat formatter = new SimpleDateFormat("dd/MM/yyyy");
    String dateString = "12/05/2009";
    System.out.println(myDate.toString());

I think you are all missing the point. java.util.Date objects always alway always store the date as the number of milliseconds since 1/1/1970 UTC so the only TimeZone they have its the implicit UTC. When you use the Date.toString() method the toString() method gets the default time zone from your environment and formats the data accordingly. This means that the same Date object will, by default, produce a different result for France and Australia and the US.
So, if you have the date "12/5/2009" as a String then to convert it to a java.util.Date you must specify what TimeZone is implied. If it is your system time zone then you can just create a SimpleDateFormat object with the correct format and then use the parse() method to create the java.util.Date object and this will automatically be converted to UTC. If the date String represents some other time zone then you must explicitly set the time zone of the SimpleDateFormat object before parsing the string.
The same approach applies when converting a java.util.Date object to a String. If you want anything other than your system time zone then you must explicitly tell the SimpleDateFormat what time zone you want the result formatted for.

Thanks for sending me your IMEI Kju!
I checked which software you have in your phone (it's generic for Russia) and installed the same version in my phone but i still see GMT+03:00.
Would it be possible for you to do a backup of your phone and then do a repair of the phones software using PC Companion and let me know if that helps?
Did you update to the new firmware using PC Companion, Bridge for Mac or Update Center in the phone?

  • How do I find Photos taken in a particular time zone?

Hi, I have several hundred pictures taken in and around Calgary Alberta. Lots of the pictures have the correct time but the wrong time zone (GMT instead of MST). If I batch change the time zone from GMT to the correct one the times get changed also and are out by 7 hours. If I then change the time using the Adjust Date/Time meta data menu the time zone changes back to GMT!
So I changed the time by 7 hours and then batch changed the time zone and it works.
Now I need a way to find all the pictures that have the time zone of GMT in amongst the hundreds of correct ones. I have tried smart albums but cannot find a way to filter for time zones - Help!
    Thanks
    P.S. I am using Aperture 3

Thanks so much for your response.  I tried that though and it did not work... any other suggestions?

  • Missing Newfoundland time zone?

I've been going to school in Newfoundland for the past few years. Newfoundland is in its own little time zone, GMT -3:30. Unfortunately, there doesn't seem to be a city in that time zone in the ipod setup. Consequently, I have to change the time as well as the city whenever I travel. Can anyone think of any workaround or solution?

In addition to contacting Apple, perhaps there's one other strategy that might bring the matter of the misssing Newfoundland time zone to a quicker resolution.
If you bring the matter to the attention of your provincial MHA and/or federal MP, they might be able to contact someone in Apple's Canadian office and ask them if there's a particular reason why all Canadian time zones were not included in the iPod. And let the Canadian office know it would reflect well on their corporate residency if they were able to get Apple to address this matter.
I'm not suggesting any government can solve this problem, just that they may be able to make it a bit more prominent on Apple's radar screen.

  • Vista Calendar time zone shift

    Windows Vista, current updates
    Nokia PC Suite 6.85.14.1
    Phone is Nokia 6120c
    Connected by USB
Vista is set to timezone (GMT+10:00) Canberra, Melbourne, Sydney
    Phone is set to
    Time Zone: Local time
    Network operator time: Auto-update
    Sync settings are
    Contacts to Windows Contacts
    Calendar to Windows Calendar
    The problem:
A calendar item is entered on the phone. When it is synchronised to the computer, the appointment appears in Windows Calendar with a time 10 hours later.
A calendar item is entered on Windows Calendar. When it is synchronised to the phone, the phone shows it at the correct time.
After you synchronise a few times, a calendar appointment appears can appear multiple times with +10 hour, +20 hour etc.
What needs to be done to make the phone / Nokia PC Suite and Windows Calendar think they are using the same time zone, instead of shifting all phone calendar appointments by 10 hours when synchronising?

I have exactly the same problem. My N80 syncs OK with Mac OSX iCal but gets confused by Vista's calendar.
Changing the recurring items in Windows Calendar to have a time zone of "floating" seemed to help a little - they are now only 1 hour out instead of 10(or 11).
It seems that the experts in the northern hemisphere are not interested in this problem at this time of year. Maybe we should post the problem again in a few months.

  • Time Zone Vs. iCal Events

I just moved from LA to NYC and when I changed the time zone on my Mac all of my iCal events switched to three hours earlier. I have up to ten events nearly every day for the next several months and can not go in and change them one by one. Can someone let me know if there is a comprehensive quick fix to this?

I know this will sound strange but, go to ICAL/Preferences/Advanced and uncheck"Turn on time zone support" . That worked for me when we moved from NJ to CA. Good luck.

  • Time zone doesn't work on WRP400 VoIP router firmware 2.00.32

I purchased a WRP400 wi-fi router (two SIP VoIP ATA ports) and loaded the latest firmware (2.00.32). This code is bugware. Not only do the configuration screens not work properly in FIrefox (it keeps giving "your connection has been reset by the peer server") but the time zone is Pacific Daylight (GMT-8, DST+1, California) even after I set the proper values (Eastern, GMT-5, DST+1) for my region and restart the router.
I've tried switching to a different manually-specified NTP server, I've tried other time zone selections but consistently I get anything except Montréal/Toronto/New York time or the time zone I'd asked for. Even Newfoundland time gives (gag me with a spoon!) California.
Unfortunately, this is a voice-over-IP box so this wrong time information is fed to every telephone in my office as part of the Caller ID data every time a call comes in. I see no means to turn NTP off and specify a date and time manually.
Short of putting up a "fake" (three hours ahead) NTP server somewhere on the local network and forcing this box to synchronise to that, is there any way to get the WRP400 to send the correct time to the telephone handsets if I'm not in California but three time zones further east?

Setup → Basic Setup → Time Setting
http://192.168.15.1/index.asp (at the bottom of the 'Basic' tab's page)
    Voice → Regional → Miscellaneous
http://192.168.15.1/admin/voice/ (at the bottom of the 'Regional' tab's page)
If I set them both to local time the system is displaying GMT (so four hours ahead, as local time is EDT).
If I leave the voice settings at Cisco's California defaults and change just the "Basic Setup - Time Setting" to any local time zone in my region the system displays California time.
So far, the only time I've seen correct and local data displayed is by setting:
Setup → Basic Setup → Time Setting to "GMT - Liberia - no DST"
Voice → Regional → Miscellaneous to my local time zone (GMT-5 - Eastern - Toronto/Montréal)
Setting both configuration values (router basic setup and voice regional) to a valid, local time zone outside California  seems to be applying two offsets to the call display timestamp in some invalid manner. This is a bug.
Time to pack up this equipment and ship it to Liberia?

  • USER TIME ZONE IN SU01

    Dear All,
I have requirement to releated to User Time Zone. My  X user want to posting date should be change according shift wise like (A, B, C). For Example : X user is woking in C Shift (11:  00 PM Date 19.04.2011 to 8 : 00 AM Date 20.04.2011) then posting date will be 20.04.2011 at 8:00 AM. At presently System change the posting date at 12:00.  I want to posting date will be change at 8:00 AM on particular User.

    Hi Aman,
This may not be possible, as time zone is same for all the users.
Even though you specify different time for different users in SU01 report, this doesnt reflect when posting happens.

  • Time zone event shifting problem - please help

    Hi,
I have a question: i have done my calendar in ical. I travel with my computer constantly and would like to change time zones accordingly, so my emails and emails i receive are displayed with correct time, etc.. I did my calendar when I was in the US (EST), now that I am in Europe and I change the time zone in the preferences, all my events shift 6 hours. If i enable time zone support in ical preferences, it seems to give me an option to assign each event a different time zone. don't want or need this. Can i avoid ical shifting my (correct) times for events alltogether??
    Many thanks for your help!

Just found a utility recommended on a different thread to this same question: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=3854700&#3854700
The download link for the utility is, http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/19409.
I have not tried it out, but it certainly seems to address the right issue.

  • Time Zone and WLS6SP1 and date time problem

    Hi,
We are having our development WebLogic server on a Solaris 2.8 machine. The time
zone of that machine is GMT+5
How ever when we start weblogic in the telnet console, we see this
    LD_LIBRARY_PATH=.......
    <Jul 5, 2001 1:19:46 AM GMT-05:00> <Info> <Security> <Getting boot password from
    user.>
Enter password to boot WebLogic server:
It shows the time as GMT-5.
All our application client machines are at GMT+5.30.So when we update from our
application, the datetime fields go as one day lesser(we have our own serializable
component which does the updating). If i enter Dec 10 2000 in our applet client
and try updating, it goes as Dec 9 2000 into the database.
We tried on a NT machine which had GMT+5.30 as the time zone and it showed GMT+5.30
while starting weblogic. And the dates are updated properly.
Does WLS on Solaris take the timezone, etc from some other place?
Is there any workaround for this?
    Thanks in Advance,
    Ramkumar

We had the same thing using ReflectionX to connect. Users connection with Telnet
caused weblogic to log with the default timezone ( which included the effects of
daylight savings time ), while those users who connected with Rexec caused weblogic
to use GMT in its logging. This was with weblogic 6.0 sp2

How are you starting up your server? We had a similar situation at our
    site, and
it was due to the fact that we were using exceed to log into our sun box.
    Exceed
was grabbing the users timezone info off of his/her local windows box.
is this what is happening for you?

  • Time zone adjustments and smart album filters

I just returned from a photo safari in Southeast Asia and while there I had my cameras set to the correct local time (GMT+7). Upon importing to Aperture I set both Camera Time and Actual TIme to the right place and chugged ahead. Now when I look at an actual image file's info the time is 'adjusted' for MST (my home time zone) but in Aperture the Meta Tooltips and Metadata show the GMT+7 time.
Now I want to create Smart Albums with the photos from each day from my (two) cameras. I've tried using the Date and Calendar filters but they both seem to use the MST time rather than the appropriate 'local' time. If I add "GMT" to the Date filter is does filter by GMT but that's not the result I want either.
Any hints on how to get this right?

    Neil,
I've been struggling with similar issues to varying degrees for some time now. I have found it extremely frustrating in my attempts to adjust the date to reflect proper time zones and local times. The only time it seems to "get it right" is when I have my camera set to my local time zone, shoot in my local time zone and upload to my computer in my local time zone.
This is all fine and dandy for when I am shooting locally, but the reality for any photographer is that you never shoot just locally. That said, I have sought help on this issue myself and wrung my head to try to find an answer.
Thus far, I have come to one possible conclusion. It may have something to do with the way the computer's time zone is set in the system preferences. If you have the time zone set to "set time zone automatically using current location" this could throw things off. I am not certain about this, but I think it may have something to do with what is going on.
In your case, you had set the camera to the proper time zone, and when you imported the images, you set the camera and actual time zones to the proper time. However, if you have the time zone setting to set automatically based on location and you didn't import (or upload) the images in that time zone, it may throw things off.
For example, you set your camera for Cambodia time. You then import your images in New York. you set the camera time and the actual time to Cambodia time, but the computer time zone is set to New York EST. I think if you turn off (if you have it on in the first place) the automatic time zone setting, it may solve your problem. You may even have to set the time zone on your computer to the local time zone that you took the pictures in.
Aperture is really vague about how to go about doing this. It seems like it should be really simple and straight forward, but for months I have been scratching my head trying to figure out what is going wrong. It got me all confused as to what the camera time means and what the actual time means, etc.
Anyway, I am not sure if this is the answer that you are looking for. I am looking for answers myself, but rather than start my own thread, I thought I would chime in on yours to see if we can't get the ball rolling with some other users.

  • Time Zone not observed in iOS 7 subscribed calendar but is in Mavericks

I have a calendar which I subscribe to from both my MacBook Pro and my iPhone. The specific calendar is an NFL calendar at webcal://www.southendzone.com/ical/nfl.ics
When I view the calendar on my MacBook Pro it shows me all the kick off times in my time zone, GMT and it has always done this without any effort on my part.
No matter what I've tried with time zone support under iOS 7 I can't get my iPhone to show me the calendar in anything but the local time so a game scheduled to start at 01:25 GMT shows up on my iPhone as starting at 19:25. Playing with different time zones I can get all my own calendars to shift but entries for this calendar seem to be etched in stone.
Is there something I'm doing wrong?

I am experiencing similar type of issue.  I subscribed to a Calendar which has scheduled meeting from my time zone and different time zone.  When I subscribe in OS X, it shows flawlessly on local time. But when I do it in IOS 7,  it shows MST as-is in EST time zone and no matter we play around all the time zone setting in General tab or Mail/Calendar tab.  It's not helping.
Appears to be a bug in IOS 7.  It needs to be reported to Apple.
