6300 iSync Mac

I am having trouble synchnosing my Nokia 6300 to iSync on my Macintosh computer. It says the device is not supported by iSync. Also it doesn't appear even if I connect using a USB cable. Any ideas ?

This is normal. The 6300 is not supported (yet), but there is a fix for that !
You need to add it manually to the list of supported phones by copying the setup of a similar phone (Nokia 6280).

  • Nokia 6300, iSync, and Contact Photos-

Thanks to the following links, I was able to get my new Nokia 6300 to successfully sync with my Mac’s Address Book via iSync:
    http://klauskjeldsen.dk/2007/06/08/free-nokia-6300-isync-plugin/
    http://nokia6300.net/8/new-version-of-the-nokia-6300-isync-plugin
    http://brent.kearneys.ca/technology/2007/how-to-sync-a-nokia-6300-on-osx/
    http://kaspers.freeflux.net/blog/archive/2007/04/13/how-to-isync-a-nokia-6300.html
Unfortunately, two things didn’t sync up: Birthdays and Contact Photos. After politely asking people if there was any way to get these to work (especially photos, as it’s nice to see someone’s picture pop up on the phone for faster recognition before you unceremoniously reject them) I tried to tackle this one on my own. I was able to dig around in the plist files of the Nokia N93 and glean the few lines that make both of these details available to the Nokia 6300 plugin.
Before we begin however, I’ve noticed some problems that can occur with Photo syncing. PLEASE READ THIS THOROUGHLY before continuing: it’ll save some head-banging and frustration later.
Failing to follow the following guidelines will result in a completely failed sync. Should this happen, I simply deleted all of my contacts on the phone (phone memory, not SIM card), tried to determine the problem, and tried again.
Also, note that if you do end up deleting all of the contacts on your phone, you’ll also lose your 1-touch dialing and the entries in your caller groups (but not the groups themselves).
    Here we go:
Do not use .GIF files — JPG only! (I didn’t test PNG)
You cannot drag-and-drop from a web-page directly onto a contact. Although this works for Address Book in that you’ll see the ‘image edit’ window pop-open, and you can save your contact, when it comes to iSync your entire sync will fail. If you want to use someone’s image (from Facebook, for example) simply drag the photo you want from the web-page onto your desktop, and then drag the photo from your desktop onto the Address Book entry’s ‘contact photo’ area. You’re then free to delete the image from your desktop.
You cannot sync with a ’smart group’ that you created within Address Book. This has more to do with iSync than the new plugin, but it’s a pain nonetheless. Physical groups only!
When a sync fails, you are not told what failed, or why it failed. iSync detailed logs are useless too, stating only:
5:28:24 PM Error [Nokia 6300] An unexpected error occured.
5:28:24 PM Error Device "Nokia 6300" synchronization failed
Fun! What I did was create a ‘temp’ group, set iSync to sync with that folder only for contacts, and then slowly add contacts into that temp group until a failure occurred so that I knew what the offending entry was.
The plugin that I’ve created is essentially just the one from the site listed above, but with some additional properties put into the PhoneContuit.plist and SyncEngine.plist files.
As with everyone else, I take no responsibility if this completely fcks up your phone or Address Book, but please do backup both your Address Book (File -> Back Up Address Book…) and your phone’s contacts (I typically just copy everything to SIM). I can say that this has worked fine for me for a day now, with a fair bit of testing. After I cleaned up my offending image-entries, it’s been great.
To install: Quit iSync, download the following zip file, and drag-and-drop the plugin into your system using the shortcut, and sync away.

  • ISync / .Mac sync is... out of sync

I changed the names of two of my Calendars a couple of months ago, and added a couple more calendars and I'm living with the consequences ever after.
First of all, I had endless problems with the old calendars not going away, as the old calendar names remained on the .Mac server. I eventually worked around this by:
    1. dumping my last good calendar out to a file,
    2. deleting everything on all of my Macs' calendars,
    3. syncing with .Mac on each computer, making sure I was replacing all calendar data on .Mac with what was on the computer
    4. importing the good calendar backup to one of my Macs
    5. repeating step 3
    6. repeating step 4
... and so on. Eventually, all my calendars on all my computers say the same thing and the old calendars are gone.
Now I have a problem with iSync, which has all the old calendars and duplicates of each new one.
I bought a copy of Leopard, did a completely fresh install on each computer (i.e. removing Tiger completely), but as soon as I added my phone into iSync, I got the same problem.
I suppose this must mean there's bad data on the .Mac copy of my calendar, but with no web interface to interact with, I can't put it right... or can I? Do any of you know how to sort this out?

Take a look through the following list of Apple Knowledge Base articles to see if any of these problems/fixes sound like your issue. There's a bunch of iCal syncing stuff in here, but some of it is at the other end (iCal syncing with phones):
    http://support.apple.com/kb/index?page=search&q=kmosx5%20ical
This is a search for "kmosx5" (Apple's code for Leopard related stuf) and "ical".

  • Isync/.mac sync and mail accounts

Mail checks 3 email accounts for me. And .Mac is set to sync my mail accounts and settings across two computers.
The thing is, every time I open Mail (on either computer), .mac will eventually sync, and I get the "this is going to change >5% of your mail accounts" warning. It says it is going to delete two accounts, modify zero, and add two. I always just click ok.
But it's getting to the point it's annoying. So today I clicked the "details" section- and it shows the accounts that are supposed to be added/deleted- and they are identical.
Everything else syncs fine, without error.
is there something funny about mail account syncing? Why does it do this every single bloody time .mac runs a sync?!
    Thanks!

You should ask in the .Mac Sync forum. iSync doesn't do any kind of Mail syncing - it's for syncing to phones and PDAs.

  • ISync & .Mac ruined my life

I have been syncing my bluuetooth phone to my mac for some time now just fine. Now that I have a .Mac account to sync my contacts and bookmarks across three macs, it's friggin ****. I sync to .mac and then to the phone, and now countless entries are missing from my phone. I spent considerable time today deleting dupes from each source, and combining email and phone numbers into one person's name card, and now tons of data is gone. When I open a persons card, I only see an email and no phone numbers even though there were two numbers there a few minutes ago. My iSync is set to sync only entries that have phone munbers to the phone, but half of them are gone now and the associated enrties in my address book no longer have numbers. Where the **** did they go? This system is really f*cked up. How could it just arbitrarily delete data?

    Hello All,
To relay my story which i hope may help some people avaid grief. My old nokia 6600 synced beautifully. Bit old so i thought i would upgrade to an O2. After 1 week of messing around and buying $50 of special software on the net. Syncing never worked properly, sold the O2 a week later. Then when i tried go back to sync my nokia, all the O/S stuffed up and i had to re format my powerbook completely. Horrible experience. No more 3rd party software i say.
After a year my 6600 is really getting old, bought a new ericson k700. OOPs never checked but that phone will not sync without 3rd party software. Not doing that again, so i sold the ericson after 3 days.
A week later, i bought a motorola V3. great looking phone and isync comaptible. What they do not tell you is that the motorola address book system is rubbish. Only lets you have 2 numbers and email per name. I have addresses and notes on all my contacts. Sold the V3 after a week. BUT, the motorola when it syncs has a bad habit of wiping out your address book. Went to my back up but still lost a few recent contacts.
Now i am back to my old worn out 6600 and down a few hundred dollars on reselling phones. I still have to upgrade my phone, the 6600 wants a rest.
    Recommendations
1 - check the nokia site for up to date isync compatible phones. Even downloading a plug in from this site is OK. Then buy your phone from the list. (Same for ericson and others, i suppose, but i like nokia as a personal preferrence)
2 - Do not buy or install any third party plug ins unless you have checked it on the discussion boards with a number of sources and are sure it will work. They should be cheap ($10) and simple. Careful, as the people that sell this software are on our discussion boards promoting their products. Like my O2 experience, complex 3rd party plug ins can wreck your system.
3 - If , like me, you can not find a compatible phone that you like from the compatible list, wait. Nokia makes new models all the time but the plug ins may take a while. Some models may not be compatible at all. eg 5700 may never have a plug in and the new 6120 may take a while to come out.
I am still waiting for a phone to come along that i would like to buy. In the mean time i keep the bandaids on my 6600.

  • Isync Mac OS X 10.5.4 issu

After installing the 10.5.4 combo isync did not longer started. I tried many suggested solutions (e.g. move to desktop and back, empty cache, empty sync services files, reinstall combo, using pacifist to re-install isync from combo) on various forums but no success. . . I am desperate even the icon is not longer correct. With "Get info" it states: Version 3.0.2.

Yes, had the same problem. I have done a workaround like so. If you go to Applicatations, right-click on iSync, open package, navigate to iSync under the MacOS folder. That should fire up iSync, with a Terminal session. It will enable you to do the iSync stuff and close it all down when you've finished. You can also put an alias of the file on your desktop to save navigating to the Applications folder all the time.
See if that works for you.

  • 6085 and iSync / Mac

I just bought a 6085 for my wife and just found out that it's neither natively supported by iSync, nor is there a plugin from Nokia for this phone.
    Two Questions:
    a) why the heck does iSync need a specific plugin for each model? What about a standardized protocol which is supported by all series 40 models? I just don't get the necessity for model-specific drivers.
    b) when can I expect a plugin for iSync 2.4 on MacOS X?
    /ol

As others seem to have the same problem: here is my solution: Edit the file /Applications/iSync.app/Contents/PlugIns/ApplePhoneConduit.syncdevice/Contents/PlugIns/PhoneModelsSync.phoneplugin/Contents/Resources/MetaClasses.plist and add an entry somewhere after the one for e.g. the 6280:<key>com.nokia.6085</key>

  • Events in iCal doubled after use of iSync and Nokia 6300

    Hi,
I’ve got a problem with the sync though iSync of the Nokia 6300 and iCal on my Mac – a problem which might be related to the imported phoneplugin – but I really don’t think so, as other users doesn't seem to have any problems with this phoneplugin:
    http://nokia6300.net/3/isync-and-nokia-6300
    The story goes like this:
During sync with iSync somehow over 505 of the events are doubled in both iCal on my PowerBook G4 with OS X 10.4. AND in the calender of Nokia 6300. If I sync three times an event is tripled in both iCal and phone etc. It seems like iCal doen’t want to obey the phone during sync – and I always use the phone as my primary source – as far as I know, anyway. iCal is thus used as a backup.
And there is another curious thing going on:
I’ve created my own calender in iCal. Even though I subscribe to Holidays and Weeknumbers in iCal, they are turn of during sync with iSync. But still they emerge in the calender of my Nokia 6300 after sync. As far as I can see, the setup is correct.
If anyone knows how to deal with these issues, I’d be must greatful, as deleting all these extra events in the phone and iCal after each sync is both rather irritating and terrible time consuming.

  • ISync + Nokia 6300 problem

This problem appeared literally overnight and has me completely stumped.
iSync has stopped syncing (or my Nokia 6300 has stopped sending) current- and future-month events to iCal. I have synced a number of times, tried removing the phone from the iSync list and re-adding it, and all that happens is all events for all months prior to the current month get synced. New events are not being added.
    Any ideas??

  • Motorola E815, Address Book, iSync 2.1.1, Mac OS 10.4.3

I just replaced my Motorola v60i which worked perfectly fine with Address Book, iSync, Mac OS X 10.4.3, on a PowerBook G4. I upgraded to the Motorola E815 and although it syncs through Bluetooth it does not sync numbers with wait commands (i.e., 9785551212w1234w1) properly. The w is the wait command for burst dialing whereas 9785551212 would be sent, then you would press the right smart key to send 1234 (a password), and then you would press the right smart key to send 1 (to play a message). When the infomation is synced, iSync sends 978555121212341.
If you manually enter the wait command on the phone and then sync it eliminates the w when synced to the Address Book.
I played with entering a upper case W, but when synced, it converts it to a 9.
Has anyone run into this? Is there a fix for this? Manually editing the numbers with w commands would be a real hassel.
I contacted Verizon Wireless (Massachusetts) and they directed me to Motorola. After 6 calls to Motorola and 2-hours on the phone because their system kept hanging up on me, a support representative told be "Oh, you have a Macintosh. We don't support the Macintosh so call Apple." Real helpful. ;-(
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Mike, thanks for your response and advise.
I talked to Apple via AppleCare Tech Support. Paul (the technician) was extremely helpful and we worked through the issue.
What we did was to create a test user account and try syncing from the e815 to the Mac. That worked and all numbers with a w in them transferred fine. We deleted the test user.
In my primary user account, we deleted the e815 from the Bluetooth System Preference, deleted the iSync device, deleted com.apple.Syndication.plist and com.apple.isync.plist from the Library > Preferences folders. Restarted the computer with Disk 1 of the original Mac OS X Installation CD and checked and repaired the harddrive. We restarted again.
We set up the e815 in the Bluetooth System Preference. We established a connection in iSync. We than synced the phone. After syncing the e815 did not have the w in the numbers on the e815.
We reset the device (phone) in inSync, which deleted all the information and transferred the data from the Address Book to the e815. The w were not in the e815.
I then entered the w using the Insert Wait command in the e815 and resynced. Everything worked. So, the key "seems" to be to insert the w in the cellular telephone and then sync to the Macintosh. We synced several times afterwards and everything seems fine now.
Paul (at AppleCare), you are awesome! Thanks so much.
FYI - Paul said he would escalate the issue and hopefully Motorola or Apple will fix this "feature."

  • ISync lack of support

I have one of the most popular phones on the UK market - the Nokia 6300 - and iSync doesn't sync to it. What is more iSync doesn't even have an e-mail support desk. I therefore cannot find out whether a syncing plug in is planned. The patchiness of Apple's product offerings means I am seriously considering going back to Windows. Does Apple really want to be a serious business provider or is it happy splashing around in the consumer pool? Discuss

Discuss? What's to discuss? The Nokia 6300 has worked fine with iSync since its release...
Clearly you didn't try typing 'nokia 6300 isync' into Google before posting because you would've instantly found at least a couple of commercial Nokia 6300 iSync Plugins, plus other free ones too.
Even if you had searched these very forums for the same terms before posting you would've found a solution in approximately 3 - 4 seconds...
