6300 Voice dialing / voice tags

Hi, have just upgraded from a 6230i to a 6300. The 6230i would let you record your own voice tags to use with voice dialing but I cannot find if this is possible with the 6300. It generates it's own tags but I don't speak like a voice synthesiser so it does not recognise me when I try to use voice dialing. Anyone got any ideas?? If not the phone will be going back (which is a shame because I like it otherwise)
Thanks
Dan

What on Earth are Nokia playing at?
The voice tag system on my old 6230i was really simple and really fantastic.  Unlike my 6300, I didn't need to say the name as it was spelt for that contact and I didn't need to sound like Stephen Hawking.  It was also easy to provide individual voice tags to particular numbers for each contact.  In contrast, I've only been able to use the voice dialling on my 6300 for dialling the default number for that contact.  This is despite the fact it  seems to recognise that various types of numbers for a particular contact exist because it says "home", "mobile" etc after repeating the name of the contact and before dialling.
Why why oh why did Nokia make this functionality downgrade to the "upgraded" 6300?
Does anyone know of a different mobile phone company that uses the same voice dialling system as the 6230i had?  The contract's up for my 6300 upgrade from my 6230i and I could do with finding a phone that uses the old voice dialling system that the 6230i had.

  • 6300 voice tags

Having updated from 6230i I am suprised at Nokia putting voice tags on all contacts.
This makes voice recognition very difficult eg my voice works much better than my wifes.
Why don't Nokia provide the ability to remove voice tags on contacts so you can limit the number to your most used and so improve the ability of the robot getting the right contact.
To get round this problem I have put a few contacts in phone memory for use with Bluetooth so the phone is LEGAL when driving.(i.e it gets right contact and not a list)
Nokia should take note, as at the moment the phone even with a bluetooth handset would not be legal in UK as you have to scroll/ use phone to get right contact

I have a 6233 and there is no option for it to play the voice tag of the person that is calling me. I suspect it is the same for the 6300.

  • 6300 - how do i turn off voice tags - SO ANNOYING

Now i've got my new Nokia 6300, (of which i must say is NOWHERE near as good as the 6230i & REALLY regret buying this phone).
Anyway, does anyone know how to turn off the voice tags when connected to a bluetooth headset?

You guys must have a very different 6300 than I do. Although it is not perfect in every way, I simply love mine. I find it to be incredibly refined with very few flaws. Of course I am running the latest version of the firmware (v.5.5) and mine is unbranded. I think that might make a difference, especially if you are running an early buggy firmware version. Also, I don't use the voice dialing function at all so I can't comment on that. It is true that many people have reported problems with that function, however, I haven't had any need to turn it off or deactivate it.
Of course it would be better if the phone had more internal memory but I haven't found that to be much of a problem since one can expand the memory up to 2 gigs with micro SD cards. The 6230i's expandability I believe is limited to 512 meg if I recall correctly and its screen is pretty bad to put it mildly. Anyway, I simply store and move most apps and everything else I can over to the card memory, thereby freeing up as much internal phone memory as possible which leaves me with over 3 megs free internal phone memory. Hasn't caused me any inconvenience yet, although I imagine if I tried to transfer a file larger than 3 megs via bluetooth to the phone, that might not be possible. I don't see that as being a major problem though.
There are so many things that are new, different and BETTER on this phone compared to older phones (even the 6233 which is not that old), that I really love. For example, the fabulous display that displays 16 million colors and about 14 lines of very sharp text in Opera Mini, and that doesn't turn off too quickly and can be read when the back light is off; the cool flashing notification lights that alert you to unread messages, missed calls, voice mails, unviewed reminders, etc; the way the radio auto tunes itself to available stations; the ability to have flashlite animated wallpaper and screensavers which allows for the display of some great stuff, for example, a variety of nice large animated clock wallpapers (available for free download from the web); the way almost every menu and function is so much more refined than on previous phones; the solid stainless steel case and slim form factor; the overall great build quality (except for the rattling power on switch, which is a very minor issue); the standard mini USB connector, (instead of the horrible proprietary pop port); and I'm sure I could think of more things but these are just some of the things that occur to me quickly.
Try browsing the web with Opera Mini 4 beta 3 on the 6300. It is just amazing what that little screen can do.
    Currently using 6300 & 6233 (backup)

  • 6300 cannot change voice tag

Why 6300 can not change voice tags for contacts? Is there any software update available?

The voice recognition system is brilliant. Just you have to guess how to work it!
First, play a voice tag for a name you would like the voice recognition system to cope with. To do this, go into names, select the contact. You get the number and the name below with the 'pacman' voice symbol next to it. Select the name and hit 'option' key, then scroll down to 'play voice tag'.
Listen to the phone's pronunciation. Now hit red key to come out of the address book back to main page and press and hold the 'name' button until it says 'speak now'.
Say the name as you heard the phone say it. Hopefully one of the names it guesses will be it.... select the right name and then press the centre key... 'select'. It will start to dial so immediately hang up by hitting red key.
By doing this is learns the right selection, you can even teach it to recognise different numbers for the same name....i.e. if you have "paul(m)" as a mobile entry and "paul (h)" for a home number you can train it to go for "paul (m)" by saying "paul mobile"... or whatever you want...
Once you know how the phone pronounces stuff you don't have to listen to each voice tag as you can guess how the phone will say it, then, using the method described above, you re-train it to recognise it the way YOU want to say it
Quickly it learns and the list of options get less and less....
    Hope this helps!
Best wishes, and happy voice dialling

  • N70 voice tags

can someone please tell me why nokia has dropped self recorded voice tags for phoneing people and opted for a robot that speaks my contacts names in an alien language? i always end up phoneing people that i'm not intending to..... also is there any way of getting rid of it and recording my own or not?

    Hi kosik
Firstly, it isn't possible in N70 to record your own voice tags. For each of your contacts a name is synthesised automatically and compared with your voice when you do voice dialling.
When you use voice dialling, the phone adapts to your voice. This adaptation can be reset (or turned off completely). Go to Voice Com (usually in Tools folder), and select Options; Settings; Remove my adapts.
To invoke voice dialling, long-press the right softkey, wait until the beep and the display shows "speak now". It's best to wait a second or two even after that. Then say the name of the contact.
If the phone gets a match, it will dial. Otherwise it will show the best match and list other options on the left softkey (Next).
    Hope this helps.
I tried the above, but when he talks back he still sounds like a beaten up person.
And worse, whatever i tell him, he keeps coming up with the wrong things. I have a feeling this whole dialing thing is based on US english and cannot handle any other languages (i tried english pronounciation and that fixed a few numbers, but 80% still doesn't work)
How do i fix this? if it is not possible i will have to hand it back to my boss and ask him for something else as this is not usable while driving.Message Edited by ajak on 12-Apr-2007 08:03 PM

  • N96 voice tags problem

    Afternoon all
Just upgraded from an N95 to an N96 and I have a problem.
With the N95, all the contacts in my list had a voice tag automatically assigned to them, so all I had to do was hit the button, wait for the bleep, and say the name. This was great for use with my parrot handsfree kit in my car.
With the N96, the contacts have not had any voice tags assigned as they should, so I can't use it to voice dial which really is annoying me as I can't voice dial from my car kit either.
Any ideas as to how I can sort this??

Just thought I would let you know you're not on your own with this problem. I can use voice dialling to dial contacts by pressing and holding the right softkey, but when I try to use my car kit, it brings up the speech recognition progress box but won't recognise anything I say. Kinda pointless having hands free dialling if it doesn't work when you need it most! ;-)

  • Some voice tags fail on e90 FW 210.34.75

    Hello, everybody.
After upgrade to FW 210.34.75 some voice tags on my address book disappeared. Some contacts can be found by voice, and some -- not anymore.
I reinstalled FW again, removed voice adapts, restored factory settings, on clean phone, without memory card, I imported address book from CSV file through PC Suite -- the same picture: I cannot voice dial the some of contacts, I dialed before.
It looks that the problem is in the FW itself.
I have 532 contacts in my address book.
When I enter new contact into NEW address book, after factory reset, the voice tags (talking face in the address form) are appearing on the contacts, but if I restore or import my address book -- the same situation. About the half of addresses lost voice tags (the talking faces) and are not recognized by VD.
Maybe, there are some limitations on the VD for E90?
    Could you please help me?
    Regards,
    Myk.

If you can't get the upgrade through Nokia's website, try to walk into the nearest Nokia Care Centre and insist to have this device upgraded to the latest FW version in order to use the A-GPS features. This feature for the E90 is actually shown on Nokia's website if you search for A-GPS enabled devises. It took me some 15 minutes to convince the technical staff at Nokia Care Centre since they did not know their own website and products availability. It took them one phone call with Nokia's head office in Australia and subsequently another ten minutes to upgrade my phone. That means, the upgrade was available but not made accessible for the general public. Try your luck, this upgrade will greatly improve the GPS fix which took a couple of minutes in the past. Now I get a fix within seconds. I cannot, however, comment about any other improvements or bugs since I did not experience any so far.

  • How to turn off Voice tags in Nokia 5310 when conn...

Now i've got my new Nokia 5310 xpress music,
Does anyone know how to turn off the voice tags when connected to a bluetooth headset?
I've problem when put bluetooth in my pocket and not intend to push the button so the phone will dial to anyone that I won't to talk to.

lock the keypad on the phone and make sure automatic lock of the keypad is working, this should do the trick, pressing and holding the button on the bluetooth headset will prompt for the voice tag of course

  • Help with voice tags

wrong forum i know but this is the most aprpiate one i could find
ive set up some voice tags but they dont work do i need to press a button or something

    Here's what it says:
Making a call by using a voice tag
If the phone has an application using the GPRS connection sending or receiving data, first end the
application to make a call by using voice dialling.
    1. In standby mode, press and hold the volume down key. A short tone is heard and Speak now is
    displayed.
    2. Say the voice tag clearly. The phone plays the recognised voice tag and then dials the phone
number of the voice tag after 1.5 seconds.
All those who believe in psychokinesis raise my hand.

  • How do you add a voice tag to a contact

how do you add a voice tag to a contact i phone5

You don't need to add any sort of tags to call by voice. It's built into the system. Go to Settings>General>Siri and make sure it's set to On.
To use Siri, press and hold the Home button. When the microphone icon pops up and there is a beep, say, "Call <name from your contacts>"
Consult the manual for more information on Siri.

  • No voice tags after sync with PC Suite to N70

    Hi,
I am having a problem with losing voice tags on my N70, after reading many postings and trying various solutions such as setting default number and nicknames, reset phone etc etc, I managed to get voice tags (pacman next to number) working by using format *#7370# but when I then sync using Nokia PC suite 6.70.22 via Bluetooth from Outlook 2003 on XP pro (SP1) corp build, all contacts added during and post sync do not have a voice tag generated?
I do not think this is a hardware issue as all connections work fine, also do not think this is an issue with PC Suite as it resides on computer, I have also tried this on a machine with all the latest updates installed running Media Centre 2005 and Nokia PC suite 6.70.22, I get exactly the same result when syncing via Bluetooth or USB!!
For obvious reasons I would like to be able to sync contacts and calendar and be able to keep the use of voice tags!!
Is this a known bug and will later firmware resolve, is anyone else experiencing same or resolved this issue.
By the way am running firmware *#0000#
    v 2.0539.1.2 19-10-05 RM-84
    Cheers, Baldrig

Ok, I am assuming that either pc suite is so buggy that no one has had a chance to emulate this or that no one has this issue other than me and everyone is synchronising their outlook contacts with their N70 and are still able to us voice Tags?
If anyone is experiencing this issue can they please let me know I am not the only person having this problem or preferably if anyone knows a fix please let me know so I can either ignore and forget ever using voice tags or allow me to use what would be a really useful feature?
I am beginning to think this may be like a Microsoft built in feature
    Cheers, B

  • How I got Voice Tags to work on my E65

If contact has a single telephone number the voice tag is automatically created for that number.
If the contact has multiple telephone numbers a voice tag is created but not easy to find!!
If you open a contact and scroll down the details on the right hand side of one of the telephone numbers is what looks like a “Pac-Mac”. With this number highlight press the “option” key and “Play voice tag” will be available. “Play voice tag” isn't avalible unless the number with the “pac-man” is selected.
I've noticed that I update or edit a contact the “Play voice tag” disappears. To get it to re-appear I go out of the address book and back in, seems to work.

Have you downloaded the App?  If so, are you have issues with it?

If you feel that this is a major issue then reinstall firmware. But before that hard reset your phone by
    1. Switch off the phone.
    2. Hold down the following three buttons: Green (the call answer button), * button, and '3' button.( Just in case of N78 it will be the multimedia key the small silver key on right side & for Nokia 5800XM - use the following buttons to do a hard reset, GREEN/RED/CAMERA keys pressed all at once on power up. this will only work on 5800's that have firmware version 20... and up).
    3. While holding these buttons, hold the power button to switch on the phone.
    4. Release the buttons when the phone shows the nokia hands logo or shows other signs of life like the language selection screen.
But keep a backup as you may lose your data. I dont know whether this trick actually works on N70.
