6310 ink cartridge

I have a 6310 bought new in March 2007.  It has worked well until recently.  Without any previous difficulty or warning the display indicated the left ink cartridge required replacing even though ink supply was about half full.  I replaced the cartridge and the display continued to indicate the left cartridge required replacement.  I called HP tech support.  Subsequent to some discussion the tech rep offered the only solution he thought available was to purchase a replacement 6310 from HP for $97.00.  His belief was that the "chip" was no good.  This is very disappointing.  Anyone have any other solution to this problem.  I have found I can print in black only although the scan, copy, and fax functions are inoperative.  Anyone want a tri-color cartridge that apparently I cannot use?

Must be something in the air -- I just encountered the exact same problem aboiut an hour ago.  I called tech support, they went through a few things with me, told me to get another color cartridge and try that.  The tech promised me that if it still doesn't work, they'll send me a new printer.  I was surprised considering that I think the printer is more than a year old and thus out of warranty.  Now I gotta run out and plunk down money for a color cartridge, which will probably turn out to be a waste of time.
What bugs me is that when the color  feature isn't working for some reason, the whole printer is disabled and one can't even work in black-and-white. Similarly, if your color cartridge is empty or if you simply remove it, you can't print in B&W.  What's up with that?

I own an inkjet 6310 all in one printer and i needed to replace my ink cartridges.  i currently have a black 337 and a color 343 in the printer.  the replacement cartridges per hp is now black 95 and color 98.  when i intall the new ones, i get an error message that the 95/98 cartridges are not the correct cartridge.  i can't find 337/343 anywhere.  i even bought another set of 95/98 to see if it was a cartridge problem and it didn't work.  Any ideas?
I bought the printer about 3-4 years ago.

Did you buy the printer in one country and then move to another?  If so you will need to Contact HP to request a "Regionalization Reset". There should not be any charge for this, it is covered as part of the cartridge warranty. You will need to have access to your computer and printer while on the line with HP. You will also need to have a set of cartridges for the new region, once the reset is complete cartridges from the original region will no longer work.  HP's web page on the subject is here.

  • HP Deskjet 1510 Tri-color Ink Cartridge Error

I just bought a HP Deskjet 1510 back in August and I loaded the HP original ink cartridges that come with the purchase. For the first 5 print jobs it was working well, but somehow after a while my laptop and the printer itself just kept warning that there's low ink level in the cartridges (especially the tri-color one). I haven't even got to use the tri-color cartridge much as I've been printing in grayscale ever since I've used this printer.
I've tried taking the cartridge out and putting it back in again; sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. I thought it might be a contact issue so I cleaned those parts too but it didn't change anything.
It's getting extremely frustrating as I'll have to do this for god knows how many times for every single page I print or copy. This happens to the black cartridge too but 90% of the time it's the tri-color cartridge.
    Please help.
    Thanks.

I hope you had a great holiday!
I understand from reading your post that you are running into cartridge errors.  I'd like to help!
I would first suggest removing the ink cartridges, and performing a power reset.  Disconnect the power cord from the printer and the power outlet, then wait 60 seconds. After 60 seconds, plug the printer back in. Ensure you plug the printer directly to a wall outlet. Make sure to bypass any sort of surge protector or power bar.
I would also recommend running through the steps listed in the document below:

  • New Ink Cartridge but can not print out/copy any document.

I have HP Printer Deskjet 1050. I've just bought 1 x Original HP Ink Cartridge Colour Black No.61 that can be used as well for my HP Deskjet 1050 (because I could't get No.802 Black Cartridge). I have pulled out the empty one and pushed the new one in until I heard snap sound (I've followed as what is in the instruction poster). Before my old Ink was empty, I was able to print either black or colour. Now, after I've got new one pushed in, I couldn't print nothing, even the alignment page doesn't automatically print out after all cartridges are pushed in and cartridge door was closed. My Black Ink warning light is blinking all the time. I can scan to my computer/laptop but can not print it out or make copy from the printer. This printer is not compatible for my laptop with OS Windows 8.1 (64-bit), but I was able to use my printer for printing thru my laptop by using HP AiO Printer Remote. Please help?

this is just a printer problem as the printer was working fine before I changed the ink.  My Dell inspiron 580  wi PC is working fine and I have been printing direct from my computer to printer every day until my goof up...... intel core (TM) i5 CPU @3.20 GHz 64 bit  8.00 GB RAM

Hi - A couple of things to try:
    - Unplug the power from the back of the printer.
    - Open the top cover, and slide the carriage to the center.
    - Remove the cartridge and try reinstalling.  Make sure the ink cartridge snaps in and is firmly held by the carriage.
    - Plug the power cord back into the printer and power it on.
If that doesn't work, try repeating the steps above, but this time, remove the USB cable, which will completely isolate the printer and narrow down the issue.
    Hope that helps.

  • Can different contacts on the same brand of ink cartridge cause printer to print blank pages?

I have a  HP  office jet 6500 printer -  E709n model.   My operating system is Windows 7.  The printer requires one black cartridge and three different colored cartridges.  My black ran out (steaking, blank spots, etc.); the color cartridges were low, but not out.  I replaced the black cartridge with a new one.  When I did, the printer would not print at all - just blank sheets came out. After trying a few different things, I decided to put the old one back in.  I changed the document I was writing to green and it printed.  I thought this was odd so I decided to check the contacts.  The contacts or microchip on the old cartridge  looked completely different than on the new one.  So I decided to call hp tech service to see if they had changed the contact (microchip) design on their 920 ink cartridges and if that would make a difference.  An hour later after going through their usual steps - cleaning printouts and checking alignment which failed - they decided to send me another black ink cartridge.  Since I was talking to guys in India with heavy accents, it made it quite difficult.  They never answered my question about whether different contacts or microchips on the cartridges would make a difference.  It was chalked up as a faulty cartridge.   I returned it to Staples and purchased a new one.  I opened a new black cartridge, but its contacts looked just like the faulty one I threw away.  I decided to show it to a tech person there.  Two techs there had not seen anything like it.  They opened another black one which had the same style contacts so we concluded that hp had changed their contacts on their cartridges and maybe getting them all to match would work.  I picked up three color cartridges as well, but only checked one.  It had the new design.  When I arrived home, I quickly opened all cartridges and inserted them into the printer.  It still didn't print. So I checked all cartridges.  All had the same style connection or microchip except the yellow ink cartridge.  I couldn't believe it.  So do I take the yellow one back and try to open a package to find a matching connection or do the connection even matter.  The display is registering all cartridges as full, but I am still unable to print anything but blank paper.  I printed an alignment page and only color gets printed, no blank.  So please let me know if the difference in connectors makes any difference in whether things print.

There have been some changes in the contacts on the supplies, but this should not cause any issues in printing.
I would suggest you try the troubleshooting steps in this document.  If that does not resolve the issue then the post here may help.

  • Defective ink cartridge?

I have a F380 all-in-one. I've had it a while and everything has been fine, but a few days ago, I tried to print a page and it cut off a rectangular portion of the top left of the page. The rest printed fine. Since then, I can't print anything. Once in a while, like if I turn it on, it just prints out a blank page, and I'm not trying to print. I can't print a test page or do any aligning of the cartridges, nothing happens when I do those from hp solution center. If I try to print a test page by holding cancel and hitting scan/copy, nothing happens if I hit the black button, and when I hit the color button, the on/off button just blinks a few times. I can't scan as it says it's already in use for something else. There is no printer on my taskbar saying I'm trying to print anything either. When on, the on/off button is on, the (!) section has a red light blinking on the black ink cartridge, there's an E on the page portion, and the plain paper type button is on. If I try to check ink levels, it says, "Estimated ink level information is not available for introductory print cartridges", which these are not. I've taken out the cartridges and looked at them and can't see anything obviously wrong. I took them out individually and closed the door. When I took out the color cartridge and closed it, the cartridge was moving around for a good 30 to 60 seconds. Very little happened when I took out the black one and closed it.
So is the cartridge defective? If so, can I get a refund for it? I suppose from HP? It was one of theirs, and not a refill or anything. I've hardly used this one. Thanks a lot.

I have two F380 printers that have the same problem and nothing works, I've tried EVERYTHING humanly possible except taking the printer to a technician. I've already wasted money buying new HP printer cartridges and that didn't fix the problem either.  There are lots of people with the same problem and all we want is an answer from HP on how to fix the problem THAT ACTUALLY WORKS.  I don't want to waste any more money, therefore I guess I will have to toss both of these and buy a printer from a different manufacturer that actually works.  Good luck to everyone.

  • Can I use the black ink cartridge only, & quit replacing the color cartridge when it's empty?

I have an HP Officejet 6210 all in one printer that takes color ink (#95) and black ink (#94).   I only want to print in black and white.   The color cartridges are more expensive and since I don't want to use them, I don't want to replace it.  Can I have the printer bypass the color cartridge (and the notifications that come with an emply cartridge) so it will allow me to use the black cartridge (#94) only and let the #95 sit there empty?  (ie it tries to print from there and I get the blank sheets...want to default it to the black ink cartridge 100% of time.)  I waste too much money on ink and wish to use the cheaper cartridge (#94) always.

Can't agree more. HP's strategy of getting more sells of its cartrige is notorious. It really drives consumers away. I am ditching my HP printer and getting a Brother instead.

  • How can I print using only the black ink cartridge?

I have a officejet 4620 that I need to know how to set up to have the option of using the black ink cartridge only. I rarely ever use color ink and I dont want $30 worth of color ink to dwindle away while printing pages that do not need any sort of quality printing. How can I change this setting? I have a Mac and there are hardly any options when trying to print anything.
    Thanks!

  • How can I get my HP DeskJet 6540 to recognize the new ink cartridges I installed?

Hi everyone. I have an HP DeskJet 6540 printer and I replaced the ink cartridges. After I replaced the cartridges, I aligned them and then did a test print. I noticed that the blank ink didn't print. I opened system preferences, and then I opened the printer utility. It says, "Device Status : Pen Failure." Current Supplies Levels says, "The current levels for the selected printer are shown below...Cartridge on the left (tri-color 97) is unknown and the the cartridge on the right (black 96) is missing." Oh, I forgot to mention that the print cartridge light on the left side is flashing. I went to the HP support website and it says that the problem could be an incorrect print cartridge, incompatible print cartridge, or problem with the (left/right) print cartridge.  The solution they offered was to remove, inspect and reseat the problem cartidge. It also said to clean the problem cartridge contacts. I did that and it still gives me the same results. I even reset the printer but still got the same results...
So the next thing I try is the OTHER cartridges listed as compatible with my printer which is 94 (black) and 95 (tri-color). I bought the new cartridges, placed them in the printer and I still got the same message from the print utility. I took the latter cartridges back and got a refund and explained that none of the compatible cartridges are working with my printer. I kept the 96 and 97 cartridges in the printer and the light on the left continues to flash so now I'm here asking if anyone knows how I can get my printer to recognize the new ink cartridges I installed?  Are there any other solutions that I have besides throwing the printer out of the window? :-)
    Thanks everyone ;-)

With all that you have done it does sound like the printer has a fault. If you haven't tried turning off the printer for several minutes, then this would be worth trying (maybe you have done this when you say reset the printer?).
If the cartridge light on the printer flashes when you turn the printer back on then it sounds like a hardware fault - not the driver or the operating system. And this is not usually something a user can resolve so it would need repair. And for the cost of a new printer, why would you bother.
If you plan of sticking with HP and getting another model that can use the 96 & 97 cartridges (let's face it, they often cost more than the new printer), then take the two existing cartridges to the store and see if they will let you check they are okay. No point throwing them out also if they still have a fair bit of ink still in them.

  • I can not print black and white only documents and I have a full black ink cartridge

I have been an loyal HP customer since the orginal laserjet in the early 90s and then many inkjets from HP after that.
I bought an HP 6600 All in one for the house and have only ever printed in black and white.
For some reason one of the color ink carts is empty after a few months of black and white only printing.   No problem - I only print in black and white - or so I thought.
Nothing I have been able to do (aside from buying a color cart I don't need) is able to tell the printer to not worry about color and only use the black and white cart.  Past inkjets from HP didn't have a problem with this.
Please tell me HP didn't do this on purpose and is going to trying and justify the need for me to buy any color carts if I never print in color.  HP - if you did and you are going to try and tell me you neeeded to do this for any reason then someone please sign me up for the class action lawsuit if you are an attorney looking for plaintiffs.
However, I am sure I am overlooking some simple setting on the 6600 to move past this annoyance.
    Thanks!

    Hi Atlanta90210,
We appreciate your brand loyalty, and I'm very sorry for the frustration this has caused.
There is a lot of good information in Cannot Print When One of the HP Ink Cartridges is Empty. It explains how your printer works and how it is designed. Another good resource is posted here.
In the first link I mentioned, there are steps to print with black ink only. I have a similar printer to this at home (with the same print mech), and I have found that the steps to print with black ink only have saved me lots of ink.
There needs to be ink in all the cartridges for this printer to continue printing (after the cartridge's reserve mode is depleted). Once you have replaced the empty cartridges, you can change the print settings to print with only black ink so the printer doesn't use color ink. Until then, there is not a way to bypass this.
I know this is not the answer you were hoping to receive, but I do hope it was helpful.
I'd be happy to help you with any other questions or concerns.
