64-bit itunes for Windows tries to install in Programs(x86)

If the download marked as iTunes for Windowss (64-bit) is, indeed, the the 64-bit version, why does it try to install in Program Files(x86) instead of Program Files, like EVERY OTHER 64-BIT INSTALLATION ON THE PLANET?

It is a 64-bit installer for mostly 32-bit components.

  • Itunes for windows will not install

SInce Christmas, I have tried installing iTunes for my Ipod shuffle. I have NIS and I've followed some instructions I found on a thread to add itunes and ipod into my programs and "permit all"- that usually freezes the computer. I wind up sending error reports to windows and cold booting the computor. I think I successfully installed both itunes and ipod into My Computer/Downloads. However- - neither via shortcut on my desktop or thru programs can I access itunes. The icon is there, and nothing happens. I am pretty sure it has to do wit NIS. In one instance I did try disabling the security and firewall features- but a lot of crap got onto my desktop. help!

    Kellie,
remind me, did you try an EWIDO scan? Sounds like a malware problem to me. Go download EWIDO, its free and the only program that I know of that is catching the particular variant of malware that is blocking iTunes. Its a nasty bug that started showing up in October or so.
    The website is www.ewido.net/en/
Use that scan about twice a week. It blows Mcafee and Norton out of the water.
    Good Luck.
PS I recommend picking up LsvaSoft's AdAware SE, its free and available for free downloads on their website. It scans and removes spyware. Use that twice a week as well to maintain a healthy PC.

  • Recently installed 64 bit iTunes for Windows 7 after system restore. Now I can't sync my Ipod Touch because "library was created by newer version of iTunes." I've gone to iTunes site and got "latest" version with no luck. How can I find very latest vers?

Well, most of details above. But haven done clean (exact order recommended by Apple) uninstall / reinstall. I might have to recreate entire library? Thanks

  • The latest itunes for windows will not install

I have an old PC running windows and I want to transfer my itunes songs to my ipad. I can't do this until I update iTunes but trying to update does nothing, either from iTunes or from the web page. I've tried rebooting the PC, still doesn't work. How do I get iTunes to update? Or, how do I transfer to the iPad without updating? The version of iTunes I have is older than 10.5, not sure where to find version #. Thanks!

Hi b noir, thanks for offering to help. i documented the whole process:
Itunes transfer from pc to ipad.
    1. Connect ipad to PC
    2. Pc recognizes ipad as a camera, gives me list of programs to launch, not sure if this has any relevance, no itunes on list, instead its kodak easyshare, ms doc wizard, ms camera sharing, ms word,mp navagator ex, omnipage, photoshop - I ignore this screen
    3. Launch itunes, get screen, "ipad requires v 10.5 or later' go to itunes.com. I click ok
    4. I get screen, still in itunes, "a new version (10.7) is available." I click download.
    5. That screen goes away but nothing happens. No download starts.
    6. Checked itunes folder on my hard drive, no sign that anything new has downloaded
    7. Launch safari, go to itunes.com, hit download button
    8. Nothing seems to be happening.
    9. I get "thank you for downloading itunes" screen.
    10. Still nothing new in itunes folder.
    11. Get AVG screen telling me to restart my pc to finish download process.
    12. During shutdown, I get screen,"the instruction at 0x100066dd referenced memory at 0x100066dd. The instruction could not be read." Gave me options to terminate program or debug. I did not choose either. No idea if this is relevant.
    13. PC rebooted anyway.
    14. Launched itunes
    15. Got same message as before - "ipad requires v 10.5 or later' go to itunes.com. I click ok
    16. Even though ipad is plugged in all this time, the screen that thinks the ipad is a camera does not come up this time.
    17. There is nothing to the left of the itunes interface that lists devices - this is where ipad would appear, right?
    18. Ipad appears on My Computer control panel
    19. My version of itunes is 10.3.1.55
    20. In itunes, i go to Help - Run Diagnostics - run all but Cd/Dvdtest
    21. Secure Link to Itunes store failed, everything before that is ok. I click Help. nothing happens. Store appears in itunes so I don't see why this would fail.
    22. Since help doesn't work, I move on in test. Two more fail screens: itunes helper not running, no ipad found. help brings up appropriate pages for both. Both recommend removing and reinstalling itunes.
    23. Device sync also fails.
If it would be quickest to delete and reinstall itunes, I am willing to do that. My music would not be deleted correct? What about playlists (not as important to me).
I also have all my music backed up to CD. It would be tedious to copy that all to ipad, but if there is a way to do it and no other option, I could do that.

  • HT1349 Trying to install latest iTunes for Windows 7 64-bit. Keep getting this error message "Service 'Apple Mobile Device' (Apple Mobile Device) failed to start. Verify that you have sufficient privileges to start system services."

Initially iTunes would not run although it had been running quite well up until now. Suddenly received this error on PC start-up "The program can't start because MSVC80.dll is missing from your computer. Try reinstalling the program to fix this problem." Research on Net pointed me to iTunes as the issue. Tried to start iTunes and received that message again. Tried installing latest version of 64-bit iTunes and received the subject message part way through the install: Trying to install latest iTunes for Windows 7 64-bit. Keep getting this error message "Service 'Apple Mobile Device' (Apple Mobile Device) failed to start. Verify that you have sufficient privileges to start system services."
iTunes has been running great on this PC for years. What's up?

    Hi Tamekia,
I am sorry to hear nothing has worked yet. I have looked up some additional information and possible solutions. Follow the steps in this document to perform a level-three uninstall, register the Windows Installer Service, and then reinstall the HP software. An uninstall and reinstall of the software deletes and overwrites any of the files that might cause the error and resets the Windows Installer. HP recommends that you download the latest software from the HP Web site to remove any files that might be causing this error.
Level-three uninstall, and register the Windows Installer Service
Note: The title of this document is not specific to the issue you are experiencing or the operating system you have, but the 3 steps and instructions are what I suggest we do to resolve the issue you are experiencing.
    Hope this helps.

Hello, I was trying to upgrade my iTunes for windows 7 PC, but because of invalid signature error I removed iTunes as well as all apple related applications. While reinstalling it , When I click link to install iTunes it immediately says '' thank you for downloading iTunes'' but I don't find it in my system.
I have tried all suggested option to solve it but all in vain. Please help me to get rid of this problem

For general advice see Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates.
The steps in the second box are a guide to removing everything related to iTunes and then rebuilding it which is often a good starting point unless the symptoms indicate a more specific approach. Review the other boxes and the list of support documents further down the page in case one of them applies.
The further information area has direct links to the current and recent builds in case you have problems downloading, need to revert to an older version or want to try the iTunes for Windows (64-bit - for older video cards) release as a workaround for installation or performance issues, or compatibility with QuickTime or third party software.
Your library should be unaffected by these steps but there are also links to backup and recovery advice should it be needed.

My Itunes will not launch after downloading and I have tried all the troubleshooting for itunes for Windows 7 64-bit. Do I need to system reboot my computer than try to download it again?

I'm having a very similar issue, paired with iTunes not being able to get online.
iTunes shows up in processes and then hangs at 17,000 K or so -- sometimes it will start up, but that (if it occurs) is a delay of literal hours.
Pretty meticulously went through all the 'cannot connect' trouble shooting, and have uninstalled, restarted, and then reinstalled every piece of apple software; issue is just as firm. Starting in safe mode or admin mode don't fix it; signing in as a different user doesn't fix it.

  • Can someone help me with installing the latest version of iTunes for Windows 7 64 bit Home Premium?

Latest version of iTunes for Windows 7 64 bit Home Premium downloads just fine.  But, fails to install.
"Unblocked and gave all permissions."  Still, no go.
I see by reading the other posts on this forum that I am not alone.  Any help?
    Frustrated!

Ok...This was very odd.  I left the installation program, in what I considered a frozen state on screen.  After about 30 mins, to my surprise, It installed!  I'm not computer literate, so, I don't know what to say.  But, to just WAIT for it to respond!  Good Luck!

  • Installing itunes for windows 8.1 64 bit

I just updated my old computeer to a new one with widows 8.1 64 bit and it doesn't let me install itunes on it. it tells me that "the app can not be run in this PC"
    some help please?

That version is quite old now, though its fine if you don't have a device that requires a newer version for syncing or want to use the latest features. Should you want to bring things up to date howver, and have problems updating, then for general advice see Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates.

  • Error numbers are 2502 and 2503 for installing iTunes for Windows 64 bits. How to fix?

    Hey guys,
I cannot install iTunes (latest vision) on my new laptop (Windows 64 bits), and it says that the error numbers are 2502 and 2503...
Can someone tell me how to fix this?
    Thank you!

Check your system date & time is correct.
Run the System File Checker: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929833
If you still have problems try a creating a new user account with administrator rights, log into it, and attempt the install from there.

  • I have windows 8, 64 bit.  I am trying to install ITunes 64 bit installer, but keep getting an error message that says a .DLL file is missing.  How can I fix this?

After installing, whenever i try to open the application, it keeps popping up that some or the other .dll file is missing.
When I install that particular .dll file and then again try to re open, it says that someother file is missing. It keeps
    coming all the time.
