64-bit iTunes upgrades
I have been using iTunes 64-bit installer successfully since I first installed iTunes a year ago. However, since then I have been using the Apple Software Update program to install subsequent iTunes upgrade versions. Does this automatically detect my 64-bit iTunes install and download the correct 64-bit version of iTunes or do I need to manually select the 64-bit iTunes installer every time a new version of iTunes is released?
Thanks!
The fix listed elsewhere on this community works - create another account - download itunes in that account and it works. Just have to navigate to the media folder so your music goes in.
Hope this helps

Just upgraded to the new version for Windows & 64 bit.
Now I cannot access the iTunes store.
Any advice?
[email protected]Close your iTunes,
Go to command Prompt -
(Win 7/Vista) - START/ALL PROGRAMS/ACCESSORIES, right mouse click "Command Prompt", choose "Run as Administrator".
(Win XP SP2 & above) - START/ALL PROGRAMS/ACCESSORIES/Command Prompt
In the "Command Prompt" screen, type in
netsh winsock reset
Hit "ENTER" key
Restart your computer.
If you do get a prompt after restart windows to remap LSP, just click NO.
Now launch your iTunes, and see if it is working now.
If you are still having these type of problems after trying the winsock reset, refer to this article to identify which software in your system is inserting LSP:

Ipod Touch and Windows 7 64 Bit - Itunes not recognizing
I have Windows 7 64 bit operating system. I have been struggling with getting my Itunes and Ipod touch to work together - somewhere an update or upgrade screwed things up.
Right now, I have Itunes 10 64 bit installed on my computer. When I plug in the Ipod touch to sync, I get a message in Itunes telling me that this Ipod requires the 64 bit Itunes and I need to remove and reinstall the 64 bit version of Itunes.
Needless to say, I've removed and reinstalled the 64 bit version 3 times. Still won't recognize my Ipod Touch.
HELP!
HP DesktopHey!!
Well ... After about 3 months of searching, going to the apple Genius bar... (seriously they wanted me to delete my stuff... I couldn't live without my books I downloaded from drinkmalk.com which is now defunct)
So.. I am running a Dell Studio 1557 Windows 7 (no SP installed yet), 64 Bit and I own a 3rd Generation Ipod Touch, 32 Gig and had many of the same problems. In my case... I was able to update software, but I couldn't sync music onto my ipod or transfer purchases I would get: Internal Device error, operation failed... etc etc.. .every sync error you can think of...
MAGIC FIX (For me.. and other users)
1. There is a known bug that says its a chipset issue (Just google Ipod sync chipset issues and realize you aren't alone)... Most likely you don't Have a PCI card slot to put a new usb thing on... so.. that is a no go...
2. SOLUTION (that worked for me) - UPDATE THE BIOS on your PC. If you go to your computer manufacturer's driver site... you can search for these updates. Chances are... you have the version that was installed on your computer that is out of date (its not one of those things that automatically updates). For the most part, you never really need to update it since it doesn't affect regular functioning... most people update it on the advice of a technician. Either way, I went to the Dell support site, looked up my laptop and found the install file.
WARNING BACK UP YOUR HARD DRIVE AHEAD OF TIME IF YOU DECIDE TO DO THIS!! ALSO, RESEARCH HOW TO MAKE A BIOS RECOVERY DISK IN THE CASE IT CRASHES.. BETTER YET, CONSULT YOUR LOCAL GEEK FOR SUPERVISION, IF FOR ANY REASON THE BIOS UPDATE FAILS AND IT DOES HAPPEN SINCE WE KNOW PC's are WONKY... YOU MAY RISK BRICKING YOUR COMPUTER... Just google "Bios Update Failure" to see the horror stories..
However.. that said and done.. I updated it ... made the mistakes above and was able to get my computer back by leaving the battery out for an hour, pressing the power button for 30 seconds and restarting ... after the failure scare... saved me 200 bucks from dell customer service
Good News: With the updated bios... SYNC WORKS PERFECTLY!! I can put music on, transfer stuff out... no errors!! =) JOY! -
Windows 7 Pro (64-bit), iTunes 10 and AppleTV (160Gb)
I'm trying to move my iTunes collection to a PC running windows 7 pro (64bit) - a machine I'm happier to leave on 24/7 than my iMac.
I've a fresh install of windows and installed the latest 64-bit iTunes. However, the PC doesn't display the AppleTV under the devices options in the iTunes UI.
My iMac, connected alongside reports that it is there which suggests that the problem is not in my router etc. but just with the Windows PC config.
I would have thought that the likely candidates are Bonjour setup (which is just the default install from iTunes) or the OS firewall config.
Any ideas why this doesn't "just work" by default? Am I expected to manually revise the bonjour TCP/UDP setting in Windows personal firewall etc? Should I be re-installing Bonjour?
I've looked on the forum and there doesnt seem to be a definitive answer. Given I'm using a fresh install, I would have expected this to be more straight forward.
thanks
TimI can but fonts, bullets, etc will not properly embed unless I save my file as a postscript file and run Distiller. Distiller then allows me a pdf that I can send to the commercial printer. However, Distiller will not run if I use the Adobe PDF printer. Adobe no longer supports MS Publisher but there is a work around by saving publisher as a postscript file, then use Distiller I can send the newspaper to a commercial printer. My concern is that if I upgrade to Adobe XI standard or pro will I be able to use this work around? This has taken me hours to figure out and now that I have the program working with Acrobat 9 standard and MS Publisher 2007 I would hate to have to spend hours figuring this out again. Best question, I guess, would be how long Adobe will support Acrobat .
Thank you very much. -
I got 64 bit iTunes for 64 bit Windows 8
I got 64 bit iTunes for 64 bit Windows 8 and I can't download my purchases on iTunes in the cloud and I had just recently restore my Windows 8 64 bit back to original settings and upgraded from Windows 8 to Windows 8.1 and I was thinking there has to be a patch or something to get my 64 bit iTunes to work.

Windows 7, 64 bits, iTunes 10.7, not run
windows 7, 64 bits, iTunes 10.7, not run
I upgrade iTunes to 10.7 and since then, iTunes not run
I try several times, unistall and install
I downgrade to iTunes 10.6 but still not runningMany thanks.
Can you check something for me please?
Restart your PC. after the PC restarts, bring up your Task manager, and go to the "Processes" tab. Click "Image name" to sort the processes alphabetically.
Now try to launch iTunes.
Does an itunes.exe process appear? If so, does it vanish after a second or so, or does it persist in the Processes tab (even though iTunes itself never shows up)? -
ITunes search function suddenly won't work, pending iTunes upgrade.
I have an old (2002) 16-bit PC, which won't support an iTunes upgrade. I've tried to upgrade (from 7.1) before, but it crashed the machine (and I lost ALL my music), so I've stayed with 7.1 and until now everything -- including the iTunes store and the search function -- has worked just fine. But suddenly, when I go to the iTunes store to buy new music, it presents an "Upgrade to iTunes 10" screen, and the search function won't work at all. I'm locked out until I upgrade, but I can't upgrade. Help?
Your QT may work fine but is it the most current v7.1.3? This is not to say that this will resolve your problem. You might try to d/l the 10.4.6 combo update and reinstall the upgrade to the system. That might resolve the problem.
I would wait until the new year and then upgrade to iLife07. No sense in buying 06 if 07 is around the corner.
You can downgrade to an earlier version of an app. To downgrade iTunes you would need to remove the receipt from HD>Library>Receipts>iTunesX.pkg. You will also need the .dmg of the version you want to reinstall. Old iTune versions are avalable at http://www.oldapps.com/downloadiTunesmac.php
You can get old iPhoto at http://www.oldapps.com/iPhoto.php - instructions here http://www.oldapps.com/forum/showthread.php?p=545
To downgrade your OS you will need to reload the original OS from the system disks that you have then upgrade to the level that you want.
As always b/u before proceeding.

Baffled: Win7 64bit, iTunes 9.0.2 64 bit, iTunes won't display
This is a less than 2 week old install of Windows 7 64 bit (so it's not had a chance to collect much cruft yet), running Microsoft Essentials for security. Got a new iPod Touch 8 gb for Christmas, so it's off to do the iTunes thing for the first time. 64 bit iTunes downloaded and installed flawlessly - but iTunes will not come up. I can see it and iTuneshelper running in processes (they show as 32 bit apps?), and the iPod itself is recognized when I plug it in - but no application window ever comes up. I've deinstalled and reinstalled, even followed all the steps in the KB for complete deinstallation and reinstallation, rebooted with everything except iTunes/Quicktime enabled, tried a second windows account, etc., etc. No luck. No errors in the Windows app event log of any kind. Any ideas anyone on what the problem could be?
Nope, this copy of Windows 7 was installed from scratch on a freshly formatted disk but three weeks ago and has never seen Norton or McAfee. It does have MS Security Essentials on it. Oddly enough, the XP that is able to run iTunes is extremely old (at least two motherboard upgrades ago, in fact - almost 9 years) and has seen Norton and McAfee installed/deinstalled thru the years, getting whatever product was free that year when I bought TurboTax , and is currently running McAfee.
I whacked at the problem again over the weekend, this time disabling absolutely everything at startup/login, including the Creative XFi helper apps, MS Essentials, and the ATI video helper apps - only MS standard startup processes - yeah, still no help.
At next reboot I started iTunes and walked away. Some indeterminate time later (at least an hour), iTunes finally came up. That seems to be the behavior now (and may always have been, but I have little patience for software too stupid to at least have an error log) - launch it and it finally appears a long, long time later.
Makes it pretty much useless. Good thing the wife loves her new iPod Touch and it can download wirelessly from the store, otherwise I wouldn't be working this hard . -
Recently the iTunes upgraded itself, which took away one feature I liked, but that's another rant. The question I have here is when you download podcasts you can add them to your playlists, however over time when you download new podcasts it doesn't automatically add to those playlists. Is there a way to do that?
In the playlist I can sort it alphabetically, but I can't
sort it by release date if I want unless I delete the playlist and re-add. Is there an easier way?
Thanx.
me.You can make a smart playlist, that will update
itself.
Ok, how?
You can sort an existing playlist by clicking on the
column heading. For example clicking on the words
"Release Date". Click on "Name" changes the sort to
name. Some columns when you click on them will sort
in different ways. For example Album, when clicked
on can become "Album by Artist".
Right, the playlists can be sorted by the following:
Time
Last Played
Artist
You then right-click and bring up the following:
Album
Album Artist
Beats Per Minute
Bit Rate
Category
Comment
Composer
Date Added
Date Modified
Description
Disc Number
Epidose ID
Equilizer
Genre
Grouping
Kind
Last Skipped
My Rating
Play Count
Sample Rate
Season
Show
Size
Skip Count
Track Number
Year
However it doesn't have a column for "Release Date", which tends to allow it to sort by the original order it was downloaded. That's what I'm hoping for, otherwise I have to delete the Playlist name and re-add it.
If a particular column heading you want is not
visible, right click on one of the column headings
that is there, and you will get a list of possible
column headings.
Which feature are you missing?
I'm hoping for "Release Date".

ITunes upgraded without asking me.
iTunes upgraded without asking me. WhenI opened iTunes I simply got a message that the library was upgrading with no way of exiting. It didn't only upgrade the library, it upgraded iTunes from 9 to 11, and screwed the library in the process. I want to get 9 back. Is that possible?
You can restore much of the look & feel of the previous version with these shortcuts:
ALT to temporarily display the menu bar
CTRL+B to show or hide the menu bar
CTRL+S to show or hide the sidebar
CTRL+/ to show or hide the status bar (won't hide for me on Win XP)
Click the magnifying glass top right and untick Search Entire Library to restore the old search behaviour
Use View > Hide <Media Kind> in the cloud or Edit > Preferences > Store and untick Show iTunes in the cloud purchases to hide the cloud items. The second method eliminates the cloud status column (and may let iTunes start up more quickly)
If you don't like having different coloured background & text in the Album view use Edit > Preferences > General and untick Use custom colours for open albums, movies, etc.
If you still feel the need to roll back to iTunes 10.7 first download a copy of the 32 bit installer or 64 bit installer as appropriate, uninstall iTunes and supporting software, i.e. Apple Application Support & Apple Mobile Device Support. Reboot. Restore the pre-upgrade version of your library database as per the diagram below, then install iTunes 10.7.
See iTunes Folder Watch for a tool to scan the media folder and catch up with any changes made since the backup file was created.

Cannot uninstall 32 bit iTunes on Windows 7 64 Bit
Just got a new computer with Windows 7 64 bit. I transferred my programs over included the 32 bit version of iTunes. I want to install the 64 bit version, but when I run the 64 bit installer it gives me an error message that I have the 32 bit version and that I need to download the 64 bit version. I tried to uninstall iTunes from the Control Panel, but I get the same error. Can anyone help?
Scraping a 32-bit iTunes out of a 64-bit system can be tricky.
Perhaps let's first try this. Download and install the Windows Installer CleanUp utility from Microsoft:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290301
Now run the utility ("Start > All programs > Windows Install Clean Up"). In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select any iTunes entries and click "Remove".
Quit out of CleanUp, restart the PC, and try another iTunes (64-bit) install. Does it go through properly this time?
(If you get another error message on the reinstall attempt, let us know what that one says too.) -
After Itunes upgraded to latest version 11.0.2.26 Apple TV (1st gen) does not show up anywhere in Itunes
I have the same problem. It was working fine up until the last update for iTunes 11.0.2
Here's the details:
I have an Apple TV - first Gen and up until a couple of weeks ago, was regularly playing sync'd iTunes music and videos through it on a daily basis.
I see other devicess showing up in the "Devices" list in the left panel of iTunes (such as iPad, iPhone, etc.)
AppleTV used to be there consistently, then disappeared upon update to 11.0.2
Apple TV also does not show up in the devices tab under the Preferences window.
I have tried multiple suggestions on the support forum but none have worked.
Apple TV is able to access the network, is on the same network as the iMac with iTunes library connected. Both are connected to network via ethernet cable (not wifi). Both are able to access the internet (apple tv plays movie prieviews and gets updates). Using the Terminal app, I am able to ping the apple TV's IP number from the iMac and get a successful return.
Both have latest software downloads.
I have tried cold-booting the apple TV, resetting the router, and verified in the router device list that both imac and appleTV are listed as active, un-blocked connections.
I don't intend to buy an Apple TV 2nd gen or later (since I bought this one and it's not working now due to software update, what guarantee that a later model won't generate the same problem later.
One last wrinkle, I have a 2 year old and a 5 year old who are jonesing hard for their "dance party" fix.
Have you ever wronged a two year old?
It is NOT pretty.

Outlook 2013 64 Bit - iTunes 12 64 Bit - No Calendar or Contact Sync
Current System Setup
Microsoft Office 2013 Standard Edition - 64 Bit
iTunes 12.1.2.27 - 64 Bit
Windows 8.1 Professional Edition - 64 Bit
Current Issue:
Outlook Calendar and Contacts stopped syncing several weeks ago. When it stopped the computer was setup with and had been setup like this for a very long time with no issues.
Microsoft Office 2010 Standard Edition - 64 Bit
iTunes 11.x - 64 Bit
Windows 8.1 Professional Edition - 64 Bit
Went to the local Apple Store. The tech blew away iTunes completely, even taking out the library xlm, and all supporting Apple apps. Nothing worked.
Went to the Microsoft Store at the same mall right after the Apple Store. He blew away the C:\Users\XXXXXX\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\ folder and all of the subfolders. FYI...That folder was 10GB in size. Still no luck.
I updated the computer to Office 2013 Standard Edition - 64 Bit. No luck.
I read multiple articles with people having similar issues with different degrees of success. I checked everything from the PST file default, Firewall Settings, Outlook Trust Center, etc, etc.
The one thing I see missing in Outlook is the "iTunes Outlook Add-In". It is not listed in the COM-Addins section at all. I have not found any reference to how to bring back this COM-Addin to Outlook for iTunes or if it is necessary for this version of Outlook and iTunes.
Any assistance would be appreciated.Hmm, have you looked at Troubleshooting Sync Services on Windows with Microsoft Outlook 2003, Outlook 2007, or Outlook 2010 - Apple Support yet?
For general advice see Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates.
The steps in the second box are a guide to removing everything related to iTunes and then rebuilding it which is often a good starting point unless the symptoms indicate a more specific approach. Review the other boxes and the list of support documents further down the page in case one of them applies.
The further information area has direct links to the current and recent builds in case you have problems downloading, need to revert to an older version or want to try the iTunes for Windows (64-bit - for older video cards) release as a workaround for installation or performance issues, or compatibility with QuickTime or third party software.
Your library should be unaffected by these steps but there are also links to backup and recovery advice should it be needed.

I've searched the net , and I've noticed a lot of people seem to b having this same problem. I've tried everything I can think of. I'm out of options and getting rather annoyed with apple. Please help me! I think I've given all the info needed about my operating system. Windows 7, 64 bit, iTunes 10.3. I've erased everything re-installed it, no joy; removed again and downloaded QuickTime and iTunes separately, no good; I've removed and re-installed numerous different ways, numerous times and nothing works. All of the apple programs that are installed with iTunes have this same error. Ive been messing with this for over 2 weeks! Any help would be appreciated, especially if it works!!!!

After iTunes upgrade, calendar and bookmarks no longer update during sync
After completing the most recent iTunes upgrade, my phone will complete a backup and seems to go through the sync process. However, the calendar items and bookmarks will not update with any changes that were applied in Outlook or Internet Explorer. Also, previously, I would receive a "syncing calendar" message (or something similar) during the process, and that no longer occurs.
same problem here after itunes 9.1 update. seems to be a common problem:
