64-bit operating system versus 64-bit hardware?

i really don't get this 64-bit bs? Are the unibody Mbps 64-bit or not?
i thought Leopard was already 64-bit?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/64-bit
The CPU in unibody MBPs is 64-bit. Some elements of the Leopard OS take advantage of that, others do not. Really, it's the applications themselves that need to be written to take advantage of 64-bit processors - Leopard fully supports 64-bit applications.

• Operating System on MSI GT 70 0ND - Windows 8 32 bit??

Greetings!
I'm new on the forum so I hope I didn't mess with the forum section...
However as in subject I'm here seeking some information about the OS installed on the Laptop I own:
due to the hardware configuration (i7 processor and 12 Gb Ram) I assumed it should have a 64bit operating system (win8 or win7),
however I bought an MSI GT 70 0ND-444 on May 2013 and once I turned it on I read with horror that it has Windows 8 32 bit... Is it there for some unknown purpose or was it just a simple mistake? In this last case what should I do to solve this annoying problem?
I already tried to contact MSI Support, but no one answered my call :(
Thanks for your help

It should be Windows 8 64 bit.....
That's very strange. I would contact MSI Support via email.
If that doesn't work, I'd return it for a new one. I'm not sure why they would put 32-bit onto it instead of 64 bit though. That doesn't make any sense.

• [SOLVED]Can I run a 64 bit operating system?

I want to know if I can run a 64 bit operating system on my laptop. the lshw command says I have a 64 bit processor, so does that mean I can run a 64 bit O.S. because  almost everything else says 32 bit. So, does all my hardware have to be 64 bit, or is it only the processor that matters? I have looked on the internet and it always seems to relate only to the processor, so I don't know if the other stuff matters. My laptop came with 32 bit vista, if that matters. Sorry if this is a stupid question. Thanks.

• Adobe's new 64 bit multimedia operating system code named Quick Silver

As far as I know Adobe is not creating a 64 bit bit operating system but I wish they would. Or at the very least they should make a web browser called Quick Silver.  I am writng this because I seen the Mozilla Fire Fox video. I think Moziila will soon write a mobile OS and maybe even a desktop OS. They are even asking for donations. I like Fire Fox because it is free. If they charge for it I would probably just use IE. I know Adobe has the free Acrobat Reader and Flash Player why not a web borwser? I think if Adobe created an OS and gave it away free for 18-19 months it could get a large amount market share. Two years later they could start to charge $35 for the OS. I think within 3 years Adobe could get 50% of the market share for new computers if the OS was only about $35.00 for the download version ($45.00 retail version).  I don't doubt that Adobe could get a good 50% of the market share and other multimedia software and hardware vendors would also support the Adobe OS. Before I make the feature request I would like to know your thoughts.

Imagine if the car industry ran like software/hardware:
Dragging your car home with a rope (and no wheels because they were not included) to spend 8 hours removing unnecessary things like 'McAfee windshield wiper fluid made from glue', 'iMovie sticky gum' on the upholstery, and "VAIO media player lemon scent deeply rigged into the AC unit" which has pretty much nothing to do with the car... only to call the dealership and ask: "when I start my car and pres the window down button the right blinker turns on and then the vehicle stops" then be put on hold for 6 months to receive the following response "what was the number of times the blinker flashed before the car turned off? we need that number to determine what part to send"... and then when you finally DO get the wheels the dealership releases a new version of your car and the state puts a road law into effect that crashes your vehicle when it touches the road unless you pay the dealership to upgrade from car 1.5 to car 1.5.7390... which when you do the engine is not supported? So... you buy the NEW NEW car that comes with 1.6 installed in the engine and find out the wheels will not be released till next month.
dig?
~lol.
i do try remain cheerful and hopeful... but its not funny anymore.
you make a good point, but... are there some sales statistics for that?
light trolling, but seriously, does final cut have a support problem, roll out fail, error code and forum track record anything at all like this?
google ->site: forums.adobe.com = About 12,500,000 results
google ->site:forums.adobe.com = About 3,880,000 results
I think the FCP thing is a great idea. Lets check back in a year and see who bought it...
I would totally would have preferred to pay $6500.00 for a "Dedicated Adobe Tower Master Collection Desktop" @ $65 per month (hardware included)
instead of the $20,000 shelled out over the last 10 years on soft (PLUS another 2 desktops and 3 laptops and the gadgets since 2002)
not to mention the time lost. the valuable time I will want back on my deathbed. lol
Even if Adobe does not do a proprietary OS, I am thinking it still makes sense for some 3rd party to bundle, its not the same though...
Apple is on to something in my opinion.
Imagine Apple and Microsoft teaming up with Adobe to produce very specific machines?
Other industries do this, they communicate, they have standards, look at how Vehicles and Tire manufacturers collaborate...
When a new car comes out they don't just change the wheel well and expect the Tire manufacturers to follow suit later, no indeed, that kind of thing is rolled out proper and one can drive right off the lot the day its bought.

• Only Pentium 3's do not support running 64 bit operating systems Or there are others processors as well

Hi,
I was told that 'Unfortunately Pentium 3's do not support running 64 bit operating systems.'
However, I really noticed many other people say that I should run a hardware reading program, such as 'SecurAble' to be sure that my processor will be capable to run 64Bit operating systems or not.
Thus, if only Pentium 3's do not support running 64 bit operating systems, then there is no need from running such a program(screen shot below).
I really run this program using Windows 7(64Bit) with HP Laptop Core i5. And this is the reslut:
64-Bit Processing Available
This processor does offer 64-bit modes of operation. This means that this system is able to run the significantly more secure 64-bit versions of Microsoft's Windows XP and Vista operating systems.
The biggest challenge for 64-bit Windows systems is the fact that existing 32-bit device drivers cannot be used by the 64-bit operating system kernel. So if you do plan to try switching to 64-bit Windows, you should be sure to have a means for reverting
to 32-bit operation if your system's hardware turns out to be incompatible with 64-bit operation. Many people have reverted to 32-bit operation after bravely giving 64-bits a try for a short time.
A man should convert his anger and sadness into strength to continue living in this life.

Pentium 4 CPU s may or may not be 64bit capable depending on the specific model.  Intel introduced 64bit versions after a number of 32bit only models. All mainstream later Intel CPU's are 64bit capable.  The Atom processor may be 32 or 64 bit capable.
There is similar path with AMD CPU's, e.g. early Athlons were 32bit only, with later models 64 bit capable.

Hello Steve.
You may be having a problem with some extension or plugin that is hindering your Firefox's normal behavior. Have you tried disabling all add-ons (just to check), to see if Firefox goes back to normal?
If you detect a faulty add-on, you should contact its author for support. You can also search for alternatives. Site filters are relatively common in the add-ons gallery: [http://addons.mozilla.org addons.mozilla.org].

If your system does not meet the minimum system requirements you have to go back to a version that does. Try the direct download links you'll find here.. CS5 comes bundled with CS4 for AE which is the last  version to run on a 32 bit system.

Oracle WebLogic Server Downloads can be found at http://www.oracle.com/technology/software/products/ias/htdocs/wls_main.html
I believe Oracle WebLogic Server is not certified yet on Windows 7 64-bit, and this explains why you cannot find installation files to download. More details about the product certification can be found at:

Hi Aaron,
Make sure the Automatic Duplexing option is enabled:
Enter Control Panel > Devices and Printers.
Right click the printer icon, then click Printer Properties.
Click the Device Settings tab.
Set the Automatic Two-Sided Duplex Accessory as installed and click OK to save the change.

Try downloading the trial. It ought to detect that you have a 64-bit system.
You aren't using Vista, are you? PSE 13 requires at least win 7 and I think a few folks with vista have gotten a similar error message on trying to install it.

• Ram utilization with 64 bit operating system

Attached is the current configuration of my 8.1 Pro PC & I have a question regarding RAM utilization with 32 bit programs running on this PC.
It has been my understanding that the 32 bit OS (XP Pro), at best, would be able to only utilize 4GB of RAM memory.
I've recently built a PC for the specific task of running an application which is very CPU & output intensive. The application is a Windows based 32 bit application which analyzes and recovers data from NAND chips.  Input data comes from a 2.0 USB

Will the 64 bit operating system enable 32 bit applications to utilize more than 4GB of RAM memory?  Any suggestions on how to maximize the processing of 32 bit application on a 64 bit OS would be appreciated.

Hi,
As far as I know, 32-bit application running on x64 Windows system had a limit of memory address space. The max usage of RAM is 4GB. I also make a test using testlimit:
According to the screenshot, we can find that, 32-bit testlimit only can leak 4051MB memory, while 64bit testlimit can achieve to 5200 even more larger memory.

• Can you tell me if I have a 64 bit operating system which Java update do I download

Please can anyone advise me on what Java update I download for a Windows 7 64 bit operating system. My Firefox is telling me I need to urgently update my Java but when I click through to update all that is there is a page of confusing information about 32 bit and 64 bit systems. It asks which version am I using 64 bit version of Firefox or 32 bit. I didn't know there were two, I thought when referring to 64 bit and 32 bit it meant the operating system of my computer. Can anyone clear this up for me. Thank you.

Of course, if you have a x64 bit system, its better to download a x64 bit Java version. However, i think Firefox won't be able to use it since Firefox isn't x64 bit (yet). So if you need Java in your browser, you'll need Java's 32bit version.
Keep in mind i could be wrong. It's just my guessing because i tried it out some months ago. I installed 64bit Java but Firefox couldn't handle it.
However in my opinion you won't recognize a difference between 32 and 64 bit, unless you play games in Java or do other resource intensive work. 32bit will always work on a 64bit PC, but not the other way around.
