64 bit Oracle on Windows: which one to use?

On Oracle download site (http://www.oracle.com/technology/software/products/database/oracle10g/index.html), there are two entries for 64 bit Oracle software for Microsoft Windows.
1. Oracle Database 10g Release 2 (10.2.0.1.0) for Microsoft Windows (x64)
2. Oracle Database 10g Release 2 (10.2.0.1.0) for Microsoft Windows (64-bit Itanium)
What is the difference in these two products? Is it processor dependant (Xeon/Itanium)?
Please...can someone help me understand this?

There have been lots of Oracle bugs specific to Itanium platforms. I've also come across quite a few problems in OS/firmware level (some tools might not be available, fixes appear slowly if at all etc.). Things might get better if/when compilers for Itanium mature.
On top of all that I don't think the price/performance ratio of the platform is that good. You will probably get an Opteron setup for about 1/3 of the price of its Itanium equivalent. (in terms of amount of RAM and so on)
And judging from Oracles Unbreakable act it looks like they might be dropping support for Itanium altogether sooner or later. I might be wrong on this one though.

• How do I ensure mail is sent from the correct email account? I have two set up on my iPad, and it seems to choose which one to use somewhat randomly. This has happened both when using Mail and when emailing form another app.

I have two email accounts set up on my iPad -- one I use & one I monitor for a disabled person. On several occasions, mail I have composed and sent from my email account was sent showing the other account as the sender. This has happened both from within Mail and when emailing from other apps, such as Safari, Photos, etc. Any idea what is going on and how to prevent this from happening?

Are you confirming your POP account is selected as the sending email account before the message is sent?
And regardless if the email is a new email or is replying to or forwarding an email received by the POP account and cofirming the POP acconut is selected as the sending email account, the message is sent by the Gmail account?
All message sent by the POP account are sent by the Gmail account?
If so, delete the Gmail account from your iPad and test if a message sent with your POP account which will be the only email account available with the iPad's Mail app is recieved from your POP account/address.
If not, something else is wrong or on play that has nothing to do with the iPad.

I can't find which carrier to use on my refurbished I phone 3 G. The screen says I need a sim card and has the message IMEI 01 181100 937 9394. Also ICCID unknown.

They are free at Corporate Verizon stores; retailers usually charge for them. You also can call Customer Service and have them send you one.

• Basic Question on Copy and Delta link which one to use when?

Hi
Its basic question
My understanding about copy and Delta link is
Copy doesnot ahve direct relationship with source object (but it acts as a sibling) any changes done to spurce object does not affect target object.
Where as Delta link will have a parent child relation ship between source object bacially its a copy of source and inherits id properties. in case if i change source object does this affect target object, we can delete, add content to delta link target object.
let's say if i want to use standard quickpoll iView do i need to use copy or delta link similarly for other iviews, worksets, roles which one will be better.
Regards,
Murali

Murali,
Yes, your understanding is right.
Case 1 : Copy
A- Object
B- Copy of A
Both of them are independent.Any changes in A are not dependent on B and vice versa.
Case 2 : Delta Link
A - Object
B - Copy of A (via Delta link)
Any changes to A are reflected in B, as A is a parent and B a child.
But B would be an independent entity.Any changes to B would not effect A.
When you use either of them, depends on your need. When you are working with standard iviews or roles or workset, you can do a copy of the original, because in most cases we would not make changes to the standard roles or worksets or iviews. There by eliminating the process of making a delta copy.
But, if you are dealing with the roles that you have created and want to make a copy of it, you can use a delta link, because, even if you want to add more iviews and worksets to that role, they would get reflected when you make a delta copy.
Hope that helps.

• Which one to use - Customer Interface or TCA APIs? And why?

Hi,
Please let me know the answer for the following questions. I have a legacy system in 11.0.3 (which does not have the TCA architecture) and the customers have to be moved to R12. I could get the details in different flat files for the import from source system. Which is the approach I should use?
1) What does customer interface does NOT do which the TCA APIs can do?
2) Doesn’t the customer interface use the TCA API within it?
3) Is it better to use APIs than customer interface? If so, why and what are the criterions I should look for for deciding on what to use?
Highly appreciate the help.
Thanks,
Dinesh

For customer interface, just right a program to validate the source data and insert into open interface table, submit the import program and view output for errors. Much easy to maintain than API.
API need a certain level of programming and you will need to investigate for all the flow of creating a customer and their corresponding create procedure to call..

• Windows plain and 64-bit CC installed. Which one gets launched?

I have both InDesign CC and InDesign CC 64-bit installed on my Windows machine. My System info says I'm running a 64-bit system. When I launch ID CC, which application gets launched? What are the requirements to take advantage of the 64-bit architecture? Is it more memory? Can I uninstall the non-64-bit application? I don't see incredible speed increases with CC for Win.

It is very strange that users are forced to install both the 64-bit and
32-bit versions, and that there's no way to uninstall one of them. I
don't have such a strong opinion as Bob as to whether they should
actually drop the 32-bit version altogether -- that's something which
Adobe can decide. But definitely the user should have a choice! It just
seems quite shoddy to force us to use up our hardware resources to
install two versions of the same app for no reason without being able to
uninstall one. Plus the issues, as you say, of not obviously knowing
which app is being launched when you double-click a file.
I also posted a while back about more shodiness along these lines - the
brand new Adobe Exchange packager (which packages producers' scripts for
the brand new Adobe Exchange) actually fails to target the 64-bit
version of InDesign CC. Meaning that you can package your script, target
InDesign in Exchange Producer, not get any warnings, have your
submission "vetted" by Adobe, only to get users emailing you about why
your script doesn't appear inside the CC 64-bit script panel. I haven't
heard whether they've fixed that yet. So the lack of clarity about what
is being installed seems to reach right inside Adobe.

• Mac/Windows -- Which One?

My iPod was orginally formatted on a Windows PC. After I switched to an iMac, I placed all of my music onto the Mac, and I currently buy songs from iTunes on my Mac. I recently bought a Windows-based laptop. Last night, updated iPod software came across my iMac, but it couldn’t update my iPod because it was formatted in Windows. The software asked me if I wanted to instead reset to the factory settings, but I declined because I wanted to avoid an impending disaster. Do I have to update my iPod on the Windows machine? Should I use iTunes on the Windows laptop? Can you change your iPod to a Mac-based one? There are too many **** rules!
iMac G5, Rev. B Mac OS X (10.4.4) 2.0 ghz; 2 gb RAM; 400 gb hard drive

Probably the easiest way to use an iPod on both Mac and Windows computers is to format the iPod (using iPod Updater) using the PC. This will force your iPod to use the Windows file system (FAT32) which both the Mac and PC can read from and write to without the help of additional software. Of course then all your software updates for the iPod will have to be done on Windows.

If you need to use a Mac (HFS+) formatted iPod on a Windows PC, you'll need to install some 3rd party software such as XPlay 2.0 (which you can get from MediaFour Software). This will enable your Windows PC to read a Mac-formatted iPod.

• Oracle 8i Frontend which ones

Hi,
I looking for the solutions so as to find a frontend for an Oracle 8i database on W2K server. The firm uses Citrix and has NFuse. They use PC and terminal comptuters. They have SQL navigator also. My knowledges are Access/ASP/SQL, java (basis).
What I see for the moment is
Local solutions (for PC):
-Access 2002 + driver
-Oracle Developper 2000 + driver
Intranet solutions (PC and Terminals):
-citrix? (driver installed on the terminal server?)
Internet/Intranet solutions:
- Java Servlets
- Data Access Pages
- JSP
- Citrix NFuse and then Access, or other
Maybe what I wrote is not totally correct. If you see other solutions, or have comments on the solutions or have advice so as to choose a simple solution... could you tell me.
Thx.

Those options will certinaly all work. There are plenty of other options, but the ones you've listed are going to be more appropriate for your skillset.

• Oracle Client version : which one to install?

I apologize if this is not the correct forum, but wasn't sure whether to put it in th general forum or the installation forum.
I have the following environments
Production
Windows 2003 R2 Oracle 9.2.0.8
Windows 2003 R2 Oracle 11.1.0.7
RHEL 5 Oracle 11.2.0.2.0.
Similar evironments exist in QA and dev.
We have app developers that require just the oracle client to be installed.
Should I be installing the 9.x client on every laptop or take the most recent as I presume there is backward compatibility.
Any help is appreciated.
Thanks.

You should be using the 11gR2 client

• CMYK/RGB/Pantone: Which one to use?

I am not a graphic designer by training but just started a job which requires me to get up to speed (and fast!) on creating collateral from scratch all the way to printing. As you can probably imagine, I've been reading forums, books, and watching video tutorials to learn as fast as possible. That said, I still don't have a definitive answer for the following questions:
When creating documents that will be posted online and printed:Should I create it in a RGB or CMYK color profile?
RGB has a wider color gamut than CMYK…so is it just safer (for consistency) to always create documents in CMYK color profile (and convert to RGB for online PDFs later...or is it even necessary to convert?)?
On the other hand, RGB is able to show pictures more vibrantly...so is it better to create documents in RGB and convert to CMYK for print? What about out of gamut colors (do you have to adjust "by eye" to get it as close as possible)?
Can you be in a situation where you have a CMYK document profile but the colors or photos are in RGB color space? And vice versa?
If the company’s logo colors must be as accurate as possible, do you recommend using Pantone colors in a document that needs to be printed? (on that note, what is the difference between Pantone spot and Pantone process?)
Converting color profiles:Do you convert the whole document from RGB to CMYK (or vice versa) or convert each bit of colored text and artwork individually?
I know this is a bit all over the place, but thank you so much for your help!

Hi,
You'd better make your work in a reasonably wide mode but keeping an eye in the most likely output ways. That is: You'd better work with a reasonable editing RGB space but you have to visualize (softproof) constantly what you are doing in the kind of colour you're going to print at the end. So, if have pictures in Adobe RGB or sRGB for a litho offset job in coated paper that is best described with... lets say SWOP Coated blah. blah... You work the picturtes in that RGB space but you softproof your work with that particular CMYK color space before converting anything. And nowadays you usually convert only if your printer gives you the OK to use that CMYK profile to make a ready for print PDF. All this said taking for granted you are working in a reasonably decent screen that has been calibrated with some kind of colorimetre (and they are cheap enough. If you don't have one, go get it).
Forget about vibrant colors and what you see in screen. WYSIWYG is a myth in this sense. You've to think What I See Is What Is Will Print (As Crappy As It Might Be). Some print modes are good (coated offset) and some are ****** (newsprint). Such is printing life. The sooner you realize your limits the better results you'll get with the tools at hand.
InDesign is ready to deal with documents that have pieces in some different color spaces. No trouble... as long as you view them all in the same softproof mode... You'll be using the One Ring of the Proper Viewing Space.
Special inks (Pantone spot colors) are a powerful tool but they can be used only when the budget and the printing conditions make that use sensible. Use them sparingly but without fear, show your colours then.
If you are using a mixed color spaces document with many pages (InDesign typical situation), you convert everything just at the end when makin the final PDF... Unless you have some special pictures or pieces you want to deal with special care. Then you make by hand conversion taking extracare no to lose anything you want to keep. It's a question of workflow: Labour time against quality in balance.
If you have to convert images, that is done in Photoshop with, as I said, the proper use of spftproffing. You may find, for instance, in a situation where you prefer to lose some tones in the blues to keep some shades in a red robe... But there is masking for that as well.
Lots of things to learn in this trade. Welcome to hell ;P

• SAP BW or IDT, Which one to use?

Hi Experts,
I'm trying to understand this concept for some time now and need your help in order to put the pieces of this puzzle together in my mind. With IDT, data from multiple data sources can be combined into single schema and further can be used to generate one report. With SAP BW we can achieve the same functionality as well. As far as I understand, all the datasources that are supported by IDT are also supported by BW like : Oracle, IBM DB2, MS SQL Server, SAP HANA. I'm trying to understand the need of SAP IDT/Universe with SAP BW in an organization when we can simply have all the databases connected to SAP BW and consume the data through mostly any BO tools via Bex queries.
I'm sure there's some unique value added to the system by either one of these (IDT, BW) and one cannot be a completely replaced by other and I'm looking to learn the factors that decide what kind of data should flow through IDT or BW. I've noticed in my current organization the sales data flows through IDT/Universe and the remaining (inventory, invoice etc) through BW. Can everything not reside in BW instead of choosing two separate paths ?
I'd really appreciate any inputs on this.
Thanks
Gaurav

Hi Gaurav,
You are touching two different entities.
BO is not here to replace BW. It's majorly focused on reporting area. We can get best reports in BO whereas it is difficult to achieve the same with reporting tools like BEx.
Users will get good look and feel of data analytic features in BO.
BO can connect to all the data bases to get the data into its reports through universe view. where as in BW the connectivity means to get the data into BW to store data physically.
Coming to your business scenario,
Sales data might be residing in non-sap data base where they might be using BO as reporting tool and rest of the data like inventory might be stored in BW hence its using BEx.
Hope you got some clarity
Regards,
Naveen
