64 bit plugin support

Just read on EastWest's website, they are currently working on a 64 bit of their plugin engine for OSX (they've shipped 64 bit for windows for more than a year now) and hope to have it done January or soon after that. It will be interesting to see how it runs compared to the current version.

Both the 32 and 64 bit kernels can run both 32 bit and 64 bit apps. Booting into the kernel makes no difference in terms of app compatibility, it only makes a difference to drivers, which have to be the same 32/64 bits as the kernel.
Running an app in 64 bits means you can only run 64 bit plugins (at least without taking extra steps to make it work). But I'm talking about running the sample player as a separate app - you can run 32 and 64 bit apps at the same time and they should be able to pass data back and forth. I think some of plugins that are already running as separate processes are running 64 bit. I'm seeing one on 10.5 running Logic and EW's plugins.

  • Reader 64 bit browser support

We would like to enable PDF file scanning from our graphing tool, but need Adobe to provide a 64 bit version of nppdf32.dll for browser support.  We provide this scanning functionality from the 32 bit versions of Ansys Simplorer and Ansys Maxwell, but eliminate the PDF option for our 64 bit versions, because the CHtmlView we use won't load PDF files.  The technical world is moving rapidly to 64 bits.  Where is Adobe?

There is currently no 64-bit plugin available, but I have a strong feeling that it will be there in Reader 12.

  • Visual Studio compiling 64 Bit Plugin for InDesign Server CS5

    Hello guys,
Again I have a problem compiling 64 bit plugins, but this time in windows environments, the 32 bit compiling works fine (also on 64 bit machines). The first thing I've done was creating a new project configuration for 64 bit environments copying the 32 bit settings. Now I changed the precompiled libraries to use the 64 bit ones and changed the output directories. After that the compilation process completed without errors, but the resource files have not been copied to the output directory (the directory for them has been created, but it remains empty). Adding the created plugin into the servers directory ends up with a server message that the plugin could not be recognized. Have I missed something that is necessary for compiling 64 bit plugins?
I'm using the 64 Bit Developer Version of the indesign server CS5. The operating system is a Windows Server 2008 x64 R2 with Visual Studio 2008.
    Thanks!
P.S. a plugin compiled with 32 bit settings (including 32 bit libraries) also works for the 64 bit version of the server, so does it make any difference if I'm using 32 bit or 64 bit libraries?

The libraries were all correct (all using 64-bit).  The problem was a pathing issue.  libxml2 needs iconv.dll, but it couldn't find the 64-bit version that I built.  Once it found it, everything worked correctly.
The funny thing about depends.exe is that it isn't right all the time.  For example, if you open one of the 64-bit .aip files that ships with Illustrator (rename it to .dll first), you'll see what I'm talking about.  It complains that you're mixing x86 and x64 CPU types, even though you're not.
The program I used to discover my issue is Process Monitor (http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb896645.aspx).  I've been using it for years and love it.

  • How to run a 32-bit plugin on 64-bit Mac in PS CS5?

    Hi...
I have developed an automation plugin for PS CS 3,4 & 5 using CS4 SDK in 32-bit Mac processor.
Problem with this is that the plugin works for CS5 in 32-bit mode, but the plugin doesn't load when tried with CS5 on 64-bit mode. I made changes in the PiPL, but still no change. I referred the steps mentioned in the documentation for creating a 64-bit plugin, but in the "Step 3: Fix entry point and PiPL", it says that the entry point needs to be changed. But, the entry point mentioned is different from the Automation plugin entry-point. Can you please suggest a way to overcome this problem?
    Thanks!

I have mac OS X, Photoshop CC 64 bit and and i would like to run 32 bit plugins.. How may I do this ?

As said already by JJMack, you cannot do that.
Photoshop CS6, CC & CC 2014 only install a 64-bit version on Mac OS.
Photoshop CS5 installs a version that can launch in either 32 bit or 64 bit when you install on a 64-bit version of Mac OS (Mac OS X 10.5 or later). If you are using Mac OS X 10.4 or earlier, then Photoshop only installs the 32-bit version.
    Photoshop CS4 installs a 32-bit version only.

  • 32 bit plugins in 64 bit Konqueror?

I was searching around for stuff and I found this about running 32 bit plugins in 64 bit Konqueror:
    http://www.linuxfordummies.org/index.ph … ic=625.new
I tried exactly what it said and the 32 bit nspluginscan file hangs at 5%. I ran into another page that said that all you need is the 32 bit nspluginviewer file. I tried that and the nsplugin scan worked, but to no avail. I'm wondering if these people have a basic 32 bit chroot environment and don't know it. I also ran across other pages that have a more sophisticated approach, but they are based on Gentoo and Debian which both have modular KDE builds. I'm curious if others have run across this and have had any success.
The implications are stagering. Konqueror already runs Java applets (if you have the Java pointing towards the java executable in your JRE and not the generic 'java' command). Also, Sun caved on the 64 bit plug-in; they're trying to get it out the door with Mustang (Mozilla only).  I've heard that Helix Player already builds natively in 64 bit and Real is working on their part. The next MPlayer (today's SVN) plays nearly all WM files natively. If Flash were up one way or another... We're nearly (already?) at the point of 64 bit Linux being the multi-media powerhouse that 32 bit Linux is.

Hey skottish... (nice old post to bump)
I've added two packages (and a bunch of lib32 dependency packages) to AUR...
The first is nspluginwrapper-konq, it patchs nsplugins with fixed NPAPI headers and makes nspluginwrapper work with konqueror.
The second (better, all singing, all dancing, kick ass) option/package lib32-konqueror-nsplugins uses 32bit nsplugins (from the i686 package). I recomend using this one, as anyone who has used nspluginwrapper in FF knows it's not 100% stable (but it's always good to have options ).
    Enjoy!

    Hello
Is there a list of 32 bit plugins that will work with Windows7 64 bit and CS5 64 and 32bit?
    I use Xenofex2
    KPT3
    KPT6
    KPT Collection
    Eye Candy 3.1
    Andromeda 3D deluxe
    Flo's Undistort
    Redfield Plugins

    Hello
    Thanks for the reply.
It seems that I will need to spend £110 ($165) to find out. That would go a little way to buying a Canon MPE 65 Macro lens.
Very likely I will say where I am. Windows XP Pro SP2 is good enough.

  • GarageBand 10.0.3 will not load any of my 64-bit plugins

    Hello all,
I recently upgraded to Mac OS X Yosemite and updated GarageBand to 10.0.3.  However, when I try to load any of my 64-bit plugins, I get the following error messages:
The Audio Unit “Dimension P” could not be loaded for your project, and may need to be updated. Contact the manufacturer for an updated version or further assistance.
The Audio Unit “LinuxSample” could not be loaded for your project, and may need to be updated. Contact the manufacturer for an updated version or further assistance.
The Audio Unit “Rapture” could not be loaded for your project, and may need to be updated. Contact the manufacturer for an updated version or further assistance.
(Note that I am using SoundRadix's 32 Lives to make the Dimension Pro and Rapture Audio Units usable as 64-bit plugins.
Interestingly enough, both "LinuxSampler" and "Dimension Pro" are truncated at 11 characters.

GarageBand can only record at the  44.1 kHz sample rate.
The error message you are seeing is typical for two apps fighting for the sample rate, for example if you open Logic Pro before launching GarageBand.
Try to change the sample rate back to 44.1 kHz in the utility Audio Midi Setup (In the folder Applications > Utilities).

  • Can 32-bit plugins remain in plugin folder and not crash Logic?

    Pre-sales question:
    1) If you have any 32-bit plugins in the plugin folder, can they just be disabled in the Logic X AU manager, or do they crash Logic X upon launch? The reason I ask is because I wanted to keep some in the folder for when I use another DAW that doesn't have a problem with them.
    Question on Logic 9:
    2) If I am in Mountain Lion, and wanted to run Logic 9 at times, plus Logic X, does Logic 9 have to be set to run at 32-bit so that it could still use the 32-bit plugins?
    3) If Logic 9 is running in 64-bit mode, can it access the 32-bit plugins in Mountain Lion?
I know the only thing will be that I can't open a Logic X session back in Logic 9, but I might want to bounce a quick part back in Logic 9 that uses a 32-bit plugin.
    Thanks.

    hi
    1. Yes you can leave your 32bit plugins in Component folder. Logic X just ignore them. They don't crash LPX
    2. Logic 9 can run with Logic X installed. It doesn't matter if you run LP9 in 32 or 64bit mode.LP 9 will work
    as before.
    3. Yes Logic 32bit mode can access 32bit plugins through the bridgre as before

I recently upgraded to Mavericks from Snow Leopard. Does Snow Leopard still exist on my Mac? If so, is it possible to restart under Snow Leopard in order to run PowerPC apps? If not, is there an OS available in 64 bit that supports PowerPC apps? Mav ***.

The only reason I upgraded to Mavericks was because my Snow Leopard OS was 32 bit, which I was told would support only 4GB of RAM.
That wasn't quite right. You can put in as much RAM as your Mac's hardware supports. The division is in the apps themselves. A 32 bit app can't use more than 4 GB or RAM. A 64 bit app can use much more.
For example, as a 32 bit only version, Photoshop CS3 can't use more 4GB of RAM, no matter how much you actually have installed. CS4 or later can use all the RAM you want to throw at it.

  • 32-bit plugin shortcut created on windows 64 does not work in PS CS6 (32bit)

Here is a really odd one.
I have 32-bit and 64-bit PS installed on Windows 8. If I have a 32-bit plugin in FOLDER32, and I manually create a shortcut in the 32-bit PS Plugins folder that points to FOLDER32, 32-bit PS will not load the plugin in FOLDER32.
If I do the same thing for a 64-bit plugin in 64-bit PS, it works fine.
However, if I create the shortcut to FOLDER32 from a 32-bit program (such as a custom 32-bit installer tool), then 32-bit PS *can* follow the shortcut and does see the plugin in FOLDER32.
    Weird, huh?
Message was edited by: Shmoopie99 (made title more specific)

The WoW64 subsystem redirects shortcuts that point to the 64-bit Program Files to the 32-bit Program Files (x86) causing the plugin to not be found.
The simplest fix would be to copy the 32-bit plugin into the Plug-Ins folder of the 32-bit version of Photoshop.
Unfortunately Wow64DisableWow64FsRedirection does not work for %PROGRAMFILES%, so a 32-bit application would have to attempt to fix the path manually.

  • 32 bit plugins in 64 bit Opera possible?

    Hi all!
I'm considering installing the new Opera 9.50 (64 bit)  and was wondering if anyone had some experiences with using 32 bit plugins (flash and such..).
I've read/heard rumors of the 9.50 version having some kind of built-in "nspluginwrapper"..? Ref this posting: http://my.opera.com/csant/blog/2007/10/ … -bit-opera
    Any thoughts?

arch64 with opera 9.5 doesn't seem to work.
    Doing a:
    #file $fileflags "/usr/lib/opera/9.50/operapluginwrapper-ia32-linux" | sed 's/.*://'
    Returns:
ELF 32-bit LSB executable, Intel 80386, version 1 (SYSV), for GNU/Linux 2.2.5, dynamically linked (uses shared libs), stripped
Which is a 32bit executable which isn't executable under arch64. The only way to execute this is in a 32bit chroot environment.
I created a wrapper around this wrapper to execute it in my chroot environment, however this doesn't work due to file descriptor errors. Because the command run is "detect -fd 59 /usr/lib/opera/plugins/libflashplayer.so". The number 59 changes every time opera is run.
Doing an strace on operapluginwrapper, shows that the program tries to write to file descriptor 59. As shown below:
    write(59, "application/x-shockwave-flash:sw"..., 99) = -1 EBADF (Bad file descriptor)
    write(59, "Shockwave Flash\0", 16)      = -1 EBADF (Bad file descriptor)
    write(59, "Shockwave Flash 9.0 r124\0", 25) = -1 EBADF (Bad file descriptor)
As such i'm not sure as to how to get this working.
