64 bit version in Essbase version 11 performance compared to 32 bit

Hi :)
I am interested if anyone could tell me about performance experience in an Essbase 64 bit version 11.x.x installation compared to a 32 bit version 9.3 installation? I am currently working with BSO cubes and would like to know if we could aggregate/calculate cubes faster switching to a newer version and a 64-bit installation.

Michael

You can address up to eight threads in parallel calc in 64 bit versus the four in 32 bit.
And you have much more efficient access to memory.
I know I have read of some people seeing slower performance post the move to 64 bit, but that's the exception, not the rule.
You may have to reconfigure (it's likely a good chance to examine your applications regardless of what you end up doing) the block and the caches and maybe even the calcs to get the best performance, but regardless of what you end up doing, moving to 64 bit should see significant speed increases.

  • List versions causing performance problems

    We have a List - not Library - List - with about 100 columns (Yes. We know that's a lot and have verified that one Item wraps to two DB rows), none of which is indexed.  An InfoPath form is used to enter and
    view the List Items. Versioning is on for auditing purposes. Versioning appears to be causing a significant performance issue - the more versions a record has, the longer it takes for the IP form to open.  Generally, each version adds one second to the
    time it takes for the IP form to open. So if a list item has 30 versions, it takes about 30 seconds from the time the user clicks the Title link until the IP form opens. Obviously having to wait 30 seconds or more for a form to open is a problem.
    The performance is similar when we open the Version History window for any one Item. We also tried using PowerShell to load a List Item's Versions and it, too, behaves the same...about 1s delay for each version an
    Item has.
    Any suggestions on how we can configure the list or SP to prevent versions from slowing performance?

  • Can changing SWF version improve performance?

    Are there performance improvements in each new Flash Player? And if so do you have to set the swf-version to an updated value?

    In Flash Player, SWF versioning is primarily a mechansim for maintaining backwards compatiblity.
    New features are tied to the version where they're introduced, but the important distinction is that we offer bug-for-bug backwards compatibility, with security as an exception.
    If we encounter an API that works incorrectly in previous versions and the fix is likely to break existing content, we'll version-check the fix and apply it to only versions equal or greater to the SWF version where it's introduced.
    I can't think of a good example where we've version-checked a performance fix off the top of my head, but it's definitely within the realm of possibility.
    TLDR; You'll probably want to publish to the highest SWF version unless you have a good reason not to, especially now that background update is widely deployed.

  • Cisco ASR1002-X Netflow version 5 performance

    Hello,
    customer is asking me regarding 1:1 Netflow version 5 on ASR1002-X.
    Is it fully supported?
    Is there any known caveat?
    I suspect it lowers stability of the system, and need to be sure.
    Thank you,
    Josef Baloun

    Are you referring to the sampling ratio? 1:1 sampling is sending all traffic conversations for NetFlow analysis using sampling. This can result in an increase in CPU and memory utilization on the device - so if this is a traffic heavy network, 1:1 sampling is not recommended.

  • DR site OS version is different compare with Production

    Hi All,
    In my production 11gR2 database running in RHEL 5.6 version.
    My DR site DELL server is advance version and the minimum OS version RHEL 5.7. So I couldn't able to install RHEL 5.6.
    If I install advance version of OS then it will give any issues during the DR database implementation. Anyone please give your suggestion....
    Muthu

    Hello,
    Please refer this http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E11882_01/server.112/e25608/standby.htm#i58150
    You can have your OS on primary and standby servers to be different, but make sure that the same release of Oracle Database is installed on both primary and standby servers.
    Note from the document:
    Data Guard provides increased flexibility for Data Guard configurations in which the primary and standby systems may have different CPU architectures, operating systems (for example, Windows & Linux), operating system binaries (32-bit/64-bit), or Oracle database binaries (32-bit/64-
    bit).
    The same release of Oracle Database Enterprise Edition must be installed on the primary database and all standby databases, except during rolling database upgrades using logical standby databases.

  • Cannot see all the essbase dimensions when performed reverse engg.using ODI

    Hi,
    I performed the reverse engineering process for getting the dimensions from Essbase to the Model. First time the session has shown an error. When i right clicked the session in the operator and clicked on restart it has run succesfuly. But only the Accounts dimension got reversed. The rest of the dimensions are not seen in the Model. Please suggest

    I have got to import my actuals data which is ther in Oracle database to Planning. As i was told that ODI is not compatible with EPMA, i cannot load data into Planning using ODI. As anyways the data is to be stored in essbase itself i want to use ODI to load the data into essbase. For metadata upload i am making use of Interface tables
    My problem is
    1.do i need to have a staging table for bringing my actuals data into it first and then connect it to Essbase?
    2. If yes, what shud be the table format, like the columns?
    3. And, the user wants this to be automated. And if there are any changes to the base tables(tables with actual data in oracle) they shud be reflected in the essbase aslo. So is there any lookup functionality in ODI?
    I am new to ODI so having many doubts. Hope to see a reply soon

  • Version 7 improved compared to 4?

    Hi Everyone,
    Has anyone upgraded from version 4 to version 7 of premiere elements (or replaced)? Have you found 7 to be more stable? I use 4 for large mpeg2 compilations from my sony hdd camcorder and have considerable instability when adding multiple titles (I title the date on every clip).
    Thanks, Eric

    As far as I'm concerned, Mpeg and PE, is like oil and water, they just don't mix very well.
    This is especially true with large files, or reasonably complex projects.
    I doubt this has changed much with PE7, but I'm all ears if someone wants to convince me otherwise (I'm currently using PE4).
    If you want to make your life more enjoyable, convert Mpeg to DV-AVI and use that, PE loves DV-AVI.
    I use Windows Movie Maker to convert my Sony Handycam Mpeg's to DV-AVI, and PE4 runs okay with these conversions.
    Another option is to switch to Sony's Vegas software, this pakage is geared towards Mpeg and handles these files with no conversion to DV-AVI...

  • Essbase calc script performance issues

    Hi,
    I have essbase 9.3 running on Sun solaris 4 CPU, 16 GB server. The calc script "calc all" takes ~3 hrs to complete.
    This is the calc script.
    /ESS_LOCALE English_UnitedStates.US-ASCII@Binary
    SET UPDATECALC OFF;
    SET CALCPARALLEL 4;
    SET CALCTASKDIMS 2;
    CALC ALL;
    We don't have to calc all dim, but even if we
    But even with specific dim we get the same timing. Below is the script
    SET UPDATECALC OFF;
    SET CALCPARALLEL 4;
    SET CALCTASKDIMS 2;
    FIX ("Y2009", "Actual");
    CALC DIM("Data Source","Intercompany","LegalEntity","Site","Department","Entity");
    ENDFIX
    The ess00001.ind is 700 Mb and ess00001.pag is 2.1 GB.
    In Admin services, this is what I see for caches
    1) Index cache size is 1 GB for this DB
    2) Index cache current value is 1gb
    3) Datafile cache setting is 1.5 GB
    4) Datafile cache current value is 0 (?? not sure why??)
    5) Data cache setting 4.1 GB
    6) Index page setting 8 kb
    please help ...
    Thanks
    Moe

    Moe,
    I'm guessing you inherited this thing, else you would know why the cache settings are what they are, but here are some thoughts:
    Caches:
    3) Datafile cache setting is 1.5 GB
    4) Datafile cache current value is 0 (?? not sure why??)You're running the database in Buffered I/O, so the data file cache is ignored.
    1) Index cache size is 1 GB for this DB
    2) Index cache current value is 1gb You have consumed all of the cache -- I'm a little confused, as you state your .ind file to be 700 megabytes -- generally the index cache consumption doesn't go beyond the .ind file size. When you look at your hit ratio statistics in EAS, does it show a 1 against the index cache? If yes, then you don't need to look any further as that's as good as it's going to get.
    5) Data cache setting 4.1 GBUnless you're using MEMSCALINGFACTOR, I don't think Essbase is actually addressing all of the memory you've assigned. What are you showing as actually used? In any case, having a data cache almost twice as big as the .pag files is a waste as it's way too large.
    Easy, off the cuff suggestions without knowing more about your db:
    1) Try AGG instead of CALC DIM for sparse dimensions.
    2) Try turning off (yes, turning off, you'd be surprised) parallel calc, and benchmark it. It will probably be slower, but it's nice to know.
    3) Dimension order? Modified hourglass?
    4) Tried defragmenting the database and benchmarking the performance?
    5) What is your block size? Big? Small?
    6) I think you are not calculating your Accounts/Measures dimension in your calc? If you are, and it's dense, could you make those Accounts dynamic calc -- dropping a dimension from the calc can be huge.
    I'm sure there will be other suggestions -- these are the easiest.

  • Essbase I/O performance

    I am with Cambex Corporation. We develop server memory and storage products. I have seen OLAP surveys and benchmarks which indicate that database load and query performance is a performance issue for some customers and in some cases loading the OLAP database on a solid state (RAM-based) disk has had a significant impact in improving performance. See for example: http://www.dmreview.com/master.cfm?NavID=198&EdID=4085http://www.4pointstech.com/pdf/scm-benchmark.pdf I would be very interested in your view on the subject. Specifically: - Do you have an application/configuration of Essbase which is "I/O bound"?- Are you or do you know of any Essbase customer who has used a solid state disk to alleviate a performance issue? I am investigating the market for high-capacity, low-cost Solid State disks as a new product opportunity for Cambex and am focusing on OLAP as one of the potential opportunities. Hi Dana.Kadi,
    This issue may more about the Exchange server issue,
     this forum is not specific for the Exchange related issue there have a specific Exchange I suggest you ask in that forum.
    ESE (store.exe) will grow the cache to consume almost all available RAM on the server if there is no other memory pressure on the system For example, if the server
    contains 16gb physical memory, if there is no other memory pressure, one could expect that the store.exe process will grow to use up to 14gb memory (16gb minus 2gb allocated to Kernel mode). If you disable the ESE Cache the RAM cache workload will become to
    use more disk IO.
    About the Exchange question please post to the Exchange forum.

  • Essbase MDX Query Performance Problem

    Hello,
    I'm doing an analysis in OBIEE to Essbase cubes, but I don't know why OBIEE generates two MDX queries against Essbase. The first one returns in a reasonable time ( 5 minutos ) but the second one never returns.
    With
    set [_Year] as '[Year].Generations(2).members'
    set [_Month] as '[Mês Caixa].Generations(2).members'
    set [_Product2] as 'Filter([Product].Generations(2).members, (([Product].CurrentMember.MEMBER_Name = "SPECIAL" OR [Product].CurrentMember.MEMBER_ALIAS = "SPECIAL") OR ([Product].CurrentMember.MEMBER_Name = "EXECUTIVE" OR [Product].CurrentMember.MEMBER_ALIAS = "EXECUTIVE")))'
    set [_Client Name] as 'Filter([Client Name].Generations(2).members, (([Client Name].CurrentMember.MEMBER_Name = "JOHN DOE" OR [Client Name].CurrentMember.MEMBER_ALIAS = "JOHN DOE")))'
    set [_Service Name] as 'Generate([Service Name].Generations(2).members, Descendants([Service Name].currentmember, [Service Name].Generations(4), leaves))'

    } on columns,

    from [cli.Client]
    With
    set [_Year] as '[Year].Generations(2).members'
    set [_Month] as '[Mês Caixa].Generations(2).members'
    set [_Product2] as 'Filter([Product].Generations(2).members, (([Product].CurrentMember.MEMBER_Name = "SPECIAL" OR [Product].CurrentMember.MEMBER_ALIAS = "SPECIAL") OR ([Product].CurrentMember.MEMBER_Name = "EXECUTIVE" OR [Product].CurrentMember.MEMBER_ALIAS = "EXECUTIVE")))'

    member [Accounts].[_MSCM1] as 'AGGREGATE({[_Product2]}, [Accounts].[Paid Amount])'
    select
    { [Accounts].[_MSCM1]

    from [cli.Client]
    Does anyone know why OBIEE generate these two queries and how to optimize them since it's generated automatically by OBIEE ?
    Thanks,

    Hi,
    I have been through the queries, and understand that the "_MSCM1" is being aggregated across Product and Paid Amount from the query extract below:
    member [Accounts].[_MSCM1] as 'AGGREGATE({[_Product2]}, [Accounts].[Paid Amount])'
    If I am getting it right, there is an aggregation rule missing for [Paid Amount] (I think that's the reason, the query is to aggregate _MSCM1 by "Paid Amount" ie just like any other dimension).
    Could you please check this once and this is why I think BI is generating two queries? I am sorry, if I got this wrong.
    Hope this helps.
    Thank you,
    Dhar

  • Exported version looks terrible compared to what i see in iMovie

    trying to export a vid i've got done. it is for youtube. i've got some text in a few spots. when i'm looking at the vid in Movie, it looks great! it looks exactly like it should. the text has a nice solid outline. but when i export, the text on the vid looks horrible and blotchy and in general the footage (some live action stuff) looks at least 50% worse than what i see in iMovie. totally unacceptable, really. there's got to be a better way.
    i have tried different options when exporting. but there has to be something i'm missing. what are my options? here is a comparison of what i see in imovie vs what i see when i export:

    If this is reproducible, you should report it as a bug at http://feedback.photoshop.com/photoshop_family#problem
    Exporting at 100% is a workaround to a problem that shouldn't exist.

  • Zfs/nfs poor performance compared to zfs/smb

    I setup zfs with sharenfs on my solaris box and i'm having a very poor performance with nfs (about 1-3MB/s).
    When i share the same zfs volume with sharesmb performance is very good (about 40-50MB/s) for a single disk zfs volume on a gigabit network.
    Both tests where made using MAC OSX 10.5.2 client using a single iso file transfert (about 4Gigs).
    I also mount through nfs my MAC client (using apple nfs share) from the solaris box and copy the file to the ZFS volume, nfs performance was very good in this case (45-50MB/s).
    Why my solaris zfs/nfs sharing is so slow compared to mac nfs sharing or solaris zfs/smb sharing ?

    I'm guess your talking about write performance ie your copying the ISO from a local drive to the ZFS/NFS drive.
    The write performance of NFS/ZFS has been known to suck for a long time.
    First make sure your running the latest solaris version (10U4) or a recent recommended patch set.
    If not, upgrade and see if that helps.
    Unfortunately, the solaris developers have a (some say overly) strict interpretation of the coherence requirements of the NFS spec and what it implies about caching data in memory and flushing to disk.
    This is discussed a little here
    and
    here
    Their position (as I understand it) that their implemation provides the best performance that can be obtained while maintaining adherence with the relevant standards and the fact that every other NFS implementation has streets better performance just means that everyone else is non conforming.
    Anyway maybe can try the solution that the "best practices" suggests ie using a local drive as an intent log.
    If that doesnt work, try setting zil_disable (set zfs:zil_disable=1′ to /etc/system).
    You will have to weigh the significance of the purported reliability issues of that solution for yourself.
    Basically what it comes down to is that if your nfs server crashes and the client doesnt, but keeps cheerfully writing away. Then some of what it wrote maybe lost. Even silently a part in the middle.
    One other thing to check, the storage isn't coming off a SAN is it?
    If it is you can try "set zfs:zfs_nocacheflush=1" instead of zil_disable. Its a less aggressive variant that can reduce issues with san storage.
