64 bit Win7 on x100e

Hi
I have got my x100e coming with 32-bit Win7 Pro. I'd like to use 64-bit. However, I cannot find any 64bit recovery media for x100e on Lenovo website. Would anyone advise how to do this? Can I simply fresh install 64bit Win7 pro using my OEM license found in "My computer ---> properties" ?
Thanks

Thanks Solutor. ABR looks to be a great tool. But, I am a little bit worry since Win7 is still in beta stage.
Win7 is just a miracle, really it's beta was called vista.
Why did you say using the license number from the sticker is wasteful? I suppose this OEM license is dedicated only for x100e. Even i dont use it, I cannot use on other PC. Please teach if I am wrong.
The key on the sticker is just a plain, virgin, seven serial. You can use it on another pc, but obviously this is not legit.
Instead the keys used by lenovo to activate the oem copy are unique for all Lenovo products, but they works only if paired with a correct lenovo bios signature and the correct certificate.
The keys are different for different os versions (ultimate, pro, starter and so on) this means that all the x100e (and all the other seven ready lenovo notebook) , if installed wit (say) seven professional, are sharing the same activation key.
The bios signature is obviously permanent, what you need to have a preactivated copy are the two remaining items: the key and the certificate, abr will backup and restore them for you  with a single mouse click.
By the way, can I still use the sticker key after the fresh installation of Win7 64 bit from a vanilla installation media?
Thanks
Yes you can, as on any other seven installation, but obviously you need the online activation, and you will need to reactivate your installation if you change some HW, eg. the HDD.

  • SEVERE, MAJOR Problems with ITunes Video Playback on 64-bit Win7

So I got a new rig (ASUS G74SX running 64-bit Win7 Home Prem) after I figured my nearly 5-year old HP Pav dv9500t running 32-bit Vista Home Prem had put in good years of work.  In using ITunes on the Vista system, I never really saw problems with its player on video podcasts.
Completely different story on the Win7 machine.  Aside from all the other problems noted with ITunes itself (not the player) in this forum, there is this:
    1. When something like UAC occurs, the video clip runs in the player, but the video is frozen (like a photographic still) while the audio continues to run on normally.  Workaround:  minimize then restore the player window, then the video part of playback returns.  Of course that gets annoying doing that multiple times after a while.
    2. With one video podcast (for example, The Young Turks podcasts), while the audio again continues normally, the video track lags unbelievably.  The video appears in slow motion.  The viewer risks a headache from vertigo if the viewer continues watching slow motion video unmatched with the normal audio.
At first I considered the possiblity that it was related to a 5400 rpm hard disk drive, which came with the new machine and I would not have normally have not bought myself, but I had someone buying it for me (my HP system only had 7200 rpm drives...what is ASUS thinking in letting Best Buy do a performance markdown?).  Then I played that video podcast with VLC media player, and it absolutely had NO problem keeping up with the video and audio.  (Another thing to like and prefer with this player is that you can keep the window on top.)
Seriously, the programming group at ITunes should be ashamed and maybe every member of its group should consider getting another day job.  With each revision, ITunes seems to get worse.

My installation of version 10.6.x of ITunes does not have QuickTime.
As of version 10.5 of ITunes, QuickTime is no longer apparently bundled with ITunes, which clearly has its own player.  In addition, I have used a minimal install of ITunes.  This eliminates the install of the bug-ridden Bonjour service, which was filling up Windows event logs needlessly and crashing from time to time anyway.
Now although I installed ITunes only a few days ago in this new laptop, I did find ITunes in the Programs & Features page and clicked Repair.  After the "repair," I played the video revealing the flaws of the ITunes player, and the playback problems were still there.  I used the other media player and it played flawlessly.

  • Embedded Flash videos play on 32 bit Win7, not on 64 bit Win7, IE9 32 bit

    Hello,
I have two PCs.  One is running 32 bit Win7 SP1, the other 64 bit Win 7 SP1.  Both have IE9 32 bit and the latest version of Flash 32 bit, 10.3.183.7.  This page http://www.iorr.org/talk/read.php?1,999739 and others at iorr.org have embedded YouTube Flash videos.  On the 32 bit machine, they play fine on both Admin and Standard accounts.  On the 64 bit machine, the embedded videos are only visible on the Admin account.  Standard accounts show an empty box with a broken icon symbol where the video should be.  (Note:  not trying to use IE9 64 bit.)
I've spent a couple hours uninstalling and reinstalling Flash trying to see the videos on a Standard account on the 64 bit PC.  Nothing works.  Any suggestions?  Note that normal Flash videos work fine on the 64 bit PC Standard accounts.  Only embedded videos fail.
During this exercise, I noticed that the 32 bit PC has the Flash Player Control Panel under Control Panel->System and Security.  The 64 bit PC does not have it there, but I can manually bring it up from a CPL file in the SysWOW64 folder.  Not sure if that's part of the problem or a different problem.
    Thanks for your time.

I spent hours and hours on the same problem. My computer has a slightly different configuration. I am using Win7 32 bit, but experienced the same problems. Embedded Flash is working under Admin account, but not under other accounts. Many de-installs and re-installs, but nothing seemed to help. Until I found this internet post:
    http://superuser.com/questions/244316/embedded-video-is-not-shown-in-internet-explorer-9-r c-or-beta
The solution offered in that post solved all my problems. Hurray!!!
    Solution:
    * Open REGEDIT
    * Find the following key:
    HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\MIME\Database\Content Type\application/x-shockwave-flash
    * Delete the key
    * Re-install flash
    * Problem solved (in my case)
In the replies of the above mentioned link another solution was given (in stead of deleting the key)
    * Right click the above mentioned key
    * Change the access rights and allow all users read access to the key (did not check this myself)
In order to keep the solution safe in this thread, please find a copy of the info in the link above here:
In IE 9 RC or in beta, the embedded video is not shown in the web page. I verified the security settings in "internet options". Did not find any issue. Please find the screen shot below. I am able to view the flash videos in Youtube. But, for some reason, in some sites the embedded video is not shown.
I don't have this issue with Firefox.
    UPDATE:
I am able to see view the embedded video in Admin account. But not able to view it in Standard account.
    UPDATE:
As it works as administrator, use Process Monitor and filter the Status on ACCESS DENIED.
This allows you to troubleshoot what key the iexplore.exe process can't access.
@TomWij, Thanks for the suggestions. The Process Monitor hint helped to nail down the issue. When run with standard privileges, it is getting "ACCESS DENIED" for reading the key
    HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\MIME\Database\Content Type\application/x-shockwave-flash.
When I elevated the privilege to Admin account, it did not have any issue. Then I uninstalled flash, deleted the registry key and then installed flash again. Now, I am able to view the embedded video in standard account.

  • Bootcamp - 32 or 64 bit Win7 on this Macbook?

    Hi everybody-
    I have a late 2008 Macbook 5,1 with a 2.0GHz Processor and 4GB RAM.
I want to install Windows7 so I can install and play a video game that is windows-only. The game website states what the system requirements are and I just meet the bare minimum in terms of processor, RAM and video card.
I have seen the apple support page on 32 vs 64 bit Win7 in Bootcamp but am still not clear about whether or not my Macbook5,1 can install Win7 64 bit.
    Questions:
Given that its for gaming and I have a bare minimum system here, will 64bit Win7 allow more RAM to help the game run better, or does my machine not accept 64 bit anyway?
If I have to stick with 32bit, will upgrading my RAM help the game run smoother or am I already at the max RAM 32bit can use?
    Thanks everyone-
    VeggieRonin

As long as you have a Core 2 Duo or better, then you can run 64-bits
An easy check is to run Applications -> Utilities -> Activity Montior, and look at the "Kind" column, and you should see lots of apps running as 64-bit apps.  If they can run 64-bits, I do not see any reason why Windows could not run as 64-bits.
However, I'm not Windows person, so your mileage may vary.

  • Hints in moving from XP Pro - 64-bit Win7?

I'm about to move LR 3 from WinXP to a 64-bit Windows 7 machine with a lot more power. The Lightroom Queen (Victoria Bampton) has some good suggestions for upgrading, such as at  http://www.lightroomqueen.com/blog/2009/02/28/how-do-i-move-lightroom-to-a-new-computer/ and http://www.lightroomqueen.com/blog/2008/12/15/default-file-locations-lightroom-2/ . However, it hasn't been updated for Win7 (yet; I also just posted there).
I'm day-new to Win7, and am not yet familiar with where preferences are saved. Is the following approach, based on Victoria's sage advise, sound? Thanks!
                Dilip
    0. Start the LR installer to see what is its default location - I am guessing it will be something like c:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 3; whatever it is, let's call it InstallDir. Cancel out of the install.
    1. Copy [OLD]c:\BinWin32\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 3 to  [NEW] InstallDir so that any old settings saved here are picked up
    2. Copy [OLD]c:\Lightroom Library (where my catalogs and previews are) to [NEW]d:\Lightroom Library
    3. Copy folder of preference and preset files from old to new:
        [OLD] c:\Documents and Settings\[my username]\Application Data\Adobe\Lightroom\
        to
       [NEW] ??
    4. Copy Camera RAW Cache and Profiles from folder
       [OLD] c:\Documents and Settings\[my username]\Application Data\Adobe\Camera Raw
       to
       [NEW] ??
    5. Install LR onto the new machine
    6. Open the catalog on the new computer by double clicking it and relinking any files whose folders have changed in the move

    0. Start the LR installer to see what is its default location - I am guessing it will be something like c:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 3; whatever it is, let's call it InstallDir. Cancel out of the install.
There's no need for this step - the installer will choose the correct install folder and that information does not help you in any way in your further steps
    1. Copy [OLD]c:\BinWin32\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 3 to  [NEW] InstallDir so that any old settings saved here are picked up
    What is this folder?
    2. Copy [OLD]c:\Lightroom Library (where my catalogs and previews are) to [NEW]d:\Lightroom Library
    OK
At this point I would install the application - you can copy the settings and presets after installation.
    3. Copy folder of preference and preset files from old to new:
        [OLD] c:\Documents and Settings\[my username]\Application Data\Adobe\Lightroom\
         to
        [NEW] ??
the easiest way to get to the Application Data folder of your user account is by choosing Start-Run (or Windows key + R) and enter %appdata% (that's a variable that brings you to the AppData folder of your user account without the need of changing the Folder view settings). Here under Roaming\Adobe\Lightroom you'll copy your presets.
    4. Copy Camera RAW Cache and Profiles from folder [OLD] c:\Documents and Settings\[my username]\Application Data\Adobe\Camera Raw
       to
       [NEW] ??
I would recommend you'd move the Camera Raw cache to somewhere else then the C.\ drive for performance porposes - you can change this location in the LR settings.
And just one thing that has nothing to do with LR but Windows and security: DO NOT use an administrator account as your daily user account - the old story 'you have to be an administrator in order to be able to work with windows' is a thing of the past. Whenever you need administrative permission (e.g. installing SW) you'll be prompted for your administrater credentials.

  • Problem with HP 3600n Color Laserjet Printer and new HP Notebook Running 64 bit Win7

I have a new HP notebook (dv7t-6100) with Core-i7 Processor, running 64 bit Windows 7 with all of the latest updates.
I also have a 27" iMac with Core-i7 Processor running 64 bit Windows 7 underneath Parallels 7. Parallels is a program that creates a virtual machine underneath Mac OSX.
Both versions of 64 bit Windows 7 work perfectly . . . EXCEPT, neither will print from my HP 3600n Color Laserjet. The iMac will print to the 3600n in OSX mode, and an earlier version of 32 bit Windows 7 under Parallels printed perfectly with this 3600n printer.
These facts prove that the printer is OK, the connection is OK. However, the 64 bit Windows 7 systems do not print.
In both of the 64 bit Windows 7 installs I allowed Windows to find and download the HP driver for this printer. Install of the driver was apparently successful. Still no printing.
One strange fact: Sometimes when I turn the computer off, the 3600n printer will print the items that had been in the queue before powering down. That is the only time it has printed anything . . . except under OSX on the iMac.
Does anyone know if there is a basic problem with 64 bit Windows 7 and this printer ?
Thanks for any help you can provide.

I just had the same problem with my MacBook Pro using 10.5.5 After trying a number of things, the following worked. (not sure what specifically ... just did this combination)
    1. Had the Apple store Genius Bar folks install the latest HP drivers.
    2. Restart computer
    3. Restart the HP Color LaserJet 3600
    4. Connected the HP printer and MacBook Pro directly into a switch, so the wireless was not an issue (both machines had IP addresses set and computer's was set to DHCP with manual IP).
    5. Instead of using the System Preference printing and fax tool, I started Text Edit, typed something and said "print".
Print window came up and said "no printer selected"
    6. I clicked on the drop down so it would look for printers.
    7. It found the HP Color LaserJet 3600.
    8. I clicked on the name of the printer and the computer went out and found the driver
    9. I clicked on "Add" and it added the printer.
    10. I tried a couple of test prints in different programs.
    11. I disconnected the hard wired ethernet cables and set the computer to be on the wireless.
    12. I printed a few more test prints in various programs.
I had previously tried selecting the printer and drivers through the System Preferences to no avail, but doing it this way worked.

  • PS CS4 and 64 bit Win7, RAW problem???  Help!

My old system up and died last week, so I ended up with a new computer.  I have the fastest AMD Phenom processor, 4mg fast RAM, an ATI video card with 1mg RAM, and a complete new install of Windows 7 64-Bit.  I installed PS Elements 8 and PS CS4 this morning.  PSE8 went on without a glitch and seems to work perfect in RAW.  CS4 had a couple of install errors, but installed saying that "a few features" may only work partly   I downloaded PSE8 from a disk and CS4 from the Adobe site, and I am  fully licensed for both programs.  I down loaded new photos (same ones) to both programs (RAW only) and PSE8 opened all of them perfectly with full controls.  When I opened BRIDGE in PS CS4, all of my thumbnails were an icon files that said NEF but no actual pictures like PSE8.  When I tried to open them in RAW they would not open.  Any ideas out there?  I am not sure where to start looking.  I tried to re-install CS4, but the program would just "hang".  Also, PSE8 automatically put an Icon on my desktop where CS4 did not.  So my guess is an installation problem.  Any Help is appreciated!

Sounds like you do not have ACR (Adobe camera raw) installed, or it is in wrong folder.  Go the PS help/about plug-in/camera raw.  It should give you a version 5.x.  There can only be one file listed.  If you have none download it in updates I believe.

  • Sudden failure of 32-bit Oracle 11g ODBC driver in 64-Bit Win7 box

I had a working ODBC connection to an Oracle DB using the 32-bit 11g ODBC driver. Suddenly I was unable to connect, getting the error:
    Testing Connection
    Unable to connect
    SQLState=S1000
[Oracle][ODBC][Ora]ORA-00604: error occurred at recursive SQL level 1
ORA-12899: value too large for column "SYSTEM"."LOGON_AUDIT"."PROCESS" (actual: 13, maximum: 12)
    ORA-06512: at line 51
    OK
For a strange twist, the connection works perfectly with the workstation in Safe Mode. I've tried disabling Symantec Endpoint Protection, and adjusting the Firewall, but so far no dice. Any advice I can get will be appreciated!
    Thanks

How do you get the 32bit client to communicate with the 64bit Oracle instance on the same windows box? After installing the 64 bit db and client (on a developer desktop), I installed the 32 bit client to a different oracle home. I could not get it to connect to the listener - what am I doing wrong? Should I reinstall it to the 64bit home - I'm afraid that'll kill everything though.
Also, I think I'm correct in this, but not sure: any 32bit app must use the 32bit client on the 64bit box. MS Access needs 32bit ODBC, which needs 32bit client, etc.

yes, as long as you have the serial number.  if you do not, use belarc advisor to recover it before uninstalling your cs5.

    help?

Here is what worked for me for both 10.5 and 10.5.1 after hoursof frustration with Itunes stopping and shutting down in the middle of a syncor tranferring Apps downloaded on my Ipad2 or Iphone 4:
Start iTunes in iTunes Safe Mode:
    1.  hold down the Shift and Control key together and clickto start iTunes.
    2.  when you see the iTunes icon in the task bar, click onit.
    3.  you will get a box that says "iTunes is running insafe mode.  Visual plug-ins you have installed have been termporarilydisabled."   [I don't know what plug-ins I installed but youshould clearly see that these so-called visual plug-ins are likely the cause ofyour issues];
    4. click Continue to open iTunes.
You could already have your device connected to your computer ordo it after opening iTunes in its safe mode.
Now press your sync button and everything should work fine.
I also disabled Genius in iTunes preferences but I'm not sure ifthis is one of the issues causing these types of problems.
I hope this works.  This may be the workaround for all ofus Windows 7 64-bit folks.

  • Presenter installation (32-bit) Win7

I have tried to install many times Adobe Presenter. I have Windows 7, 32-bit, Microsoft Office 2010.
I start the installation, enter my license key, take the default settings and it begins to install.
I get to a certain point, (right after it says "registering"), and then it starts "rolling back action"

    Any ideas?

    I've tried 7.0 and 7.0.7 installations.
I also spent a good hour on the phone and Adobe Connect session with someone at Adobe and they couldn't figure it out either. We tried uninstalling, reinstalling, downloading new installation files, cleaning the registry; you name it.

  • SQLDev on 64 bit Win7, Connection to Access DB without Default driver

I need to look after my club's database, created in Access97. Thought I'd use SQLDeveloper on the club's laptop, a Win 7 64 bit version. I've installed the 64 bit version of SQL Dev, it works fine.
When I create a new connection and browse to the .mdb file in the Access tab, I get 'Data source name not found and no default driver specified'. I have defined an ODBC data source in the 32-bit 'Data Sources' manager using the 'C:\Windows\SysWOW64\odbcad32.exe' utility.
I can't find instructions how to get SQLDev to connect to such a data source using the DSN - it seems impossible given there is no JDBC-ODBC bridge?
I can't find a way to install a default driver on Win 7; any advice?
    Much obliged,
    Irene

    Irene,
this kind of error might be related to the ODBC driver you've installed.
When you use the 64bit SQL Developer release you'll need the 64bit ODBC drivers. You've mentioned you've used the odbcadm32 from syswow64 => this would be the 32bit ODBC admin.
The 64bit ODBC admin is located in %systemdrive%\Windows\System32 folder.
    * The 32-bit version of the Odbcad32.exe file is located in the %systemdrive%\Windows\SysWoW64 folder.
    * The 64-bit version of the Odbcad32.exe file is located in the %systemdrive%\Windows\System32 folder.
Could you please open it and define a 64bit MS Access DSN?
If you don't find a 64bit ODBC driver for MS Access, you can download it from:
