64-bits instalation issues

Hi Folks!
My client wants to change the hardware and wants to know if there is any issue about processor.
Just using (for a while) the actual applications like Essbase 7.1.6, Analyzer 7, Application Server, etc.
Actual configuration:
Model: HP PROLIANT DL740G1
Processor: 04 INTEL XEON MP a 2.8GHz
Memory: 24 GB using 20GB and keeping 4 GB for standby
Disk: 02 disks of 140GB RAID I
HBA with HP EVA storage
OS: Windows 2003 32 bits
Intend configuration:
Model: Dell Power Edge 2900 III with rack assemble kit
Processor: 02 Quad-Core Intel Xeon 5460 3.1GHz.
2x6mb of cache / 1333 FSB
Memory: 32GB
Disk: 02 disks of 146GB SAS
HBA PCI Express compatible with HP EVA storage
OS: Windows 2003 Enterprise Edition x64
They want to upgrade to 11 version in a near future (just don't know when lol)
What do you think?
Is that a good idea to install 64-bits hardware with 32-bits software?
Or it would not run correctly?
Thanks in advance!
-Cheers,
Rafael

Hi John,
One advantage that i see from 64-bit OS (specially Windows) is that the ability the recognize above 4 GB RAM.
Other than that, there is no significant advantage. Using 32-bit essbase, it can only address max. 4-way processor.
I have 64-bit Windows OS with 32-bit Essbase architecture in some of my clients.
Of course, to see that happen, i have to explain in detail why using that configuration.
My 2 cents.
Thanks.
ZakyYes, I can see the following benefits if using 64bit version:
1. support max 8 CPU cores (what a pity that only 8 but not 16 CPU cores in today technology)
2. support 4GB instead of 2GB memory
3. OS level memory kernel should be larger
4. more physical memory can be used for caching, etc

  • Windows 7 64 bit Install Issues

Hello every one. I am trying to dual boot Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit on my Mac Pro. I have used the Boot Camp Assistant to partition a whole hard drive for Windows 7, but when I try and install the software the computer restarts and I get a black screen with white text saying to "Select CD-Rom Boot Type", but I can't do anything from that screen. The drive is in FAT32 format, in port 2 and has a 500 GB capacity. I'm using Boot Camp Assistant version 3.0.4. Help would be much appreciated.

You guys missed the important parts
    1. FAT is what BOOTCAMP is and does
    2. OP has 'unsupported' Mac Pro
    3. You can't boot from Win7 64-bit without reburning DVD after modifying it as an ISO
    4. To use two processors you will want Windows 7 Pro or Ultimate;
to use more than 1.9GB RAM you need 64-bit
s and I get a black screen with white text saying to "Select CD-Rom Boot Type", but I cannot

That is common, old, well-known issue.
I agree you don't need BCA and must pull other drives.
But this has nothing to do with not having NTFS, that comes later in the game.

1 Stick DDR3 - Freezes in "Starting Windows" screen when video card (HD 7850) installed.  Still works correctly with Integrated.

  • ProClarity Desktop Professional 6.3 64-Bit Install Issue

I'm having a bit of an issue getting this installed on a new machine. I was initially having trouble getting the prerequisites installed but thanks to an article i found looking through
these forums i have managed to get to the point of actually installing ProClarity. When i launch either "ProClarity Desktop Professional.msi" or the Setup.exe from
D:\Desktop Install\install the installer launches, progresses to a certain point and then crashes out with the below error:
"Microsoft Internet Explorer 6.0 or better is required for the installation of ProClarity Desktop Professional 6.3. You can update internet explorer at http://www.microsoft.com/windows/ie/default.asp"
I have received this error whilst running IE8, IE8(using the IE7 engine), IE9, the multiple IE install and variations of each running alongside each other. I tried using a process monitor so i could discover how the installer determines which version
of IE is being used but i haven't been able to find a single registry key or file that is checked for version. I've pretty much hit a roadblock, nothing i have tried has worked or yielded any more info for me to go on - a google search
    returns squat.
Has anyone else come across this issue?

    Nobody?
The section of the logs that seems to be the point of failure is below. It looks to have something to do with the C++ Redists but i have 2005, 2008 & 2010 installed. I've checked the file locations and they are all correct. Even a nudge in the right
    direction would be hugely appreciated.

  • Coldfusion 8.01 32-bit on RHEL5 64-bit install issues

I was wondering if anybody has seen/heard/experienced how to
    install Coldfusion 8 Standard 32-bit on a RHEL5 64-bit system? The
apache connector configuration part of the installation fails
because the server utilitzes a 64-bit apache binary. I assume that
    Java will also fail.
I installed CF8 64-bit without so much as a hiccup last week
then later discovered that the serial number provided only works
for the 32-bit version of CF8. Adobe doesn't make it obvious that
    CF8 Standard 64-bit doesn't exist. 64-bit CF8 only works on an
enterprise license ($7,000!). There are too many 64-bit servers out
in the wild for this to make sense. /rant
But if there is anybody out there who has shoehorned a 32-bit
version of Coldfusion into a 64-bit environment, please let me
    know.

It is definitely possible as I did it some time ago, alas don't have notes any more. Unless anyone here has some specific build notes on it, it's just a case of "Google is your friend" unfortunately.

  • [SOLVED] 64 Bit Install - Wireless / Kernel Issue

    Hi All
I decided to install the 64 bit version of Arch from scratch instead of upgrading the existing 32 bit. I downloaded and attempted to install "Arch 2011.08.19 X86_64".
The first problem was that I couldn't get the wireless up and running. I did the usual:
    cp /etc/network.d/examples/wireless-wpa /etc/network.d/talktalk
    nano /etc/network.d/talktalk
    netcfg talktalk
I edited the talktalk file to give it my ESSID etc. and usually when I do an install the network comes straight up, when I use "netcfg talktalk" - but not in this case. I got an error about there were no wireless extensions installed or something similar. I rebooted and noticed an error as the system came up:
    b43 - phy0 Error: Found unsupported PHY (Analog 10, Type 8, Revision 1)
Obviously I looked into this and it seems it's a known problem; something to do with a mistake someone made in a unit in the kernel or something like that. A programming error anyway.
I then plugged my laptop straight into the router and installed via the wired connection instead and installed. I still have the problem even after "sudo pacman -Syu" upgrade. From what I've read it seems the way to get around it is to downgrade the kernel - documented here https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Do … g_Packages - but I don't much like that idea. What happens when I subsequently run an upgrade? It will probably just fall over again right?
Anyone got an alternative solution? I had a look at upgrading to the Testing repo but obviously that has all sorts of potential issues which I don't want to have to spend the time resolving. For the time being I've fallen back to my 32 bit Arch system but it would be nice to know how to resolve the 64 bit issue.
Thanks for any help / suggestions

  • HP PhotoSmart 2575 All-In-One Driver/Software Install Issue - Windows 8.1

    Hi
I've just bought a new Sony Viao with Windows 8.1 (64 bit) installed.
I'm trying to install my HP PhotoSmart 2575 All-In-One so downloaded the driver and software installer from here:
    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareDownloadIndex?softwareitem=mp-110159-1&cc=uk&dlc=en&lc=en...
The file downloaded fine on to my desktop, i double click it and then the Exctracting... thing moves along to 100% then goes off the screen.  Then nothing happens. I was expecting some software for the printing and scanning to be installed or some further install files to be added to my desktop.
    What do i do next?
    Matt

    Hi  Matt,
Thank you for updating me. I can definitely understand the frustration you must be feeling, especially when things seemed to be going great then it changed.
I have 2 documents to follow next.  First, please try the steps in the document titled "Software Installation Stops Without Warning and With No Error Message".   When you get to "Step three: Install the Software", it references HP SmartInstall.  Please don't worry about using that program as it's specific to some of HP's LaserJet printers.  Please use the HP's Printer Install Wizard instead of HP's SmartInstall.
If that document doesn't resolve the issue then please proceed onto the 2nd document titled "The Progress Bar on the Software Installation Stops or Stalls".
Please let me know how it goes.  I want to ensure we have your printer installed and working.

  • OBIEE 11g 64-bit install on Windows 64-bit

I wanted to solicit any experiences that the user forum is having with installing 11g on a 64-bit Windows platform. I understand that the Admintool/Job Manager will not run with the 64-bit installation package but we can install the newly released Client install to circumvent this. I am seeing many forums out there in which the 64-bit OBIEE install is done as Simple or Enterprise. My understanding is that this is useless as the bundled WebLogic utilizes at 32-bit JVM. There is a Doc ID out on Metalink (ID 1220564.1) that states one can only do a Software Install. So we have proceeded with the following steps of downloading first the Java 64-bit JVM, then a WebLogic instance utilizing the 64-bit JVM (java -D64 -jar xxx.jar) and finally the OBIEE Software Only install.
The issue we are running into is that the Install fails when attempting to start the OPMN. So during the install the "Executing:opmnctl start coreapplication_obips1
" fails and references the OPMN not starting. We are unable to start the OPMN service as well. We have a static IP, so this not the known issue with the loopback adapter. The other issue I saw was having to install the VC++ 2005 SP1 libraries per another Metalink Doc ID (1226254.1). This was all done, however, the install continues to fail.
It seems the lack of knowledge from support as well as the vague/lack of documentation is frustrating. I just wanted to ping the OTN community around this scenario.

Thanks Paul, really appreciate the update. Spent this morning rebuilding our environment with 64-bit (Win 2008) and starting from scratch. The install has now succeeded. I tell you one thing you pointed out is something we noticed when we proceeded with the second install. That was the WebLogic version. I had initially used .4 and on the second install we used .3. I am guessing that this may have been the issue.
I will verify with our Oracle resources and I hope this post will assist other when doing the 64-bit install as I think it is very vague in the documentation.
I will update the post with Oracles response as well.
Just as an FYI... the reason this issue came up in the first place was we did an Enteprise Install on 64-bit and found that the Gauge Charts weren't working in the SampleAppLite Subject Area. So I will add that to the Tags for this post.
Hope this post helps others and they don't go through the headaches of a wrong install type.

But the Outlook "Bitness" registry key is missing, i.e. no \HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Office\15.0\Outlook\Bitness.

  • Firefox 11.0 32bit, Win7 64 bit, FP 11.2.202.233 64 bit install finishes, lists only 11.2.202.228

    Hello---
I have Firefox 11.0 32 bit running under Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit SP1 with all current Windows updates.
I am trying to install Flash Player 64 bit Non-IE installer, version 11.2.202.233.
I close Firefox before installing, installation says it completes successfully, loads Firefox, says Flash Player is working.
I load Add-ons Manager, check installed version of Flash Player, it lists as:
    11.2.202.228
Which is obviously the previous version.
I have tried this repeatedly, with exact same result.
I have also tried the links available on Filehippo.com,
on the off chance the Bootstrap Downloader was causing the problem.
The full Non-IE 64 bit install package yielded exact same results as described above.
I would like to complete the install of the new version properly but it doesn't appear to be working.
I have no Antivirus products installed, and I am allowing the Bootstrap Downloader through my Software Firewall,
download and install both register as 100% successful so Firewall is not the issue.
    Thanks,
    Ferenc

As reflected in my poste (copy below), I am getting the same thing on multiple Windows PC's, both 32 and 64 bit.
BTW, As indicated below, I see Firefox reporting the older version of Flash when I go to the Adobe test page.  Where do you see this in Firefox Add-Ons Manager?  I cannot see any listing for Flash anywhere in there.  Can you please be more specific.  Thank you.

Firefox 11 Not Reporting Correct Version of Flash v. 11.2.202.233
This question is Not Answered.(Mark as assumed answered)
Today (April 14, 2012) I installed the new Adobe Flash v. 11.2.202.233 on four computers (several Mac and several PC/Windows).
Eveything went fine except that Firefox does not seem to have the new Flash on any of the Windows PC's (it worked fine on Mac). That is, when I go to the Adobe test page (http://www.adobe.com/software/flash/about/), it is reporting that Firefox is using the immediately prior version 11.2.202.228. However, all other Windows browsers (e.g., Opera, IE, etc.) all report the correct version on that test page.
And I checked Windows Programs and Updates and it shows version 11.2.202.233 installed.
So, why is Firefox 11 showing the old version? Anyone have any ideas and hopefully a fix?
    Adobe, you should fix this.

    Hello,

"Is there a 64 bit install for adobe reader?"
And I did not find my answer.  That is why I'm posting this as a question.

I am getting ready to build a new computer for myself, and will be running Windows 7 Enterprise 64 bit.  Before I begin, I want to make sure I have all of my software that I want installed, and I am doing research on each program to see if there is a 64 bit version that can be installed.  What I would like to do is have as many as my programs that I install be 64 bit as possible.  I know that not every program will be 64 bit, but I did want to get as many of them as possible to be 64 bit applications.
As I do want a PDF reader on my computer, and I have used Adobe Reader for years, I started looking on the web site to download the current version.  However, I did not see any place that I could download a 64 bit version of Adobe Reader.
That is why I'm here asking.  Is there a 64 bit version of Adobe Reader that I can download?  If so, where is it on the web site?
This does lead me to a follow up question.  Is there a 64 bit version of the Flash Player, as well as the Shockwave player?  If so, where can I download them from as well.
    Thanks in advance,

Again, I think you need to check the Microsoft web page, as I was able to find 64 bit versions of IE8 for download.
The URL to access the page is
    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/internet-explorer/downloads/ie-8
From that page, I am able to select a 64 bit version of IE 8 for the following Operating Systems
      -- Windows XP 64 Bit
      -- Windows Vista 64 Bit
      -- Windows Server 2003 64 Bit
      -- Windows Server 2008 64 Bit
Windows 7 is not listed as an option as it already comes with IE8 installed by default.
Looks to me that Microsoft has already released a 64 bit version of IE8.
In fact, I went ahead and downloaded IE8 for Windows 2003 Server x64 bit, and looked at the details of the file.  Each microsoft download has a digital signature associated with them, showing a date and time of when the exe was built.
According to what is shown below, IE8 for Windows Server 2003 has been around since Sunday, March 08, 2009.
So, what has adobe been doing since March of 2009?  IE8 has been 64 bit for well over 2 years now (it will be 3 in March of 2012). While I know that it does take time to develop new applications, I don't think it would take 3 years for Adobe to come up with a 64 bit version of Reader that could have been built under the 64 bit platform.

  • Drivers/Utilities CD..XP and VISTA..can I use vista for WIN7 64 bit install?

Drivers/Utilities CD's, that came with the p-35 Motherboard..XP and VISTA..can I use Vista for WIN7 64 bit install, or download the chip set drivers for Awin7 BEFORE the OS install??
    MSI P-35 Platinum
    Q6600 Core 2 Quad
    Presently XP 32Bit
    NVidia geforce 8600GT
    8GB DDR2 SDRAM PC6400-800MHz
    Windows 7..waiting to be installed.
    Hello,
I WANT TO DO A CLEAN INSTALL.I have Windows 32 Home XP, I have the Win7 OEM I want to install.
When i bought my MSI mobo, it came with both the drivers and utilities for XP and Vista.   Can I use the chip set drivers and utilities for Vista, until i can go to MSI and download the latest chip set drivers?  When do i install these drivers....before the OS install, or after?
Can I format these drives first, go in the BIOS change to boot sequence from Raptor Boot Drive to the DVD/Rom to boot the WIN7 from, or should I format while installing Win7?
Someone on another forum suggested that 1) disconnect the two droves, then install the OS on the boot drive, and2) before win7 install, make the proposed boot drive (NOT THE DVD/CD ROM the first choice priority for the boot sequence....is this right?
Is it absolutely necessary to unplug the other two drives, while formatting and installing the WIN7 O.S.?  People tell me that there is a chance of the OS installing sometimes on the other drives.
Also, if I want to change the now present boot drive Local disk letter (C) to my storage drive (G) and the other two drive letters, can I do this in manage disks, anytime, or only during windows setup install?
    Thx

I've never had this much trouble hooking up a HDD.
I have two IDE DVD/CD ROMS.  (My RAID MODE was IDE in XP OS, and still is with WIN7.)
           I have three SATA HDD's.
After unplugging the SATA 2TB HDD while I installed the WIN7 OS on the 500 GB HDD (it was on the 74 RAPTOR, but I moved location, and made absolutly sure nothing went on my raptor)
So today I decided to re-hook up the 2TB Storage HDD, and when I did, I went into bios, and to the cell menu, and LOAD ALL DEFAULT SETTINGS, so it could see my newly installed HDD,which I had all my backup Data from the previous HDD. I also checked and the RAID MODE was IDE, and the boot sequence was the WDC 500GB Boot/OS drive, rebooted, then I got that annoying blanked out screen with that blinking cursor, so I got back into the bios, and changed the 1st boot to the IDE Pioneer DVD/CD ROM, 2nd boot to the 500GB HDD, and rebooted again..still got that blinking cursor.
I opened up the Mobo, checked and replugged all SATA, and power cables to the three HDDS, tried it again, then still got the blinking cursor.  Seems no matter what I change in the boot sequence,it never wants to boot properly
    ....AND THEN,
I started with TAB > POST> started WINDOWS, then once it opened up, I went to manage Disks, saw all three HDDs were online and healthy.  Win. Explorer also listed them in that folder, in device manager, it listed all three too.
     The managed window showed this:
    74GB    (system,active,Primary partition)                       Storage
    2TB     (Primary partition)                                           Excessive Storage
500GB  (Boot, page files,crash-Dump, Primary partition)   Operating system
Both the PCI IDE BusMaster and ON-Chip SATA Controller were both ENABLED.
Before I just got online, I tried RESTART, and it opened Windows the usual way,  so I hope I don't have any more problems. It worked fine BEFORE I just plugged in the 2TB HDD back in.
I pretty much did what everyone suggested, except for leaving in the 74GB Raptor when I installed WIN7, which prompted me to format the drive prior to installing the OS.  Also, when I changed the IDE, RAID,and AHC1, to the AHC1 Mode, just before I installed Window7, like a few suggested, I also had problems, so after the install, I went back and changed it back to IDE.  My Floppy was an IDE, but I removed it from my system, and disabled in BIOS, but even a few times I went into Bios and saw that thje floppy was 1st Boot, even though I changed to either the DVD/CD Rom, or the 500GB boot drive.
So what is the preferred boot sequence?

    I was correcting install issues?

here is question, i am assuming its fresh install not upgrade...
when you run the config wizard( you mentioned many times), which option you select from 2nd try to on ward....cannot disconnect this server from farm?
are you using any script to install ?
I would say run the config wizard without disconnecting and this server will host CA option.
from the central admin > manager server in farm...on top you will see farm version and config database name. note it
from the Manage database Upgrade status page note all the db names
now match it on sql and keep those and all other should gone now as a clean process.
