64 bits OS compatibility ?

Hi,
I´m running Photoshop CS3 Extended on a Quadcore with 4 giga of Ram. Windows XP is 64 (I think it´s a problem).
I´m having a problem... Photoshop is very slow... very very slow when comparated to my old pc that was a XP 32 bits and 2 giga of ram.
Could it be a problem because I´m using a 64 bits OS or using Quadcore ? Is photoshop CS3 extended preparated for XP 64 bits OS and Quadcore?
Thank´s for any advice

Sounds more like you have a network printer set up as a default. Change
it a local printer and see if that helps.
That said, XP64 is not supported, though Vista 64 does have some quasi
support. I'm running CS3 on Vista 64 and everything is great.

  • Boot Camp / Windows 8.1 64-bit / Driver compatibility issues

    Hi everyone,
I have been struggling to install Windows 8.1 Pro 64-bit version through Boot Camp on my MacBook Air 13 inch mid-2012 for a few days and I have finally decided to give up and write this thread to see if anyone has encountered the same problems as I have and if they've found a solution.
    What I've tried so far:
    1. First attempt
         a. Download the ISO from Microsoft (We are a Microsoft Partner and have access to internal use licences of Windows 8.1).
         b. Use the Boot Camp utility to create a bootable USB drive, download the latest Boot Camp drivers and partition my SSD drive.
Issue: Upon rebooting, I got the "No bootable device found" error message. I still tried to boot on the USB drive, which I was able to, but           when installing Windows, I was unable to format the partition created by the Boot Camp utility as it contained a "MBR partition table"           instead of a GPT.
    2. Second attempt
         a. I searched the Internet about the error message about the MBR partition table.
         b. The solution I found was to format the partition created by the Boot Camp utility as "Free space".
         c. I was then able to start Windows installation by formatting the partition I wanted to allot it to through the Windows installation process.
Issue: The installation went smoothly until my computer rebooted the first time and the "Peripherals preparation" step (sorry about the           approximate translation, I'm used to the French version of it) got stuck at 10% and was brutally followed by a black screen. Forcing the           computer to restart would show the Windows logo and go straight back to the black screen situation...
    3. Third attempt
         a. I decided to create a bootable Windows installation USB drive using UNetBootin utility and creating a "Free space" partition through Disk      Utility on which to install Windows.
         b. I then booted on the USB Drive and was able to install Windows properly.
         c. I donwloaded the set of Boot Camp drivers through Apple's wesbsite corresponding to my MacBook Air model.
Issue: Somehow, the graphics driver installed by Boot Camp made my system crash as I got a black screen when it tried to install. Even           without doing anything and having Windows try to install the right driver by itself, I got a black screen and an unusable installation of           Windows 8.1.
What am I missing here? Why isn't the Boot Camp utility working when it should be so easy? Is there a compatibility issue of my graphics driver (Intel HD Graphics 4000) with Windows running under Boot Camp?
Thanks in advance for your help. I'm in desperate need of a solution as I don't want to go back to using virtualisation softwares such as Parallels Desktop, VMWare, etc. though they work just fine...
    Best regards,
    Alex

    1. Your MBA does not support EFI/Free Space method.
    2. You need to ensure that your USB is a USB2 device.
    3. The MBR should be checked, because there are known cases where BCA fails to create the MBR.

  • Windows 7 Pro 64-bit / DWM Compatibility Issue/Crashes

I've been having an issue for a few months, both on my old system and the new one.  Everything worked perfectly on the old machine up until I had tried to install a Comodo backup program (which messed up some permissions), after which a Visual C++ Redis
installation failed, and etc.  I've built a new machine that shares only one piece of hardware with the old one (video card), which worked fine up until that software change for months, so I don't suspect it (at this time).
    Mainboard : Gigabyte Z68X-UD3H-B3
    Chipset : Intel Sandy Bridge
    Processor : Intel Core i5 2500K @ 3300MHz
    Physical Memory : 16384MB (4 x 4096 DDR3-SDRAM )
Video Card : NVIDIA GeForce GTX 560 Ti (running 275.33 drivers)
Hard Disk : Western Digital WD1001FALS-00J7B0 ATA Device (1000GB)
Hard Disk : Western Digital WD1002FAEX-00Y9A0 ATA Device (1000GB)
    DVD-Rom Drive : MagicISO Virtual DVD-ROM
    Monitor Type : PX2710MW - 27 inches
Network Card : Realtek Semiconductor RTL8168/8111 PCIe Gigabit Ethernet Adapter
Operating System : Windows 7 Professional Professional Media Center 6.01.7601 Service Pack 1 (64-bit)
    DirectX : Version 11.00
    PSU: OCZ 700w 80PLUS
What's happening is that I'll load a game such as Just Cause 2, and within minutes of starting it drops to the desktop, as if I had hit Alt-Tab.  When this happens, the event log shows this:
-A request to disable the Desktop Window Manager was made by process (4)
-The Desktop Window Manager was unable to start because composition was disabled by a running application
    -Fault bucket , type 0
     Event Name: LiveKernelEvent
     Response: Not available
     Cab Id: 0
These are three different entries, but they happen within a second of each other.  Process #4 is "SYSTEM", so the OS itself is trying to start DWM.  At the same time, dwm.exe is already running under my user account name.  I suspect this is
the reason why it can't disable the process, or something.  It's fairly random as to when this happens though, maybe a few seconds into the game, or a few minutes.  This has happened in both Just Cause 2, and Cities XL 2011 (both based off Steam
BTW).  It does NOT happen with World of Warcraft, which is running in DX11 mode.
I even tried running the benchmark from CPUID/PC Wizard 2010, it caused the above errors (but instead of process (4) trying to disable DWN, the PC Wizard program tried).  It caused it to fail out.
Here's the output from the error reporting:
    Fault bucket 1399290566, type 5
    Event Name: AppHangB1
    Response: Not available
    Cab Id: 0
    Problem signature:
    P1: JustCause2.exe
    P2: 1.0.0.2
    P3: 4c1b5791
    P4: 262c
    P5: 2048
There are log files, not sure what to do with those though.
I've googled this thing a lot, and tried numerous things.  I disabled the in-game social/overlay for Steam, I've made sure all drivers are up to date, heck I built a new PC with a fresh install of Windows.  I did find two things that I'm not sure
    make a difference or not:
There were reports that if you create a new user account and reinstall the games with it, the issue goes away.  Have not tried this.
Semi-related to the above, someone reported if you had your My Documents on a different drive, it caused this.  Moving it back to the main drive fixed it.  I have all of my user folders on my main drive, the other is the backup of the previous
computer and not used at this time.  This doesn't seem to make a difference, but perhaps is related to the user permissions theory?
As mentioned above, the video card is the same between both rigs, BUT in the original it worked solid for 3 months, up until I tried to install that software that seemed to trigger these issues initially.  It works perfectly fine in many games (WoW
included, on ultra settings), so I can't imagine it would be specific to some games and not others.
Any ideas/wisdom on this one?  I'm pretty good about finding solutions to things like this, but this one has me stumped.  It's sending error reports to Microsoft I guess, doubtful what kind of resolution will come from that though?

    Hi,
I would like to know if the backup program has been uninstalled?
I suggest updating your graphic card driver from manufacturer's site and scanning the computer with your security software. Also test the issue in
Clean Boot. If possible, try to reinstall problematic games.
    Best Regards,
    Niki

  • Windows 7 64-bit edition compatibility

I was doing some research before installing Windows 7 64-bit edition on my MBP. I found in this article (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1846) that my MBP is not covered for the install, because mine was made in Mid-2007 I think.
Question (but a statement first). I would like to install the 64 bit edition, because then I would have access to all 4GB of RAM, rather than being capped at 3. It is really not a huge deal. But I have a Core 2 Duo and 4GB of RAM, so does anyone know which components don't meet the requirements for the 64-bit edition.
I am not going to do anything that is going to screw up my computer in the long run. I was just wondering if anyone knew why this would not work.
    Ian

The Windows 7 DVD for 64-bit and your EFI 32-bit firmware.
There are ways around this, but back in 2007 the EFI 64-bit wasn't finalized yet, which became Unified EFI 2.x / EFI64.
Modifying the DVD is the one way I know, but required first installing temporarily in a VM (Sun/Oracle, Fusion, etc) and modifying (reburn) the ISO.

  • 32 bit Planning compatability with 64 bit Essbase

    Hi,
We are running version 11.1.1.3.01 of Planning, and Essbase 11.1.1.3 on two Windows 2003 R2 Sp2 servers. Planning/Worspace/etc on one server and Essbase by itself on the other. We want to add a new planning server and a new essbase server.
Will 32bit planning work with 64bit essbase if we want to go that route? Any downside to using 64 bit essbase with planning?
Also can multiple Planning Application servers exist in a single Worspace instance. In other words do I need to install workspace along side of planning on the new planning server? Can I get the existing Workspace installation to recognize the new planning server? What is the best practice? Hope that makes sense.
    Thanks for any responses,
    Keith

Best practice for multiple Planning servers is a load balancer (Force5 BigIP/Citrix NetScaler/Cisco/Microsoft NLB). Most larger companies have BigIP's or Netscalers.
The VIP should be set with sticky sessions based on source IP and you would register your environment with the VIP.

  • PHOTOSHOP CS4 bit mode compatibility

I have files in RGB and their bit modes are deactivated so I can't add another RGB photo (in 8-bit mode) into that file nor can I deactivate the bit mode in the photo to match the main files. How to I make these two images compatible??? Please help!

Are you sure you are not in "Multichannel" mode?
That's the only way I can think of of not having the option to change bit depth.
Could you post a similar screen shot?
Even better, can you post a link to one of your affected files?

  • Compressor 64-bit and compatibility

I want to use Compressor as part of my FCP workflow. However I have heard that there are crash problems. Is Compressor 4 now 64-bit and are there any alternatives you might recommend? I want to export movies to bespoke medium and small file sizes

So, Compressor is still 32 bit.
As to the stability of the app, you may be interested in what was posted here on a related question.
I think the expectations for FCP X and Compressor need to be different. X is still very early in the development stage while C4 is mature. I have only been using X in any serious way for a few months and even though the latest versions are reportedly a lot more stable than the earlier versions, I still get far more frequent crashes than I ever experienced using Final Cut Studio.
However, I have never had a Compressor crash of any sort…in C3, C3.5, or C4…and I use the software on a daily basis. The only issue I ever had with C4 was a cluster problem, which I was able to resolve.
As far as alternatives are concerned, here is one that's free. It ca do a few tricks that Compressor can't, but C.4 does more overall…and IMHO, can produce higher quality. You might also check out Toast, which is a little more expensive. A lot more expensive are Sorenson Squeeze and Telestream Episode; I believe both have trial versions.
    Good luck.

  • 32-bit Software & 64-bit hardware Compatibility

We have install Coldfusion MX 7.0.2 on a 64-bit Xeon Duo-Core
Intel server running Windows 2003 32-bit Server. Is this OK or are
there issues running 32-bit OS and Coldfusion MX 7 on a 64-bit
machine?? We are experiencing Coldfusion "freezes" or hangs. The
problem goes away when the server is restarted or the Coldfusion
service is restarted. Our web developers suggest a corrupt OS so I
was going to buy another server but can only find 64-bit
processors. Is the 32-bit OS, 32-bit Java and 32-bit Coldfusion MX
    7 running on a 64-bit hardware causing my problem??? I don't want
to buy a new 64-bit machine to have the same issue. We are a K-12
public school with limited resources.... the $499.00 fee to ask
Adobe this question is hard to swallow! Thank You!

There are many forum threads that discuss coldfusion hangs.
There are also many technotes that discuss troubleshooting of
    these. Start by reviewing them.
To begin with review your cfusionmx7\logs and
cfusionmx7\runtime\logs. Initially review your application logs.
Fix the errors there and in the exception log. You may want to
archive all existing logs and start with clean logs. Next time you
hang look to see what kinds of errors you are seeing at the end of
    the log.
Thread dumps are a typical troubleshooting tool for hangs.
    Review the technotes on these.
Unless there are other obvious signs of a problem with your
OS, there is no reason to suspect it. Coldfusion 32 bit runs fine
    on 64 bit hardware.

  • VPN Client and Vista 64-bit

We have several laptops that we need to install Vista on. We would prefer 64-bit so that we can really make use of the extra RAM these laptops have, however there is one program we require holding us back to 32-bit at the moment. Its the Cisco VPN Client. We have PIX 500 series hardware so we don't have any other VPN option right now.
All I would need to know is that Cisco does indeed plan to release a Vista 64-bit compatible of the software sometime soon (say in the next quarter).
Does anyone know if this is planned or not? Or is there some technological barrier keeping them from doing it?

  • Solution to connect calander to Windows Vista 64 bit without Outlook.

Ok, if any of you are like me you like to use all the functions possible on the nano. Unfortunately for me I have one of the most challenging systems to work with trying to get media onto nano from computer and vise verse. I’m running Windows Vista 64 bit and I wanted to sync the calendar from my computer onto my nano. Long story short is if you contact Apple support they will most likely tell you that you have to download Outlook or Outlook express. Unfortunately Outlook is not exactly cheap and Outlook Express doesn’t work on the Vista. So you will have to find a different calendar to use. Two options exist for us Vista users, neither of them is automatic, but at least you can use the calendar.
Option #1: Optional calendar to use is called Microsoft Works Calendar. It is already pre install on Vista and has an option to export the calendar as an iCalender. How to use it is you fill in the calendar, then go to File> Export> iCalendar. A box pops open called Export iCalendar File. In that box select All appointments, by doing that I believe it over rides the range option. Then hit OK. Then the Save As box opens and you will have to save it into your nano’s calandar folder. And hit Save once you locate the nano’s calendar file. There you are done. Now every time you make a change to the calendar on your computer you do the same steps but always save the calendar as the same name so it will over write the existing calendar on your nano.
Option #2: This option is similar as above but it allows you to use any calendar you have on your computer that can save the calendar as a .ics file format. Choose the calendar of your option but before wasting any time filling in the calendar first check to see if the calendar can be saved as a .ics type. If the calendar of choice doesn’t allow you to save that type of file then it will not work and you will have to choose a different calendar to use. Once you find the calendar to use then you can fill it in as you need to. Then go to File> Save as> and select the save as type to be a iCalendar File (*.ics). And Save in you nano’s calendar file. Now you’re done. Remember though every time you want to update the calendar on your nano you will have to save it as the same name so it over writes the calendar on the nano and updates properly.
I know this doesn’t sync up automatically but it is the only way to use the calendar on nano if you don’t want to purchase Outlook, cause Apple only programmed itunes to work with Outlook or Outlook Express and they do not have any other options available.

  • Faulty, noisy grey prints from LR 2.6 64-bit, Windows 7 64-bit, HP B9180

I've been using Lightroom for about a year, and recently retired my old Windows XP 32-bit system and built a brand new AMD Quad-core Windows 7 64-bit PC. The C: drive is a brand new Kingston V+ SSD 128GB, supplemented by a 1TB SATA3 WD Caviar Black D: drive. My LR Catalog resides on the SSD C: drive (carried over from the old system), though my photo storage is on a LaCie 1TB eSATA disk. I currently have 4GB of DDR3 high-quality RAM (I do plan to add more) and run a largely trouble-free HP Photosmart Pro B9180 printer via USB 2.0 cable. My catalog and photos are all nicely intact onscreen, but I have the following problem when I use the Print Module:
Prints from Lightroom 2.6 64-bit for Win 7 (a fresh install) come out of the printer as large fields of grey noise (!) They are quite difficult to describe, but they are absolutely not a simple profile problem in any way that I can imagine. That is, the entire printed photo is grey noise (actually quite a bit of chroma noise as well on close viewing) but perfectly white borders if the print is set up for borders . If the photo has any very white highlight or very dark/black shadow areas, those portions do appear in the print as white highlights or red shadows, respectively. Other than those extreme highlight and shadow areas, the print is absolutely unrecognizable, appearing as only greyish chroma noise. ????
This problem is true for all of the follwing situations:
Whether the source file is .JPG or Canon RAW
Whether I print on Glossy Advanced or Plain Paper
Whether I print in Best, Normal, or FastDraft mode (from the printer driver)
Whether I try Application Managed  Color, Printer Managed Color, or no color management at all
The one exception to this problem occurs only when I select the Draft Mode Printing checkbox in the LR Print Module and go on to print in draft mode. In this case only, I can get a recognizable print (a typical draft quality print is made without any other problems).
I do not have problems printing from Open Office, Firefox, or even full photo-output prints from Canon Digital Photo Professional of the same image files (without LR adjustments, naturally), nor did I have this problem printing in LR 2 32-bit on my old XP system (It may have been version 2.5 the last print I made, however).
I have already perfomed a "repair-install" of a freshly downloaded LR 2.6 64-bit installer, yet the problem remains. I have not yet tried to completely remove LR before reinstalling. I have not yet reinstalled my HP 64-bit printer drivers, as the problem was limited to Lightroom.  Happy to post images if helpful (I'm new here, I'll have to check the rules and instructions).
Have not found anyone else with this problem in my searches. Any help would be greatly appreciated, as this is extremely disruptive to my workflow and revenue stream
    Camron
EDIT: Photo of comparison prints: Canon DPP on left, LR 2.6 on right (same image file)

Thanks for the suggestions.  I have tried each idea in the order suggested. Unfortunately I have not yet solved the problem.  In some circumstances, with certain paper profiles and no other color management in place, I get faulty prints but they have large areas of solid color in areas where there is a large amounts of color saturation in the original image. The faulty image below is printed to plain letter-sized paper ar Normal Quality. One clarification I wish to make is that my HP printer driver was not specifically a 64-bit driver, but rather 32-bit/64-bit driver compatable for Win 7.
I may try completely uninstalling LR before reinstalling, instead of a "repair-install" but I am still open to other suggestions.

I adquired a new iPad, this i my first Macintosh product I ever had, and since I bought it i cant sync any kind of music, video, photos, etc.. when i connected my iPad to my computer ( Alien ware, Windows 7, 64-bit) it made me kind of an account, with my name but several issues appeared in the screen:

This first time my iPad was detected by itunes, but none of the syncing services was available.
I installed all updates, and then my iPad was not appearing in iTunes.
    I tried all this things:

    **Another USB cable
**Installed iTunes 32-bit, with compatibility mode.
And none of thing things worked at all.
Apple is not responding me anything.

I hate to say this but I have never heard of anyone not having multiple problems like this- including myself when using a Windows 7 machine with any Apple product - I own 2 iPods of different flavors, an iPhone & an iPad (WiFi). Whenever I do any kind of syncing I have uneven results except fort he most basic things like getting Podcasts or transferring Music. Any software related upgades, new OS whatever is a real big pain. So what I did was to go out and buy the most inexpensive Mac and I use it for connectivity to my iStuff. You might be able to get a used Mac but they don't seem to be very available - gosh wonder why, maybe because they are so good no one gets rid of them. I only use Windows now for clients that make me use it. Good luck.
